    Hi All,
Please let me know Sun Cluster 3.2 support Solaris 8.
    Regards,
    R. Rajesh Kannan.

Solaris Operating System (OS) Sun Cluster 3.2 software and Quorum Server software requires the following minimum versions of the Solaris OS:
    Solaris 9 Solaris 9 9/05 SPARC only.
    Solaris 10 Solaris 10 11/06.

can we run cluster 2.2 with solaris 8 ???
    thanks

    Hi,
The Sun Cluster 2.2 4/00 Release is having support for Solaris 8.
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgrade from Solaris 8 SPARC with Sun cluster 3.1u3 to Solaris 10 SPARC

    Dear All,
We are planning an upgrade of the OS from Solaris 8 SPARC to Solaris 10 SPARC on a two-node active-standby clustered system.
The current major software we have on the Solaris 8 system are:
    1: Sun Cluster 3.1u3
    2: Oracle 9i 9.2.0.8
3: Veritas File System Vxfs v4.0
    4: Sun Solaris 8 2/04 SPARC
Any pointers as to what sequence and how the upgrade should be done?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ray

yes I know it can be quite complicated and complex, but Sun provided us with a detailed documentation, at least in our case Solaris 9 to 10 it was very helpful.

  • Sun cluster 3.1 on Solaris 10 update1

    Hi All,
    Good day !!!
I am trying to build Sun Cluster 3.1 on Sun Solaris 10 update1 operating system.
I am using sun V240 servers. If i plumb bge1 and bge2 the second
and third interface and reboot the server system is not comming up.
it promts error saying "init" failed and it stops responding.
Also if i create /etc/defaultrouter file and put gateway system is not comming up.
Kindly let me know weather solaris 10 update1 is support for cluster or not.
    Thanks,
    nagaraju

Hi, I am not sure what your network setup looks like but I assume that you have configured your first port as the public network. You do not need to touch any other interface for the cluster setup manually. During the installation procedure you just give the names of your private network ports to the scinstall procedure. This will do all the setup for you.
The V240 is supported for SC3.1.

  • Creating a new Essbase Cluster on the same Solaris server

    Hi All,
    I have two servers:
    Server1: Foundation services, APS, EAS
Server2: Essbase Server, Essbase Studio Server on epminstance_1
Due to business requirements I need to "rename" the Essbase cluster from "EssbaseCluster-1" to something else.. I know this is not possible and from the below document I understand that I need to create a new instance on Server2 and configure Essbase and Essbase Studio on it.
"How to Rename Essbase Cluster (Doc ID 1434439.1)"
Goal: In EPM System Release 11.1.2.x, is it possible to rename the Essbase instance and cluster names after they are configured?
Solution: No, it is not possible to rename the Essbase cluster or instance names after the initial configuration. If you need to change the instance and cluster names, create new instance and cluster. Export the applications from the old cluster and import them into the new cluster.
My doubt lies with configuring the 2nd Essbase server as I am not clear how a single environment with two Essbase standalone instances on the same physical Solaris server, with each belonging to their own cluster will behave. I know that they are independent clusters and the concept of active/passive and active/active clusters are for Essbase instances part of the same cluster.
I plan to create a new epminstance_2 instance on Server2 and configure the 2nd Essbase server as follows: give it a *new* cluster name and not assign it to the existing Essbase cluster and deploy it in standalone mode.
    1. Now I plan to use the 1st instance only as a backup option.. In an event where for some reason the new instance were to fail I would start up the services on the older essbase instance. Is this possible without any additional configuration or changes to OPMN?
    2. Alternatively, say we want to remove the older instance. Kindly suggest ways in which I can safely "remove" the older cluster (other than uninstalling). Also when users log in using SmartView, they would see the older and new cluster.. Is there anyways I can get rid of the older cluster without having to uninstall everthing on Server2 and start fresh?
    Thanks!

    Thanks John!
I have a doubt which I hope you can throw some light now..
I created a new instance and configured Essbase Server and Studio server on it. So now I have two EPM instances on the same physical server both having Essbase server and Essbase studio server - both Essbase servers belong to different Essbase clusters. Now from the EPM docs I do not find any mention that we can or cannot have multiple instances of Essbase Studio on the same server. Kindly correct me if I am wrong..
In the deployment report I see two identical entries for the Essbase Studio server in the older epminstance but I do not see Essbase Studio of the 2nd Instance.
    epmsystem_1 (Server2)
                    Essbase Studio Server - 9080
    epmsystem_1 (Server2)
                    Essbase Studio Server - 9080
After I start up the 2nd Essbase Studio server I tried connecting to it from Essbase Studio Console and got the error "Read permission denied to object folder:\'system'."
Similarly when I run start_BPMS_bpms1_CommandLineClient.sh and issue the reinit command I get the same error.
So I stopped the 2nd Essbase Studio server on epmsystem_2 and started up the first Essbase Studio server on epmsystem_1. I was able to connect to it fine from Essbase Studio console and reinit worked too.. I ran a drill through report which worked fine.
-> So is it that we can have only one instance of Essbase Studio on a single server?
Also say I want to use the Essbase Studio on the 2nd instance.. Could I re-configure just Essbase server on epmsystem_1 and re-configure Essbase server and Essbase studio server on epmsystem_2 ?
    Thanks,
    Kent

  • Strange Cluster Startup Timing Issues (Solaris 2.7)

When we start up our admin server for our WLS 6.0sp1 cluster (running on Solaris
2.7), then try to start all the managed servers approximately simultaneously,
the managed servers come up apparently normally (no errors in the logs) but no
              EJBs ever deploy.
If we follow the same steps, but wait until each server is all the way up before
starting the next, everything is fine.
Has anyone else run into this?
              -daniel

Hmm, I wonder if they "cannot" or "will not" supply you the patch...
Oh well, hopefully this won't get me in trouble! Here's the patch, stick it in your weblogic /lib
directory or in CLASSPATH, and add the following to your startup command:
              -Dweblogic.rmi.queuesize=n
And if you are having problems, don't tell BEA who gave this to you! :-)

  • Solaris Cluster 3.3u2 configuration - Solaris Ldoms

    Hi,
I've 2 sun blade T5-1B and I create 4 ldoms on each blade, also I install the Solaris Cluster 3.3u2 and its all done successfully, I did several time resource fail-over with nodes, everything seems working perfect for me as normal behavior of expected but I've an issue to test public transport testing, hereby I remove the both physical public transport cable form node1 but its didn't fail-over on node2, little confuse as its should be fail-over to node2, but not. Please let me know if where missed something to get proper fail-over?
    Please advise.
    regards,

    Hi M10vir,
this means you are running SC3.3u2 in guest domains and pulling the cables from the primary domain?
If so, this would mean that the IPMP group used in the guest domain need to get a link down that Solaris Cluster do a failover when logical hostname resources are configured. How are the network interfaces configured and what is the status of the network interfaces when the cables are removed? Furthermore does the domains recognize that the network is gone and the relevant messages are in /var/adm/messages?
    Thanks,
      Juergen

  • Multimedia Cluster / software distro for Solaris 9

    Hello all!
I was wondering if there is any sort multimedia cluster available for Sun OS 5.9. A software distribution having some sort of multimedia applications for video, audio and stuff.... Otherwise one gets bored sometime on dry solaris. Had heard previously about Sun MediaCentre...What about it? Is it still available from SUN?? Are there any other third party clusters available ???

There's plenty of stuff out there you can get for multimedia: xmms, xine; there are even Windows media player and Real Player for Solaris floating around...can't get them from the official sites anymore, I don't think...

  • Cluster session replica on solaris

              Hi,
I had made a cluster on two solarises, I want the servlet session can be replicated,
But if I set weblogic.httpd.session.persistentStoreType=replicated , sometimes the browser will
display message "inconsistent cookie, primary key != me " when I access a session servlet,
and the call is failed. In other ways, session replica is O.K. If I disable this property, nothing
occured, but session can't be replicated. who can explain it ? thanks for your help.
              Best regards,
              Zhanlu

              You might check:
              1. two clustering machines must have the same cluster name configured
              (weblogic.cluster.name) and port #
              2. using MulticastTest utility to check the communication is ok
              between clustering nodes
              3. there should have add server name/ip to cluster view something
right before WL startup on each clustered nodes
              4. ping multicast adddress to see 2 nodes ip returned
              Hope this works. Brian

  • Setup Cluster using Solaris Container data service

We have a two-node cluster that we would like to use to create either a zone cluster or use the Solaris Container data service that would create a scalable (or multiple master) data service of two zones, one on each node. We have an app running in the zone, CiscoWorks, that has a local database of jobs that are scheduled to run to configure Cisco switches. I was curious how we setup the storage. If each zone is running on local disks, how do the zones stay in sync and the database updated with job information? Would I setup a device group of the disks where the zones will reside on each node? Can I use SAN as the local disk so the zones can be replicated to a Disaster Recovery location?
    Thanks for any help,
    Chuck

    Chuck,
Sadly, I think I'm going to make your implementation decisions a lot more complicated because there are three ways you can use zones within Solaris Cluster.
    1. Create a failover zone using the HA Solaris Container Data Service. Here the zone root moves between the cluster nodes as the zone fails over.
    2. Create static zones between with resource groups can migrate. Each zone root is local the the physical node. However, the configuration of the zones can be subtly different.
    3. Create a virtual cluster using static zones within which resource groups can migrate. Each zone root is local the the physical node. However, the configuration of the zones are forced to be the same.
Note also, that a ZFS zpool can only be mounted on one node or zone at anyone time, although it can be mounted read/write in one zone and read-only in other zones on the same node (IIRC).
I would be inclined to put your database into an HA configuration, i.e. one that runs on one node at any one time. I would then constrain that in a zone cluster that is bound to a project with restricted resources, i.e. CPUs and memory. Any other tiers of the application, could then be placed either in the global zone (main cluster) or placed in another zone cluster and equally constrained.
I don't know if that's any help. I can recommend a good book on the subject <shameless plug "Oracle Solaris Cluster Essentials"/>. The example chapters should be of help.
    Regards,
    Tim

  • Failed to install SUN cluster 3.1 8/05 on solaris 10(x64)

I install the cluster 3.1 u4 on two nodes(node1 and node2) by using "scinstall".( The two nodes have the same system) After cluster installed, i reboot node2 . Before rebooting, I have done the following operation.
    # echo "etc/cluster/nodeid" >> /boot/solaris/filelist.ramdisk
    # echo "etc/cluster/ccr/did_instances" >> /boot/solaris/filelist.ramdisk
    # bootadm update-archive
updating /platform/i86pc/boot_archive...this may take a minute
    # init 6
But node2 crashed, and failed to reboot.
I could only see several characters "GRUB" in the screen. The system even doesnot present the grub menu.

The only thing I can find that is vaguely similar is where users have installed -19 of 118855 but not updated all the other patches on the system. I would try booting from the failsafe mode, if you can get to this. Then update all the patches.
If you can't I guess you are going to have to either boot from DVD and fix or just rebuild.

  • Available design options for a cluster hosting many different virtualized Solaris versions

Good day, everyone, and thanks first off for reading my question.
So, I have been Googling and reading oracle documentation for the past couple weeks, and I am just getting more and more confused as to what I need to do, and I would really appreciate some guidance or at least pointing me to what specifically I should be reading.
Situation:  We have several 10+ year old Solaris systems, running either Solaris 8 or 10, that hold several mission-critical systems for business operation.  These systems are rapidly dying and need to be migrated to a newer system.  They are old systems that require very few resources to run, but are critical nonetheless.
So far: We have purchased four T5220 SPARC servers, with 8 cores and 64GB of RAM each.  They have arrived, and I am ready to start building the "solution".
The intent: To be able to take system images of these old systems, virtualize them, and have them run on some type of high-availability cluster solution that will keep them operational, even if one (or possibly two) of the four physical T5220 servers failed.
Question: How should I do this?  It seemed like a simple idea to start out with.  My initial thoughts were to install Solaris 11 on each of the four servers, cluster them together with Oracle cluster, run a Hypervisor of some type as a cluster application (Oracle VM?) on top of the physical cluster, and then drop all of the virtual machines on top of that hypervisor.  That way, the virtual machines should run uninterrupted if a cluster node fails.
Is this feasible? Possible?  What is the right terminology here so I know what to be researching?  I didn't think this would be so hard, but I can't even find a good white paper/document to read - they all seem to be focused to something other than what I'm looking for.
Any suggestions for how I should accomplish this or where I can go to find the information I'm looking for?
Thanks in advance for all your help.
    -Lyxix

Thanks Walter, that did help a lot!  Looking into it a bit more, this is what it looks like I need to learn about and implement. How does this sound for an extremely broad overview:
Step 1) Cluster the 4 physical servers together (figure out what type of cluster I need, and use Oracle Cluster 4.x on top of Solaris 11.1 or maybe 11.2 beta?)
Step 2) Create Zoneclusters, probably one for each type of OS I need to run (a Sol 8 ZC, and a Sol 10 ZC, and then possibly a Sol 11 ZC to try to migrate the systems up if possible...)
Step 3) Create Logical Domains (LDOMs) for each of my old systems, and put them on the zone clusters, using Oracle VM Server.
In this setup, if a node fails, the virtual system will go down, but I should be able to configure it to start up another node automatically with minimal downtime for the virtual systems?
I realize "I should be" is reaching, since I have virtually zilch cluster experience and limited Solaris experience, but let's rephrase that to "it's possible to". I realize I have a lot of work ahead of me, but thankfully I have no strict time limits to get this implemented and can work one step at a time.
Thanks so much for your help - does this all sound correct so far?

  • Solaris 8 on a v440 where do I get drivers for older solaris version?

I have a db cluster of v880s on Solaris 8. I need to temporarily move the database to a v440. I created a flash archive on the v880s and, of course, it didn't work after installing (got tod error and couldn't boot). I know this is because it is too old a version of Solaris. My question is, can I apply the new drivers to the v880 and then create a new flar image? If so, where do I get the drivers? Also, is there any way to apply the drivers to a system that has been imaged already with a flar from a v880? Can I apply them as a post-install script under jumpstart? Can I somehow boot from cdrom and then apply them? Any information would be greatly appreciated. This is a fairly urgent matter as we have a firm date with movers that can't be changed.

Hmm, the V440 is a quite old box as well, so it should work with Solaris 8 7/03 or older.
There are three alternatives as far as i can see:
1: What version of Solaris 8 are you using? If you are using 7/03 or later it should be sufficent if you booted the V440 into singleuser mode (from cd/dvd or network) mounted the disk and ran devfsadm -R on it.
2: If the Solaris 8 would be older than 7/03, you should, as far as i can see, be able to install the flar archives from your jumpstart, and then boot of a Solaris 8 7/03 (or later) cd and run an upgrade from it.
3: Apply the following patches, either to your 880 before you create the image, or to your V440 after installing the flar (you would have to apply the patches from single-user as mentioned inn step 1, it should be possible to add the patches from a jumpstart image using the patchadd -R command).
