I have configured the coding mask as follows
  :000/0/xxx/000/000
my project id is 4 char long
when i created the project with id abcd:001
my first wbs element abcd:001/1
my first wbs element under the first wbs element is : abcd:001/1/1
my second wbs element is : abcd:001/1/2
this way well right upto 9th wbs element abcd:001/1/1/9

Dear Shiv
The coding mask should be enough to cater ur requirement. But in your case coding mask is allowing only one digit in the first level of the WBS Element, i.e. u can create only nine coded WBS Elements in the first level. If u want more then change your code to something like "000/00/xxx".

    dear experts:
i have 2 questions regarding Coding Mask:
i have created the project coding mask: D-XXX-00.00.00.00.00.0
in fact i tried to make it aliitle bit longer by ading extra 4 charecters 0.00 to be this way: D-XXX-00.00.00.00.00.00.00
but the system didnt accept this and issued the error message no: CJ627 (Edit screen is "4" too long)

    Hi,
You cannot create coding mask that is more than 24 characters long. Read SAP Help and find out more about this.

  • Project Coding Mask - Error

    Hi experts,
I'm trying to create a new coding mask, with letter M, but I'm getting the error message:
Projects/WBS elements with the editing mask M still exist.
I've checked tables PROJ / PROJS and PRPS / PRPSS and I haven't find any Project or WBSE starting with M.
    What else should I check?
    Thanks

yes, most likely the version profile is set to create wbs version released (or other version) and even if you have deleted all entries from PRPS etc.. entries of the version still remain.
you need to delete all version data... stored in tables VSPRPS_CN & VSPROJ_CN
you may use sapnote to delete version data. or delete  direct in table.

Now when i go for defining Project Coding Mask by making following new entry in the spro
example "PR     .0000000000.00.00.00.00     Dairy Process Project

How i can resolve this issue.
    Thanks & Regards,

Your coding mask is exceeding the limit of 24 characters(including special characters). Reduce some characters to make it 24 or less then 24.

  • Error in Coding mask

    Dear Experts,
I have a one issue in Coding mask.My mask is "PSXP-XXX-00-00-00-00-00",For this mask im going to create wbs elements like CJ20nproject Definationwbs overviewCreate Wbs element, for this im not getting any error. But Im going to create Cj20nproject DefinationRight click on project definationcreate wbs.. In this scnerio the wbs element is not picking up the running number [Example:When im going to create level 1 wbs element through overview screen it will pick up "PSXP-001-01" and working fine,When im going to create WBS element through right click it is picking up like this "PSXP-001-1"].May i know the reasons please..It will very helpful for me..

    Dear Pradeep,
                   Thanks for your quick response...
But my question is Project defination>wbs overview>create Wbs.Here it will pickup automatically running number(means 01).As you said numaric system it will not consider the zeroes,I agree..But it should not take When im going to create WBS through Overview screen right..In my case it is taking  automatically running number automatically..
Second,In your version we will not create not morethan 9 wbs elements in that level right, then what is the use of taking "00"?.
If im wrong please correct me...

  • How to create a validation for the project coding mask

    Hi,
Would just like to ask how to create a validation for the project coding mask wherein the WBS elements hierarchy will be checked against the template saved. For example,
    project coding mask is XXXX-XXXXX-XX-X-X-X-00-X
mother WBS should be XXXX-XXXXX-X and lower level WBS would be XXXX-XXXXX-XX.
The validation should not allow a mother WBS to be XXXX-XXXXX-XX.
How can we go about this?

    Hi Jacquiline Bersamin,
You can use validation with the combination of the level and the coding mask.
    In the validation:
Pre requisite: WBS level = 1
    Validation: Prps-posid = prps-posid :1-12:
    Message : Error
If required you can give the parameters for your detail error message.
Please let me know if this does not work.
    Thanks

  • Deleting Project Coding Mask

    Hi,
I want to delete one of coding mask but Iu2019m getting the below error message even though Iu2019ve rename all the Z Projects to start with character u201CPu201D. If I execute CN41 report I cannot see all the u201CZu201D Projects but the projects exist in PRPS table. I there a way I can remove all the Z project in PRPS table?
Projects/WBS elements with the editing mask Z still exist.
    Message no. JP011
    Diagnosis
There are still projects or WBS elements with edit mask Z in the system. Therefore you cannot change them.
    System Response
    Processing stopped.
    Procedure
All projects or WBS elements that still use this edit mask must be archived before you can change or delete the edit masks.
    Regards
    Sandile

This is because the in PRPS table if you select deletion indicator = x then you will see all Z projects

  • How to add new coding mask into productional system

    Hi,
A new division is entering our system and has a business requirement for a project coding mask C-00000.00.00.00.00 to handle capital investment projects. We would like this proces to make the good example for rolling out project models to the rest of the organisation (and for making new coding masks in the future)
However, we are facing a problem. Until now only the IT department has been using the project system and they have not had the need for mulitlevel projects or project models.
IT projects today is entered as free texts like:
    Definition ITINTCOM001-S1003
    WBS       ITINTCOM001-S1003
with no regard to the coding. Logistics integration is used via networks and MM-SRV.
I have read in another issue in the forum that I was supposed to be able to enter additional coding masks as long as they did not interfear with existing coding masks. So I tried to transport a new coding mask into the system but it created an error message CJ 610 "Entry length is incorrect B-00000.00.00.00" with a reference to the coding (there are no existing projects using B- or any other coding mask). It also made a system dump when a wbs was searched via F4.
So I removed the coding again and the system went back to normal.
Since go-live is closing in I would be highly appreciative if  anybody had a suggestion on how to solve this issue?
    BR
    Allan Albrecht

In the Node SPRO (T code OPSK) ie., Define Special Characters for Projects, mention '1' in PL field- Length of key for coding (as in your case the key is 'B') and don't check the check box SL. Also don't check the check box 'Edit'.
For reasons, refer the F1 help on these fields.
Save this and new coding mask in same request and transport it. Try this and let me us know if it solves the problem.
You can also refer to note 520944

  • Validation Rule for the coding mask and project profile

    Hi,
I have two project profile and two coding masks. I want one project profile to be only used by defined coding mask for that profile.
So i have maintained a validation rule as follow -
    Prerequisite - Project Def. :1-3: = 'A5M'
Check - Project Profile = 'ABC'
And if the above check is failed then give me an error message.
Now i am trying to add the project profile other than 'ABC' for the coding mask starting with 'A5M', but still the system is not giving me an error message configured and allowing me to save the project.
Is there any other thing which is tobe activated other than assigning the validation rule in project profile and clicking the Autom. validation check box in OPSA.
Request to confirm share the views.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Try the following, this must work.
    Prerequisite
    PROJ-PROFL = "ABC"
    Check
    PROJ-PSPID: 1-3: = "A5M"
    Message
Project profile & Coding mask wronly assigned
Repeat the same for other project profiles also.
Enter this validation in your project profile. Check in "Auto Validation"
    In transactinal data,
Enter project def and select the wrong profile. when you save the project system will show you the error message.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Coding mask problem

    Hi All,
I am facing the problem in coding mask.
I have existing project coding  mask let say abcd :000/0/0/00 like this. here i am using project id of 4 char and remaing 20 for coding.
i will like to use project id as abc and remain 21char for coding but
system is not allowing me to create new error says abc already present.
then i tried with different char like xyz but still it is restricting me to use 20 digit only in coding mask
what is  problem ? how can we solve it
    regards
    shiv

    Hi Martina,
I have one doubt.Suppose we configure Length of coding key= 1, define a coding mask A-0000 and create a operative project A-0001. Then sytem doesnot allow us to change the length as operative project exists. Now if we have had length 2 earlier (instead of 1) then system will allow us to change the length to 1,3,4 or 5. If we change the length to 3,4,5 we can go back to length 2/1 later. But if we change length to 1 then our existing project will get assigned to existing coding mask and system will not allow to change the length later on.
Does this mean that, though we have 1 to 5 options for coding key length, once we have selected a particular length and have coding mask of that particular length, create a operative project with that mask, then we cant change the length of coding key? In short we need to decide the length only for once, at the start of implementation and cant change it once we have operative projects. Or you know any method to go back to earlier key length in case opeartive projects exist?
    Request you to please comment.

  • FMEA Coding Mask

FMEA Coding Mask is set to automatic mode in configuration and I expect system to duplicate the number from higher level element.  The result shows that coding mask has no effect at all.
Has anyone already implemented coding mask in FMEA successfully?  Please guide how to activate it.
    Thanks
    Paul
I realize my FMEA structure cannot be cater in coding mask as there are 7 levels but header level already taken up 18 characters.  Hence has to manually control the coding.

    Raj-
Apply OSS notes 1344009 for missing texts, 1356415 for german words in english version, 1365089 for overlap of person responsible.
And also browse the service market place for relevant oss notes base don the application qm-pt-fa, hardly you have 76 - most of them you need to get FMEA function correctly eventhough you may not be using all FMEA functionalities.
The coding mask is like the standard sap functionaloty , once you maintain the coding mask irrespective of the way you enter the identification number system automatically convert it to the format you have maintained in the mask. I tried it, but working only for header part of the fmea. did not try for other lower level items. I did not dig into that as we have decided to go for automatic sequential number assignment. just explore it you want to use it. And also SAP released a note for this to correct some errors.
    Thanks,
    Ram

  • Coding Mask Change

    Hi All
I m trying to change the digits on my coding mask for the Project ID, but I keep getting the error - CJ611.
I went into the OSS note 453280 but havent been able to find a suitable solution.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks much
    RS

The note on Wiki states that you can only:
    1) Change a numeric section to an alpahmumeric section of the same length
    2) Extend the coding mask with an alphanumeric section
In the case provided by you, you are trying change the length of the coding mask (there are other voilations as well). You cannot change the coding mask as proposed by you through standard SAP practices. However, a workaround exists (as stated in the note):
    1) Run the report ZZADJUSTPOSID of note 453280 to adjust the project and WBS element numbers as much as possible in background. Some dialogue may, however, nevertheless occur.
    2) Run the report ZVERSION_UPDATE of note 616732 to adapt the project and WBS element numbers in the project versions involved accordingly.
Please go through these steps, SAP notes and the wiki document (the part about testing this solution first).

    Ammar

  • Project Coding mask not editable

Cannot make this change to the editing mask (see long text)
    Message no. CJ611
    Diagnosis
You want to change an existing coding mask, or want to create a new mask and have chosen a key for which a coding mask already exits.
You can only change existing masks as follows:
You can change a numeric section to an alpahmumeric section of the same length.
You can extend the coding mask with an alphanumeric section.
    System Response
    The function was not executed.
    Procedure
Change the coding mask as described above or create a new coding mask with a key that does not yet exist.

  • Project coding mask problem

    Hi friends,
    My coding mask is: 00/XXXX.X.XX.XX.XX.XX.XX
The First six characters are for the Project definition.
First I created the Project definition, eg: 13/0000.
Then I created the top level WBS element which will be the same as the Project definition, 13/0000.
Then I created the 9 second level WBS elements (limit is 9 as per the coding mask) eg: 13/0000.1, 13/0000.2 and upto 13/0000.9
Then I want to create some 20 WBS elements under the first WBS element (13/0000.1). At this time the system is allowing me to create the first 9 WBS elements, i.e, 13/0000.1.1, 13/0000.1.2 and so on upto 13/0000.1.9. According to the coding mask the system should allow me to create upto 99 WBS elements at this level. But this is not happening. I am surprised. I want to know why this is happening. Please help me out.
    regards
    Pratap

Sorry for the delay in reply. There was some problem in SDN website here as a result of which I was not able to post my reply.
In the meanwhile I found out the reason for this problem.
    My coding mask was 11/XXXX.X.XX.XX.XX.XX.XX
Since it is 'X', the project creation was not being allowed to create more than 9 WBS elements.
I then tried changing to 11/XXXX.0.00.00.00.00.00
    Now it is working fine.
    Thanks for your support guys.
But I have one more doubt now.
I have the old Coding (11/XXXX.X.XX.XX.XX.XX.XX) in my quality server. How do I make changes and transport it now? I may face problem since I have already created projects in the quality server with the old coding mask. Please sugget.
    regards

  • Can I create a Coding Mask without special characters?

    Good morning,
Our client wants a project code with the following masks:
    XX0000-0000.
Please advise how to proceed with it.
    Best regards,
    Nat

    Hi Nat,
u cant have both numeric and alphanumeric in single word "XX0000". U can make the same as "XXXXXX"
and there should be a specific project ID and Project ID and coding mask should be separated by a special character.
u can make the coding mask as explained below
       Project ID     CODING MASK
    1)  A               :XX-0000-0000
    2) A               :XXXXXX-0000
