Cmos clock broken fsck

Hi. My cmos clock is not working. I am sure that it is not working. At the boot i come with an error that says: last mount is on the future or something like that. In order to skip this i have to access bios every time and change the clock date. What else can i do to skip this fsck? i can't replace the clock

Maybe you should replace the battery that helps keep your bios settings and the time. If this happens a lot the most probable cause is a dead battery (the flat, round and shinny thing that should be somewhere inside your pc , check the board manual you can find it easily)

I suspected some issue with AV so uninstalled.
To resolve the Access Denied I followed these steps:
    stop w32time
    w32tm /unregister
    reboot
    regsvr32 /u w32time.dll
    w32tm /register
sc query w32time -- you should see that the service is set to
shared mode -- this is presumably how it should be -- if you try to start right now, you'll get the expected 1290 SID-related error
    reboot
w32time should now automatically start at boot up and be running -- that was my result -- it's running as shared, started on its own, and I can do the w32tm /query commands successfully
After rebooting the time service started.
    I then repeated the steps:
    net stop w32time
    w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:"0.pool.ntp.org, 1.pool.ntp.org, 2.pool.ntp.org"
    w32tm /config /reliable:yes
    net start w32time
    w32tm /query /configuration
And all worked. I'll wait a short while to see if this fixes the issue. I also have am SA case with MS so will confirm fix when resolved.

  • Windows Time "Allowing" the OS Kernel to sync to CMOS clock after 24H of no valid time sync

    Hello,
I have been observing the following scenario with the following environment:
    Windows 2008 Server R2
    Not part of a domain
CMOS always clock drifted and not sync'd from the OS NTP Aware time.
    1. Assume Windows Time has a problem syncing with a time source and produces the following when asked "w32tm /query /status /verbose":
    Leap Indicator: 0(no warning)
Stratum: 3 (secondary reference - syncd by (S)NTP)
    Precision: -6 (15.625ms per tick)
    Root Delay: 0.2028500s
    Root Dispersion: 7.8420074s
    ReferenceId: 0x413738CE (source IP:  65.55.56.206)
Last Successful Sync Time: 2/1/2014 2:33:18 PM
    Source: time.windows.com,0x9
    Poll Interval: 10 (1024s)
    Phase Offset: -0.0260539s
    ClockRate: 0.0155992s
    State Machine: 2 (Sync)
    Time Source Flags: 0 (None)
    Server Role: 0 (None)
Last Sync Error: 2 (The computer did not resync because only stale time data was
     available.)
Time since Last Good Sync Time: 85499.5378040s
    2. When "Time since Last Good Sync Time" arrives at the value 86400 (24H) an event log message such as the following is registered:
The time service has not synchronized the system time for 86400 seconds because none of the time service providers provided a usable time stamp. The time service will not update the local system time until it is able to synchronize with a time source. If the
local system is configured to act as a time server for clients, it will stop advertising as a time source to clients. The time service will continue to retry and sync time with its time sources. Check system event log for other W32time events for more details.
Run 'w32tm /resync' to force an instant time synchronization.
    3. If the debug log of windows time was enabled with all the events (0-300) using "w32tm /debug .." The following records can be found in the log at the time:
     - W32TmServiceMain: timeout
     - ClockDispln GoUnsyncd: SetUnsync: LI:3 S:0 RDl:2184500 RDs:78611726 TSF:0x0
    ReleaseClock2CMOS
     - Logging warning: The time service has not synchronized the system time for 86400 seconds because none of the time service providers provided a usable time stamp. The time service will not update the local system time until it is able to synchronize
with a time source. If the local system is configured to act as a time server for clients, it will stop advertising as a time source to clients. The time service will continue to retry and sync time with its time sources. Check system event log for other W32time
events for more details. Run 'w32tm /resync' to force an instant time synchronization.
     - W32TmServiceMain: waiting 642.223s
    4. When the above occurs, we have observed that the OS Kernel would begin syncing to the underlying CMOS clock when they are different from each other in more than 60 seconds. The sync would occur on the next "sync point" which will arrive. A "Sync
point" is the end of a 60 minute cycle, counting from boot time and repeating.
Note: The CMOS clock could be off in more then 60 seconds for example when it's battery is dead, or on a virtualized environment under some conditions. (If anyone is interested in more details, please ask in the comment)
    My Questions:
    a. Parts of this behavior are well documented - can anyone confirm my analysis of the situation is correct?
    b. Does anyone have knowledge of the term "ReleaseClock2CMOS" which appears in the Windows Time log? What exactly does it mean?
    c. Under which conditions will the kernel avoid syncing to an underlying 60 seconds-off CMOS clock? Under which conditions will it sync (aside from what i described)?
    Any info would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your question.
I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • W32time source showing as Local CMOS clock

I have 3 virtual servers, all on different hosts, which are currently showing the wrong time. All other machines on the Domain get their time from the Domain Controller.
I have only been making changes on 1 server to ensure that this works. Originally the server was showing as getting its time from the host machine (VM IC Time Synchronization Provider). I then attempted:
    w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update
Stopped and started the w32time service, then checked the source again. This was then showing as local CMOS clock.
I have tried several things, including setting a peer list with just the required Domain Controller, but the source remains as CMOS clock.
I've switched Time Integration services off on the Host, which I understand is not an ideal thing to do, but I'm at a loss.
    Please help

  • W32tm always on "Local CMOS clock" on virtual domain controller - cannot change to NTP server

The domain controller (Server 2012R2) is hosted on Hyper-V (Server 2012R2). It is a PDC.
    - firewall disabled
    - cleaned up w32tm:
    net stop w32time
    w32tm /unregister
    w32tm /register
    net start w32time
    - applied ifixit from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042 to enable external ntp server de.pool.ntp.org
    - disabled
    VMICTimeProvider in registry
    (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\VMICTimeProvider\Enabled = 0)
I can manually query the ntp server de.pool.ntp.org:

    rosch

    Hi rosch,
Based on your description, please check if disable the "Time synchronization" Integration service. Please refer
    to the following operation.
In Hyper-V Manager, right click the DC and select “Settings…”.
In the left panel of Settings, navigate to Integration Services and click it.
Then in the right panel, please uncheck Time synchronization.
By the way, please check if can connect to the time server and UDP port was opened for NTP.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Domain Controller - Time Syncing with CMOS Clock

    Hello!
We have a DC that is syncing time from "local CMOS clock."  This DC is a VM (hyper V).  Integration services has "time sync" turned off.

  • Cmos/Clock is resetting every time

    Hello,
I have a HP pavilion ze4900 Laptop but every time i turn on my computer the Cmos-time is not correct annymore.
I think it is the Cmos-Batery, but how can i replace it, and how do i open the laptop to do so?

    Download Here
I don't recall where the clock battery is on that model and the Manual is not too helpful, either but it will show you how to disassemble until you find it.

    Clone multiply-claimed blocks? no
    Delete file? no
When I listen/look at those files through mplayer, it doesn't seem to have any problems whatsoever in playing them and I don't hear any glitches. Everything seems to be fine with the files themselves.
Now, before I run "e2fsck -y /dev/sdX1" and lose a lot of precious time reripping music, I was wondering about the chances e2fsck may cause damage. Or whether not fixing (what doesn't seem to be broken) may cause disasters of even greater proportions in the long run.
    Please help?

The reason I asked was because $favouritesearchengine got me mixed results. One case stated everything was fine, afterwards, another said some files went missing or were misplaced.
But luckily, the number of directories in question isn't that high, so I'll backup manually and see how things works out. I'll report back here afterwards so future generations will know what to do.

  • Clock out of sync again

ok, the clock, i cant get it right.
using KDE, i cant seem to get my clock to display what i want.  since the new deprecation for the timezones, i have had problems.  i went through the entire tutorial a couple times, and have made manual adjustments to files, and clock alike.
my clock is still about 7 hrs behind, which is my timezone, PST (los angeles) -8GMT, with daylight savings time is -7GMT, or vice versa.
    anybody have any foolproof suggestions?

the error i was referring to  was the time being displayed incorrectly, i mispoke.  i had it set at UTC, and with my timezone set to Los Angeles, it looks no different than when i set the HW clock to Los Angeles, and system clock to Los Angeles.
i guess i can go through it again.
    ok, after entering this
    grep ^HARDWARECLOCK /etc/rc.conf
    hwclock --utc
    HARDWARECLOCK="UTC"
    grep ^TIMEZONE /etc/rc.conf
    cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Chicago /etc/localtime
this set my current time to 5 hours behind, and my UTC to -12 hours behind, this is probably because the time was wrong to begin with.
then using KDE i set the time to current, which is 1:44pm
    now
    hwclock --show
    reflects 1:44pm
by now im a bit confused.
i thought HW clock, was my cmos, not arch.
    # date
    Mon Aug 1 13:46:47 CDT 2011
now next time i edit my cmos clock which i alter my systems over here regularly, i will have to remember that i just changed my lifetime format from localtime to UTC, and have to first figure out if daylight savings time is in effect, to see if Pacific time is -7 or -8 currently, then add that to my local time to get UTC time.  see how confusing setting CMOS to UTC is....
ok, i will admit the above was sort of a rant and to highlight the problems one may run into...
    now, back to square 1,
    ok
    # hwclock --show
    displays
    Mon 01 Aug 2011 01:50:57 PM CDT -0.172132 seconds
    and
    # date
    displays
    Mon Aug 1 13:52:03 CDT 2011
but since i have a timezone set, why is HW clock (aka cmos) displaying the same as my desktop clock, when i set the HW clock for UTC?

  • Clock moving too fast... again.

I've had this problem before, I think...  Here is the thread:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=28538
The short version is that I added "clock=pit" to the kernel boot line in grub, and it worked until now.  The argument is still there in my menu.lst.  Is it possible that kernel developers actually used some code in the "default" clock timer in the "pit" clock, and transferred a bug?
Everywhere I read of clock skew problems, people mention the CMOS battery.  If you run a system almost 24/7 (I rarely turn off my computer) would it matter if the CMOS battery were dying?  I'm not sure about this, but I think that linux only reads the time from the CMOS when it boots up, and then it keeps track of time on it's own, so the CMOS battery would have no effect on the system time while the computer was running.
Right now, according to my clock radio (not pc related) it is 1602.  My taskbar clock says 1622, and when I run hwclock it says "Mon 04 Jun 2007 04:29:15 PM PDT  -0.020001 seconds".  So if I understand this correctly, my CMOS clock is actually ahead of my linux clock which is ahead of real time.
Any ideas or new information anyone?

OK, I feel dumb, but I finally solved my problem.  I thought that dynamic overclocking was disabled, but my bios has 2 different locations where it can be enabled.  I found the second menu where it was enabled and disabled it, and my clock is pretty much perfect now.  I had "noapic" in my kernel boot loader line, but I think the proper argument is "apic=no" or something like that.  That probably would have solved the problem as well.
I think that this is technically a bug.  I've read several kernel bug reports that could actually be the same problem, but it gets kind of confusing because there were so many bugs with somewhat similar symptoms.
I'm not marking this "resolved" because there is still a bug that hasn't been fixed yet.  As unlikely as it seems, this thread might get the attention of somebody that actually has the skills required to write a patch.  Thanks again guys.
I should throw in some info on my system.  It is an MSI k7n2 delta 2

  • Install changes system clock

how come when i install arch, and then boot into windows later, my system clock is changed to like 8 hours ago.  has this happened to anyone before?

And what time is it really ?
What I would do now : decide for yourself if you want the CMOS clock in localtime or not. Your decision will probably depend on your Windows system. If you have WIndows98 (first edition) or earlier, you have no choice: CMOS should be localtime. If you have Win98SE or later then carefully check in your Windows system how you set it up. It *usually* wants it in localtime, but it can handle UTC, therefore check your configuration.
Now, you know how you want your CMOS/BIOS clock to be.
Now boot into Arch and edit /etc/rc.conf accordingly. Note, however that your TIMEZONE is incorrect. You probably want something like
    TIMEZONE=America/New_York
    TIMEZONE=EST
Note, that the first automatically switches between daylight savings time, whereas the second does not necessarily. The value you give to TIMEZONE has to actually exist as a file in /usr/share/zoneinfo/ (I.e. no matter weather you live in Boston, D.C., Miami, Atlanta, Philladelphia you always choose America/New_York) !
Now that you have edited /etc/rc.conf correctly, I would boot into the BIOS and set the CMOS clock there correctly.

  • [Solved] Several problems after switch to systemd

After many issues with today's update (like broken locale, broken suspend2ram, broken shutdown/restart, broken autologin, broken CPU clocking, broken fan control and broken wicd) I'm stuck with three of them, the most important being wicd.
Autologin is working now and after login I have to enter a password for wicd (which was not the case before the update). After entering the password I get the dbus connection error: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/wi … or_message If I kill wicd (which is runnig directly after boot, but not running properly), starting and stopping and starting again with systemctl works fine. But the autostart mostly fails for some reason (in rare cases it works though). I'm quite new to systemd and don't even know hot to open the new journal in a proper editor to search for errors efficiently.
The second thing is that the locale is being reset to C or POSIX I suppose, at least it's not German as it should be and also is set in /etc/locale.conf.
The third thing is that the Thinkpad fan control fails to start, too. I created a .conf file to load the thinkpad_acpi module which seems to work. If I start /usr/sbin/tpfand manually, the fan control works. But here also the autostart fails.
Sorry for the confused description containing about nothing on error or debug information, but I don't really know where to start digging and get useful information about systemd.
    Thanks for any hint,
    PhotonX

  • I have a domain with 2 DCs (both virtual machines) in different Hyper-V Hosts. Dose this case make any influence on the time sync?

    As title,
I have a domain with 2 DCs (both virtual machines) in 2 different Hyper-V Hosts, and one of the perform as a PDC Emulator.
Dose this case make any influence on the time sync?
i.e. Both of the VMs sync with Hyper-V host, instead the other host should sync with the PDC Emulator?
I run w32tm command and get the following result:
    C:\Users\Administrator.DOMAIN8>w32tm /query /computer:dc8.domain8.local /source
    VM IC Time Synchronization Provider
    C:\Users\Administrator.DOMAIN8>w32tm /query /computer:hpvzh05.domain8.local /source
    VM IC Time Synchronization Provider
    HPVZH05.domain8.local works as PDC server.
How can I make DC8 sync with HPVZH05?

    Awesome!
It looks like your PDC is successfully pulling time from an external source.  DC8 is not longer pulling from Hyper-V so that is good.
When you set a client to pull from a source ( and in this case DC8 is pulling from NT5DS, which tells it to pull from the PDC), and it CAN'T pull from that source, it will default to Local CMOS Clock.  This is likely an easy fix.
    First, check connectivity:
    - Method one- Download Portqry and run this command: portqry -n HPVZH05 -p both -e 123 and see if the results say listening, or
    - Method two- Run this command from DC8: w32tm /stripchart /computer:HPVZH05
If you get any kind of error using method two, it's a connectivity issue.  (Maybe you have a firewall that's blocking access?)
The other cause of this, and probably more likely in your case, is that your PDC isn't properly advertising as a reliable time source, so DC8 isn't 'allowed' to pull from it.
Try running this command on your PDC: w32tm /config /reliable:yes
Then go restart time on your PDC, THEN DC8 again.  (net stop w32time & net start w32time)

  • Bios Update Failed HP Compaq Presario V3000 Laptop

I have a HP Compaq Presario V3000 Laptop, and I tried to performed a HP Flash BIOS update, but the computer restarted during the update. After that the laptop starts but nothing happens, its a totally blank screen. I have tried removing the battery (Both the CMOS Clock batthery) aswell as the main battery, but the BIOS does not gets restored.
How can I undo the Flash BIOS update performed in my laptop, and restore it back to its orignal. Because I cannot interact with the laptop, as nothing happens. Would be appreciated, if anyone could help me on this.

  • Time server in a domain

i just set my pdc emulator on a 2012 r2 domain to get time from the ntp.org time servers
    looks to be working, when i do a w32tm /query /status i get the source either 1, 2, or 3.north-america.pool.ntp.org,0x8
Likewise when i do it on my "backup" domain controller (no roles on this one) i get the source as the PDCe above.
My domain contollers are fine.  My member servers, which i thought by default would synch with the DC that it authenticates with, i get all sorts of sources.
One has source:CMOS clock, another source:time.windows.com,0x1
Should I be configuring the time settings for my member servers as well?  If so, GPO would be the preferred way if anyone has tips....thank you.

Any machines joined to the domain should synchronize their time with the server holding the PDC role, no further configuration is required.  Are these member servers on the same subnet as the PDC role holder? If not then perhaps the connection is being
blocked by a firewall somewhere. Are there any errors in the event logs of the member server relating to the time service that might have logged a fault in the event viewer.
