Clusterware wiht cachegroups
Hi Gurus,
I wanna use clusterware in an active standby pair with cachegroups (awt and read only), but when I try to do ttCWAdmin -create the command fails because the user used is not the cache admin.
I dont want use the same user to do the creation of the active stanby and admin the cachegroups (separation-of-duties) and the admin cache has not admin privilege.
Regards
The requirements when running ttCWAdmin to rollout an A/S pair that includes cache groups are:
The ttCWAdmin -create command prompts for the following:
Prompts for the name of a TimesTen user with ADMIN privileges. If cache groups are being managed by Oracle Clusterware, enter the TimesTen cache manager user name.
Prompts for the TimesTen password for the previously entered user name.
If cache groups are being used, prompts for the password for the Oracle user that has the same name as the cache manager user. This password is provided in the OraclePWD connection attribute when the cache manager user connects.
Prompts for a random string used to encrypt the above information.
So if you are using cache groups then whatever user you have created and used as the 'cache manager' must also have ADMIN privilege. If this is not acceptable then I'm afraid you cannot use Clusterware to manage the A/S pair. You can of course raise an Enhancement Request asking to have this requirement lifted.
Regards,
Chris

Clusterware install on HPUX 11.23 on 2node cluster (HP Integrity itanium)
We are trying to configure a two node cluster to host Oracle 10gR2 RAC environment. The servers are HP-Integrity BL-86C servers, each with two Itanium CPUs and HP-UX 11.23. There are two four network ports available, which are connected to a Gigabit virtual connect. One of them is used as the public interface for RAC and second one is used as private interconnect for RAC.
We have EVA3000 SAN. We configured two 1GB LUNs and presented both of them to both the servers. These will be used as shared raw storage for Oracle Clusterware files. On each server, we can see these raw devices under /dev/rdsk/c*. We assigned root as owner for first LUN (which is used for Cluster registry), and oracle as owner on the second LUN (which is used for voting disk). We did this on both the servers.
We set up the ssh user equivalency on both machines so that they can talk to each other using SSH and oracle userid without prompting for password, as per oracle install manual.
When we start the install, it apparently finishes successfully on the first server, but it fails on the second one saying ‘WARNING: clssnmDiskPMT: long disk latency (25031 ms) to voting disk (2//dev/rdsk/c1t1d0)”
Oracle is pointing to this error, and saying that is the disk issue. We are stuck at this point where we need to figure out if the way we are trying to use the sharing of LUNs is correct? Can we present a LUN as raw disk to two servers at the same time as shared raw device?
Also, how can we test the disk latency? I suspect that it is probably not a disk issue but shared storage issue, where first server holds the raw disks and second one can not see them.
Our unix adminstrator talked to the HP EVA specialist to figure out the 'disk latency' problem, and HP doesn't think it is an issue. But if there is anything Oracle wants to check from o/s or hw side, I can check it.
My question is, if it is voting disk issue, why does first node successfully starts all the daemons and formats Crs and voting disks successfully? We can see that in the root.sh output , and in the ocssd.log file on the first node
Is there any utility from oracle, which can check if the shared disks for ocr and vote disks are configured/accessible all right? The runcluvfy.sh which was distributed with the software DVD is buggy and doesn’t work. Oracle tech support was not able to provide any suggestions to make it work.
Please let me know if there is anybody who has done similar install successfully who can shed some light on this problem.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Oracle 10g to 11g Upgrade - Oracle Clusterware problem
Oracle10g RAC (2 Nodes) RHEL 4 64bit
Hi All,
I have began the procedure for upgrading Oracle Clusterware to 11g. However, during the install OUI was giving me certain error messages like it couldn't transfer the OUI installlogs to node 2. Well, I kept pushing through the install and after I ran the last rootupgrade script on node 2 it gave me the following error:

Setting CRS configuration values in /crs/home/install/paramfile.crs
So I ignored the error for the time being and after that I checked the status of crs and it gave me the following:

So i tried to bring it back up by doing a crs_stop -all and crs_start -all and it gave me the following error:

I am thinking that all of this is caused by the various issues I had with the install. If I am incorrect, then please let me know. If it is true, I would like to know if there are any 11g docs on how to clean up a failed clusterware upgrade. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on any of the situations I am having.
Thank youHi Chandra,
Did CVU report any problems before the upgrade? No, there were no errors reported by CVU before the upgrade.
I don't there is note out there for cleaning 11g CRS
install...and I think can very use the 10g CRS note -
239998.1.Yeah I might have to go that way.
I have both the 11g CRS install and upgrade from 10g
to 11CRS at
http://chandradba.blogspot.com/2007/08/oracle-11g-rac-
install-on-red-hat-50.html
and
http://chandradba.blogspot.com/2008/02/oracle-10g-crs-
upgrade-to-11g-crs.html
see if it helps.Yup, your guide is very simple, clear and error proof :) That's how mine when pretty much except right around 75% I started getting these strange errors of files not being able to be transferred to node 2. Anyways, it shouldn't be a problem as none of those errors were configuration related...or else I would have a messed up cluster.
Well, I actually rebooted both machines and now the whole CRS stack is up!! So I guess I am ok. We'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks for your help Chandra...I always appreciate it. -

Edited by: Eren GULERYUZ on 06.Ara.2010 05:57Hi,
it looks like, that your "shared device" you are using is not really shared.
The second node does "create an ASM diskgroup" and create OCR and Voting disks. If this indeed would be a shared device, he should have recognized, that your disk is shared.
So as a result your VMware configuration must be wrong, and the disk you presented as shared disk is not really shared.
Which VMWare version did you use? It will not work correctly with the workstation or player edition, since shared disks are only really working with the server version.
If you indeed using the server, could you paste your vm configurations?
Furthermore I recommend using Virtual Box. There is a nice how-to:

Problems wiht b/b connection
taken from my router log file and pasted below this sort of thing happens several times a day and every time i loose connection it reports that its waiting for the line to become free, i take it that just like the last time this happened it measn the line card in the exchange i'm connected to has too many customers for the avilable ports, this in turn is locking my line profile down from 7.5 meg (which it maintained for most of the last 2 years) to below 4meg and due to the constant stream of problems which are either cabinet or exchange based (i tried the quiet line test and theres nothing there) i've had my internal wireing tested and still am having all thease problems which i dont understand, the only thing connected to the test socket is the adsl filter which is in turn connected ot the phone and the router, i tried useing 2 different routers with the same results last time this happened, and now i'm stuck wiht a broken connection which the call center in india are worse than useless at sorting out (i tried them 3 times in the last week, there "best solution" was " unplug your routerfor 20 minutes and then swithc it back on" it achieved the square root of sweet FA and its the answer they came up with all 3 times like its a new script option there trying out.

i'd be interested ot here what a mod has to say on the matter, as i already am pretty sure of whats causing the problem (the exchange having too many lines plugged into the card, which is exactly what happened a year ago for 2 weeks) because the exchange is fitted wiht cards that have *10 extra line slots* than there capable of connecting at the same time (because they were cheaper for bt to bulk buy and install than the ones that line matched the DSLAM's the exchange is fitted with) but hey that shouldnt be causeing me problemsand yet again and no doubt several more times during the night i will get this problem as well as a lot more again tomorrow untill bt stop putting too many lines onto the cards, or upgrade the DSLAM's so there able to cope with the line's (probably not going to happen)

10G RAC ON 11.2 CLUSTERWARE
Hi,
i m trying to make ORACLE RAC 10gr2 on two nodes with openfiler , with ocfs and asm.but i didn't have clusterware 10.2 software to install because oracle has removed software to download, that's why i install clusterware 11.2 . after installation clusterware 11.2 i check status and output is below on both nodes.
[oracle@linux2 bin]$ ./crsctl check crs
CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online
CRS-4537: Cluster Ready Services is online
CRS-4529: Cluster Synchronization Services is online
CRS-4533: Event Manager is online
but when i try to install oracle 10gr2 software and when i reach to configure asm disks it says "in order to use AUTOMATIC STORAGE MANAGEMENT the
oracle cluster synchronization service (CSS) must be up and running. and says to run "/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/ localconfig reset* as root user..
i run it and it give no error.. i think service is up, you please tell me why i can't configure asm ? please guide.. thanksAs ASM is integrated with GI in 11gR2 you need to configure ASM instance with 11gr2 rather than 10gR2. Create all required ASM diskgroups and start the ASM instance with 11gR2 GI and then install the 10gR2 binaries and created the database.

Upgrade clusterware to 10.2.0.5
Experts,
Can we upgrade oracle clusterware from base version to 10.2.0.5 directly and similarly for RDBMS ?
Where can we download the patchset ?
Patchset number seems to be same for RDBMA and clusterware, is it so ?
Need help.
AIX 5.3
Oracle 10.2.0.5 - to be installed
2 node RAC
=== Riaz- Download 10.2.0.5 sw and unzip
- Stop crs - $CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl stop crs.
- Run preupdate.sh available in installation files
- Run runInstall
- Specify correct Home
- Select node
- Run prerequisite checks and run installation
- Than run upgrade script as root
To check version run:
$CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl query crs activeversion
$CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl query crs softwareversion
Regards,
Marko -
Dear all,
I am trying to install clean Oracle 11.2.0.3 grid infrastructure on a two node cluster running on Solaris 5.10.
- Cluster verification was successfully on both nodes; No warning or issues;
- I am using 2 network cards for the public and 2 for the private interconnect;
- OCR is stored on ASM
- Firewall is disabled on both nodes
- SCAN is being configured on the DNS (not added in /etc/hosts)
- GNS is not used
- hosts file is identical (except the primary hostname)
The problem: root.sh fails on the 2nd (remote) node, because it fails to start the "ora.asm" resource. However, the root.sh has completed successfully on the 1st node.. Somehow, root.sh doesn't create +ASM2 instance on the remote (host2) node.
root.sh was executed first on the local node (host1) and after the successful execution was started on the remote (host2) node.
Output from host1 (working):

- Yes, the shared storage is accessible.
- The alert log for the +ASM2 clearly shows that ASM instance has started normally using default parameters and at one point PMON process dumped.
- The system logs just shows that there is an error executing "crswrapexece.pl"

Hi all,
I'm trying to upgrade my RAC installation.
To test and validate the procedure, i'm first trying it on a one node cluster (node named camrdo01) running on 10.1.0.3 (CRS & Database).
When i'm lauching OUI for the Clusterware 10.2.0.1 installation, on the node selection screen, the node is present and selected, but I can't go on, i'm getting an OUI-25023 Error.
Here is the log from this installation:

The Script root.sh problem - ora.asm and ASM and Clusterware Stack failed
Folks,
Hello. I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC using 2 VMs (rac1 and rac2) whose OS are Oracle Linux 5.6 in VMPlayer according to the website http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2011/10/11gr2-rac-on-linux-56-using-vmware.html
I am installing Grid infrastructure. On step 9 of 10 - execute script /u01/app/grid/root.sh for 2 VMs rac1 and rac2.
After run root.sh in rac1 successfully. I run root.sh in rac2 and get an error as below:

I am trying to configure RAC on solaris 10 OS running on a 64 bit SPARC machine using RAW slices for the cluster files /dev/rdsk/c1t9d0s5 (OCR)and /dev/rdsk/c1t9d0s6 (Vote Disk). Using format command, I would create these slices leaving about 10 cylinders initially I would assign 200mb for each slice.
when I try to run OUI for cluster ware 10.2.0.1 at the step when I am asked to run root.sh, my attempt to run this script continues to fail with below error message.

From the log files under the folder CRS_HOME/log/<hostname>/client does not reveal much information either... If you have any idea of whats going wrong and needs a fix/workaround could you please help me? Below are more details of the Software Stack and H/W which may be of some help.
OS: Solaris 5.10 running on SF 480R.
Cluster 10.2.0.1
I intend to install RDBMS 10.2.0.1 on top of this and later upgrade it to 11.1
I am referring to the Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Installation Guide (b14205-01) published by Oracle.
Thanks in advance.
Sarat. Thanks for the assiatance. However, I am yet to proceed beyond this root.sh.
after multiple tries.. I am coming across this Oracle UDLM software which I am sure I do not have on my cluster machines. But not in every place is it mentioned? What is this software about.. I have searched all my oracle and no where this package / patch is available.. if you know about it ( the patch number or something) can you help me?
Also I have a question to clarify... it could be elimentary .. but request your patience... On the Sun Cluster we have defined Disk Resource Groups which are configured for cold failover along with other resource groups ... is this some thing which is not allowed/permitted.. I mean not supported...
I will need your help as I am singing this song of Oracle RAC on Sun Solaris 10 for the first time..
Regards!

Important points to install 10gR2 oracle RAC in linux5.
1.LINUX 5(Redhat 5) doesn't have /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices file. so we have to configure it.
2. Edit the /etc/redhat-release version to redhat-4 and and to invoke the runInstaller use the command
$runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs. //this will bypass the os check //
3. Next during clusterware installation at the end of root.sh in node 2 end with error message. So we have adjust the parameters in vipca and srvctl files.
4. vipca will fail to run. so we have to adjust some parameters and configure it manually.
refer the link, it will be useful to you to complete your installation.

Failed to initialize Oracle Cluster Registry for cluster, rc 105
Oracle Grid Infrastructure Repository configuration failed at /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/crsconfig_lib.pm line 6818.The document references posted already are very good ones. However, I would say that on personal experience (on Solaris and 10gR2) that the addnode tools gave me nothing but problems. Luckily, I was able to build a parallel cluster (with three nodes) on other hardware and then move the databases across via DataGuard. It was quicker and cleaner (and easier!) that way...
Good luck! -

Running root.sh during clusterware install fails
Attempting to set up Clusterware/RAC for the first time. Running into a problem running root.sh after the clusterware installation.
I get the following output.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Here is the output from running runcluvfy.sh stage -pre crsinst -n linuxdb1,linuxdb2 -verbove
I X'd out some ipaddresses. I have ran this previously before attempting to install the clusterware software, and all checks say 'passed', but at the bottom, it says it was unsuccessfull. I have been unable to determine was wrong from looking at this output.
