Clock moving too fast... again.

I've had this problem before, I think...  Here is the thread:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=28538
The short version is that I added "clock=pit" to the kernel boot line in grub, and it worked until now.  The argument is still there in my menu.lst.  Is it possible that kernel developers actually used some code in the "default" clock timer in the "pit" clock, and transferred a bug?
Everywhere I read of clock skew problems, people mention the CMOS battery.  If you run a system almost 24/7 (I rarely turn off my computer) would it matter if the CMOS battery were dying?  I'm not sure about this, but I think that linux only reads the time from the CMOS when it boots up, and then it keeps track of time on it's own, so the CMOS battery would have no effect on the system time while the computer was running.
Right now, according to my clock radio (not pc related) it is 1602.  My taskbar clock says 1622, and when I run hwclock it says "Mon 04 Jun 2007 04:29:15 PM PDT  -0.020001 seconds".  So if I understand this correctly, my CMOS clock is actually ahead of my linux clock which is ahead of real time.
Any ideas or new information anyone?

OK, I feel dumb, but I finally solved my problem.  I thought that dynamic overclocking was disabled, but my bios has 2 different locations where it can be enabled.  I found the second menu where it was enabled and disabled it, and my clock is pretty much perfect now.  I had "noapic" in my kernel boot loader line, but I think the proper argument is "apic=no" or something like that.  That probably would have solved the problem as well.
I think that this is technically a bug.  I've read several kernel bug reports that could actually be the same problem, but it gets kind of confusing because there were so many bugs with somewhat similar symptoms.
I'm not marking this "resolved" because there is still a bug that hasn't been fixed yet.  As unlikely as it seems, this thread might get the attention of somebody that actually has the skills required to write a patch.  Thanks again guys.
I should throw in some info on my system.  It is an MSI k7n2 delta 2

  • Please help: OEL clock running too fast

    Hi,
    I have tried everything I could find on the internet,
    I have downloaded the latest OEL 64bit, installed it on a server (Asus m/b + AMD Phenom™ X4 Quad-Core cpu).
    The clock runs 3 times faster than it should, how do I fix this?
    Tried all the "noapic" etc options on older RHEL discussions in the grub.conf, but nothing works.
    PLEASE someone help!
    We are trying to do a OEL + 11g setup.

    As a sidenote, please reconsider the previously proposed NTP solution.
    Even with systems without clock problems, there will always be a difference in clock speed between computer systems and also with the other systems surrounding them.
    Almost any computer system is using remote services, or provides services, or even has a setup where multiple systems are used to provide a single task (for example: the task of having a standby database using dataguard). If diagnosis of events on multiple systems, or diagnose of the sequence of events or tasks is needed, the clocks needs to be in sync. Otherwise diagnosis will be hard or impossible, or simply done wrong.
    NTP is the solution for that by carefully examine the local clock speed, and compare it to the networked time sources, and adjusting the clock accordingly.
    This is the reason most datacentres have timeservers internally with which computer systems can sync, so the clock is in sync on all systems. These timeservers are internal, thus need no internet access for the time clients. It is advised to use a 3rd party time source for the timeservers (like using timesources on the internet, or have a special card which sync with some atomic clock) But please mind you can do without.

  • My photos are moving too fast...

    I have an scrolling number of photos moving from left to right controlled by:
    onClipEvent (enterFrame)
        if (_parent.direction eq "LEFT")
            _parent.gotoAndStop(_parent._currentFrame - 1);
        else if (_parent.direction eq "RIGHT")
      if (_parent._currentFrame < 59) {
             _parent.gotoAndStop(_parent._currentFrame + 1);
        } // end else if
    is there a way to make it go slower?  I tried changing the values to decimals (e.g. 0.5 instead of -1 or +1) but that doesnt work.  Can someone suggest something else?

    you can change
    1.  your approach entirely,
    2.  change _parent's frames every 2nd or 3rd or 4th etc enterframe event or
    3.  change your frames per second.

  • Can't burn disc via iTunes. Burn speed too fast. AGAIN!

    "iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane of iTunes Preferences then try burning again".
    I have been having on going problems burning CD’s in iTunes for YEARS, and I know I am not the only one. I get the error message above. Having checked the forum at the time, and posted for help, I am know there is no real solution except to change brand of disc.
    Thing is, now I can’t get ANY brands to work. I’ve been through Verbatim, Maxell, JVC, Sony, but none work. The only brand that would work were TDK audios which I can no longer find anywhere.
    I know its not the burner, as Toast works fine, and I know I am not alone. Anyone got any ideas?
    Even after years Apple seem to be blanking this question. It’s very frustrating not being able to burn my purchased itunes downloads to disc.

    To anyone who is interested I think I may have found a possible solution. When you put a blank disc in the drive, wait about 30-60 seconds or so for it to stop spinning before burning.
    This seems to work. It's a bit sticky but eventually works. I tried both TDK & Maxwell discs and 9 out of 11 worked. Absolutely no reason why the other 2 didn't, but it's a lot better than none.

  • Time is running too fast

    Hi there
    I've got an iphone 2g, FW 3.1.3 and a very strange issue:
    The clock is running too fast. After one day the time on my phone is 1 hour ahead ( 1hour/each day). When i connect and sync, the time on my phone jumps back to the normal time, the time on my macbook.
    I did a total reset (came from version 3.0), but with no luck.
    Ive got no option "Set time automatically" in my Firmware version.
    I hope somebody has any idea what's going wrong.
    Thank you for reading anyway.
    regards

  • IPod Touch battery draining too fast?

    Recently, the battery life on my iPod touch has been draining too fast. Before I synced my iPod into my new laptop with a new iTunes, my battery life was very long, as I could go on for weeks before it was below 20%. Now, I can go from 100% down to 10% in under a minute.
    Even if I charge overnight or have 100%, any time my iPod is unlocked, the battery drains fast. I've done several methods to try and solve the problem, such as deleting apps, lowering brightness, turn off background apps, and even bought the battery life app (which I've had before but it seems to do nothing now). Whether I use the camera, play a game, or surf the internet, the battery bar will go down really fast. Sometimes I'll have half of battery life left and all of a sudden, my iPod turns off because it instantly went frm 50% to 0%. Even harmless actions such as the clock or just staying on the home screen will drain more battery than it usually does. The music app seems to be the only one that can last longer than an hour, but even then, just leaving it in the background will deplete the battery faster than usual, as opposed to it being in the background for hours and not taking away any percentage.
    My iPod still recharges normally (and quickly), and for some reason if I lock my iPod while it has a low percentage, when I unlock it again, a lot of battery is regained... and then lost almost immediately.
    I'm not sure if this has to do anything with me syncing to a new iTunes. I'm still under the same username and whatnot, and all I did was use home sharing to import all of my music from the old computer to the new one, so I wouldn't have to constantly go to my old computer to sync with my iPod.
    I currently use a 4th generation iPod touch with 8GB.
    I'm just wondering, what can I do to solve this issue, to return it to how it was before? As of now, I can't afford to replace the iPod, and I'm willing to send my iPod for repair as a last resort.
    Thanks.

    However, I suspect that your battery is just dying/wearingout. That happens with age and use.
    Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • Discharge of the battery is too fast

    Hello guys! I bought xperia Z2 three weeks ago and I have to say I am slightly disappointed. The problem about this phone is battery discharche. It is too fast. I tried to uninstal some updates of some apps, switched to static wallpaper, used stamina mode, Im not even using internet...Its getting very hot during simple using and battery is just discharging rapidly. Like 10 or 15% every hour. Cannot even use alarm clock because always when I wake up, xperia is dead already and I have to charge battery again.
    Can anyone help me with that? Please.
    I regret I bought this phone Seems like its not worth the money...
    I will be very thankful for advices...

  • CD burner error: Burn Speed Too Fast

    Whenever I try to burn a CD on my eMac an error message says
    "iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane of iTunes Preferences then try burning again".
    It even says that when the burning speed is on x1. It says that on every speed. So does anyone know how I can fix this problem and make it be able to burn CDs? Is it because I have nearly 10,000 songs on my iTunes, so that is somehow making it slow down?
    The blank disc I'm using is "High Quality Pure Silver CD-R 80 Tevion"
    It has 700 megabytes (80 minutes) on it, and I want to burn a CD that is 60 minutes, exactly. So, help? Thanks.

    Let me see if I can help you understand your delima.
    Just because you buy a very expensive Media Brand, doesn't mean it is any good. There is such a wide range of quality in CD's and DVD's it is really hard to select what is considered to be the best.
    A very good guide to use for Media in general for both CD, and DVD's is below.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
    Next there are a couple of KEY points to remember when burning, these will help you.
    Never have any other Applications open when burning.
    I tend to use either CD-R or DVD-R Media, the reason is these 2 formats are the most widely used and recognized in all Players, and Computers alike.
    Always choose the slowest speed to get a high quality burn.
    This next suggestion is probably the most important.
    Not all CD-R's and DVD-R's are the same
    Read the packaging carefully
    Many will explain that they will burn at all speeds from 1X upwards
    This will help insure that your burner Software will choose the correct speed.

  • Audio books play back too fast on iPad

    Audiobook play back too fast on iPad .Ok when played back computer have tried re setting iPad and adjusting speech speed

    Have your rebooted/restarted your iPad? you do that by pressing the Home and power/sleep button at the same time until the slider to power off the iPad appears. Slide the slider and when screen activity stops depress the two buttons again until the Apple logo appears. When the iPad completes rebooting try again to see if that solved your problem.

  • Can you slow down a voicemail you are listening to? I can't understand what someone said to me because they spoke too fast. I just want to know how to slow down the voicemail so I can understand her if it's possible.

    How can you slow down a voicemail you are listening to? Someone sent me a voicemail and they spoke way too fast for me to understand them. I want to know how to slow down the voicemail so I can understand them if that is possible.

       I have to say, this is so weird because it's actually become this way in the past week maybe, and I'm sure me saying this here will be disputed, ridiculed and belittled, and that's absolutely fair, but I've got to say it... up until a few days ago, my iTunes sync/backup area really would keep more than one backup for my one, single iPhone. They were all timed and dated with a drop-down menu (which appeared if I clicked the restore button) to choose which one I wanted to roll back to, for example. Sure, I'd read about the three backups thing etc. etc. and perhaps I got that wrong or misunderstood, but I can honestly say, I only ever had at the most two backups, that I could drop-down and choose to restore from. They were there. Same iPhone. Different dates.
       At the time, when this seemed to be the case, the backing-up process took quite a while. I would leave it to progress while I went and made a cup of tea, come back and it still wasn't finished running. So, not really AGES, but a little while.
       Now, when I perform a backup, the progress bar almost shoots across to a finish. I'll 'fess up... that worries me most of all. I can live without the luxury of a menu of backups... but if it does it once, I'd like to be sure it does it at all.
    Much more importantly though, thank you for your replies so far.
    Any further input, even if it's to belittle or shame is totally welcome. I'd like to understand this a bit more.
    Thanks again.

  • Slides in Navigator scroll too fast

    Dragging slides in Navigator to reorder my slides is nearly useless on my setup, as the slides scroll way, way too fast. Unless I have lightning quick reflexes, I find myself at the top or bottom of my presentation within a fraction of a second. Moving the slide to exactly where I want it is out of the question.
    Anyone else had this problem or found a solution? I use a mouse. I don't have problems with scrolling in other applications. Changing system-wide prefs did not change this.
    Many thanks / Matt

    I guess that Macbook is a lot snappier than my G5. I'd like that kind of problem. You can always grab the slider to the right of the slide and drag it where you want it as slow or fast as you wish.

  • T440s UltraNav Touchpad Scroll Too Fast and Jerky

    Wife purchased a T440s in November.  Arrived December.  I installed Windows 8.1 from scratch, and it worked.  Then on Friday, Jan 31st 2014, I ran the driver update tool from Lenovo.  It upgraded the driver to 17.0.12.60.  She noticed that scrolling became much more unreliable.  She could sometimes not get docs/webpages to scroll until she clicked around the page.  Then she could get scrolling to work again.  Also, scrolling speeds increased _dramatically_ to the point it was unusable.  Also, the scrolling was quite jerky.  So I rolled the driver back to 17.0.12.56 and immediately she noticed a difference.  She was able to successfully scroll again and scrolling wasn't too fast and much smoother.
    Others have noticed this on Notebook Review's forum.  I'm going to ask those people to come here and add their comments.
    Can Lenovo please fix the UltraNav driver?  Thanks!

    Yes, I experienced the same problem. Two finger scrolling became unusable (way too fast and erratic) after an upgrade to UltraNav 17.0.12.60. Reverting back to 17.0.12.56 fixed the issue.
    Please fix this in the next version. Thank you!

  • Parallax scrolling too fast outside of Muse preview

    I'm trying to get the hang of parallax scrolling, but how it previews with Muse differs greatly from any actual browser.
    I export the HTML file, it pops open in Chrome and looks great. But if I try to open the HTML file from the folder into Chrome, or preview the site after it's uploaded to the web, suddenly the scrolling is way too fast. Everything disappears with one flick of the mouse scroll wheel. It also happens in Firefox and IE.
    I've tried importing scripts, but again, it effects the Muse preview, but not the actual site in the end.
    Is this a common problem? How should I approach to work around this?
    Thanks!
    I'm using the latest version of Muse. Chrome is up to date. I am on a Windows 7 computer.

  • An enemy to follow me around the screen but not too fast

    Hi I'm building English teaching apps but through games.
    I'd like a BUG enemy to follow me around but NOT TOO fast as I have little kids of 5 years old using this,
    Would it be something like get the coordinates of my HERO character and send the BUG there.
    I use POINT at the moment to send my HERO to where the mouse clicks.
    Could I send the BUG there as well but using less x and y increments.
    Would this be too much for the processor - too much going on with music playing as well?

    again, don't remove it:
    var speed:Number=.99;
    public function onEnterFrame(event:Event):void {
    var xDistance:Number=clickPoint.x-this.hero.x;
    var yDistance:Number=clickPoint.y-this.hero.y;
    if (Math.abs(xDistance)>10) {
    var angle:Number=Math.atan2(yDistance,xDistance);
    this.hero.x+=v*Math.cos(angle);
    this.hero.y+=v*Math.sin(angle);
    } else {
    this.hero.gotoAndPlay("static");
    enemy1.x = speed*enemy1.x+(1-speed)*hero.x;
    enemy1.y = speed*enemy1.y+(1-speed)*hero.y;
    if (clickPoint.x>=hero.x) {
    this.hero.gotoAndPlay("right");
    //trace(Math.abs(xDistance));
