CMD commands in Java?

Ok, Im creating a java program to run in command prompt. I was woundering if there is a way to run command prompt's cmd command (or if java has a simmular command) to clear the screen. I know c++ is able to run the cls command by stateing System("cls");

I think you mostly get the same answers as above, but search the forum for "cls dos" (not in quotes, though). You get lots of answers.

CMD commands from Java applications

I have been searching around and trying to see if it is possible to open a DOS window (via cmd) and run a command (ie: ping, tracert) from a Java GUI. I not found anything as of yet. I am familiar with Runtime.exec(); but it does not seem to like cmd. I can launch other applications, but it does not seem to launch a command window at all, and if I add any other arguements it will give me an IO error.
Anyone have any ideas?

how can I make my java programm run the directX diagnostics tool and write the results into a file?
I guess its the command Runtime.exec(....) but what do I have to fill in?

If you do this you will only have one line of data saved in your String you would have lost all previous data from this stream seperated by a new line char

If I run "mkdir" instead of "dir" folder is created in current directory. But in case of "dir" listing of file folders is not displayed to me . means "dir " is not running.

??First of all, you're not even calling the Happy Holiday one. If you want it to do something, you have to invoke it.
And by the way, in your comments, you mention that in one case, a new process is created. Actually, new processes are created each time you call Runtime.exec.
Anyway, if you want the output from the processes, you read it using getInputStream from the Process class. In fact, you really should read that stream anyway (read that URL I sent you to find out why).
If you want to print that output to the screen, then do so as you'd print anything to the screen.
in notepad HelloWorld.java, I can see it is opened,
but in Java, not.I have no idea what you're saying here. It's not relevant whether a source code file is opened in Notepad, when running a program.

How to use cvs checkout command in java

I have installed cvs client in ubuntu
I have one problem running 'cvs checkout' command through java..
"cvs" -d ":ext:[email protected]:/var/cvs" co -P "Auto/test"
When i run the above command in terminal, i got one prompt like '[email protected]'s password:' in the terminal if i give the valid password the folder 'Auto' checked out successfully..
I have tried following steps but i don't know how to give the password to the terminal using java
First i created the 'checkout.sh' file.
In this i have typed "cvs" -d ":ext:[email protected]:/var/cvs" co -P "Auto/test"
Then i call it using java by the following code

Running shell command from Java, but from Windows Schedule Task?

I have a simple java program that will start a dos based program. The java program works great when I run it, but when I run it from the Windows Task Scheduler, the dox box that should pop up, does not. It is running because I can see it in the task manager but I can not see the command window.
Any ideas how to show the command window from a java application that is ran from Windows Task Scheduler?
Example program below. Runs fine by itself, should get a dos popup that issues the directory command, run it from the scheduler and it does not show the dos box. You can however see it in the Processes as CMD.exe.

Actually, the question of whether it works for me seems to depend on the version of the OS (or Oracle). On RedHat Linux (Oracle 8.1.6) it didn't work at all, but on Solaris (Oracle 9.0.2) it did. Here's the output from that run:

You might consider, if possible, use of some of the Java File classes instead of ls, as this might make things more predictable for you. There were some examples in oramag.com a few months ago, but they were pretty simple (you might not need them).

Use the java.lang.Runtime interface. The exec() method allows you to execute commands from the command shell:
String cmd = new String[2];
cmd[0] = "cl";
cmd[1] = fileToDelete;
Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
rt.exec(cmd);

Call an interactive UNIX command from java

Hi,
I want to call a UNIX command from java. When issue the command 'htpasswd -c filename username' on UNIX terminal, it asks for the new password and the then confirmation password again (yeah, unfortunately the htpasswd installed on our system does not allow you proivde the password on the command line. So have to work interactively ). Now, I have written a simple java program RunCommand.java. I am hardcoding the password for the htpasswd command in the file (in the real situation, password will be generated dynamically). I want to issue 'java RunCommand' on the UNIX command line and get back the command prompt without being asked for the password twice. The code is below, but the Outputstream does not work as expected. It always asks for inputs. Any idea? Many thanks.

Help with executing windows command in java

hi, i am trying to execute dos command in java. currently i am trying simply to create a folder in the current directory.
here is the code snippet:

i have also tried using "mkdir" instead of "md". but my code just throws an exception that says:
java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: md myFolder error=2
what have I done wrong? thanks in advance

if it wouldn't be too much trouble, what is the option "/c" for?

Can i run DOS command in Java environment?
I did like this:
Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
r.exec("cmd.exe");
r.exec("set classpath=%CLASSPATH%;.\\tmp")
but failed.
However if I run the java command, it runs successfully.
r.exec("javac Test.java");
r.exec("java Test");
how should I do so that i can run the DOS commands metioned above in Java Environment?
