Closing and Killing Portal Session Error

Hi Experts,
I'm getting some problems with my killing sessions. We did some implements with Integrated Planning and repots are running in the portal. I have noticed a dramatic low performance in my portal and I realized that sessions are not closing in the portal. I've been trying log our from the portal session and the session still alive (I seem them in SM04 transaction). How Could it be possible if I'm logging out properly?..... Is there something I've been missing???? What else Could I do for fixing the problem???
Thanks for your help (Any help would be rewarded).
David

Hi,
As far as understand you are running reports from an ABAP backend system in the portal and the sessions in the ABAP backend system are not closed by the portal.
Which technology are the reports based on (BSP, transaction) ?
It seems to me the Distributed session management(DSM) in the portal is not working  and therefore not triggering the closing of the sessions in the backend when the user logs off or navigates to another page.
(it might also be that the BSP is defined as stateful )
See http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ca/a9a7408f031414e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm for more info on DSM

  • Call function RFC in a loop and kill old session

    Hi,
    we have a problem with a program.
    here's a part of the code:
    DO.
        CALL FUNCTION 'YC_REFRESH_GPT_START_CM25' STARTING NEW TASK 'TEST'
          EXPORTING
            i_profile       = p_prfl
            i_werks         = p_werks
            i_arbpl_low     = s_arbpl-low
            i_arbpl_high    = s_arbpl-high
          TABLES
            t_arbpl =  it_arbpl.
        PERFORM wait_for_refresh.
        PERFORM terminate_session.
      ENDDO.
    So the program does a call function, waits a while, then terminates the session and recalls the function.
    Apparently, like this the data should be updated.
    But in the terminate session, the session is terminated using:
    CALL 'ThUsrInfo' ID 'OPCODE'  FIELD opcode_delete_mode
                       ID 'MODE'    FIELD l_mode.
    And it works the first time, but the second time there is a dump.
    So, is there another way to achieve what this program is trying to do?
    Or is there another way to kill the session?
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
    the DLL will stay in memory as long as there is a program running which has not closed (unloaded) the DLL.
    Doing repetitive calls to the DLL is irrelevant in this context. LV opens the DLL as soon as needed and will only unload it when there is no VI in memory which has a CLN to that DLL...

  • Logging of the OWA kills portal session

    Hi,
    I have integrated OWA iViews into Portal.
    The problem im facing is when im clicking the logoff button on the OWA
    iViews, the Portal session is killed.
    I confirmed this from the SAP Note 732911
    Could you please provide me with any updated solution or work around.
    whether the problem is rectified ??.
    Regards,
    Ricky

    The Problem has no solution as of now. It is confirmed when i raised an OSS Note for the same.
    According to the JSR page 63 line 25
    For portlets within the same portlet application, a portlet container must ensure that every portlet request generated as result of a group of requests originated from the portal to complete a single client request receive or acquire the same session.
    In addition, if within these portlet requests more than one portlet creates a session, the session object must be the same for all the portlets in the same portlet application.
    Hope this will help others immediately...without spending a long time by searching and raising OSS notes.

    What could be the reason for this and how can it be resolved. We are running Oracle 10.1.2 AS.
    Thanks.Nicolas asked the question about the Oracle Forums. Since this is a Forums Community issue, he correctly asked it in the "Community Feedback and Suggestions (Do Not Post Product-Related Questions Here)" Forums area.

  • Portal Session Timeout Setting

    There is a JServ session and a portal session. I know how to control session timeout and session clean up frequency in JServ - that's in zone.properties. But, I dont know how to set timeout for portal session, i.e., I'd like to have the user be forced to login again when he has been idle for 15 mins - and only if he has been idle. Jserv session settings are not sufficient for this because Portal has it's own session that must time out.
    How to set this timeout value (I'm using my own provider which has a timeout setting in zone.properties and includes a bunch of JSP portlets)? Also, is there a clean up thread for which the frequency has to be set?

    I've contacted metalink weeks ago, and this is NOW, a know bug...
    Incredible... Oracle just DO NOT TEST their products... Even a simple SESSION timeout do not work. Also, if I click back after "I log In and Log out" ... Session still up without have to login again!

    Hi Arti,
    You may want to check out how to use JDBC Datasources intead of the JDBC URL to connect to your database at the OC4J level. This method will manage the number of open db sessions that the OC4J can access. It is normal to have the sessions connected even after the browser has closed. It actually saves processing on the database because you don't need additional resources to open sessions, and you're reusing technology on connection management that is part of the database DNA. It is designed this way so that the OC4J can reuse existing connections for performance reasons among others.
    To do this on ADFBC, these are the files that you'll need to modify:
    1) data-sources.xml
    2) bc4j.xcfg for every application module to use JDBC Datasources instead of JDBC URL. (Right-click, configuration on the AM)
    However, for testing, the business component browser will need to use the JDBC URL connection.
    I hope this helps.

    How can i read and write to a variable session in oracle portal? to to like java set session and get session?Hi,
    You may want to see the wwsto_api_session here in [Portal APIs|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/html/plsqldoc/pldoc1012/index.html].
    "Working with the session object
    The general procedure for working with the session object is:
    1. Load the session object, with an appropriate domain and sub-domain combination, using the load_session method.
    2. Manipulate the content of the object using the set_attribute methods, or just access its content using the get_attribute methods.
    3. Force these changes to be saved, using the save_session method.
    Typically this sequence occurs within the scope of one client routine that extracts and/or sets all of the client states. For example:
    declare
    l_store portal30.wwsto_api_session;
    l_date date;
    begin
    l_store := portal30.wwsto_api_session.load_session ('PORTAL', 'TEST');
    l_store.set_attribute ('LAST_ACCESSED', sysdate);
    l_store.set_attribute ('USERNAME', 'SMITH');
    l_store.set_attribute ('COUNRTY_CODE', 1);
    l_store.set_attribute ('LOCATION', 'US');
    l_store.set_attribute ('LAST_LOGGED_ON', sysdate);
    l_store.set_attribute_as_string
    ('OFFICE_LOCATION', 'CALIFORNIA', 'US', 'STRING');
    l_store.save_session;
    end;
    The login session that creates the session storage object is defined by wwctx_api.get_sessionid. "
    ref: wwsto_api_session for Portal 10.1.2
    then, look for the functions for getting attributes as number, varchar2, string or index, etc. in the above link.
    hope that helps!

  • Portal Session Timeout and Logon Ticket Timeout

    Hi All,
    Can anyone give me answers to the following:
    - If my Portal session times out, but my logon ticket is still valid, will I lose my session data?
    - Is there any way of determining the size of a users session information in memory (or the size of all user sessions in memory). I can see in the Monitoring service in Visual Admin the number of sessions but not their individual or total size.
    I'm using EP7.
    Cheers,
    Steve

    Hi,
    the Logon Ticket is only used for SSO between the portal and the integrated system. Your session data is stored in the session. If the session times out or gets closed, the session data is lost.

  • SP_WHO2 and KILL sessions

    There is one app that opens a lot of sessions to a database and never closed for that app. At some point, there are 100 connections.

    For point 1. My recomendation is to communication with application team to review the source code and close all database connection once the operation is completed or the application is closed. Or they use connection pooling method. Such sessions
    are created due to poor programming standard at the application level.
    For point 2. My recomendation here is not to kill a spid which are in Running/Background status without prior informing to application team. This may break the consistency of information stored in the database due to incomplete transaction. Remote
    query timeout has nothing to do with incoming queries received by database engine.

  • Killing User Sessions upon closing window

    How can we kill the user session people if people just go in
    and close the window by hitting x on the top of the browser? Any
    feedback and help would be greatly appreciated.

    Technically, you can't kill a user's session upon them
    closing the window.
    What you _can_ do is use J2EE session tracking, or a
    transient cookie that gets deleted when the browser quits. That
    still doesn't kill the session when they close the window. The
    session remains active until the timeout time has elapsed.

    here's a recap:
    This Boolean element specifies whether to check for unclosed statements when a connection is returned to the pool. If it is true, a warning message is issued for each unclosed statement. If the log4j category org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.WrappedConnection has trace level enabled, a stack trace of the connection close call is logged as well. This is a debug feature that can be turned off in production.

    <p>
    OK. I found the problem along with a workaround.
    </p>
    <p>
    <strong>The problem:</strong>
    </p>
    <p>
    a programming practice clashes with a new jboss 'safety check'.
    </p>
    <p>
    <strong>Programming practice:</strong>
    </p>
    <p>
    crystal reports gets a database connection in one jsp page, then tries to use it on another jsp/servlet
    </p>
    <p>
    <strong>Jboss safety check:</strong>
    Jboss/tomcat new comes configured out-of-the-box with a 'cached connection
    manager', which
    </p>
    <p>
    "Check[s] for unclosed connections and transaction terminated checks in servlets/jsps."
    </p>
    <p>
    <strong> Summary</strong>
    </p>
    <p>
    In short, if a servlet/jsp ends and it leaves a database connection open, Jboss will automatically close it.
    </p>
    <p>
    </p>
    <p>
    <strong>Workaround:</strong><br />
    Comment out two entries in these two files:
    </p>
    <p>
    1) conf/jboss4/pe/deploy/jboss-web.deployer/server.xml
    </p>
    <p>
    2) conf/jboss4/pe/deploy/jboss-web.deployer/META-INF/jboss-service.xml
    </p>
    <p>
    The two entries:
    </p>
    <p>
    </p>
    <p>
    1)
    </p>
    <p>
                 <Valve className="org.jboss.web.tomcat.service.jca.CachedConnectionValve"<br />
                    cachedConnectionManagerObjectName="jboss.jca:service=CachedConnectionManager"<br />
                    transactionManagerObjectName="jboss:service=TransactionManager" /><br />
    </p>
    <p>
    2)
    </p>
    <p>
          <depends>jboss.jca:service=CachedConnectionManager</depends><br />
    </p>
    <p>
    </p>
    <p>
    <strong>Comments on the workaround</strong>
    </p>
    <p>
    The 'cached connection manager' basically makes sure that the application cleans up after bad programmers. It seems most helpful in development, load testing, or trouble shooting.
    </p>
    <p>
    In production,  you can likely  comment them out with minimal
    impact on the application.
    </p>
