Cluster 3 with Oracle 9

Hi Everyone,
This is for education and personal project use, I have a simple scenario, I have Oracle and few applications running on my shared DIsk Array of my 2 node cluster 3.0, the applications are happy with the primary node running, let's assume that node is down, is there a script or a way to get my app as well as Oracle to automatically restart on the node that is still up (secondary that will become primary node).
I understand there is an Oracle Clustering setup, but I just need a simple scenario or maybe a shell script to check which node is primary, checks for the processes, if processes are dead or killed just restart them.
Any help is welcomed.
Thanks

Its very possible to do - write your own scripts to do what ha-oracle does, only at a user level - you just have to think through all the conditions and tests when doing so..
Things to think about -
-disk / filesystem resources
-ip resources
-crontabs and other local dependencies on Oracle (not necessarily related)
If you throw a script together or check in cron for which side has a "stub" directory, then you can have your app try startup on node B versus node A, and if it doesn't work, fallthrough.
Remember you can even do this inside the cluster itself, just not using the Sun agent/dataservice - and now that SC 3.x has the "data service package template", it's much easier than before.

  • Solaris Cluster 3.2 with Oracle 11i R2 oracle agent installation question

    Hi all!
    I'm new in clustering and trying to build a two-node cluster in my lab. At the moment i've successfully installed cluster software and oracle on the nodes and now i'm trying to integrate cluster with oracle DB. Unfortunately, i couldn't find the documentation about this task. Can anyone give me an URL, where to look? By the way: i tried to find something here: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7360/fxjbo?a=view but found info only about Oracle RAC and nothing else, but i'm trying to build cluster without RAC - just only with solaris cluster.

    Hi,
    You might run into trouble with 11gR2 right now. You need to wait until the nxt patch for th eHA Oracle agent is avialble, or use 11gR1 at the moment.
    Sorry for the bad news.

  • How can we achive active/active cluster setup with Oracle

    Hi Experts,
    How can we achieve active/active database setup with oracle WITHOUT USING RAC.. As far as I know it's impossible (unless I'm wrong)..
    We are using Oracle 11.2.0.1 64bit on Windows 2008 server. We deployed Oracle FailSafe but that's more of an active/passive solution based on a windows cluster.
    The other solution we were thinking about is to use DataGuard and replication.. two servers.. the oracle instance running on one server generating logs, and the other server receive the logs and apply them to the physical standby db.. Still, this is not a real active/active setup.
    So, is it possible to run 2 servers in an active/active cluster and have the oracle database in an active/active setup or have the instance running on multiple nodes (at the same time)?
    Thanks

    Let me give you a brief explanation of what the situation is and you can be the judge..
    My client have four databases with the smallest one being 20GB and the biggest around the 35gb (SGA 750mb to 1.4gb (Tiny by DB standards) and probably on a normal day, you can run all four of them on a decent desktop).. The DBs are used to keep track of people information. Through out the year, the databases are almost sitting idle, and by idle I mean, the odd update here and there, the odd report..etc. No hard real processing of any sort. Two days of the year (end of year) we have all the operators consolidating records and what's not and they will be pounding away entering data and updating the tables - with hourly reports that goes to 3rd parties. The client expects a 99.99 up time and availability during those 2 days.
    Now, tell me, How can I justify using RAC and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing and what ever extra costs introduced by the complexity of the environment for the above scenario knowing that I don't have any real use for RAC for 363 days of the year; and we MIGHT need it for 2 days of the year? This is the dilemma we're facing.
    Thanks

  • Installation of CRM 2007 in Windows with oracle and cluster environment

    Dear Experts,
    We are about to start the installation of CRM 2007 (ABAP+JAVA) with
    Oracle 10g on Windows x64 in cluster environment. In the SAPINST dialog
    box under High availability option, I could see installation options like ASCS
    Instance, SCS Instance, First MSCS node, Database Instance, Additional
    MSCS Node, Enqueue Replication Server, Central Instance and Dialog
    Instance.
    I have gone through the installation guide. I have below queries
    regarding the same. Can you please clarify the same
    1) Our requirement is we want to have an ACTIVE-ACTIVE cluster setup
    with sap service running in Node A and Database running in Node B. Can
    we have this setup in ABAP+JAVA setup
    2) Also,in the SAPINST dialog box as said above except last two
    (Central and Dialoge instance) as per standard installation guide are
    to be installed in shared drives as per the requirement. But, central
    and dialog are said to be installed locally on any one node in MSCS or
    in separate server. As per my understanding Dialog instance will be
    used for load balancing which we do not require now. Hence I feel this
    is optional in our case. Where as Central Instance I am not able to
    understand why this option is for? Is it mandatory to be installed or optional. If
    so, when I installed it in one of the MSCS node the incase of failover
    how does it effect the system. As per my understanding ASCS and SCS
    comprise central instance.
    Please clarify and thanks in advance.

  • Does /sapmnt need in cluster file system(SAP ECC 6.0 with oracle RAC)

    We are going to be installing SAP with Oracle 10.2.0.4 RAC on Linux SuSE 10 and OCFS2. The Oracle RAC documentation states:
    You must store the following components in the cluster file system when you use RAC
    in the SAP environment:
    - Oracle Clusterware (CRS) Home
    - Oracle RDBMS Home
    - SAP Home (also /sapmnt)
    - Voting Disks
    - OCR
    - Database
    What I want to ask is if I really need put SAP Home(also /sapmnt) on cluster file system? I will build a two nodes oracel 10g RAC and I also have another two nodes to install SAP CI and DI. My orginial think is sapmnt is a NFS share, and mount to all four nodes(RAC node and CI/DI), and all oracle stuff was on OCFS2(only two rac nodes are OCFS), anybody can tell me if SAP Home(also /sapmnt) can be NFS mount not OCFS2, thanks.
    Best regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
    I don't think you need to keep /sapmnt in  ocfs2 . Reason any file system  need  to be in cluster is,in RAC environment, data stored in the cache of one Oracle instance to be accessed by any other instance by transferring it across the private network  and preserves data integrity and cache coherency by transmitting locking and other synchronization information across cluster nodes.
    AS this applies to redo files, datafiles and control files only ,  you should be fine with nfs mount of /sapmnt sharing across and not having ocfs2.

  • Oracle RAC + Clusterware and another Cluster with Clusterware for SAP

    Hi,
    I have some questions about implementation of Oracle RAC and Clusterware with SAP
    For exemple, an architecture with 4 servers ( 2 real and 2 vritual ).
    I would like to know if i can do this
    2 servers for the first cluster.
    First cluster is with Clusterware and Oracle RAC
    This is for all the SAP Oracle databases environment
    I think there is no problem here.
    Now, with 2 others servers il would like to make another cluster (with also clusterware ) for SAP Central services (SCS) and enque replication server (ERS)
    Because all architecture is for only one SAP environment with separate services.
    1 for Database (cluster 1)
    1 for Central services ( cluster 2, virtual machine )
    1 for Dialogue Instance (no cluster)
    To be clear, the second cluster is to make HA of central services SAP (SCS and ERS )
    My question 2 are :
    Is it a good job to do this ? or there is anything wrong ?
    Do i have to install antoher clusterware for this 2 servers or i have to make anything with the existing clusterware + oracle RAC ??
    Thank you very much for you help

    Hi Givre,
    have you checked: Providing High Availability for SAP Resources (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clusterware/pdf/sap-availability-on-rac-twp.pdf) available on otn.oracle.com/clusterware? Not being an SAP expert myself, I still think, this paper describes the configuration - at least partially - that you are trying to set up.
    Just an idea. Thanks,

  • Oracle Clustre, Oracle Cluster with RAC and Oracle 10g

    Is there a difference between Oracle Cluster and Oracle Cluster with RAC? Please explain. Do existing database codes run unmodified in Cluster or Cluster with RAC environment? What needs to be modified to make existing SQL codes RAC-aware. How to achieve 'all automatic' in case of failure and resubmission of Queries from failed instance to a running instance?
    In 10g environment, do we need to consider licensing of RAC as a separate product? What are additional features one derives in 10g that is not in Cluster +RAC?
    Your comments and pointers to comparison study and pictorial clarification will be very helpful.

    Oracle cluster like failsafe before or Veritas Cluster or other vendor's cluster is meant for HA (high availability) purpose. Which 2 nodes or more can see a shared disk with 1 active node. Whenever this active node failed through heartbeat other machine will know and will take the database over from there.
    Oracle RAC is more for HA and load balance. In Oracle RAC 2 or more nodes are accessing the database at the same time so it spread load across all these nodes.
    I believe Oracle 10g RAC still need seperate license for it. But you need to call Oracle or check the production document to verify it.
    Oracle 10g besides improvement in RAC. It's main improvement is on the build in management of the database itself. It can monitored and selftune itself to much furthur level then before and give DBA much more information to determine the cause of the problem as well. Plus improvement on lots of utility as well like RMAN , data pump etc... I don't want to get into too much detail on this you can check on their 10g new features for more detail view.
    Hope this help. :)

  • Do someone knows how to create a cluster with two nodes on oracle VM Ware

    dear members,
    can someone guide us through creating a cluster with two nodes on oracle VM. it will be nice if we can virtualiza RAC, atleast for education purposes.

  • Shared cluster with multiple oracle homes

    Hi All,
    I got to build a shared oracle RAC cluster with multiple oracle home installation ( 10g R1 , 10g R2 , and 11g R1 & 2).
    Of course the cluster ware will be version 11.2, but I wondered if there is any dependency on how I install oracle software? Do I have to start with 10g installation first? can I do 11g and then 10g?
    Is there anything I should be aware of ?

    I installed Oracle Application Server Enterprise which includes AS, Database, OID, Web Cache, SSO etc. and OSES on the same machine. Everything works except I think the windows version of OSES and AS need some patches so the crawler isn't working right. Everything does, however, install and run. I think Oracle develops everything in Linux (rumors of them now using Solaris) so on Linux everything should go smoother.

  • Non jdriver poor performance with oracle cluster

    Hi,
    we decided to implement batch input and went from Weblogic Jdriver to Oracle Thin 9.2.0.6.
    Our system are a Weblogic 6.1 cluster and an Oracle 8.1.7 cluster.
    Problem is .. with the new Oracle drivers our actions on the webapp takes twice as long as with Jdriver. We also tried OCI .. same problem. We switched to a single Oracle 8.1.7 database .. and it worked again with all thick or thin drivers.
    So .. new Oracle drivers with oracle cluster result in bad performance, but with Jdriver it works perfectly. Does sb. see some connection?
    I mean .. it works with Jdriver .. so it cant be the database, huh? But we really tried with every JDBC possibility! In fact .. we need batch input. Advise is very appreciated =].
    Thanx for help!!

    Thx for quick replys. I forget to mention .. we also tried 10g v10.1.0.3 from instantclient yesterday.
    I have to agree with Joe. It was really fast on the single machine database .. but we had same poor performance with cluster-db. It is frustrating. Specially if u consider that the Jdriver (which works perfectly in every combination) is 4 years old!
    Ok .. we got this scenario, with our appPage CustomerOverview (intensiv db-loading) (sorry.. no real profiling, time is taken with pc watch) (Oracle is 8.1.7 OPS patch level1) ...
    WL6.1_Cluster + Jdriver6.1 + DB_cluster => 4sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Jdriver6.1 + DB_single => 4sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora8.1.7 OCI + DB_single => 4sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora8.1.7 OCI + DB_cluster => 8-10sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora9.2.0.5/6 thin + DB_single => 4sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora9.2.0.5/6 thin + DB_cluster => 8sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora10.1.0.3 thin + DB_single => 2-4sec (awesome fast!!)
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora10.1.0.3 thin + DB_cluster => 6-8sec
    Customers rough us up, because they cannot mass order via batch input. Any suggestions how to solve this issue is very appreciated.
    TIA

    Cause:
    This problem is caused by incorrect data which should have been removed from the source system before the export.
    Solution:
    There are two possible workarounds:
          1. Modify DDL<dbs>.TPL (<dbs> = ADA, DB2, DB4, DB6, IND, MSS, ORA) BEFORE the R3load TSK files are generated;
                  search for the keyword "negdat:" and add "CLU4" and "VER_CLUSTR" to this line.
          2. Modify the TSK file (most probably SAPCLUST.TSK) BEFORE R3load import is (re-)started;
                  search for the lines starting with "D CLU4 I" and "D VER_CLUSTR I" and change the status (i.e. "err" or "xeq") to "ign" or remove the lines.

    files (petstoreadmin.ear & petstore.ear) deployed successfully
    but not the supplier.ear and opc.ear. I got the following messages from deploying
    supplier.ear:

  • Petstore 1.3 with Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris 9 - deployment error

    Hello,
    I'm trying to get Petstore 1.3 shipped with WebLogic Server 7.0 to work with Oracle
    8.1.7 on Solaris 9 with a third-party (Oracle) jdbc driver (classes12). I did
    the following:
    1) created a new connection pool with the correct Oracle database URL and driver
    class name (oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver), also user/password properties for
    the Oracle db, and the WL server selected in targets;
    2) created a database schema for Oracle based on the data in Pointbase and the
    weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar file as well as petstore_catalog_utf8.sql;
    3) created a new tx datasource pointing to the Oracle conn pool;
    4) modified the catalog component's ejb-jar.xml file's env-entry to contain CatalogOracleDAOImpl;
    5) put weblogic.jar in the classpath;
    6) used Java's dbping utility to check connection to the database via the Oracle
    driver (works fine--no network adapter error or anything related).
    I then rebuilt the ear files (build is successful), but when deploying get the
    following error:
    "Cannot deploy EJB AccountEJB from customerEjb.jar. Cannot find datasource for
    JNDI datasource-petstorePool" and says to make sure the JNDI name and deployment
    descriptors are correct (I checked the customer component's deployment descriptors
    against the tx datasources' JNDI and they match).
    What step(s) am I missing? Any suggestions on what else I need to modify would
    be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Beverly Claire

    Beverly:
    If you have 8.1, then you should be able to simply and easily create a
    connection pool to petstore via the console.
    The current error you encountering: "petstorePool does not exist" is
    because either:
    petstorePool is not defined or there was a failure when the pool was first
    created trying to connect to the DBMS.
    The full errror should be in the log file prior to the TXDatasource error.
    Cheers

    Hello Rob,
    Thanks for your reply. Yes, the tx datasource's JNDI name isdatasource-petstorePool.
    The server log says that "petstorePool does not exist".
    My conn pool contents:
    Name: petstorePool
    URL: jdbc:oracle:thin:@<replaced with db address>:<replaced with dbport>:<replaced
    with db SID>
    Driver Class Name: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    Properties: user=<replaced with username*>
    password=<replaced with password*>
    *same username and password used to set up the Petstore tables in Oracledb.

    JNDI: datasource-petstorePool
    Pool Name: petstorePool
    No, actually we're not evaluating in the sense of just-trying-things-out.One
    of our clients is considering an application server. They're relying on usfor
    help in choosing which would be best. As of now, we are comparing BEA WLServer
    7 and 8.1, Sun ONE Application Server 7 EE, Oracle 9i Application Server,and
    Fujitsu Interstage v5 Application Server. For cluster testing andperformance
    comparison purposes, we'd like to use the same J2EE Application across allservers,
    and the obvious choice is Petstore 1.3. One aim is to smoothly connect toan Oracle
    database. The other app servers provide setup scripts and databaseschemas for
    Petstore-with-Oracle, so db conn and deployment are not a problem at all.As for
    WL, we've been trying to get Petstore (both the version downloaded fromSun's
    Java Blueprints and the version that shipped with WL 7) to work withOracle, but
    no luck so far. It's getting a bit frustrating, given the ease with whichthings
    worked out with the other app servers.
    Yes, I've tried out Avitek MedRec for WL 8.1, and this time BEA has kindlymade
    provisions for Oracle db, so connection to Oracle is not a problem. I'mhoping
    BEA will come around to doing the same thing for Petstore, although I'mguessing
    that won't be in the near future.
    Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bevery Claire
