Closing the Forms Background Page closes the Java-Window as well

Hi,
we are running Forms 10g and start the Applet in an separate window. This cannot be changed, because otherwise we lose some size of the Window and the Look and Feel is to different as with Client-Server mode.
If a User closes the Background-Window or starts a different URL in the Background-Window, the Java Applet is closed directly without any warning.
This isn't nice for the Users, but they have to live with it.
But if I'm running a couple of Forms-Sessions in the Applet maybe with Database-Locks as well, and somebody closes the BG-Window, those Forms-Sessions (frmweb.exe) keep running for ~ 5-10 Minutes and the Locks are kept as well.
Is this behaviour intentional or can it be changed ?
Any comments are welcome.
Mark

Hi Craig,
in principle I agree that it might be a training issue, but ...
the default setup for the IE at this customer-site is that Links don't open in a new window. We may change that, but who knows.
With this setting, the following happens quite normally.
Forms is started which leeds to the "Background-Window" and the Java-Applet.
If i minimize all windows and start f.e. Citrix or any other URL-Link, that link is opened in the Background-Window and the Forms-Java-Applet dies.
In theory this can be avoided by training, but I do not agree, that it is a reasonable behaviour to check all open windows before I start a new URL.
It just doesn't make sense in my opinion. It might be difficult to solve, but it still doesn't make sense.
But we've found a solution ourself at least for the accidential closing of the Backgrund-Window :
In formswegh.cfg we had a line like :
=======
HTMLbeforeForm=<_p align=center><_b>nicht schliessen</_b></_p><_p align=center><_b>sonst wird die</_b></_p><_p align=center><_b>Anwendung abgebrochen !</_b></_p>"
=======
we added an onBeforeUnload so that it looks like :
=======
HTMLbeforeForm=<_BODY onBeforeUnload="return ' Achtung Anwendung wird geschlossen !'"><_p align=center><_b>nicht schliessen</_b></_p><_p align=center><_b>sonst wird die</_b></_p><_p align=center><_b>Anwendung abgebrochen !</_b></_p>
=======
This leads to an "Is it OK"-question as soon as the BG-Windows is closed or another URL is called. This prohibits the Users of accident closing. If they still do it, it's their fault and than it is a training question.
Thanks for your input and maybe this help some others as well.

P.S.
the underlines before the p's and b's need to be deleted. Just because they are interpreted as HTML otherwise

  • Issue Tracker app closing the browser window on chart page

    Hi!
    I am walking through the Issue tracker tutorial. I have created page 10 (Issues Resolved by Month) which is the chart page. Everything looked fine until I try to run the page. Then it simply closed the browser window after it authenticates me. Anyone else see this? Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Probably a problem with your SVG viewer installation. Does it happen on other chart pages as well? What browser/svg viewer version combination are you using? There are some known issues with what's labeled as the current svg viewer on Adobe's website and Firefox.

    Hi Friends,
    Is there any option to open URL in a new window by closing the parent window on a button click?
    Already implemented the logics suggested in /people/mohammed.anzys/blog/2007/06/05/how-to-close-parent-window-in-webdynpro-applications , the thread ' URL in same window '  and the standard component WDR_TEST_EXIT_PLUG .But button is not triggerring any actions .plz help me  ..............
    Regards,
    Radhika

    hi,
    Do the following steps :
    -> Make an Outbound Plug to the Window.
    ->Make the type of Outbound plug to Exit Type.
    ->Add URL of type String as a parameter to the outbound plug of Window.
    ->Do remember to add Component Name in the Properties Tab of View ( othervs Calling Outbound plug of window from view wont b possible ).
    To open a new URL with closing the previous one write this Code in OnAction of Button : ( this Code can be get from Code Wizard too ).
    DATA lo_zexit TYPE REF TO ig_zexit .   <zexit is name of my Component>
    lo_zexit =   wd_this->get_zexit_ctr( ).
      lo_zexit->fire_out_window_plg(
        url =   'http://www.google.com'                            " string
    I hope it helps.
    Thanx.

  • Many times it happens that even I had closed the application window i had to manually  quit the application by going in 'forced quit'..any solution .. :(

     many times it happnes that even I had closed the application window  it keep running  on backend and I have to manualy close it again by going in  'forced quit'.. any solution....

    Closing the window doesn't quit the application on Mac like it does in Windows. You have to select Quit (Program Name) from the top menu or use the keyboard shortcut Command + Q

  • A second browser window will not open and then closing the 1st window firefox will restart. Taskmgr shows it still running, it will not restart until I end the process in taskmgr.

    I open the browser and close it every thing is fine. I open the browser and then attempt to open a second browser window, it will not open. Now because I've attempted to open a second browser window firefox will not restart after closing the open window. Until I've shut it down in the taskmgr. This just started the other day and I have removed the only update I made that was "flash" and I removed the 64 bit version of firefox.

    Win 7 with iTunes installed - I was also having problems with that.
    "netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt resolved all issues and Firefox launched normally.
    Check to see if Winsock is corrupted. May prevent FF from communicating with the web and consequently fails to launch properly - for my situation was not a firewall or antivirus block!
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936211#LetMeFixItMyselfAlways
    Click Start, and in Start Search, type cmd.
    Right-click the cmd entry that appears in the search results, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
    netsh winsock reset
    Then, you should see the following message:
    Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the computer in order to complete the reset.
    Restart the computer.
    Note If you receive an “Access Denied” error message instead of the message that is mentioned in step 3, the command prompt was not correctly elevated. In this case, close the Command Prompt window, and repeat steps 1 through 3. Make sure that you correctly implement step 2.

  • Closing the Capture window crashes Premiere

    Hi,
    I'm attempting to capture video from a Sony DHR-FX1. The capture window doesn't show the video as it plays, but it appears to record it; when I stop and save the clip, the saved video appears in the Library window with a visible thumbnail of the video. As soon as I close the capture window, Premiere suddenly shuts down.
    The settings in Premiere:
    HDV 1080i30 (60)
    29.97
    1440x1080 (1.33 anamorphic)
    16x9
    48kHz 16 bit
    The computer is a MacPro Tower with OSX Snow Leopard and I'm running version CS5.5.
    Thanks much,
    --Chaz

    My version of OSX is 10.6.2
    I purchased the Master Collection just this week so this is my first time using CS5.5 (and on a Mac no less). I downloaded the latest updates for Premiere [5.5.2] and there was a small improvement. Which now means the program doesn't crash immediately after closing the capture window, though it does eventually. I'm wondering if the crash when closing the capture may have been a coinidence before anyway.
    There was a small delay before my latest crash which gave me enough time to save a short 5-sec test snippet. The footage was still in the file when I restarted so we're headed in the right direction. I'm attempting to record the entire tape at once to see if I can manage to save that with the same results.
    Are there Codecs associated with this product or for the Mac that you're aware of?

  • How to create a Child Window without closing the parent Window

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to create a child window without closing the parent window. I have to click an item in the parent window, then one child window should get open. The parent window should not be closed before closing the child window.
    Kindly help me in this.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi All,
    I found the solution for this. I have created a new page. Then i created an item as link item style in the parent page and i have set the following properties in the Link item:
    Destination URI : OA.jsp?page=/seagate/oracle/apps/seasoa/que/webui/SeaSoaHeaderDetailPG&headerId={@ErrHeaderId}&retainAM=Y&addBreadCrumb=Y&backPage=S
    Target Frame     : _blank
    This is opening the new child window without closing the parent window.

  • My tabs are seperated into groups. Once I accidentaly opened a site in a new window (not a new tab). After that, I accidentaly closed the Firefox window with all my grouped tabs. Now, I can't recover it. Are there any solutions?

    I have my tabs seperated into several groups (for example, bank tabs, music tabs, social life tabs and so on). I do this with the help of the button in the top left corner. While I was surfing the internet, I accidentaly opened a site not in a new tab (as I usually do), but in a new window. The new window was without all the grouped tabs, which I had in the previous Firefox window. And then I accidentaly closed the Firefox window with all my grouped tabs. Now I can't recover it. Are there any solutions?

    Hi,
    We have rolled out a fix for this issue.
    Please log off and log back in to your machine and the issue should be resolved automatically. In case that does not work, please manually run the msi installer posted here (may require reboot).
    For details, please refer to the KB article here: Multiple RunOnce keys created 11.0.10 and 10.1.13 Acrobat | Reader
    Please let us know if you still face any issues.

  • When one window containing 1 tab is closed, the other window with several tabs closes also

    I have a set of web pages that reproducibly causes Firefox to act incorrectly. When Firefox is first started I click the "Restore previous desktop" button. Then I have 2 Firefox windows. The first to open has 6 tabs; the second has 1 tab. When I close the 2nd window (with 1 tab), it also closes Firefox completely with no error message. When I run Firefox again, "Restore" creates both windows exactly as they were before.
    I don't know yet if the actual URLs make a difference, but here they are anyway:

    ***** NOTE THIS TAB IS PROBLEMATIC *****
    When I press Alt+D, Ctrl+C, and Ctrl+V it into this comment box, I get
    '''woot'''
    When I look at the actual contents of the web page being displayed, it is the verizon wireless rebate page:
    '''www.verizonwireless.com/rebates'''
    The page has definitely finished being rendered (the refresh icon is displayed after the url "woot"), but the URL does not match the page. The URL displayed is not even in its proper form (i.e., www.woot.com).
    Remember that this page was RESTORED by Firefox from a previous session. It is as if I was on that tab at verizon, tried to go to woot.com by typing "woot" (which would of course bring up a search rather than the web page), DIDN'T PRESS ENTER, and Firefox is duplicating that entire sequence.

    With this exact set of windows and tabs, as restored by Firefox in a brand new instance of it, double-clicking the red Firefox in the top left corner of the 2nd window causes both windows to close.
    I wish I could save this configuration so I could always reproduce the error, but I need my computer :)

    You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
    Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Closing the browser window in Java

    Hi All,
    My wireless application works on a PDA browser. The PDA browser doesn't support javascript. When user wants to logoff from the application, he clicks on the logoff button. After clicking it the current browser window should close.
    I am using XHTML-MP markup language to develop the page instead of HTML.
    I need a piece of code (Example Java code, not Javascript code) in order to close the current window browser.
    Any help will be welcome.
    Shrikant

    There is no such code, I hope.I wouldn't be sure about PDAs. I haven't used one yet. But logically, there should not be any code like that.

  • Bookmarks opens in a window 2/3's the size of my screen since the latest update. Now the first bookmark I scroll over covers the whole window instead of too the side and I can't close it without closing the bookmarks window

    I kept getting a reminder I had a Firefox update I needed to install. I did last night but never opened Firefox again till this morning. Now when I click on bookmarks for the drop down it opens a window almost 2/3's the size of my screen instead of the narrow window it has in the past. Now as soon as I move my mouse over or close to any bookmark it opens up that bookmark in the window and I can't access the bookmark I want. I have to close the whole window and then be very careful as I move my mouse to the correct bookmark. In the past with the narrow window it opened the bookmarks to the side and only after you clicked on them. I have tried to resize the window but can't find any option to do so. Also couldn't find an option that would let me change it so a bookmark had to be clicked on. If this can't be changed I will be removing Firefox. This is too inconvenient for me.

    Take it to your local Apple Store or AASP, it's covered by a 1 year hardware warranty. If you have AppleCare then give them a call but I'm pretty sure they will advise the same. If you have not purchased AppleCare yet please do, this will extend the warranty to 3 years however it MUST be purchased within the first  year of ownership. Let it go 366 days and you are out of luck. AppleCare will also include telephone support too.
    Good luck.

  • Closing one window (x in top right corner) will try to close the second window as well.

    If I have two different windows open with tabs, and I try to close 1 window (no tabs), it will also try to close down the second window and ALL the tabs it contains as well. This has never happened in previous versions.
    But when I use the shortcut control w, the window closes fine.

  • I was playing with the Group Tabs/Panorama function and accidentally closed all of my tabs. Then I closed the browser window. Is there any way to restore all my tabs?

    I'm using Firefox 6.

    I have the same issue and didn't even close my browser. I closed a tab group, and they're ''gone''. I've always used ''warn me when closing multiple tabs''; why didn't it prevent this?
    I dutifully updated to 6.0.1 (Win7 Pro 64bit SP1) today, and saw "''Tabs, meet groups''." I played briefly with a group and then clicked (x).
    While exploring the UI, I had assumed I was manipulating a filter rather than the actual tabs. No reason to suspect this would close an entire window's worth. The "restore tab group" button suggested I'd merely ungrouped the tabs. No biggie; new feature playtime is over for now. The background blur was still present, so again no worry that my six or eight tabs were about to be annihilated.
    The recently closed window list includes three pages from yesterday. Naturally the recently closed tabs ''from the other window'' aren't here.
    My full history is sorted by visit date; why isn't each tab added to today's list after a restart? Now I'll search the entire history to ensure I'm not forgetting one. Tab groups are likely quite nifty, but for now I'm irritated with 'em.
    '''Why didn't "''warn me when closing multiple tabs''" kick in''' to alert me?!
    SUGGESTION:
    '''''Warning:''' The 'tabs group' feature does not care if you've checked "warn me on closing multiple tabs." If you click the (x), you're hosed.''

  • Closing the browser windows created by web.show_document and javascript

    From Forms I am issuing a http request using web.show_document and javascript:window.open(). The http request makes a remote procedure call to a coldfusion component on a JRun appserver. I want this rpc to fire in the background so that the current forms browser window remains as is.
    The logic is as follows
    l_rpcURL := 'http://....just a standard URL.....'; -- edited for this thread
    l_jsURL := 'javascript:window.open("' || l_rpcURL || '","","fullscreen=no,titlebar=no,location=no,toolbar=no,menubar=no,status=no,resizable=no");self.close();';
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT (l_jsURL,'_blank');
    The http request works fine but leaves a browser window behind. It's the one created by the javascript.window.open(). If I remove the self.close() from the javascript then I have two browser windows open, one from web.show_document and the other, as described previously, from the window.open().
    Any idea how I can force closure of the window opened by the window.open() ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    did this occured afer installing service pack 2?
    A work around is The only solution that is to create a close.html file and calling this file in the code: Web.show_document('http://server:port/close.html','_self');
    <html>
    <body onload="closeit()">
    <script>
    window.close();
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>

  • Closing the browser window

    I have a page that opens vignettes [videos] built using Captivate in a new window.  What I'd like is to close this window once the video has stopped playing i.e. reached the last slide/frame.
    I've tried setting properties on the last slide in the project to "Execute Javascript" and using "window.close();" as the code. But this doesn't seem to close the browser window. If I change the JS to something like "alert('Hello');", it works i.e. I do get a JS Alert window at the end of the video.
    I am sure this is easy for folks who've been working with Captivate, but I just started using this morning so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
