CMS Ports - Confusion

Hi,
I have the setup below
When installing BI 4 I want to understand something about ports and what checks need to be carried out prior to install.
The SQL Server is installed first with empty databases setup for Audit and CMS. I have then on BI4_SERVER setup ODBC connection to the databases so i can provide this information in the install.
As default BI 4 uses port 6400 to connect to the CMS (as I understand). In the example above - this would be SQL_SERVER 6400.
- If I try to (prior to install of application BI_SERVER but after the empty database install) telnet to SQL_SERVER 6400. It gets refused. Do I need to setup anything for the database to listen to port 6400?
- If I try to (prior to install of application BI_SERVER but after the empty database install) telnet to BI4_SERVER 6400. It gets refused. Do I need to setup anything for the database to listen to port 6400? The reason for this second question is because in the install logs when i try and install BI 4 i get the following error
*#*_*FWM 20030|Could not reach CMS 'BI_SERVER:6400'. Specify the correct host and port and check for network issues. (FWM 20030)|Could not reach CMS 'BI_SERVER:6400'. Specify the correct host and port and check for network issues. (FWM 20030)*_*#*
- The last question I have is that does the BI 4 application just use port 6400 on the "BI4_SERVER" and then use the ODBC connection to connect to SQL_SERVER. In turn we dont actually use the port 6400 on the SQL_SERVER
Any assistance would be grateful to clear my understanding on this.
Thanks,

Hi,
If SQL server is installed on the different server then default port  (1433) needs to be open between Sql server CMS DB to BO APP server. If you have bound SQL server DB with different port then same needs to be open  from Sql Server DB to BO APP server.
Once you setup the database and for to check the port status use telnet command on BO App server and try to see if SQL server DB port is opened or not.
After that create ODBC connection on BO APP server and if ODBC connection is not successful then in ODBC connection screen enter the SQL server full name along with port name or try with IP address & port name. e.g sqlservername.xxx.xx,1433
6400 is the default port for CMS and 6410 is the default port for SIA same you can see at the time of BO installation.
For the client system connectivity with BO server tomcat port 8080 and CMS port 6400 needs to open.
refer attached link for BO installation with SQL server DB.

  • Virtual WLC Ports Confusion -or- ADDING ports to the vWLC

I am a struggling with configuring a virtual wireless controller (vWLC).
I am working with the newest vWLC, 8.0.100.0
I currently own an elderly 2504 WLC with 4 ports. (four physical interfaces on the box)
On this 2504, I use one port for the management of the WLC and for WLC to communicate with the APs.
The APs are on the same network as the 2504. The other port is the interface that all my wireless traffic from the clients use.
Now with this vWLC, the virtual machine has two network interface, but once I get to a point that I am able to login to the vWLC, I only see one 'port'. According to this posting, I am suppose to take the service port and point it too a dummy virtual switch or a 'Black Hole' https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/12098556/vwlc-getting-started-key-points-and-common-issues.
Okay, I've done this and it works, but it not what I am accustomed to.
I enjoy having the web console of the WLC and the AP on separate networks from the wireless clients.
To complicate things my desire is for this new vWLC and my 2504 to work together.
I want over time to migrate APs from the 2504 to the vWLC without re-addressing them.
Can I add "ports" to my vWLC controller? Do I need to rethink my wireless infrastructure?
I am confused and am seeking your help, advice, suggestions, opinions and flames.

I think you need to re-look at your wireless design. I would prefer the 2504 over a vWLC, but that's me. I would not of separated the ports also on the WLC.  No real reason to, to be honest. Keep AP's on a seperate subnet and the traffic to and from the WLC is tunneled using capwap. Breaking up ports was an old design to be honest and that was also done back them with the 4400's. You have to also look at the pro's and con's of FlexConnect AP's vs local mode.  I never create an ap manager interface on the newer WLC's. I have always kept the dynamic ap manager in the managemt. Traffic is tunneled and you control user traffic when it leaves the WLC.

  • Crystal Reports - WCS (Web Component Server) and CMS login confusion

    Hi,
I reinstalled the WCS after trying to restart the various servers/services for Crystal and having the Event ID 34400:
    -Original Problem-
The description for Event ID ( 34400 ) in Source ( Crystal_WebConnector ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: assert failure in file (Y:\backend\WebAppServer\wsconnector\src\isapi\workerpool.cpp) at line 94.  (false : Request failed with code 3 and error message Communication failed with all configured Web Component Servers because they are disabled or not currently running. If this problem continues, please contact the system administrator.)..
-Current Problem (after uninstalling and reinstalling WCS - yuck)-
Anyway, now I'm unable to log back into the CMS through the WCS  (See screenshot:   <a href="http://www.picsaway.com/view/crystalproblm-95f6e20632.jpg">http://www.picsaway.com/thumbs/crystalproblm-95f6e20632.jpg</a>  )
Is it definitely the same username and password on the right box as used in the left box?  I don't know what the password is (and have asked a colleague but received no response yet).  The CMS is running on the same computer as the WCS so I was hoping not to have to authenicate via WindowsNT/Enterprise/LDAP (the 3 options).
So.. I'm sorry for the ramble but I've made a problem worse trying to fix it and am not sure where to go from here.
    Thanks,
    Hew

  • Ports confusion

    Hi,
I have some mess in ports and I don´t know where I have to search. In inst. profile I have:
    icm/server_port_0 is 8000
    icm/HTTP/j2ee_0 is 50000
When I call transtaction SOLMAN_SETUP, url is created well with port 8000.
IMG Documentation in SOLMAN_SETUP is correct too with port 8000.
In Initial Configuration, step 3 J2EE Configuration - Start J2EE Configuration is correct port 50000.
But, if I want to make Diagnostics Configuration in Basic Configuration, system create bad port 8100 and automatic configuration end with:
SOAP:1.023 SRT: Processing error in Internet Communication Framework: ("ICF Error when receiving the response: ICM_HTTP_CONNECTION_FAILED")
I did it manual and re-write to correct 50000 port.
In Managed System Configuration I have the same problem. When I select system,
choose Configure system, port is OK (8000).
In second step Check Prerequisites I execute Diagnostics Prerequisites. In logs tab in Column Details is link to dynpro with bad 8000 port. Correct is 50000.
And second question. Which effects cause modification BI Authorization Concept to u201CObsolete Concept with RSR Authorization Objectsu201D in BW system?
    Thanks for help.
    J.M.D

    Hello Jaromir,
For the ports needed in a Solution Manager system, you can check the security guide of Solution Manager at http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Solution Manager 7 EHP1
For the second question, I suggest that you post it to a BW forum.
    Best regards,

I just noticed the boe_upgrade_output.xml file that all the directories show the path to my original Business Objects XI R2, when I specified a different directory.  Just a little confused by this.

  • Cloning a test CMS from a Production environment - process?

Hi there - I am attempting to clone a test environment from a production CMS system database.
    ENVIRONMENT
    BO Version: XI3.1
    O/S: Linux
    Web Server: JBOSS 4.3
    Database platform: Oracle 10g
    BOXI SETUP
    1. BOXI environment type on Production (clustered with two nodes.)
*. Linux servernames for each BOXI node=Prod100 and Prod 101.
*. JBOSS ports on both nodes=15000. CMS port on both nodes=6400.
    *. Database Sid=BOCMS@PROD
    2. BOXI environment type on Perf (clustered with two nodes)
*. Linux servernames for each BOXI node=Perf100 and Perf 101.
*. JBOSS ports on both nodes=15100.
*. CMS port on both nodes=6400.
    *. Database Sid=BOCMS@PERF
    Process and requirement
For each project, as part of performance testing, we copy the production database (CMS / system database) in order to clone it. The idea is that we have a copy of production which we can then use for performance testing. We do not need to rebuild the BOXI 3.1 server (that remains there), but we need to rebuild system database. In version five we would copy the BO_REPADMIN schema into the PERF database and then change the connections in Supervisor. Can this process also be done in XIR3.1 ?
    Options considered so far
    1. The DBAs recommended just copying the BOXI CMS / System Database tables from PROD to the PERF database. My question is - don't we then need to change the settings in the CMS database (PERF) to somehow so point to the correct physical servers / correct SIA etc.? Could I just alter th FRS references and use the cmsdbsetup.sh to alter all the details or are there other steps required (manally altering ccm.config) ?
    2. Copying the CMS from the PROD to the PERF CMS schema. However it seems like this is not an option as the Admin guides stipulates:
"However, you cannot change the BusinessObjects Enterprise installation path, operating system, and machine name"
As the installation path for the BOXI performance environment is different to production and they reside on different physical machines it sounds to me that this isn't an option, right?
    3. Use the cmsdbsetup.sh script - create a blank new CMS on the PERF database then migrate all production objects from PROD to PERF using the Import Wizard.
Could anyone recommend further options? Thanks in advance.

    Hi;
Can any one explain the detaild process about Operating level snapshot to prepare a test setup from a production databaseMainly; We are using IBM disk and our disk team take snapshot of disk and we can work on those snapshot than storage team again revert back system orginal state.
As you can see its performed by storage team contact wiht your vendor.
If you dont have storage team than I suggest see my below post:

  • Which ports does Webi Rich CLient use to connect to Universe etc..

    Hello together,
we have the problem that we cannot run Rich Client from computers outside our network - so which ports does webi Rich Client use to connect to BO Serverl?.
It will always say universe not found. Login to rich client and everything else is possible.
It's not an authorisations problem, inside the network people can run the programs fine.
    Thank you

    Hi,
i assume you have enable CMS port on the firewall, apart from this you need to enable IFRS and Connection Server port also.
    Regards,
    Ramu.

  • Assigning static port address

    Hello All,
We are having a standalone BOE server. I have a doubt about assigning static port addresses to servers. We had a standard deployment of BusinessObjects 4.0 SP2. Our admin has assigned static request port address to APS, CMS, FRS, Crystal report servers and Dashboard server instead of using "Auto assign".
Does it necessary to assign static port address to these servers and does it necessary to open these ports on firewall?
What are the advantages of assigning static port address instead of using "Auto assign"?
As per my understanding, request port of APS, FRS and other servers are used to communicate those with CMS. And CMS and all other servers are hosted on the same server. Then why do we need to open those ports on firewall in a server.
    Appreciate your help and suggestions.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Aashutosh

    Hi,
if you dont have a Firewall in between your Client PCs and the BOE Server you dont need to assign static ports. You only need this if a Firewall is controlling the communication between these two parts.
Most of the Services communicate only with the CMS - thats correct.
But if you use the BI LaunchPad only for vieweing and creating Reports like WebI you need to open the Port 8080 for the Application Server.
If you are using Front- End Clients for viewing and or editing Reports you need to open the CMS Port 6400 and assign a static Port to the IFRS and OFRS and open these ports too.
    Regards
    -Seb.

    Hi,
although the binding order of the network cards (2 NIC present) was correct and the hostname was present in the host files there seemed to a problem for XI 3.0 by the name resolution. I had to add the hostname explicitely in the command line arguments of the CMS ("-port <hostname>") so that it can start. During the installation process I had to start the CMS manually in order for the installation process to complete succesfully.

  • Re-create current datasource -- SIA port

running Windows clustered BOE XI3.1.. have re-created current datasource option in CCM of SIA agent.. This is in QA environment.. recreated ok and was able change default cms port to 6401 but SIA port was set at 6410 and it appears I do not have rights to change ???
    Bryan

Denis, I am running windows BOE XI3.1
Server A. I stopped SIA. went into config tab and re-created current datasource. all is ok at this point
I then went and started SIA and updated objects.. again no problem.. i did have option of selecting default cms port that I changed to 6401..
now when the SIA is running or stopped when I go into config tab SAI port is defaulted to 6410 and I can not change it..
    any ideas would be appriciated

  • USR0013 , Firewall / Port errors while logging in to Designer - VPN

[repo_proxy 13] SessionFacade::openSessionLogon with user info has failed(Transport error: Communication failure.
    (hr=#0x80042a01)
we are experiencing issues (err mentioned above) while logging in to our desinger through VPN on XIR2 windows env. when we try connecting to designer our ports are getting blocked in the firewall.  the firewall log shows that ports ranging >1024 are being blocked (couple of instances we identified it as 1074,1075, 1076 1058,1059 etc...) (6400 is allowed, telnet works fine)
the ports show ranging from 1058 --> 1074 and keeps changing on every log on. (this way our admins are unable to foresee and allow the port no.s )
when referred to admin document (BusinessObjects Enterprise Deployment and Configuration Guide), it says
    -->
Changing the default server port numbers During installation, the CMS is set up to use default port numbers. The default CMS port number is 6400. This ports fall within the range of ports reserved by Business Objects (6400 to 6410) Thus, BusinessObjects Enterprise communication on these ports should not conflict with third-party applications that you have in place. (Although unlikely, it is possible that your custom applications use these ports. If so, you can change the default CMS port.) The Web Component Adapter is not a server. However, you can configure its listening port by changing the connection.listeningPort context  parameter in web.xml. See u201CConfiguring the Web Component Adapteru201D on page 108.
When started and enabled, each of the other BusinessObjects Enterprise servers dynamically binds to an available port (higher than 1024), registers with this port on the CMS, and then listens for BusinessObjects Enterprise requests. If necessary, you can instruct each server component to listen on a specific port (rather than dynamically selecting any available port).
On Windows, you view and modify server command lines with the CCM. The Command field appears on each serveru2019s Properties tab. On UNIX, you view and modify server command lines (also referred to as launch strings) in the ccm.config file, which is installed in the bobje directory.
This table summarizes the command-line options as they relate to port usage for specific server types.
    based on the above information
    1. unable to figure out where to do changes in windows. ofcourse in Unix you have a config file to do the changes.
Any information or update on this is appreciated.

there are a few way to do the NAT on 8.3+, one involves adding NAT to the objects (as you have done in your config). the other involves, making the objects and just putting in a NAT statement into the config (more intuitive to me):
I recommend taking the NAT config off the object, and then doing this:
    1. define your objects, LAN, WAN, Server, etc (with no NAT features)
    2. go to the ASDM | Firewall | NAT, and then start defining your NAT's there:
source WAN, dst LAN, source IP = any, dest IP = Public IP
translated IP = inside IP, source port = keep it 8080, or change it to something else if needed.
    3. now that you have those items, you have to do the "8.3+ stupid ACL," as I like to refer to it, as I think its a bad implementation. Goto the _outside_ interface ACL, and then allow the 8080 traffic from any to the _INSIDE_ ip of the server, not the _OUTSIDE_ IP.
Sorry for the generalizations, but the config is pretty long. the above steps to me are the most intuitive - at least as much as you can get. the item 3 is still a sore spot with me on the 8.3+ FW OS.
Lastly, regarding your VPN traffic, define an ACL on the outside interface to allowing the VPN traffic through, pretending your VPN IP's are traversing through the outside interface to the inside. Or you can enable this command to have ASA do the ACL automatically:
    sysopt connection permit-vpn
Then you have to create a NAT0 (no-nat) using the NAT GUI in ASDM. essentially you keep the IP's unchanged in the NAT configuration line (and it does no-nat). its pretty intuitive with the ASDM GUI.

  • Xcelsius error: Unable to load URL while using QAAWS on XI 3.0.

    Hi Experts,
I am getting "unable to load url" in xcelsius 2008 while importing a qaaws url.
After all the testing below are my observations:-
    1) This has something to do with QAAWS.
    2) When I logged into QAAWS and tried accessing the newly created url from the browser. It gave this error " can not communicate to the server mcc69u01:6400" but intrestingly the cms port is located at 6464 and not 6400.
    3) For every other application like infoview and cmc it picks the correct port i.e. 6464.
    4) Server is present on a UNIX box.
    5) I read somewhere that I need to make changes in the dsws.properties file under war files folder. There I enetered "domain= mcc69u01:6464" and restarted TOMCAT.
    6) After making this change I was unable to even log into QAAWS as it gave the error 02718 " you are not authorized to create query".
    7) After reverting the changes now I am able to log into QAAWS and create new queries but the same problem persist.
    8) TOMCAT is listening to port 8088 for our environment.
    9) Tried the same thing from a different client machine with fairly new BO XI 3.0 client installation(same server) but no success.
I believe somehow QAAWS is not able to connect to the correct port 6464 and that is the reason for this issue.
Could anyone suggest what I should do???
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Anshul

    hi Anshul,
The QAAWSservletprincipal is not related to how you log into the server when creating queries
It is used when the queries are actually running, or when you are trying to load the query to a tool like Xcelsius. I had the same unable to load error and it was caused by the QAAWSservletprincipal being set to concurrent licence when my server was all named users.
I think the issue you are seeing is more likely a bug caused by hardcoded cms port, but I think it is worth ruling out.

  • Need help setting up BI Mobility for an iPad

I'm brand new to everything BusinessObjects, as we have just purchased and installed BOE Platform 4.0.  I'm trying to get report mobility up and running on an iPad.  I have tried to follow the steps in the 403 Guide, but got stuck on the step "Creating an SAP BI URL."
It says to create a URL that lets users have this pre-populated parameters for a connection, it needs to be in this format:
    sapbi://addconnection?name=<ConnectionName>&server_url=<ServerName/IP:Port>&cms=
    <ServerName/IP:Port>&authType=<AuthenticationType>&default=<yes/no>&user=<User
    Name>&password=<UserPassword>&save_password=<yes/no>
    My questions are:
    1. Where do I even type in the above config string to generate the pre-configured connection?
    2. One of the parameters in the config statement is "server_url".  What is that, and how do I generate/locate the server_url for my system.
Sorry if these questions are overly basic, but I've got to start somewhere!  Thanks for any help you can provide!
    Dustin

    Hi Dustin ,
I guess your query is already answered in the page you viewed your URL.
The URL needs to be put in the browser window on your ipad.
Also, the serverurl simply means the servername or ip address of your BO machine with port number as 8080(tomcat default) while for cms= servername and cms port (6400)
Select the authentication type default (enterprise)
