Collaborating with Cubase User

Are there any Logic Pro 8 users here collaborating with Cubase users? If so, I could use some tips on how to most efficiently share files. OMF appears only to be useful for transfers between Logic, Digital Performer and ProTools. Is there anything similar for exporting/importing between Logic and Cubase?
I've tried the manual and the new Logic Pro 8 training book from David Nahmani...and I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
Thanks!
Lee

Lee,
Which version of Cubase?
Cubase can import OMF files as of version 2 (or is it 3?)
OMF only deals with audio files, if MIDI tracks are also being used save the MIDI data as a "Format-1" MIDI file and import the MIDI tracks following the OMF import.
Any version of Cubase-SX uses Broadcast Wave format files, these retain an internal time stamp. Logic 8 also does Broadcast Wave format.
I often start projects in Logic, render to Broadcast Wave, import to Cubase (running on an Athlon-64 PC) after importing to Cubase, select all files and then "Move to Original Position" and everything snaps into place.

  • Photobook collaboration with PC user ?

Tried the iPhoto photobook service last fall and loved the result. The book was really appreciated by the family members we sent copies to and became an almost instant heirloom.
Now we want to collaborate on a new book but some of us use iPhoto while others are on PCs and use Picaboo. We are many timezones apart so sharing computers (other than via Timbuktu ?) is out of the question.
Parallels would be an absolutely last resort, one I don't even want to consider if avoidable. Is there any other way of sharing the layout task cross-platform ? Maybe using pdf as the communications medium or something like that ... or is there a Mac & PC photobook creation application that I just haven't found yet ?
    Thanks for any inspired thoughts,
    -Sven

MyPublisher.com offers a bookmaking application for both Macs and PCs. If the files that are produced are cross platform you could share the file between two users with DropBox. Toad's Tutorial #21 describes how to use Dropbox to share an iWeb domain file between two Mac and the process would be the same for Mac to PC and a compatible file. The only caveat is that both users cannot edit the item at the same time if it's a UNIX style package like an iPhoto library or iWeb domain file. I*'ve not been able to find where the files are stored so can't help you with that.* They are not kept in the application as far as I can tell and don't show up even with invisible files displayed. 'Tis a puzzlement.

  • Collaborating with Other users

Trying to collaborate with someone from out of state.  He sent me his garageband recording through email, but the garageband app on my computer won't let me open it.  What is the best way to go about fixing this problem?

What exactly happens when you try? What is the error message?
It helps to send the GargeBand project as a compressed file.
Do you use the same versions of GarageBand?

  • Collaboration  with vendor  via Portal?

    Hi everyone :
I meet a problem about collaboration with vendor. Our customer has lots of vendor ,and our customer expect that their vendor could query related R/3 report real-time via Portal on Internet .
I had done the SSO between Portal and R/3, and the user who had Portal user and R/3 both  could access R/3 via Portal easily. We can create user for vendor in Portal easily, but it is impossible that we create user for all of vendors in R/3 , because of R/3 user need to pay for license. So vendors could not query R/3 report via Portal now .
        My problem :
        1. Vendors can't query R/3 report via Portal now.
Is there anyone met this problem ever , and How to solve this problem ?
2.On the assumption that our vendor can query R/3 report via Portal now, how can we control the authorization that certain vendor could query his data only, can't query other vendor's data ?
Any advice and discuss is welcome!

  • Collaboration with captivate

    Hi,
We have just set up a team of 5 using Elearning suite 2 and other Cs5 projects
Previously we all went our own seperate ways and each person did everything for their project
Now we want different people to get images, sound video and put them together.
So how do people work collaboratively with Captivate
    1. What do people use to assign tasks/track bugs to people ?
    2. What do people use to book in assets/control versions ?
    from adobe help
From Bridge, you can place selected assets in Adobe Captivate by dragging them into Adobe Captivate or using the In Captivate option from the Place menu
Select File > Place > In Captivate.
    thank-you
    Nymicat

    Hello Nymicat,
Some of the workflows which might help with this kinds of situation is Roundtripping with Photoshop, Soundbooth and Flash. For Ex, if Graphic Designer creates a PSD image and shares with the person working with Captivate and he imports the PSD, next time when the PSD is changed, Captivate can alert the user who is using captivate that the PSD has changed and whether he wants to re-import. Same thing happens with Flash Roundtripping also.
Also, reviewing is very easy with Captivate's features like SWF Commenting and Collaborating with Acrobat.com.
Currently Captivate cannot do version control and there are many softwares available for the same.
    Thanks,

  • Cubase user thinking of Logic

Are y'all happy with Logic Pro?
Seriously, I just wanna hear some Logic thoughts from users.
I do a great deal of straight audio editing with crossfades, etc. I've been doing okay with Cubase but am tiring of some of the workflow aspects of Cubase. Plus, I'm on a Mac and will always be on a Mac. I feel like I should seriously be considering using Logic Pro.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks folks!
    CP

Yes, Justin is the ultimate fanboy.
    NOT!!!
And X-man, you're not the fanboy I was referring to.
    Oops!
    (just kidding my friend!)
FWIW, I've watched people do crossfades in ProTools and though to myself, "man, I could do that faster in Logic". Maybe it's a case of "what you're used to", but even with Logic's non-specific fade tool I make crossfades in the blink of an eye, and when they're wrong I correct them in a blink of an eye, and I've even had some PT users watch me work and say, "wow, that's amazing". It has nothing to do with my skill or lack thereof -- it's simply about exploiting Logic's capabilities.
So there are some glowing words about Logic from "Mr. #$&^ bug-ridden piece of *#^#!!!". And so, I continue to glow, and I continue to work and make my living exclusively on Logic until I run into something stupid, sloppy, or buggy about the program, and then the gloves come off.

  • Cubase User, thinking of Switching to Logic 8

    Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let everyone know that first off, I have been an avid user of Cubase SX3 for quite some time now, and it is all I have ever known (aside from Reason).
I bought a mac a few years ago and realized that it didn't run as smoothly as I wanted it to with Cubase. I tried taking the jump into Logic 7 last year and test ran it for a few months before i realized it was probably not something I could get used to. It seemed like the transition was too rough and learning curve was steep. Overall, it just seemed counter-intuitive. I wasnt quite sure if it was really because it was much steeper, or i was not comfortable leaving the comfort zone.
Anyhow, to make a long story short. I am interested in giving 8.0 a shot to see if there is a big difference. For the past few years, i have been using Cubase's step designer plugin to randomize midi notes. This is when i have writers block and need some inspiration.
I found that in 7.0, i simply couldnt do this effectively. Is it true that you still have to "build environments"? I found that to be so confusing when i first started. I thought it would be just turning on a midi track and inserting a VST plugin and away I go.
Anyhow, to make a long story short, i assume that logic will run smoother on my mac than my cubase sx3 would. Also i have an unused Mackie C4 that i cannot use with cubase due to incompatibility issues.
Overall, to make a long story short, does anyone know if there is really a huge difference between 8.0 and 7.0? does it have a midi step sequencer that can randomize notes for me? Do i still need to build environments? Is it generally more user friendly than previous versions?
    Thank you!!

I can say that in comparing to Cubase 4 Logic 8 is a lot easier to use and more intuitive. I had bought Cubase 4 and returned it after 30 days because to me it was just too convoluted to get around in it. My other issues with Cubase 4 had to do with the fact that the plugins available simply didn't work with it, and Steinberg was still holding onto the VST 3.0 spec and therefore vendors could not take advantage of the new features, and everyone needed to update the plugs to 2.4 spec. Don't know how true that is anymore, I've long since stopped looking.
With Logic 8 I gained the fact that I get a one window environment. Before, you had to have multiple windows going at the same time, and to me that was too much clutter while I worked. I got 2 screens because of it, and it was still too distracting. With the single window to do everything I need I can work a lot quicker and hence it is a lot better for me to use it than Logic 7. Now I'm looking to sell both my 23" screens and replace them with one 30" screen.
Naming convention changes in logic also helped me. Funny how a little thing like that can help. The fact that I don't have to go to the arrange window, or the audio window to create new audio objects helps a lot. Another HUGE thing for me, and again it's a time and efficiency thing, is that with ever channel strip you see on the left, you will have 2 faders. One for the channel itself and one for the bus or aux it uses. If there are multiple buses simply click the bus above the fader, and the second fader will change to reflect that setting. Very quick, very visual and intuitive, very Apple. Logic 7 was not very 'apple' like when it came to usability and user interface IMHO.
From a feature standpoint, comping is amazing, I love it. Midi-wise the piano roll is more readable, but I don't do midi only work, so randomization and all those things are not features I can answer on. I just use the midi to lay down basic keys tracks and drums.
Last but not least, most, if not all, available plugins work in Logic 8 (I think there are very few exceptions due to deep changes in how multi-channel plugs are handled in logic, so BFD for example is busted right now), which means no real surprises if you want to use an AU version of a plugin you might already have as VST. Most plugs I think come with both, so there shouldn't be any re-buying for you.
Like Rohan suggested, if you know someone who has a copy of 8, you might be able to install it for a day or so and just try it. Of course I don't know that apple would be happy with us suggesting such a thing, but the ULA does allow for 2 installs of logic 8 as long as they're not running simultaneously (one on desktop and one on laptop), so technically you're not breaking the rules.
You might also want to consider Logic Express. Take a look at the feature sets of both and see if it doesn't cover the things you need. I discovered the express has almost all the features of 8 but less bundled apps. It used to be that express was pretty limited in aux and buses but not anymore, and it includes some of the sample synths. If its price was not the same as my Logic 8 update, I would have likely considered it.

  • Hi everyone, to use the portal with many users using the same portal user?

I have an another question is possible to use the portal with many users using the same portal user with diferent roles in the same time?
    thanks

    Hi Israel,
It is possible to have same user logged in through differnt terminals or browser windows. However if there are say 10 roles assigned to that user, all 10 will be visible in all the windows. However you may open and work on different roles.. in the different windows.
Note that the real time collaboration features shall not be available if the same user logs in multiple times.
    Hope this is useful.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID.

  • How to set up a desktop with numerous users

New to the Mac...replacing windows desktop
Home desktop: 2 adults 2 kids
the adults each have (multiple separate) email accounts...the kids have email but not as important...
    mostly browsing; email; social networks...
shared apps would be MS Office...
not overly privacy concerned...any user can see the computers files...i suppose everyone should get some email account privacy...
    1. I supposes creating 4 users is the most rational...
i assume each user could have a separate email setup...that would only be visible when they are logged in to their account...
I assume each user could have a separate documents folder...that would be the default when they are logged in (but when logged in to to other accounts it      is probably visible)
I assume everyone could share the MS office apps...
This seems rational...a sandbox for everyone...
    2. are there alternatives?
the problem with multiple users is that 3/4 users are not computer oriented...they dont have the mentality to log in and log out...they tend to just sit down and start surfing...writing a document...
can you have multiple separate email "silos" in one user logon? a different icon to go to different users emails...
I want something rationale but simple...
p.s. just an observation..as one with some gray hairs...
despite a pretty expensive mac desktop on order...for home use...desktops are kind of dying...
its all the phone and the tablet...I (and my family) simply do not sit in front of the family desktop anymore...for example, i used to pore over quicken...now most of the finanial stuff is on the financial institutions website etc...any i can look at my finances (for example) better on their website than i could with my home software...and i do not want to sit on my couch or kitchen table and not at the desk in the "office"...
but we still need it for school projects...somethings where we need a big screen...
but i want to set it up simple...
    thx

I'd still set up four user accounts. You don't have to set a password for them, if you don't want to, which eases login. Everyone gets their own space to "decorate" as they wish.
It is not simple, or pleasant, to keep everyone's email in one account and try to deal with it. Mail doesn't have a "profile" system as that is taken care of by the user account. There is no way to switch between email accounts if they are all in one user account. You'd end up removing those gray hairs, violently.
Everybody has access to all the programs on the Mac. However, you could install one inside a user account, then only that user would be able to use it. Not common, but possible.
With Fast User Switching, they can select their name from the menu bar to go to their account, if it is not sitting on the Login screen.
There is also a Shared folder inside the /Users folder where you can put documents that everyone needs access to, if you need it.

  • SAP NW CE 7.1: Sign-on to R/3 backend with Portal User

    Hello,
I have create a an Application Service. There I have imported some RFC and created some operations to read data from the R/3 backend and write in R/3 backend.
I have created an other Development Component. It's a EJB Module. With EJB invocation I get access to the Application Service.
The next step is to use the EJBs with Web Dynpro with the an EJB Model Import.
    Now my questions:
How can I realize that this user who sign on in portal and excute the Web Dynpro Application also sign on at R/3 backend. In NWA at Destinations I changed the <i>Logon Data--Authentication</i> from <i>Technical User</i> to <i>Current User (Logon Ticket)</i>.
Now I get the following exception:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: No SAP logon ticket found for destination TDE.
I execute the methods of the EJB in a test-class via JDNI-lookup.
<b>How can I create a logon ticket for my destination?</b>
Do I have "only" to follow the instructions here for http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/4d/dd9b9ce80311d5995500508b6b8b11/frameset.htm for Scenario 1?
<b>How can I deliver CAF the userid and password?</b>
I implemented a test-class where I use the EJB of the EJB Module. How can I give CAF the userid and password of an PortalUser?
    Redards,
    Armin

    Hi Armin,
Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question about logon tickets. But regarding user propagation to the CAF Application Service:
When you access the Portal / WD app, you authenticate with some user. The latter is automatically propagated to the EJB in the EJB module and then to the EJB implementing the CAF service. So, you don't need to do anything explicitly.

  • Public SharePoint Online Site with External User Portal

    Hello Everyone,<o:p></o:p>
My company switched over to Office 365 a few months ago, and now would like to start using our Public SharePoint site to share information (documents
pertaining to their orders/drawings/etc.) with our customers (external users).<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
I have seen documentation on how to share documents with individual users, but we were looking to do something a little bit different. We would ultimately
like to have a public site with generic company information (like hours, about us,directions etc.) that anyone can see.
We would also like to use SharePoint as almost an "FTP type" service where we could post documents and share them with individual
    external
users. HOWEVER, instead of sharing individual documents, we were wondering if there was a way that an external user (that we have granted
access) could sign into the public SharePoint site, and then see information that ONLY pertains to them.
I have been doing some research on this, and I haven't seen that anyone else has tried this. Has anyone had any luck? Or would you have suggestions on how to make
this work? I had originally posted this question on the Office 365 SharePoint forum, and they suggested posting this question here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,
did you finally manage to get what you requested here above ? Indeed, I am also struggling to set up the same (public website with individual content sharing with external authentified user).
For external user, I am quite sure that we need to go through MS ID creation (I have created some test users using https://login.live.com).
Our public website is done and (almost) working. I have then created a sub-site for the same, this one to manage permission based on authentified user
But I am stuck when trying to assign a document library with relavant permission.
Would be great to share our feedback and I have searched a lto on the web and did not find any satisfying answer to this design (If there is any... here is my doubt...)
    Thanks in advance

  • Working with multiple users and computers, but shared data

Sorry if this is posted in a poor place, I'm not sure where the best place is. This is sort of a general questions.
For a long time, my wife and I have had either one computer, or two machines but one has definitely been just a terminal. We've basically set up all of our data to be one one primary machine, and if we want to view/edit that data we have to use that machine.
We just got a new MacBook Pro and I would like to be able to use two machines as equals. Sadly, this idea of multiple computers, with two users and some shared data is really giving me difficulty. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to best manage things like:
Synchronizing portions of our contact list (We share about 50% of the combined library -- we don't have to share all though).
How to manage iPhoto so that we can each have access to the photos. As an added difficulty (or maybe this is easier?) my Wife just wants to have access to the pictures for viewing and sharing on Facebook/Picassa/etc. I am the only one who wants to edit, correct and cull our library. That said, I always edit when I first put the data on the machine, and almost never again; so it would be fine to have one (or both accounts) set up as view only for the iPhoto data.
How to manage iTunes so that we can each have access to the music. As a super awesome bonus, it would be great if we could have three libraries: His, Hers and Shared. Maybe as much as 30% of our music library is similar, the rest just gets in the way.
What is the best solution people have found for calendars? (I'm thinking two separate calendars, and we each subscribe to each others iCal feed)
Mail.app and bookmark synching is not really a problem for us.
    Two extra points:
    * One machine is portable, and the other isn't. Ideally, when the laptop is out of the house, both machines should still have reasonable access to the shared data. That is: Just dumping things in the shared folder won't work because when the laptop is out of the house we will be disconnected from the source data.
    * We just got a second iPhone. This means that both of us will be taking photos/video separately and trying to synch back to the master data store.
    * Basically, I'm trying to minimize data duplication as much as possible, and just synchronize the systems to each other.
Thanks a ton in advance. If anyone has any suggestions at all, I would love to hear them. Including "This is in the wrong forum, go ask here instead..."

So you have a desktop Mac and a laptop Mac, right? Two user accounts (and a third admin account) on each computer, right?
I profess that I haven't tried this, but here is how I would approach your problem:
Sharing Music and Photos between multiple user accounts on the same computer:
See if http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=194992 and http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=510993 provide any useful information to assist you in this endeavor.
    Sharing across multiple computers:
Turn on file sharing on the Desktop (System Preferences > Sharing). Now you can mount the Desktop as an external drive on the laptop's Desktop. Copy the music and photo folders across. Will take awhile to do the first time. Then, for future use, get a copy of the donationware CarbonCopyCloner or equivalent. You can use CCC to selectively sync specific folders from one computer to the other. There may be a hassle with digital copyright issues on music and movies, though.
    Calendars:
As you have suggested yourself, publishing yours and subscribing to hers is probably the best way to do it, on the same computer. Across computers, syncing with CCC or equivalent would probably be the way to go.
