Close Cropping

How do I close crop an image with an undefined and angled edge? What tool(s) do I need?

The image I have is a scarf with a 'feathered' edge. (See scan). Or, it could be any image, for example, in a people shot, close cropping around their heads and shoulders to remove an unwanted background.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

  • Dark outline of pixels around images in PDF

When saving a pdf from Illustrator,  close cropped PSD images have a dark edge of pixels in the final PDF. It looks like a black outline when viewed in Acrobat. I have since found if I flatten the transparency before saving as a PDF , it displays fine. Why is the PDF having problems with Illustrator’s use of transparency?

When you export your PDF in Adobe Illustrator then change these settings:
Adobe PDF Preset to High Quality Print
    Standard to PDF /X-1a:2001
Now export your PDF, you will see that your problem is fixed, no need to say thanks to me.
Same problem show in Adobe InDesign too, here is video tutorial showing how can your export your pdf in InDesign:

  • Strange question HAIR

    Hey,
Just wondered if anyone else had this weird problem...
Sometimes when I finish making a call my hair sometimes gets caught in the silence/vibrate switch on the side of the phone. I'm pretty sure it is this part and sometimes it's a little painful!?
The other weird thing is that I'm a guy with close cropped hair!? I'd understand if I had flowing locks
So, not a joke post, I love my Iphone, but wondered if anyone else had experienced this?

    Funny!
Oddly enough, this happened to me on more than one occasion with my OLD cell phone (a Cingular 3125), but thus far, not with the iPhone
And like you, I have very short hair - it was my sideburns that would catch.
    Cheers,

  • Does your Ipad speakers make a static noise?

    Hi world,
I am curious to hear from others about whether or not they are getting a static hiss from their iPad when any system notification sounds or music is paused.
You may need to place your ear up to the speaker but mine is audible in a quiet room from around 2 feet and is rather annoying.
I visited a genius bar and they confirmed the static but the replacement iPad also had this noise so they were unwilling to proceed any further.
Am curious as to whether its just mine or other people have issues.
If you have had problems - Could you advise how they were dealt with?
    Many thanks for your time,
    Fractal

Wow, these must be some E.T. iPads out thereplaying "perfect sounds" without this hiss in them (they must have some automatic-cleaning feature on, LOL).
The thing is that samples used for notification events are not perfectly clear and they have this "hissing" noise (not very loud though) in the background, basically "built-in" the sound samples. Mine does too, and every single one at Apple store (display units) does the same. Trust me I checked it myself because I was also curious to find out. Apple store is located just 500 feet from where I live, so going there costed me nothing.
True, this hissing background noise should not be heard from a far, only when you put your iPad's speaker very close to your ear (almost closing your ear-hole), and only immediately after playing those specific notification sounds. Hissing could last from few seconds, up to almost a minute, depending how close cropped those sounds were. I guess someone did a sloppy job at Apple when editing these sounds.
Don't worry, it's not your hardware that's defective, it's Apple's software. They could easily fix it if they clean up those system sounds and update everything with next OS update.

  • After I have cropped a photo how do I save it.  Something is wrong, my computer will not let me close photoshop

I cropped a photo and saved it as a TIFF.  I can not close down photo shop or burn the photo to a disk.  How do I save the photo once I crop it?

Use the menu option File>Save As. When you close photoshop, it should have asked you if you want to save the file. If photoshop does not ask you and refuses to close, odds are something else is wrong.
First try resetting the preferences. (ctrl-alt-shift for windows and cmd-opt-shift for mac as you start photoshop) If done right it will ask you if you want to reset the preferences.
Next thing to do is uninstalling then reinstalling photoshop.
If that still does not help, then it may be time to contact Adobe.

  • Slideshow crop photos problem when i close the thumbnail botton

In the slideshow i use thumbnail photo "turned on" to change the pictures (is it the only way to do it?)  and manage them with crop function but when i later close thumbnail (i don't want visible) photos resize. Any suggestion ?

I have not a link yet, i'm preparing the graphic layout at the time. I bypassed the problem importing in muse the right photos size without use crop. Maybe i should see better edit photo functions tutorials. I'm new with Muse.

Is there any way to get a closer close-up than cropping in imovie?
I've got a portion of the video as close as I can through cropping, but it's still not as close as I would like it. Is it possible?

    not really ....
keep in mind: zooming into video degrades quality dramatically - therefor, for your convenience, the cropping features is limited to some factor.
to override that limitation, two options:
    • create a project with just this clip; crop it; export/share Quicktime; re-import to iMovie, crop again - again: everything beyond 150-200% is, on my behalf, way beyond 'accepatable'.
    • reveal original clip in Finder (cmd-click on it in the Events browser), and open it with free MpegStreamclip - it allows a 'all you can eat' cropping ....

Maybe I'm missing something, but out of the clear blue sky, when I grab the crop tool, drag to the desired crop and hit enter, the entire image dissappears. Any clues?

You have set it to a fixed size in the tool options and it crops to 1x1 pixels or something liek that. Reset the tool and everything will be okay.

  • Lightroom Bug: with GoPro Hero4 Silver Lens Profile, crop settings do not sync properly in Lightroom 5.7.1 when Constrain To Warp is checked

I was having a bit of difficultly in getting crop settings to properly sync in Lightroom 5.7.1 (running on OS X 10.10.1) when Constrain to Warp was checked.  This appears to be a bug in the latest version(s) of Lightroom that include(s) the GoPro Hero4 Silver Lens Profile settings.  I'm working with a lot of files from a GoPro Hero4 Silver camera shot in the time-lapse / interval timer mode.  All of them are horizontal with the same resolution (and dimensions).  I've tried various sequences to get this to work in terms of using Auto-Sync, resetting the settings on all images except one and then copy and pasting settings, etc, though the crop is not properly syncing regardless of what I do.
Here's are instructions of how to duplicate this issue (there are some extra details/steps here, though this should be clear enough to produce the same result):
         1.  in the Develop settings for a single selected image, go to Lens Corrections, click to Enable Profile Corrections (in the Profile tab), and then pick the GoPro Hero4 Silver Edition (Adobe Profile) if it is not automatically chosen for you (if you are using files from a Hero4 Silver camera).  After this, click on the Manual tab, and set the Scale setting to 76.  (as you will see, you now have the full horizontal width of the image that was getting cropped off, though you do see white around the edges that have been warped/shaped to correct the fisheye distortion)
         2.  Press the R key (or click on the Crop Overlay tool just below the histogram).  Change the Aspect option to Custom.  Click to unlock the lock next to it (this seems to re-lock after setting to custom even if it was locked before).  Place a checkmark next to the Constrain To Warp option.  (At this point, you'll see the image gets cropped back to an approximately 4:3 ratio and the full horizontal width is not included in the cropped area)  Click the upper right most corner of the crop area and drag as much to the right and top as it lets you go.  Do the same for the lower left corner, dragging it as far to the bottom left as you can go.  (Now, you will see that your cropped area is the maximum rectangular width and height you can select without getting any of the excessive white area)  Click the Close button (or press R again) to leave the crop overlay tool.
         3.  Press G to go back to the grid of images.  Make sure the image you just adjusted the settings for is the only one selected.  Right click on it, go to Develop Settings, and click Copy Settings.  Click Check All on the window that appears and then click Copy.
         4.  De-select the image you were working on.  Select multiple other images in the grid.  Right click on one of these, go to Develop Settings, and click Paste Settings.  (at this point, you will see their aspect ratio has become more panoramic than the 4:3 aspect ratio the images previously were)
         5.  De-select these images.  Select one of these image, and then press D to go to the Develop settings for this image.  Press R to go to the Crop Overlay tool.  Here you will see the bug where the crop was not properly copied over from the first image.  The selected area is smaller than the full width and height available to crop.
It seems that the bug is that Lightroom is only copying the aspect ratio (and the other settings), but not the actual crop selection.
I just thought of a workaround that I've tested and can confirm works (and will also work in a slightly different workflow than above).  In step 1 above, for the Model (and Profile), manually pick the "GoPro Hero4 Black Edition" or the "GoPro Hero3-Silver Edition".  If using the "Hero3-Silver" setting, the Scale (also in step 1 above) need only be set to 79 (rather than 76 for the Hero4 profiles).  By picking one of these Lens Profiles and doing everything else the same as the other steps above, the crop settings do copy and paste properly.  This does also appear to work properly when selecting the "GoPro Hero3-White Edition" Lens Profile, with a Scale setting of 75, which yields a slightly more rectilinear image (with a wider aspect ratio -- almost, but not quite 16:9).
While this isn't too big of deal as it does work by picking one of the other lens profiles (and the Hero4 Black Edition profile appears to make the same exact correction to the image), this was incredibly frustrating last night to notice that some files had the proper horizontal field of view / crop and others didn't, and other users may experience this or not even notice their crop is not copied properly (as, depending on one's composition and image, it's not extremely obvious with such a wide view).
I hope this discovery helps someone else and provides feedback for Adobe to correct this issue in the next version of Lightroom 5.
On a separate, additional note for Adobe:  Please allow the crop overlay tool to "crop" an image to a size that is larger than the original dimensions of the image.  This would allow for one to retain maximum original sharpness in the center of the image when using the Lens Profile tool to correct, or "de-fish" a lens, without having to scale the image down with the Scale option on the Manual tab of the Lens Corrections settings.  For example, when I do the above process selecting the Hero3-White Edition profile, my final image dimensions are 3840 by 2257 pixels, reducing the size of the image in the center by 25%.  If the tool allowed one to crop/scale a larger image size, and I kept the Scale option of the Lens Corrections settings at 100 rather than 75, my final image dimensions would be 5120 by 3009 pixels (larger than the 4000 by 3000 pixel dimensions of the original image which the tool now limits me to).  Yes, the edges would be a little softer but the center would retain the original detail.  (this is essentially what the Calculate Optimal Size button found in the Hugin open source software does, when using it on a single image for lens transformations/corrections)

Can you zip up a few of your GoPro images, upload them to dropbox.com and post a share link, here, so others can experiment with them, or do you mean this issue is global to all camera models?

  • IMovie HD Crop plugin corrupted

    Hey All...
Does any one know how to fix the crop plugin in iMovie HD 6. This plugin stopped working for reason unknown, after giving an error message "Something wrong with the plugin Crop"
    Thanks,

Try deleting the imovie preference file.
    Close Imovie.
Then locate a file named com.apple.imovie.plist and get rid of it. Then empty the trash, run a permissions repair with disk utility and restart. That might do it. The files you need to delete are found in:
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist

When trying to update my Mail Account Mailbox Behaviours settings, after making the changes when I try to close the settings pane the following messages occur: Invalid Incoming Mail Server The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty. The incoming mail server box has in light grey colour: p02-imap.mail.me.com in it and I cannot edit its content. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hi all,
Mattreichenbach is probably on the right track here with a reset of settings.  I think I've determined the issue has to do with cached account information and inconsistencies for the account name.  This seems to crop up when I've changed my password and it hasn't propagated fully to all the servers, devices, certificates, etc.
Hopefully many here are on their way to restoration of service by now but it's clear that a lot of people are having the same issues.  Very frustrating and definitely something Apple needs to resolve:  incoming mail server field grayed out, incorrect autopopulation of different fields, other unanticipated behaviors.  If you're still having issues, though, here's what worked for me...
First, head to the iCloud preferences pane in System Configuration and choose "Sign Out".  When I did this it prompted me with a number of "are you sure" type questions about retaining information on my local machine.  I chose to delete/remove the info each time simply because it should all be restored by the cloud and I didn't want to risk a massive duplication of my data... I will say, I'm back up and running with no issues so I suspect you can make the same delete/remove choices...  But use your own judgment.  I don't want you to lose any data (ie.. please use care as you do this because I cannot bear the thought of causing anyone to experience the pain of data loss).
Once you've signed out of iCloud, restart your system.  When you get back in, head to the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your System Preferences and add your account back by choosing the brushed aluminum "iCloud" button.  When it asks for your account name, use your @iCloud.com email address.  I am all but certain my issue had started because one of my devices (iPhone or whatever) had been set up with an email alias specified instead of my @iCloud.com address.
Apple, if you're reading through any of these issues (there are TONS of users having this same problem).  Take note, that your icloud service somewhat frequently is not responding and yet tells the user that the password is wrong and this prompts people to be changing their passwords unnecessarily.  This has happened to me on numerous occasions.  Also, I noticed that last week's outage corresponded to a VERY similar outage exactly one year ago to the day.  Sounds like planned maintenance to me and I think you could do a better job notifying folks so we're not wasting HUGE amounts of time troubleshooting a problem that we have no hope of fixing.
Hope that helps some of you!

  • IPhoto 6 slow to open and close

I have a mac mini with an external drive connected via firewire. IPhoto 6 works really fast on the mac mini...no problems. I just got a new MacBook Pro and can mount the external drive...no problem.
When I open iphoto and point to the iPhoto library on the external drive, it takes forever to open. Once it is open, it is a bit sluggish, but works OK. Then it takes forever to close as well.
I didn't think the speed over Airport was that slow....am I wrong? Why the slowdown on the MacBook Pro and the mac mini is really fast? Thought it would be the other way around.
I called Apple Care and they had me reinstall Tiger...nothing changed. Please help. Thanks.

    Brent:
From the posts I've read about it accessing large data files like images over Airport is going to be rather slow. Close all of the rolls before closing and then see if that improves the closing and opening process. There's just a lot of data that has to be transferred.
Do check the Airport forum as there may be some tricks available that will help speed up the process.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Close ALL open files and save jpg with jpg option

    Hi,
I have some (a lot) of -jpg images to crop, and resize, while I have to do this one by one based on what portion of the image to crop, once done I need to close, and save them.
To speed up the process I open several files, and do the crop&resize, and when finished I use "close all", and would like to avoid to confirm the "save" dialogue, and the "jpeg options" "image quality option" dialogue, having to say save, and the option set to a given value.
Unfortunatelly I am not a coder, and didn't understand anything from the Javascript Scripting Reference guide.
    I found this
    app.docRef.close(SaveOptions.SAVECHANGES);
here, I pasted it into ExtendScript, saved it, but when opening the script from file > scripts > browse it returns error 21 (undefined is not an object)
Will you please kindly give me the script?
    Thank you

Add this snippet to a script file.
Load script file in PS scripts folder
    Restart photoshop
    Assign keyboard shortcut to script
    #target photoshop
    //Make Photoshop the formost Appplication
    app.bringToFront();
// Requires at least one open document
