Clone R12.1.3 in Windows Cluster environment

Hi Oracle gurus,
I’m currently “fighting” with cloning the already fresh installed R12.1.3 instance on Windows Cluster architecture:
Source system:
Fresh install EBS 12.1.3 on 1 physical server:
- Windows 2008 R2;
- Application on drive D;
- DB 11.2.0.2 on drive E;
Target system (single instance):
- MS Windows failover Cluster – 2 physical servers with shared SAN drives D: and E:
o oracleHQ1 – active;
o oracleHQ2 – passive;
o OracleERP – virtual cluster hostname;
- Windows 2008 R2 on both server’s C: drive;
- ApplicationTier on shared D: ;
- DB on shared E: ;
- Oracle FailSafe on both server’s C: ;
- DB (DB and DB Listener) and Apps (APPS_listener, ConcManager and OPMN) services are running on oracleHQ1 when active; same services started on oracleHQ2 in case of oracleHQ1 (hardware) fail.
- EndUsers logging through one url: http:\\oracleerp.domain.com:8000 to the active server;
- (My customer will prevent hardware failover through this solution.)
What are the steps to clone the source instance to the target, in order to have active/passive failover solution? I prefer to spare the steps, I’ve already done so far, to avoid misleading.
Please advise/guide, as I’m in a stuck for 2 weeks.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
here are the details:
First try:
All the preclone steps are done as per DocID 406982.1
On the target (logged onto oracleHQ1):
-     Successfully cloned and configured the DB with hostname OracleERP (virtual cluster hostname);
-     Successful appsTier adcfgclone.pl and AutoConfig with hostname OracleERP (virtual cluster hostname);
-     All the DB and apps services (named with “*OracleERP*”) are starting on oracleHQ1, except the Concurent Manager (fails 30sec. after start);
-     Not tried to clone on oracleHQ2 with with hostname OracleERP;
Second try:
On the target (logged onto oracleHQ1):
-     Successfully cloned and configured the DB with hostname OracleERP (virtual cluster hostname);
-     Successful appsTier adcfgclone.pl and AutoConfig with hostname oracleHQ1 (virtual cluster hostname);
-     All the DB (named with “*OracleERP*”) and apps services (named with “*oracleHQ1*”) are starting on oracleHQ1;
-     The instance is working fine, but unable to clone the same services on oracleHQ2;
My question is:
Should I clone the DB and the Apps firstly with hostname oracleHQ1 (logged through oracleHQ1), or I should clone it with hostname OracleERP (virtual cluster hostname)? And how are the same services created and configured on the second server oracleHQ2 (should the services have the identical names), in case of failover.
Thank you
Krasen

  • Windows Cluster Environment

    Hi all,
    Do you know if B1 supports Windows Cluster Environment or Network Load Balancing Environment.
    The customer wants to to load B1 SAP on a failover environment so that if B1 Server dies, it will failover to secondary B1 SAP server.  Can you let me know if this is a possiblity and also what config needs to be done on server side?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John O'Brien

    Hi John,
    To be able to answer your enquiry, I would like to point you to the Portal > Product Availability > Supported Platforms.
    Link:
    https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/smb/knowledge/
    At this location, you will find all the supported platforms, Server, Client, Database.
    It is recommended to implement all the potential new systems in accordance to this list of supported platforms since they have been tested, verified and passed.
    Hope you will find it helpful.

  • Changing the listener port number in a cluster environment

    Hello,
    I have an Oracle 10g database on a Windows cluster environment with Oracle Fail safe. I am trying to change the default listener port number - these are the steps I have done to change the port number:
    1) Take the listener offline via Oracle Fail safe
    2) stop the original listener from the command line
    3) change the port number in the listener.ora file & save
    4) start the original listener
    5) bring the listener online in Fail safe
    6) register the listener in the database with ALTER SYSTEM SET LOCAL_LISTENER....
    After all this, when i check the status of the listener via lsnrctl, i see that the new port number is used, however in the Fail safe administrator, I still see the default port 1521. How do I go about changing the port number so that Fail safe also registers the change?

    I did troubleshooting to verify the group, but this just changed the port number back to the default in the listener.ora & tnsnames.ora.
    So I did all the steps again to change the port number from the default to another - via lsnrctl status, i see that the new port number is being used, I can also log in to the database via Toad using the new port number, in v$parameter i see that the local_listener is registered on the new port number....only under the Fail Safe manager, the port number (under listener parameter) has not changed....it still shows the default port number. Anyone know how to change this???

  • Oracle In Windows Cluster

    Hi
    We are having a windows cluster environment? I want to add Oracle to this environment. There are a few issues
    1) Could we add Oracle standard edition to windows cluster?
    Please provide me some document depicting the process to do so.
    Thanks

    Fail Safe .... I understand that only one node will be active at any time. When one fails, second node is up and the traffic is routed to the second one.

  • Installation of CRM 2007 in Windows with oracle and cluster environment

    Dear Experts,
    We are about to start the installation of CRM 2007 (ABAP+JAVA) with
    Oracle 10g on Windows x64 in cluster environment. In the SAPINST dialog
    box under High availability option, I could see installation options like ASCS
    Instance, SCS Instance, First MSCS node, Database Instance, Additional
    MSCS Node, Enqueue Replication Server, Central Instance and Dialog
    Instance.
    I have gone through the installation guide. I have below queries
    regarding the same. Can you please clarify the same
    1) Our requirement is we want to have an ACTIVE-ACTIVE cluster setup
    with sap service running in Node A and Database running in Node B. Can
    we have this setup in ABAP+JAVA setup
    2) Also,in the SAPINST dialog box as said above except last two
    (Central and Dialoge instance) as per standard installation guide are
    to be installed in shared drives as per the requirement. But, central
    and dialog are said to be installed locally on any one node in MSCS or
    in separate server. As per my understanding Dialog instance will be
    used for load balancing which we do not require now. Hence I feel this
    is optional in our case. Where as Central Instance I am not able to
    understand why this option is for? Is it mandatory to be installed or optional. If
    so, when I installed it in one of the MSCS node the incase of failover
    how does it effect the system. As per my understanding ASCS and SCS
    comprise central instance.
    Please clarify and thanks in advance.

  • SAP R/3 4.7 SR1 Migration to MSCS cluster environment

    Hi all,
    We are planning to move our existing standalone server R/3 production server to cluster environment.
    I have some queries regarding this migration
    Our R/3 system is running on SAP R/3 4.7x1.10 SR1 on Windows 2003 and Oracle 9.2
    1. Central Instance has to be installed in local disk or shared disk
    2. Is it correct to R3load procedures to export data from old server and import during Database installation
    3. Presently our server is running with kernel 640, but for the new installation kernel will be 620. So when can i upgrade kernel immediately after central instance installation or after CI and DB Instance installation.
    Give me some inputs
    Thanks & Regards
    KT

    Hi, the best place for your questions would have been the forum SAP on Windows.
    However, here the answers.
    1) CI must be on a shared disk
    2) Right, if you don't change the database platform and its release you can also use backup/restore
    3) Right. You can also perform the installation with the latest NW04 installation master

  • How to Process Files in Cluster Environment

    Hi all,
    We are facing the below situation, and would like to know your opinions on how to proceed.
    We have a cluster environment ( server a and server b). A ESP Job is picking the files from a windows location and placing it in the unix location( server a or server b).
    The problem is ESP job can place the file in only one server. This will affect the basic purpose of the cluster environment (then the file will always be processed from that particular server only).
    If we place the file in both the servers, then there are chances that the same file can be processed mutilple times.
    Is there a way that the load balancer can direct the file to either one of the server based on the load of the servers(just like how it does with the BPEL processes).
    Or are there any other suggestions/solutions for this.
    Thanks in Advance !!
    Regards

    Have you ever meet the following problem or have any suggestion for it? Thanks a lot.
    There are machine A and B have been setup successfully in a cluster environment, everything is fine.
    However, after the machine B reboots, the Oracle BI Server and Presentation Server in machine B could not start.

    The detail information is:
    1)     Machine A and B both run Windows 2008 server 64bit.
    2)     Machine A runs Admin Server+BI_Server1(managed server). Machine B is configured with “Scale out an existing installation” option and runs BI_Server2(managed server).

    5)     Before machine B reboots, everything is fine. All the servers could be started.
    6)     After machine B reboots, the managed server BI_server2 could be started successfully. However, “opmnctl startall” would incur the above error message.

  • Installation of SAPCCM4X-Agent on Windows Cluster

    Hi!
    I woulld like to install SAPCCM4X-Agent on Windows Cluster.
    Does anyone know the procedure here (e.g. install the agent twice on both nodes, etc.)...
    Thank you very much!
    regards
    Thom

    Hello Thom,
    Here is a note that will help you out.
    SAP Note 536954 - OS data in a cluster environment for OS07
    As per the note
    The CCMS agent must be located on a shared disk, so that the cluster administrator software can start the service later.

  • Database control in a cluster environment

    Hello DBA's
    Is it possible to use the database control in a windows cluster with oracle fail safe? I haven't found any documentation to this topic (only with RAC).
    I have two possibility's:
    1. To use it as a cluster service where I could connect with the clustername/IP address?
    Yet couldn't configure it right by my own.
    2. To use it as normal service where allways the active note can connect to the database control? (Problem with the Host-Names because each note has there own)
    I use Oracle 10.1.0.4 database with NO grid control only em database control.

    I found a Metalink entry how you can configure the Oracle Enterprise Manager in a FailSafe Environment but only for Grid Control:
    Note:396659.1     How To Setup Grid Control Central Agent Manually in Oracle Failsafe Environment
    Is there a script/guide to do it with the local "enterprise manager database control"?
    Replying to mnazi: Ok it is an overview and they mean that it is better to implement the enterprise manager to a management server but I couldn't found any hot information in the documentation to that. Maybe you know further info's?

  • SQL PATCH IN CLUSTER ENVIRONMENT

    Dear All,
    One of my client is having SAP ECC6.0 , SQL 2005 , windows 2003 64 bit.
    They are having SQL 2005 version 9.00.1399 and according to SAP it is no more supported so they want to upgrade it to 9.00.4035.
    In DEV and QAS (non cluster environment) they are already having 9.00.4035 .
    - Can you guys please guide me about how to apply SQL patch in Cluster environment.
    - Shall I apply patch 9.00.4035 directly from 9.00.1399
    - Any recommendations before and after applying patched
    Kindly guide.
    Regards,
    Rmoihnitii

    Hello my friend
    Unfortunately this is not a zero down time solution since Database Services and Analysis Services checkboxes will not be available while patching SP3:
    1. Launch SP3 package on the active node;
    2. Select authentication mode for the instance you are going to update;
    3. Enter credentials of the login you want to run service pack on behalf of;
    4. Click all the way next to start installing;
    Then you need to update the inactive node it is necessary to execute all the steps except steps 2 and 3. There can be some problems with updating database service in the cluster. Restart of each node of the cluster and restart of the cluster service usually resolves all the problems. After restart try to update database service one more time.

  • Berkeley DB on Windows Cluster

    Does anyone have experience running a Windows service that uses Berkeley DB on a typical active/passive Windows Cluster with shared disks? Is it even possible with Berkeley DB? Just to avoid confusion, I am not talking about replication, but about a failover situation, where one instance of the service gets deactivated, another one activated, and both would access the same (shared) RAID5 disk array which holds the BDB database files.
    Karl

    Hi Karl,
    Berkeley DB has not been tested on Windows clusters
    and so it is not an officially supported platform.
    Here's my understanding of the scenario:
    There are two nodes that are connected to the same
    shared disk. One of the nodes is active, and the
    other is a passive standby. The Berkeley DB
    application is running on one node and accessing data
    on the shared disk. When the primary fails, the
    Windows cluster services (I believe it used to be
    called Wolfpack?) will allow you to failover the
    application to the other (passive) node and continue
    processing. There are also services to fail back,
    once the original node is restarted.Yes, that is correct.
    >
    I believe that Windows cluster services will control
    access to the disk and ensure that BDB running on the
    passive node will only access the disk when the
    primary fails.Yes. Actually, the passive node has no control over the
    shared disk, so the BDB application can only open the
    environment after the passive node becomes active and
    gains access to the shared disk.
    So, I'm tempted to say that this scenario should
    work, assuming you're using Windows services
    correctly. To my knowledge, there's nothing in
    Berkeley DB to prevent this usage. On the other
    hand, you'll be relying on the underlying OS services
    to give the correct semantics wrt. accessing the
    shared storage. For example, if BOTH nodes were to
    write to the shared storage, you will most likely get
    data corruption, since BDB does not synchronize disk
    access ACROSS nodes.That will not happen, as the services on the passive node have
    no access to the shared disk.
    I'll continue to ask around for a better answer. In
    the meantime, I'd encourage you to continue your
    testing and keep us posted. If you prefer, you can
    contact me directly at ashok dot joshi at oracle dot
    com.Thanks for your feedback.
    My current theory is that a failover is equivalent to a
    BDB application crashing and being restarted.
    So one has to re-open the environment and run recovery
    before continuing work.

  • Moving ECMI repository to a new location - cluster environment doesn't work

    Hello all,
    Actually, we have the "default" configuration in the ECMI properties, and we want to move to a new location the File system repository (another disk location).
    After reviewing the ECM doc's we found the way and the parameters to reconfigure (ContentStorePath) and we put an absolute path ( "H:\content ') instead "Default" value , but we have an issue on this.
    Because our system runs in cluster mode (2 node instances), this configuration only works fine with one node, and the other doesn't work, displaying the "Content Folder Doesn't Exists" error.
    Both nodes runs' on separated machines and we want to know what is the correct way to configure this feature in a cluster environment.
    Best Regards

    I should note that now my local users inside the office are getting outlook errors, showing 3 checkmarks 2 green one red,  regarding the cert, and the red  checked box says:  The name on the certificat is invalid or does not match the name
    of the site.
    They can  bypass the error by clicking Continue, but installing it does only work for a short time before the error comes back. I think that would result from the setup in outlook pointing towards either SRV01 or SRV01.mydomain.local  instead of
    mail.mydomain.com
    The cert error on the android devices was saying Invalid certificate, do you want to continue, or similar, except clicking continue just paused a short while and brought up the same window.
    Now I am getting an error, on the android, saying Invalid username or password - when I KNOW it is valid
    In regards to DNS being set up correctly - I never had a mail. A record setup prior to purchasing the commercial cert - we just used the router IP in the phones and were able to get activesync working. For some reason with the new IP / ISP we could not access
    by IP.  So I got the SSL, and added a mail A record to DNS, pointing to our router IP, and our router has always routed activesync/443 traffic correctly, and none of that was changed
