Collate and staple

I have several Windows 7 64-bit PCs that are experiencing issues when printing to Canon iR-ADV devices.  When the user sets the output to multiple copies of a collated, stapled job, the output is collated, but all stapled together.  Instead of say 3 separate 4 page jobs each stapled (3 staples), we get 3 jobs and 1 staple.  When performing the same type of job from Microsoft Word on these PCs, the output is correct.  It appears that Adobe is trying to "help" the print driver....
Is there a way to disable Adobe's "interference" with the print jobs or a patch to fix this issue?

from section expert, we can click new page After option. here we can apply a formula when "New page after" is to activate.

    Turkish has 2 unique letters pairs:
    '\u0130' & 'i' ('&#304' & 'i') which correspond to English 'I', & 'i'
    'I', & '\u0130' ('I' & 'ı') which don't exist as letters in English and represent back-vowel pairs of English 'I', & 'i'.

    In other words, English I i are both with a dot in Turkish, and the back-vowel versions of them are both dotless.
    My task at hand is:
    sort them alphabetically, ignoring case, but naturally capturing the dot difference.
    From the API it appears that either:
    langCollator.setStrength(Collator.SECONDARY|Collator.CANONICAL_DECOMPOSITION);
    or
    langCollator.setStrength(Collator.SECONDARY);
    should do the job.
    However, all combinations of containing PRIMARY & SECONDARY fail to distinguish between the dotfulls and the dotless. The only thing that gets both of them to compare != 0 is TERTIARY or (a logical | with) Collator.FULL_DECOMPOSITION. But the moment i do that i am no longer able to ignore case.
    I did a lot of testing, and am convinced that i'll need to submit a bug, but wanted to get any feedback first. If it is a bug, i'll have to figure out RuleBasedCollator, probably by listing the entire alphabet.
    P.S. In fact, letters '�' and 'o', for example, don't compare to 0 in Turkish version of Collator even with Collator.PRIMARY, apparently because they are a part of the alphabet, whereas '�' and 'a' always compare to 0 even with SECONDARY, which is again a bug even though '�' and 'a' are not part of the alphabet.
    I'm not really concerned whether PRIMARY or SECONDARY should compare the dotless and the dotfulls != 0, but right now none of them does, if there is a requirement of ignoring case.

  • Printing Issue with Adobe Reader 11.0.01 with collate/stapling

    Hello,
    If I send a Word document to the copier with instruction to make 6 copies,collate and staple it works fine. If I send a PDF document with the same instructions it prints all the copies out and staples them all together.
    I have reinstalled Adobe Reader and my printer driver.  I run on Windows XP Pro SP3 (fully patched) and using a Xerox 7435 printer. 

    Can you open Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

    I have used a plug in (XMPie) to InDesign to generate a 4 page variable document. This document contains multiple records. I have created a PDF output a file containing 800 pages. The problem is, I need to be able to define where the end of each record is so that I can properly collate and staple each record (4 pages) separately. Is there a way to do this in Acrobat?

    Adobe proior to version 9 discouraged multiple Acrobat/Reader product/versions on the same client. Version 9 says it is OK but you still need to set each applications preferences correct to stop the sibling bickering. Too many posts about this.

  • Acrobat 8/9 staple + collate defaults not sticking, odd

    A customer of mine came across a odd issue. The user opens a multi-page PDF and prints using a profile with staple + Collate. Everything works fine it prints properly. If the user opens up a second multi-page PDF and goes to print the settings have changed from staple + Collate to Staple + Group. This happens even while still in the printing profile that is suppose to specify Staple + Collate. I've found that this issues appears on Acrobat 8 and 9 but not on Acrobat 10 or Reader 11.
    The user in on Windows 7 and is printing to a Canon IR Advanced 4045. I've tried Canon 4045 and the PCL drivers with the same result.
    I appreciate any help that can be given, my user is getting irritated by this issue.

    I hear what you are saying and everyone hates IE but we have to design for all browsers.
    I guess the best work round is to forget the target as _blank and wait until Microsoft stop that working in IE as well!
    Just thought someone else might have found a work round or that Adobe would want to find a fix also otherwise people will stop using Acrobat Reader as well.

  • Want to upgrade 2008 R2 to 2012. Upgrade advisor giving errors relating to Database Compatability Level and Server Collation

    I want to upgrade a SQL Server from 2008 R2 to 2012.  When I run upgrade advisor, I get the following error messages:
    Rule "Valid Database compatibility level and successful connection" failed.
    The report server database is not a supported compatibility level or a connection cannot be established.  Use Reporting Services Configuration Manager to verify the report server configuration and SQL Server management tools to verify the compatibility
    level.
    Rule "Valid Database server collation and successful connection" failed.
    The SQL Server Database Engine is not configured with a valid server collation and cannot be used as the Reporting Services SharePoint Shared Service catalog database.
    The database called ReportServer has Collation = Latin1_General_Cl_AS_KS_WS and Compatibility level = 100

    Regarding to the first error message, please check the Reporting Service Configuration Manager, make sure that you connect to ReportServer database from the correct server
     and use servername\instancename format connection string. For more details, please review this similar

    Regarding to the second error, it is caused by that the current SQL Server Database Engine server is using an incompatible server collation.
    SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services SharePoint mode utilizes the SharePoint shared services architecture. SharePoint does not support SQL Server Database Engine configured for case sensitive or server collations or binary server collations.
    And since the SQL Server Database Engine server collation property cannot be changed, you will not be able to complete an upgrade of Reporting Services. You will need to migrate your Reporting Services installation to a new server which is using a compatible

    I put together a presentation piece with Pages, converted its 19 pages to pdf files, emailed the folder of pdf files to Staples for duplication, collation, and binding, and was disappointed to see some of my graphic frame formatting lost.

    I was "raised" on Microsoft Publisher, then worked with Adobe Elements before switching to Mac.  For the most-part, I find Mac OSX 10.7.5 a joy to use, but it takes me quite a while to figure out how to bridge differences between PC and Mac applications.   Even though Mac applications tend to be straight forward, I loften find myself shaking my head and wondering how I could have been stumped so long by a little thing such as instant alpha.  I don't want to chalk up this difficulty in adapting  to old age, but could! (--Which translates:  Please be easy on the old lady!)  Thanking you in advance for such assistance as you might provide ...

    Upgrade to Mountain Lion OSX 10.8, much better than Lion.
    I take it you are talking about Pages '09?
    Your problem is probably with anything that has transparency eg fancy frames, 3D charts, shadows, reflections because Pages exports all these to too low 72dpi resolution in .pdfs.
    Prepping files for commercial print is always a concern and you need at least some Pro skills, but Apple has made life even harder with key missing settings and inferior presets.
    The subject of preparing for print is rather broad and detailed.

  • Can't Define Document to Staple every 3 pages in a 1000 page document

    Hello,
    I am printing a LARGE multipage document. I created a 1000+ record data merge in excel for a packet. Each packet is supposed to be 3 pages and duplexed w/ a top left staple. The issue is the document isn't setting up the pages as [1,2] [3,4] [5,6], it is set up as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10... so it doesnt know when to staple. It will print 50 then staple those all together. I need to know how define the page range. Been working on this for 3 days and finally came to the forums. Thank you!

    The Stitch is part of the printer features, not InDesign. You enabled stitching by hitting the Setup tab on the print dialog and enabled stitching.
    For this to work you are going to need sets of three (or 6 pages, from your description)
    This answer is not pretty, but it should work...
    Print your merge template once with settings, these should carry over to the new, merged documents
    As part of the Create Merged Document process, there is an option on the option tab to limit Records Per Document. If you set this to 1, ID would create about individual new documents that you would Print > Stitch.You would have to print 1000 documents.
    I do not recommend this, but it would work.
    Limit your records during the merge, (first tab, Records > Range) to perhaps, create 100 documents, elsewise I expect ID would crash, or take 30 minutes to complete. Depending on the horsepower of your machine, this could double or half.
    This sounds like something to inquire about in the scripting forum; ie: create one 6 page merged, print using defined setting, close document, repeat.
    The better way...print the whole thing, flat, take it to a printer with a decent collater and have them collate & Stitch.

    I print an 8 or 12 page newsletter for my work. I want my printer/copier to fold and staple each document individually. Pages seems to send all documents to the printer in one huge file. How do I mail merge and print one document at a time?
    [In Windows Publisher, there's a registry hack to make Pub print one at a time. Anything similar on a Mac?]

  • HP 4250 w/ Stapler/Stacker attachment fails to printer properly on Snow Leo

    We have an old HP 4250tn printer. We recently attached a newly purchased HP stapler/stacker to it. Under Windows XP, we can print to the printer's stapler/stacker without issues. Specifically, we can print multiple copies of the same document, each individually stapled.
    On Snow Leopard (10.6.2), I can print a single copy of a document to the stapler/stacker and it prints and staples properly. However, if I instead attempt to print multiple copies of the same document, it attempts to staple all the copies together with a single staple. This clearly seems like a printer driver issue (since the XP box can manage this task).
    HP refused to provide customer support because the NEW stacker/stapler was attached to an out of warranty HP printer. As such, we had to work out the problem this far on our own.
    1) We did flash the firmware on the printer to the latest version.
    2) We did power cycle the printer after the firmware upgrade and confirmed via the configuration page that the new firmware "took".
    3) We went to HP's site and confirmed that the latest printer drivers for Snow Leopard are the printer drivers installed with Snow Leopard.
    4) We confirmed we can't seemingly print from Snow Leopard properly.
    5) We have confirmed that using the latest drivers on Leopard also results in multiple copies getting stapled together.
    Any chance of a workaround or of someone at Apple giving a hoot about fixing this esoteric printer driver issue?

    Well, we figured out this is a bug in CUPS. In a nutshell, when you request multiple (let's say "N") copies of a document be printed to an HP LaserJet 4250, the CUPS driver, instead of sending one copy of the postscript to the printer with instructions to print N copies of the document embedded in the postscript instead makes N copies of the document, concatenates them into one postscript file, and then sends it to the printer. The printer receives a single large postscript file which is why it only staples it once.
    My solution for now is rather hacky. I wrote a perl script that will take any PDF file sent to it and will print it N times, so that each copy is individually sent to the print. I then created an automator workflow as a wrapper so I can print multiple stapled copies via the PDF services menu in the print dialog box or by dropping a PDF file onto an Automator "Droplet" app I created. This works, but in a multi-user environment like my office, it is possible for other people's print jobs to slip in between the N copies, since they are all being sent individually. Also, you lose the ability for the printer to tell you how many copies remain to be printed.
    If anyone at Apple reads these boards, PLEASE fix this so that the CUPS drivers for the HP behave properly and send the postscript file only once with instructions to print N times. BTW, it was possible to send N copies from the command line (using the "lp" command) in Leopard with CUPS 1.3.X and have it print properly (it appeared to send one copy of the postscript with instructions to the printer to print N copies), but Snow Leopard with CUPS 1.4 broke that (now, CUPS assembles N copies together into one postscript file and fires it to the printer).

    I downloaded Indesign CS3 trial and liked everything about it until I attempted to print to postscript and got that message. Nothing I have tried has helped. I have seen in various forums that others are having the same problem, but haven't found any solution offered. I am running Tiger 10.4.10 on a new Intel Imac with 3G ram. This is a procedure I use very often in my workflow, and have never had this problem with CS2 on my PC or other Macs. Is there a solution? I downloaded the .1 update and installed that and it didn't change anything.

    Its the first time Im using print booklet option to save my file. I have the same problem when trying to save as pdf and get the

    I'm trying to save a .pdf of a booklet of a facing pages document of A4 size each facing page for a whole size A3, then hope to let the pages be correctly arranged by inDesing, then print and staple.
    Meaning pages will be like this - Page #60 left side [of the A3] - page #1 right side [of the A3] , page # 2 right side[of the A3] - page #59 left side[of the A3] etc...
    I CANT DO IT. I tried to follow Melvin Thompson , but when I choose save .ps and open it in preview all I see is independent a4 pages and just the left ones , .. How can I save my file as .pdf ready to be printed in a3 ?

  • Merging and printing multiple copies in InDesign

    I have created a nice 8 page A4 folder based on 4 double sided sheets of A3 that are folded and stapled nicely in our printer. Now I have managed to make a data merge from an Excel document with all my 500 customers so that I can personalize every bochure with name and address. The problem I have now is though that when I make the merge I end up with one large document of 8 x 500 pages (4000 pages long) and can't print them as separate documents with folding and stapling. Is tehre a way to tell InDesign that every 8th page the print should be treated as a separate document so that the printer knows when to fold and staple? If InDesign can't handle it, is tehre a way to make  PDF and then tell in Acrobat how to treat the document this way?

    Not sure I've understood, but the process is: (a) export to PDF your 4000 page InDesign document. (b) Open in Acrobat and run the split command. (c) You will now have a whole bunch of "split" pdfs in the same folder as the original large PDF.
    You won't have some sort of a magical binder -- this will be a whole bunch of separate PDF documents.
