Domain Controller - Time Syncing with CMOS Clock

Hello!
We have a DC that is syncing time from "local CMOS clock."  This DC is a VM (hyper V).  Integration services has "time sync" turned off.
I've attempted syncing the DC to an external time source per http://www.thirdtier.net/2011/02/how-to-set-an-ntp-time-server-in-windows-2008-sbs-2008-and-sbs-2011/ and the issue persists.
Also of note - I've attempted syncing the VMHOST to an external source as well, and it is only syncing with CMOS clock

I manually restarted Windows Time service, still syncing to CMOS

I can provide whatever other info that may prove useful.  I've looked @ other posts RE: this issue and feel like I might be missing something obvious, but I am at a loss.
Thank you!

Hi,
Is UDP 123 open on the machine? I suggest you try to disable firewall to see if it works.

How do I sync my new ipad mini with my old ipad 2, without losing any apps or data in notes?  I need step by step instructions for first-time sync with ipad mini.  Thanks.

If you synced it many times, you have to have a backup. It's just a question of how old that backup is now. When did you last sync?
First of all launch iTunes on your computer and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices. Do you see any backups for you iPad in that window? If so, how new is the newest backup? That will be the backup that you will want to use. But remember that if you use that backup and it is one month old, you can only restore from that date back in time. Anything that you did on the iPad in the past month will not be in that backup.
Turn on the new iPad Minin and start activating OTA via WiFi. You will get to a certain point in the process where you will be given the choice to Set up as new, Restore from iCloud - or Restore from iTunes. You will want to select Restore from iTunes.
That is the short and sweet version. There are step by step instructions in this article. This applies to the mini as well as the iPad 4 or the iPad 3 for that matter.

  • SbRIo time sync with SNTP server

    Hi!
I'm syncronizing a sbRIo with a time server as described here:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/F2B057C72B537EA2862572D100646D43?OpenDocument
    I've a couple of questions:
    1) what happens if the time server becomes unreachable?
    2) can source.sntp.address be specified as a name address to be rosolved by a DNS? (It seems to me that if the name can't be resolved the board boots in safe mode...)
thanks in advance for any reply,
    Marco
    p.s. sorry for cross-posting (http://forums.ni.com/t5/Real-Time-Measurement-and/sbRIo-time-sync-with-SNTP-server/m-p/1951123),
but the problem is quite urgent...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Marco,
    1) If the SNTP time server becomes unreachable, the cRio will update the local time independently, starting from the last time value get from the server
    2) You are right, it doesn't work properly. The right way to express the SNTP source is using IP address

I suspected some issue with AV so uninstalled.
To resolve the Access Denied I followed these steps:
    stop w32time
    w32tm /unregister
    reboot
    regsvr32 /u w32time.dll
    w32tm /register
sc query w32time -- you should see that the service is set to
shared mode -- this is presumably how it should be -- if you try to start right now, you'll get the expected 1290 SID-related error
    reboot
w32time should now automatically start at boot up and be running -- that was my result -- it's running as shared, started on its own, and I can do the w32tm /query commands successfully
After rebooting the time service started.
    I then repeated the steps:
    net stop w32time
    w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:"0.pool.ntp.org, 1.pool.ntp.org, 2.pool.ntp.org"
    w32tm /config /reliable:yes
    net start w32time
    w32tm /query /configuration
And all worked. I'll wait a short while to see if this fixes the issue. I also have am SA case with MS so will confirm fix when resolved.

  • Windows Time "Allowing" the OS Kernel to sync to CMOS clock after 24H of no valid time sync

    Hello,
I have been observing the following scenario with the following environment:
    Windows 2008 Server R2
    Not part of a domain
CMOS always clock drifted and not sync'd from the OS NTP Aware time.
    1. Assume Windows Time has a problem syncing with a time source and produces the following when asked "w32tm /query /status /verbose":
    Leap Indicator: 0(no warning)
Stratum: 3 (secondary reference - syncd by (S)NTP)
    Precision: -6 (15.625ms per tick)
    Root Delay: 0.2028500s
    Root Dispersion: 7.8420074s
    ReferenceId: 0x413738CE (source IP:  65.55.56.206)
Last Successful Sync Time: 2/1/2014 2:33:18 PM
    Source: time.windows.com,0x9
    Poll Interval: 10 (1024s)
    Phase Offset: -0.0260539s
    ClockRate: 0.0155992s
    State Machine: 2 (Sync)
    Time Source Flags: 0 (None)
    Server Role: 0 (None)
Last Sync Error: 2 (The computer did not resync because only stale time data was
     available.)
Time since Last Good Sync Time: 85499.5378040s
    2. When "Time since Last Good Sync Time" arrives at the value 86400 (24H) an event log message such as the following is registered:
The time service has not synchronized the system time for 86400 seconds because none of the time service providers provided a usable time stamp. The time service will not update the local system time until it is able to synchronize with a time source. If the
local system is configured to act as a time server for clients, it will stop advertising as a time source to clients. The time service will continue to retry and sync time with its time sources. Check system event log for other W32time events for more details.
Run 'w32tm /resync' to force an instant time synchronization.
    3. If the debug log of windows time was enabled with all the events (0-300) using "w32tm /debug .." The following records can be found in the log at the time:
     - W32TmServiceMain: timeout
     - ClockDispln GoUnsyncd: SetUnsync: LI:3 S:0 RDl:2184500 RDs:78611726 TSF:0x0
    ReleaseClock2CMOS
     - Logging warning: The time service has not synchronized the system time for 86400 seconds because none of the time service providers provided a usable time stamp. The time service will not update the local system time until it is able to synchronize
with a time source. If the local system is configured to act as a time server for clients, it will stop advertising as a time source to clients. The time service will continue to retry and sync time with its time sources. Check system event log for other W32time
events for more details. Run 'w32tm /resync' to force an instant time synchronization.
     - W32TmServiceMain: waiting 642.223s
    4. When the above occurs, we have observed that the OS Kernel would begin syncing to the underlying CMOS clock when they are different from each other in more than 60 seconds. The sync would occur on the next "sync point" which will arrive. A "Sync
point" is the end of a 60 minute cycle, counting from boot time and repeating.
Note: The CMOS clock could be off in more then 60 seconds for example when it's battery is dead, or on a virtualized environment under some conditions. (If anyone is interested in more details, please ask in the comment)
    My Questions:
    a. Parts of this behavior are well documented - can anyone confirm my analysis of the situation is correct?
    b. Does anyone have knowledge of the term "ReleaseClock2CMOS" which appears in the Windows Time log? What exactly does it mean?
    c. Under which conditions will the kernel avoid syncing to an underlying 60 seconds-off CMOS clock? Under which conditions will it sync (aside from what i described)?
    Any info would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your question.
I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience.

  • Domain controller 2008 Server with SP2

Here is a real issue which i cannot track down what is causing it.
It appears that in windows 2008 Server running DHCP, DNS and AD i am getting some weird errors on the clients.
The client machines are all Windows 7 Professional x64.
The Issue is that the Domain controller seems to disappear as the logon server from the client after a few days. On some it indicates that there was no logon server available, but still logs in.. Which should be impossible since i have group policy configured
to block the ability of logon without a logon server.
The issue with this, is that over time, the desktops seem to go rogue, they no longer populate the information as to password expiration, and at times don't allow the clients to access the network shares.
The security log, shows hit and miss as to if it sees them log into the domain.
the weird issue is that if you log out, switch user, and change the users password, then log back into the desktop with domain\username and a new password the issue goes away for about 10 days.. then re-appears and causes all sorts of fun issues on the domain.
I took another step and decided that i would give a shot to building a clone test network, using a cloned image of the Domain controller, and it doesn't seem to happen on that side..The test network just has less PC's but they are all the same hardware..
Here is what i have troubleshot so far:
DNS looks fine.. no errors or issues..
DHCP looks fine, no duplicates etc..
AD has all the information correctly, and the security log looks fine, most of the time..
Windows updates are all up to date
All desktops have logon scripts, but i have removed the cached data from the management console (Cred manager)
Modified Group policy and forced it across the network.. Can see the GPResult from the clients and they have the updated settings, but the clients don't seem to care..
Group policy is set to wait till network comes up and require a domain controller to log into the client desktop.. This sometimes works, sometimes does not, it was done to see if the problem was happening on other machines, there are about 15 total out of
    47 currently having the issue.
All the desktops are fresh installs, not ghosted images, not clones, or something you would need to sysprep.
    Thoughts?
    Rob

    Hello,
please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the DC/DNS servers and a client with the problems.

  • Primary Domain Controller Time not working (Windows Server 2008)

Hi there, I'm trying to set up my PDC with an external
before you say anything I have checked other thread and none of them helped and please do not suggest OS upgrades, we don't have the budget for that
we have 4 DC servers (not the real names)
    DC1-Site1 (PDC), DC2-Site1, DC1-Site2 & DC2-Site2
All the other DCs and all the machines pick up the time from DC1-Site1, but this is out of sync with NTP
I've set DC1-Site1 to look at 0.uk.pool.ntp.org, 1.uk.pool.ntp.org, 2.uk.pool.ntp.org and 3.uk.pool.ntp.org using w32tm (yes i was running command prompt as administrator)
I am using a physical server not a virtual server
I have checked all the registry keys and they are correct, but when i do w32tm /mointor it is pointing to itself
I have tired creating a GPO for the PDC and this is being applied when I check with gpresult /r but this still doesn't sync the time with the NTP server
when i do w32tm /stripchart my PDU is +53.4 seconds out of sync with 0.uk.pool.ntp.org
it's not the firewall as the PDU can connect to 0.uk.pool.ntp.org on the correct port
    C:\Windows\system32>w32tm /stripchart /computer:0.uk.pool.ntp.org /samples:10 /dataonly
    Tracking 0.uk.pool.ntp.org [130.159.196.118:123].
    Collecting 10 samples.
The current time is 16/05/2014 14:18:39.
    14:18:39, +53.4132568s
    14:18:41, +53.4028126s

The PDC Emulator in the forest root is the only one that you sync with an outside source, and the source can be  your own interna,, 3rd party time service not running on a joined machine, or an external source such as US Navy servers, etc. All other
DCs in the entire forest, no matter what domain or tree, are set to sync from the hierarchy.
For the most part, just following the steps in my blog should help for the PDC and all other DCs. I thought I layed out the steps pretty clearly, since I put it together for someone else to follow at a major, enterprise environment, and they've found it
    successul.
So I'm not sure what you mean by "...primary DC time server service information not save or it will save then revert back to looking at itself?"
If the PDC or any other DC, have problems with the time service and the steps in my blog don't help, or any other service, the cause may be rooted elsewhere. To determine that, would require config info including an ipconfig /all from each DC,
event log errors in the various AD logs and System logs, site design, number of domains in the forest, and more.

basically when i run the command it says it ran successfully, but when i do w32tm /mointor it says the server is pointing to local, and it is still 53 seconds
out of sinc with the specified time servers when i do w32tm /stripchart /computer:0.uk.pool.ntp.org

  • Ical clock not in sync with computer clock

1.My Ical clock is out of sync with the computer clock
    2. the Ical clock is not adjusting to Daylight saving time
    3. It is also not working as a 24hour clock

I am having a similar problem. My question is right here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16581189#16581189
I have 11 calendars but only 6 show up. I assumed that 6 was the limit for some reason, so it's interesting to see the disparity.

  • Hold time problems with Dual Clock FIFO

Undoubtedly the main use-case for Dual Clock FIFOs is the transport of data across clock domains.
In this simple example, a serial datastream is deserialized and written to a dual clock FIFO, which in turn is read in a different (slightly faster) clock domain by a simple loopback unit, which takes the data and sends it back through another dual clock FIFO, where it is read and serialized out again.
The clock rates used are relatively slow (10Mhz and 12MHz) compared to the FPGA capabilities (both fabric and FIFO), so I would expect this to be straight forward and without any issues. Nevertheless, Vivado constantly creates a number of hold time violations on the input of the output FIFO (usually a few hundred picoseconds) where the routing delay seems to be in the range of 5ns, which I consider odd, given that both clocks have a period which is a magnitude higher.
The loopback should be synchronous with one clock cycle delay, so I wouldn't expect any problems from there.
As usual, I'm probably missing the obvious here and I'm looking forward to a great explanation what I did wrong :)
    Thanks in advance,
    Herbert

    Here is the Timing Report.
The issue might be caused by the Quick directive given for place and route.
      place_design -directive Quick
      route_design -directive Quick
At least the hold time violations in this example go away when I remove the directive.
Thanks for looking into it, appreciated!
    Best,
    Herbert

  • Synchronize the Domain Controllers Time Service with the PDC

    Hi All,
I'm having problems with time synchronization between DC and PDC.
PDC is configured with external time sources.
I want to be sure that DC gets time from the PDC, but every time I run a "w32tm /query /source" I see a different time source, rather than the PDC.
    I used:
    net stop w32time
    w32tm /unregister
    w32tm /register
    net start w32time
    w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update
    net stop w32time
    net start w32time
but still I see the old time source or "local clock..."
How can I force the tie synchronization between DCs and PDC?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Do you have any progresses by now?
If the present PDC emulator role was transferred, then there are extra steps that need to be done, please refer to this article below:

  • My ipad was in the process of updating (ios7) while at the same time syncing with my laptop.  suddenly the screen turned black and after few seconds the new itune icon  appeared on the screen.  the same icon appears even after i reset it.

I was updating my ipad (ios7) while syncing with my laptop.  suddenly the screen turned black and seconds later a huge itunes icon appeared on the screen.  the same icon appears and not the usual interface even after resetting it several times.

  • First time Sync with iPad qustions

Hi everyone. I just got home with my new iPad, and after plugging into iTunes I go through the processes. At the point of "set up your iPad" screen I get two options:
'Set up as new iPad' and 'Restore from the back up of:' and there is a drop down menu with my iPhone and iPod listed.
At the top of these choices there is a message that reads: "An iPad has been previously snyced with this computer"
There has never been a iPad synced with this computer. I would like all of my music synced with the iPad, but I don't want to loose on my phone either.
    What to do?
    Thanks

I synced as NEW iPad and all is well. The option to sync all content, ie music, photos etc was there and it is all now on my ipad.

  • Please help troubleshoot why SM-SRE WAAS module can't time sync with NTP server

I have a remote WAAS site where a SM-SRE-900 module is plugged in a 2945 router. Everything is fine except the module can't sync its time to the NTP server. Its NTP was configured right and it can reach the NTP server with no problem. There's no authentication configured. But somehow it can't associate with the NTP server. I have tried manual NTP sync, but it failed too.
The same NTP server and config is also used for many other WAAS site and the CM. They are all fine. I'm running WAAS 4.2.3 build 7. The module isn't showing any other alarms.
Here is some show outputs and the manual NTP sync result. I noticed its poll is only 64 seconds while all other sites are showing 1024 seconds.
    waas1#sh ntp status
    ntp enabled
    ntp authentication disabled
    server list:
    Server           Key
    10.0.0.1         -
remote           refid      st t when poll reach   delay   offset  jitter
    ==============================================================================
    10.0.0.1        66.96.98.9       3 u   43   64  377   16.828  2359370 2421.24
    waas1#ntp 10.0.0.1
16 Dec 22:06:20 ntpdate[9835]: bind() fails: Permission denied
Failed to set software clock using NTP server 10.0.0.1

What the SRE-900 have as it's time?  Use the show clock command.  Does it match within a few minutes of ntp already, if not, and if this is not the first first clock set out of the box, then ntp sync might fail.
You might try to manually set the clock correctly (set clock ... something), then see if the ntp server will sync.

  • Finder has got out of sync with system clock?

For some reason, the system clock is reading the correct time, but the times indicated in Finder for "Date Modified" for every file or app are all wrong.
For example, at 11:45PM (as indicated by the clock in the menu bar) I installed OnyX for the first time, but when I look at the newly-installed app itself in the Applications folder in Finder, in the Date Modified column it says "Today 11:23PM". Also, various different apps and files have identical Date Modified times - several have 12:12PM, several have 8:08AM, and many have 4:16PM.
Two more confirmers that there's a problem - I just created a new folder at 12:35AM, and immediately went to look at it in the Finder - its Date Modified is "Today 12:00AM". And when I start up Plex, its own on-screen clock says "12:00AM" when the clock in the menu bar says 12:40AM.
I've zapped the PRAM and forced a Spotlight reindex, but they've made no difference. Any suggestions?

Is the correct Time Zone set for your region of use?
Is the Time set to be coordinated with a network time server?
These are two basic things that could go wrong. There may
be others. I'm not sure at this moment what they may be.
You may have to see if your use of OnyX has somehow
changed the basic system settings; or maybe you did
not use the section most likely in OnyX to be helpful.
Or something else is acting up.
(Looking into my Date Time panel now has me wondering,
since I never look into there. It just works, usually!)
    Good luck & happy computing!
