Cluster with 2 linux machines and ODI console - some questions
Hello,
I need to setup domain with ODI plugins (console etc.) on clustered environment. OS is Oracle Linux 6.3.
I've read this documentation:http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/adminguide/createdomain.html#CreateClusteredDomain and I have some additional questions:
- I know I need to install weblogic on 2 machines. Should I install Oracle Data Integrator on 2 machines as well?
- Creating domains, starting domains etc. I assume I should do this on first server? (for example, via ssh). Or I will need to login via cluster ip addres?
- MultiCast Address: this is not entirely clear for me. Should this ip aldready exist in my environment - should I configure my network interfaces somehow? Or, I simply need to provide any ip from 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255 and this will work?

What's the simples way to join this second physical machine and make all of this working as clustered environment? Is there any step by step instruction/tutorial etc describing ALL steps should be done?

Problem in setup weblogic9.2 MP2 cluster with 2 linux (RHEL4) servers

We are trying to setup a clusters of weblogic 9.2 servers on 2 linux machine.
However we encounter problems when testing load balancing and session replication on the 2 servers.
We use the configure wizard to configure an adminserver, managed1 server on the 1st linux machine, and managed2 server on the 2nd linux machine. No machine or unix machine is set.
We are able to start both adminserver, managed1 and managed2 servers.
And we are able to deploy application to the cluster and run it successfully.
When we use an apache proxy or the weblogic proxy plugin as an load balancer, we are not able to use the round-robin (load-balancing) features and session replication between the two servers.
However, when we setup all the servers(adminserver,managed1,managed2) on 1 linux machine, we are enable to use the apahce/weblogic proxy plugin to do round-robin load-balancing and session replication.
We suspect it is related to multicast.
When we ping the multicast address setup on each linux machines, we can only see response from the localhost machine.
When we use util.MulticastTest on linux1 machine, it works properly with only response from linux1 machine.
When we use the same command util.MulticastTest on linux2 machine, it give the following exception:
java.net.SocketException: Not a multicast address
at java.net.MulticastSocket.joinGroup(MulticastSocket.java:273)
at utils.MulticastTest.<init>(MulticastTest.java:82)
at utils.MulticastTest.main(MulticastTest.java:233)

Both linux servers have no firewall with iptables service stopped.
Please give us some advices on it.

That's probably a better way to go anyway, but I don't know if it would fix your problem. This is described at [http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs90/jndi/jndi.html]

Ho do I know if an ORACLE autmatically starts up with the linux machine?
three of the machines are RAC database and there is one single node database. How do I know if the DB will automatically startup with Linux machine? and if does not automatically start how can I modify the DB's so that they will automatically start with the Linux Machine?

Try the following:
ps -ef | grep ohas
In general if you use ASM you use Oracle Restart.
Here is the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/restart001.htm#ADMIN12709]documentation.
In fact it's not that complicated and if you use GUI tools (don't hate) such as asmca, netca, dbca all the components are automatically registered with Oracle Restart. If you don't then you can always use srvctl utility (same as in case of RAC) to start, stop, register, remove, check configuration of your services e.g. listener, asm, instances and much more. Actually there're a lot of similarities to Oracle Clusterware, but of cause it's just a single instance with all the simplifications that follow.
It's just very unpractical for me to type a page of text that would pretty much copy readily available documentation.

I want to set up the Time Machine and I would love to use the Time

A complication that I need to resolve is the fact that I am using Vmware
Fusion to be able to use Windows on my Mac. Now it seems that Time
Machine is not backing up my files
on that virtual Windows without additional configuration and my question
is whether you can advise me here or whether this is only a matter for
the Fusion virtual machine.If you want to use Time Capsule you can.. you simply bridge it and plug it into the existing router.. wireless can be either turned off or used to reinforce the existing wireless.. eg use 5ghz in the TC which is much faster than your 2.4ghz.
You can also use a NAS.. many brands available but the top brands are synology, qnap and netgear readynas series. These will all do Time Machine backups although how well always depends on Apple sticking to a standard. There are cheaper ones.. I bought a single disk zyxel which was rebadged and sold through my local supermarket. It actually works very well for TM at least on Snow Leopard. Major changes were made in Lion and again ML so do not instantly think it will work on later versions. I haven't tried it yet with those versions.
Any external drive can be plugged into the mac. Use the one with the fastest connection or cheapest price according to your budget. USB2 drives are cheap and plentiful. But no where near as fast as USB3 or FW800. So just pick whichever suits the ports on your Mac. Interesting Apple finally moved to USB3 on their latest computers.
TM should exclude the VM partition file.. it is useless backing it up from Mac OS side.. and will slow TM as it needs to backup that partition everyday for no purpose.. TM cannot see the files inside it to backup just the changes.
You need to backup windows from windows. Use MSbackup to external drive.. if you have pro or ultimate versions you can backup to network drive. But MSbackup is a dog.. at least until the latest version it cannot restore the partition without first loading windows. There are about a zillion backup software versions for windows.. look up reviews and buy one which works for you. I use a free one Macrium Reflect which does full disk backups and is easy to restore.. to do incremental backups though you have to pay for it. -

Networking with a Linux machine
Thoug I can easily access the sites in my sites folder from my iBook using the "../~myname" approach, this doesn't seem to work if I try to access my iMac from the Ubuntu Linux machine. Typing in the network address of my iMac into Firefox, accesses the Apache page and Linux recognises the iMac's name, but adding "/~myname" gives an error message about not recognising the server. Since the Apache seerver is already there, what do I need to do?

"empty file" error with CS5, linux server and mavericks
hello to the community,
i'm the owner of a small online marketing agency.
we have been using different macs here since 10.6. until mavericks with adobe CS 5 and a linux server for years.
today i got a new MBP retina with mavericks and since now i have the following problem:
- when i try to open a photoshop file on the server i get a "file is empty" error, when i open an illustrator file on the server illustrator crashes und when i open a pdf on the server with acrobat pro there comes a message that the file is corrupt. with acrobat reader i can open it.
- i can open the exact files with all apps when they are on a local storage not an the server
- i can open all files on the server with another mac with os x 10.6.
so there must be a problem with the combination cs5-files, server and os 10.9. it's weird because with my old MBP i with also using mavericks and there was no problem.
can anyone help me? it's really a problem!i found a workaround that seems to work!
instead of connecting to the server with "smb" i connect with "cifs". so i force mavericks to connect using the old smb 1 instead of the buggy smb 2. -

Servers running on WLS 5.1 and another 2 servers running on WLS 8.1?
Reason of thinking so, is that want to have the most failsafe configration
as possible during our upgrade.
I searched the BEA docs, but didn't find anything.

It is not possible to have clusters with different
WLS versions especially between 5.1 & 8.1

Sun Cluster with Netapps - iSCSI quorum and network port
I am proposing Sun cluster with Netapps 3020C.
May I know
1) OS is Solaris 9. The SUN OSP says that we need to obtain an iSCSI license from Netapps. Is this the iSCSI initiator software for Solaris 9 to talk to the NAS quorum? Or do I need to purchased a 3rd party iSCSI initiator ?
2) We provide 2 network ports for the Netapps private NAS LAN. Is it a must to cater another dedicated network port for the iSCSI communication with the quorum?
3) If we need purchase a 3rd party iSCSI initiator, where can we get this? I have checked Qlogic and Cisco, they are both not suitable for my solution.

I read the "Requirements When Configuring NAS Devices as Quorum Devices"
section as this is the license for the iSCSI inititator software.
So you need to enable iSCSI on the netapps box and need to install a package from netapps (NTAPclnas) on the cluster nodes.

RDP with 802.1x, machine and user auth and dynamic VLAN
Hi,
we have 802.1x implemented with machine and user auth. We also use dynamic VLAN assignment. Our client is AnyConnect 3.1. Operating system is Windows 7. With Windows XP, it works just fine.
When we try to connect to the 802.1x auth desktop with RDP (desktop is machine authenticated, no user is logged in), we are able to authenticate but as soon as VLAN and IP address changes according to user authentication profile, RDP session is terminated. It is not just disconnected but remote user is logged out and AnyConnect reverts 802.1x session back to machine VLAN. We cannot login with RDP and just loop between machine-user-machine authentication.
With this behavior the TermDD message (ID 56) can be seen in system log. Following the response

If we do not change VLAN from machine to user, it works just fine.

unfortunately not.
I have gone through extensive troubleshooting from Microsoft and Cisco sides twice and the result is:
1) AnyConnect performs EAPol logoff when it detects RDP session termination. So it goes from user to machine authentication
2) Windows 7 performs RDP session termination when IP address changes due to the change of VLAN (from machine VLAN to user VLAN)
Cisco claims that AnyConnect behavior is correct and Microsoft claims that they do not want to change this behavior (reset of RDP session).
I can imagine that Cisco can detect whether RDP session was terminated due to the IP address change or not and do not revert back to machine authentication in such a case.
In fact there was nobody at Cisco that was willing to listen to me or accept this like something that needs a fix. The only thing you can do is to enable "Extend connection beyond logoff". AnyConnect does not send EAPol logoff if it detects RDP session termination and you can establish another RDP session which does not fail and you stay connected with RDP.

Built in speech software and iCal compatibility; Some questions
This may be entirely an old concept that most people are tired of hearing, or perhaps it's something that has never come up, but it's been on my mind none the less.
Recently I've wondered if I can use iCal in sync with the built in 'speech' that the MacBook can produce when asked (like when I highlight text and ask it to speak it to me), to 'read' events to me as they come up. Say 15 minutes before I'm supposed to leave my house, an event pops up, but I'm not looking 'at' the screen directly. Is it possible to set iCal to directly begin speaking "Event # / Date / Reason" or *even better* could I fiddle with the proper files, and get it to read just what's in the event?
Getting it to read what is in the event only, would be ideal. Let's face it, it'd be pretty nifty for my computer, 15 minutes before I have to leave, to say "Scott, it is fifteen minutes before you are supposed to leave for work."
I've also been toying with some software on my PC (my friend rigged the software mostly, so I don't have any thing that I can share really) that does something very similar, he's actually working on getting it to recognize my own speech, and building in a response program. (e.g. "Scott, it is fifteen minutes before you are supposed to leave for work." 'What did I need for today?' "Regional managers are coming in, don't forget to bring X, X an X") Ideally, if I can find one, I'd be elated to have a 'calendar' that would be mostly voice interactive.
I realize that if I can work it that way, I'll have to set up all the responses myself, that's not an issue, I have no problem planning in advance, it's actually forgetting that I've planned it in the first place :(!Djembe wrote:
