Coldfusion MX 7 Administrator
I've installed CF MX7 onto my Win7 Ult machine, and reached a point where I'm lost.
I am in the datasources setup screen (Data & Services > Datasources > Microsoft Access), and I have gotten this prompt:
Unable to update the NT registry.
Variable DRIVERPATH is undefined.
When I received the above message, I was adding a datasource called pd, a 2003 MS Access database. This is what I have:
CF Data Source Name
Database File
System Database File
Use Default Username
ColdFusion Username
ColdFusion Password
(16-character limit)
Description
I do not have any database system file, that I am aware of, which is for security.
I cannot go any further with adding pd to my listing.
Please help!
We're talking about the Developer Edition, Adam, which installed successfully on my home computer. Also, I opened the Developer Edition's Administrator successfully, and the message was the following:
I don't think you get what I mean. This is not a ColdFusion problem, it's that Access ain't supported on 64-bit Windows. There are no 64-bit drivers for Access, so on a 64-bit Windows install, Access is not supported.
You can horse around trying to get a 32-bit driver and try to get it working, but that falls outwith the scope of these forums (it certainly falls outwith the scope of my knowledge on the topic, too ;-)
You might want to read this:

Or, like I said, do the googling.
But at the end of the day, this is an Access/Windows issue, not a CF issue.

My OBDC 3.51Navigate to your lib directory within your CF install, find neo-security.xml, make a backup copy of it, then open it in a text editor and set the value for admin.security.enabled to false. Then, restart CF. You should then be able to access the CF Administrator without any password at all. You can then reenable and reset the password.

Coldfusion MX 7 Administrator Access
Initially fine, the CF MX7 administrator access stopped a
month or so ago. I've a feeling its due to some security update on
Windows XP, Internet Explorer 7 or the virus software NOD32 but I
don't seem to be able to pinpoint it. Reinstalled the Coldfusion
Server and now even this doesn't work, something is preventing the
call to the Coldfusion Server.
I've shifted work to my laptop (works fine) which has a
similar setup except for the Virus software.
If someone has come across something similar I'd be obliged
for a pointer. If not, I will post the problem when I sort it - its
a time waster. That ISP sounds inexcusably inept.
What is their name (so that I can ensure that I and my
clients never, ever, use them)?
You can work around this, but if they will not even supply
you with a proper datasource setup, then they will be nothing but
trouble as a host.
Better to switch providers than start what is sure to be a
long round of needless teeth-pulling. -

CarlHi Carl,
I have not seen CF6 for a long time. I do not know why that is failing for you. Looks like you are using Windows XP. Perhaps you would be better off installing current version CF9 which is supported on XP:
http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion-standard/tech-specs.html
There might be some other valid reasons to install CF9 versa CF6 eg being on Java 6 rather and 2, better Adobe support.
HTH, Carl. -
Multiple Coldfusion Administrator Instances using SSL.
We have installing Coldfusion 9 as multiserver mode with the following configuration
Web Server: Apache/2.2.14
Java Container: Jrun 4 as provided with Coldfusion 9
Operating System: Solaris 10 (SPARC)
Our plan is to run a number of instances (about 7 or 8) each running a few applications to provide isolation to crashes etc. I've created several instances and configured isolation as described in http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/Admin/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbf364104-7fc4 .html#WS166820C3-9934-4838-83BA-F8B2B801A083
Our organisational policy recommends that we use encrypted connections where ever possible so we are investigating using SSL to encrypt contections to the Coldfusion Administrators.
I have configured the "Main Coldfusion" (cfusion instance) administrator to be fronted by Apache so the URL is https://servername/cfide/administrator/ However I'm not sure of the best way to manage the other 7 or 8 instances that currently are accessed through URLs that point to the Jrun Web server.
http://servername:8301/cfide/administrator/
http://servername:8302/cfide/administrator/
http://servername:8303/cfide/administrator/
etc....
I've thought of a few options, but wondered if this was something that other people had done.
1) Enable SSL on the Jun Web Server.
This appears the most straight forward. Configure the JRun WebService to use SSL and point it to a TrustStore and a Keystore and supply the Keystore password resulting in the following in the jrun.xml:
<service class="jrun.servlet.http.SSLService" name="WebService">
<attribute name="port">8305</attribute>
<attribute name="keyStore">/usr/local/certs/servername/java/keystore-chain.jks</attribute>
<attribute name="trustStore">/u01/jrun4/lib/trustStore</attribute>
<attribute name="name">WebService</attribute>
<attribute name="bindAddress">*</attribute>
<attribute name="socketFactoryName">jrun.servlet.http.JRunSSLServerSocketFactory</attribute>
<attribute name="interface">*</attribute>
<attribute name="keyStorePassword">**removed**</attribute>
</service>
However when I connect using Firefox I receive the following message. I also get a failure in IE 8
An error occurred during a connection to servername:8305.
Peer reports it experienced an internal error.
(Error code: ssl_error_internal_error_alert)
Adding -Djavax.net.debug=all to the java.args suggests the failure is due to
web_ssl-0, handling exception: java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not generate secret
web_ssl-0, SEND TLSv1 ALERT: fatal, description = internal_error
It appears that this is something others are experiencing the same problem (e.g http://serverfault.com/questions/119624/migrating-to-cf9-trouble-getting-jrun-working-with -ssl)
2) Create separate Apache Virtual Hosts for each CF Administrator Instance.
Create a Apache SSL Virtual host for each instance and configure it to use the Jun instance proxy Service. To reduce management overhead we would run each vhost on a different port number.
For example:
<VirtualHost 192.168.100.50:8443>
ServerAdmin [email protected]
DocumentRoot "/var/web/htdocs/"
ServerName servername.example.com
<IfModule mod_jrun22.c>
JRunConfig Verbose false
JRunConfig Serverstore /u01/jrun4/lib/wsconfig/cfadmin8443/jrunserver.store
JRunConfig Bootstrap 127.0.0.1:51002
</IfModule>
# Normal SSL Certficates stuff, logging etc
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost 192.168.100.50:8444>
ServerAdmin [email protected]
DocumentRoot "/var/web/htdocs/"
ServerName servername.example.com
<IfModule mod_jrun22.c>
JRunConfig Verbose false
JRunConfig Serverstore /u01/jrun4/lib/wsconfig/cfadmin8444/jrunserver.store
JRunConfig Bootstrap 127.0.0.1:51003
</IfModule>
# Normal SSL Certficates stuff, logging etc
</VirtualHost>
Thanks
PeterHi desispeed,
Changes made to default instance (or any individual instance) will not replicate to any other instance. Only while applying updates in the default instance, it prompts you, to apply it on rest of the instances.
The new instances copy the setting from default instance, during their creation. Thus, if you would like to make changes to all the instances in one go, then first make the changes to default instance and then only create the new ones. This is the only way to achieve, what you like to.

How to reference MS Access database in ColdFusion MX 7 on 64-bit Windows
I am migrating customers from:
Windows 2000 Server (fully patched)
Internet Information Services (IIS) 5
ColdFusion 5
to:
Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition (fully patched)
Internet Information Services (IIS) 6 (running in 32-bit
mode)
ColdFusion MX 7 (7.0.2) Standard
Unfortunately, some of these existing customers are still
using Microsoft Access databases instead of SQL Server. Having all
of these existing customers migrate to SQL Server is not yet
practical. On the old Windows 2000 / ColdFusion 5 server, they are
using OLE DB data sources to reference the MS Access databases
using the "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" provider. None are configured
to use ODBC drivers when referencing MS Access or SQL Server.
I have yet to figure out how to get ColdFusion MX 7 to:
- Create a data source that references MS Access databases on
64-bit Windows.
- Reference an existing MS Access data source created with
the 32-bit version of the ODBC Data Source Manager on 64-bit
Windows.
A bit of background information regarding MS Access on 64-bit
Windows:
- At the time of this writing, Microsoft has not
created/released 64-bit drivers for Microsoft Access and it's
unlikely they ever will, for understandable reasons.
- Contrary to seemingly popular belief, the Microsoft Jet 4.0
Database Engine does exist on 64-bit Windows. See the following
regarding version and file location information:
How to obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft Jet
4.0 Database Engine
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239114
- You CAN create MS Access based data sources within 64-bit
Windows, but they have to be made using the 32-bit version of "ODBC
Data Source Manager". I'm assuming these DSNs may only be used by
32-bit applications, but I have not tested that theory.
32-bit data sources:
ODBC Data Source Manager:
%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
Registry location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC
Default file DSN directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ODBC\Data Sources
64-bit data sources:
ODBC Data Source Manager:
%SystemRoot%\system32\odbcad32.exe
Registry location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC
Default file DSN directory:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ODBC\Data Sources
The 64-bit version of "ODBC Data Source Manager" (under
Administrative Tools) only show "SQL Server" and/or "SQL Native
Client" as options when creating new data sources, unless
third-party software is installed that supplies additional drivers.
The 32-bit version of "ODBC Data Source Manager" (by default,
there is no shortcut for this in the Start menu) shows the typical
drivers seen on 32-bit versions of Windows, including SQL Server,
SQL Native Client, Microsoft Access, Excel, FoxPro, Paradox, etc.
When using ColdFusion Administrator in ColdFusion MX 7.0.2 in
64-bit Windows 2003 (IIS is running in 32-bit mode to allow
ColdFusion MX 7 to function at all), two problems are encountered
when dealing with MS Access (and presumably other 32-bit drivers).
In both cases, ColdFusion is trying to reference the registry
location for 64-bit data sources instead of 32-bit:
1. Creating a new data source within ColdFusion
Administrator:
Data Source Name: whatever
Driver: Microsoft Access
CF Data Source Name: whatever
Database file: (physical path to whatever.mdb)
(other settings are irrelvant for this example)
Error generated when submitting:
Unable to update the NT registry.
Cannot open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC
Data Sources: Windows error number 5 occurred.Access is denied.
ColdFusion stores the data source, however a "verify"
generates the following error:
Connection verification failed for data source: whatever
java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC
Driver][ODBC Socket]internal error: Data source name not found and
no default driver specified
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException:
[Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket]internal error:
Data source name not found and no default driver specified
2. Creating the data source using the 32-bit version of "ODBC
Data Source Manager" then trying to reference it with ColdFusion:
ODBC Data Source Manager:
System DSN or File DSN:
Name: whatever
Driver: Microsoft Access Driver (.mdb)
Database: (physical path to whatever.mdb)
(creation is successful within ODBC Data Source Manager)
Reference the above DSN within ColdFusion Administrator:
Data Source Name: whatever
Driver: ODBC Socket
Error generated when submitting:
Error accessing available odbc datasources. - Cannot open
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources:
Windows error 2 occurred. The system cannot find the file specified.
ColdFusion MX 7 can't find the 32-bit data source on 64-bit
Windows because it's looking for it in the wrong registry location.
Can ColdFusion MX 7 be configured to look in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC
instead of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC
on a 64-bit Windows machine?Paul,
Thanks for the insight on this. Regarding the initial problem
I ran into with creating Access based DSNs, very early-on, I
noticed there were two different driver options for Access
displayed within ColdFusion MX 7 Administrator:
Microsoft Access
Microsoft Access with Unicode
For reasons I'm am still baffled over, I somehow completely
forgot about and through the wonders of apparent tunnel vision,
completely overlooked the "Microsoft Access with Unicode" driver
option when I was running through my tests.
At your seemingly-obvious suggestion, I created a data source
using the Microsoft Access with Unicode driver and it worked
perfectly fine with the one customer's web site I'm using for
testing (of course, this is a copy--the production site is still
housed on the old ColdFusion 5 server). This obviously doesn't
actually fix the underlying issue with ColdFusion looking in the
wrong part of the registry on 64-bit Windows, but at least when it
comes to dealing with Access databases, your suggestion of using
the Microsoft Access with Unicode driver appears to be a functional
work-around. So long as there aren't any surprises waiting for me,
hopefully this will also work for the remaining ColdFusion sites I
have to migrate that are using Access databases.
Since you mentioned JDBC drivers in comparison with ODBC, I'm
pointing out a couple of references in case they're helpful to
anyone following this thread:
ColdFusion MX 7 - About JDBC
http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/7/htmldocs/00001736.htm
Types of JDBC technology drivers
http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/driverdesc.html
http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/
I don't actually develop anything in ColdFusion, so I'm
dealing with all of this from a server administration standpoint
since we do have some domain hosting customers that do develop or
at least have existing ColdFusion based sites. I am all
too-familiar with the caveats of using Access in any kind of
production or heavily used environment and have spent years keeping
users away from ODBC. For ColdFusion users, that meant creating OLE
DB DSNs and often having to fix poorly written SQL statements and
fixing ColdFusion date-related values and boolean values (the
common problems encountered when switching CF / MS Access users
from ODBC to OLE DB). I can only recall running into problems with
a single SQL Server based ColdFusion site when migrating from ODBC
to OLE DB. That customer never did get their many coding problems
fixed, so they're the only ones still using ODBC in CF. I have no
idea what'll happen when that one site gets migrated over--if it'll
even work. Obviously a lot of things have changed between
ColdFusion 5 and the MX versions that have come along afterward.
Thanks again for the Access with Unicode driver tip and JDBC
info. It looks like I can finally start moving forward again with
the site migration process.

How to include .jar files in coldfusion code
To Integrate our cfm code with paypal jar files we do the
following steps with our local coldfusion server ,and to run and
integrate the paypal Java SDK jar files, I think we need to do the
same process on the server, can you suggest any thing to do the
following setting for my domain on the server, without setting the
class path in coldfusion administrator.
The ColdFusion application server must be configured to know
the location of the PayPal JAR
files, and your ColdFusion Markup (CFM) pages must be
configured with the absolute path to
the PayPal API certificate for the PayPal API user on whose
behalf the calls are made.
1. Install the PayPal Java SDK “Installing the
SDK”.
2. Copy a subset of the Java SDK JAR files to a location
accessible by the ColdFusion
application server. The JAR files are in SDK_root\lib and
their exact names are as
follows:
– bcmail-jdk14-128.jar
– bcprov-jdk14-128.jar
– paypal_base.jar
– paypal_stubs.jar
sax2.jar
– xerces.jar
– xpp3-1.1.3.4d_b4_min.jar
– xstream.jar-1.1.3.jar
3. With the ColdFusion Application Server Administrator, add
the absolute path of the
location you determined in Step 2 to the Java and JVM
CLASSPATH environment variable.
4. Restart the ColdFusion Application Server.
Suggest me how to include .jar files without setting
classpath.> Suggest me how to include .jar files without setting

Copy them to {CF_HOME}\lib, where {CF_HOME} is, for example,
C:\CFusionMX7. Restart Coldfusion. -
Building & deploying ColdFusion apps via Ant
I'm trying to create a Ant build script for building and
deploying ColdFusion applications as a WAR. I am able to compile
the ColdFusion code, and creating the WAR itself is pretty simple,
but there's two steps I'm not familiar with:
a) How do you generate the applications' web.xml, config.xml,
neo-debug.xml, neo-query.xml, license.properties, etc files that
are needed in the WAR?
b) Is it possible to use Ant to do deploy time configuraton
of the ColdFusion app? For example, setting the database that will
be used.
I have looked at the build.xml that is generated by
ColdFusion MX7's administration tool, but this only does the
compile step and the WAR creation step. The doesn't seem to be any
documented Ant task for the other things I asked about above.
If anyone has done this, I would very much appreciate it if
you could point me in the right direction. Sample ant build files
would be especially appreciated, but even just a clue as to where
to look for the info I need would be very helpful.I've also been looking into this and it appears you can only pre-load apps onto the iPhone that you have made, ie ones you have access to the original .ipa file.
If anyone knows of a way to configure a large deployment of iPhones with a standard app base, Skype, WiFi finder, Units across 20+ iPhones please post it here.
If anyone can save me from downloading each app 60 times it'll be much appreciated. -
Cold fusion 8 and Windows Server 2003 Administrator Login
I cannot seem to login to my coldfusion (trial version)
administrator login after installed successfully on my Windows

It tries to go here which is correct

I attempted to go through IIS through default Web Sites and
browsed over to
http://192.168.10.19/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm
and I now get a "The page cannot be found" display message.
Is there anything special I need to do, perhaps in Web
Service Extentions in IIS or something since I don't see
"Coldfusion" mentioned anywhere, and I can't seem to find any clear
instructions on the Adobe site.
Please help, thanks.You should

Database No connection detection
I remember in the older versions of Coldfusion in the

status of the connections. Is there any CF tag/function that
determines if a database connection is working?

How can I hide the version of ColdFusion showing in COldFusion Administrator
How can I hide the version of coldfusion being shown from the coldfusion administrator login page? Right now I have the Version: 6,1,0,83762 showing.
For security reasons.
If there are known vulnerabilities with a specific version of a software release, you don't want to have someone who is scanning to be able to pull that information and then be able to try known attacks that will increase their chances of compromising your site/application. -
Coldfusion administrator after downloading does not open
After I downloaded Coldfusion8 the 30 day trial version, I am

Is this has to do with IIS or Coldfusion?
I am desperate, since I am new with Coldfusion application.

Coldfusion service hangs when logging into coldfusion administrator
Hi,
After changing the maximum number of connections to 1, I can
no longer enter the coldfusion administrator.
He allows me to enter the password, and then continues, but
after showing only the top frame on the left, the coldfusion
service hangs.
I use coldfusion mx 6.1 on windows 2003 server and IIS.
Kind regards,
ThomasIf you mean the "Maximum number of simultaneous requests",
this setting can be changed by making an edit to jrun.xml found in
\CFusionMX\runtime\servers\default\SERVER-INF\.
The argument is:<attribute
name="activeHandlerThreads">8</attribute> in the
ProxyService section.
Yours should show <attribute
name="activeHandlerThreads">1</attribute>.
Be sure to make a backup copy of the jrun.xml file before
making any edits.
You will need to restart ColdFusion after the change. -
Coldfusion Administrator on Amazon EBS volumes
I created 3 instances of a Coldfusion 9 Standard Amazon EC2 Win2k8 AMI, each with its own EBS volume. Let's call them machines A, B & C
When I make a CF Admin update on machine A, all three servers look as if they update simultaneously.
Somehow the other two are pointing to the administrator for machine A even though I am accessing via localhost or the IP address on the desktop of each machine.
I looked at neo-runtime.xml in the CF {root}\lib and indeed machines B & C are not being updated.
How canI get the CF Administrator to point to the local machine rather than the first AMI from which the rest were created? There can be any number of possible explanations for the confusion of things.
First, what is the URL you’re using to launch the CF admin (ip/domain and port)? And where are you launching the browser? On the server itself? From your desktop? And if you are specifying no port (which assumes 80), what web server is fronting the CF instances on the servers?

ColdFusion Administrator v.9 does not open in browser, gives error 500
I am hoping someone can help me, I have been working on and off on this problem for over a year with no luck.
In February 2013 I patched ColdFusion 9 with the hotfix APSB13-03, both on my production and development servers. Everything went perfect on the development server but production had some issues, I can't recall anymore exactly what happened but I was able to get it to the point that everything worked; meaning that all our cf webpages are served up correctly both inside and outside our organization. The only standing problem is that the ColdFusion Administrator will not load. Going to http://localhost/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm returns
According to my application.log here are a few sample error messages. They are always the same except for the jrpp #.
"Error","jrpp-47","05/05/14","09:50:42","cfadmin","coldfusion.server.SecurityService.remov eAuthenticated()V The specific sequence of files included or processed is: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\CFIDE\administrator\index.cfm, line: 12 "
"Error","jrpp-156","05/05/14","18:33:39","cfadmin","coldfusion.server.SecurityService.remo veAuthenticated()V The specific sequence of files included or processed is: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\CFIDE\administrator\index.cfm, line: 12 "
"Error","jrpp-157","05/05/14","18:41:10","cfadmin","coldfusion.server.SecurityService.remo veAuthenticated()V The specific sequence of files included or processed is: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\CFIDE\administrator\index.cfm, line: 12 "
I have opened index.cfm in Dreamweaver and line 12 is:
_ $class$coldfusion$tagext$io$SilentTag Ljava/lang/Class; coldfusion.tagext.io.SilentTag c forName %(Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/Class; ef java/lang/Class h
This is identical to that line in my development server, where the Administrator works just fine.
I have gone over so many files line by line and they are seemingly identical between servers. I have checked IIS (v. 6) and both entries for CFIDE are identical. I am fairly clueless when it comes to JRE stuff so maybe my problem is there but I don't know where to look.
A bonus complication on the production server is that it runs a very clunky, old, un-updated CMS for the non-ColdFusion sites. We are trying to move away from this but are stuck with it for a while more. I am not allowed to touch anything that could mess with the CMS.
I am very tired of trying to debug problems without the Administrator. If anyone has any suggestions for me I would be very grateful.
Thanks,
ChristinaHi Christina,
If you're getting 500 error which means the hotfix was not applied properly and you missed something. Only option which I think is to roll back the update and you can copy all the backup folders and the re-apply the hotfix. If you search forums you will lot of users had same issue and that is because they missed something while applying the hotfix.
Thanks,
Priyank
