Color Correction doesn't export

Hi Everyone,
Hoping someone can help me with an issue that I somehow can't figure out how to solve. So I do most of my color correction@ within Premiere Pro however, I've noticed that whenever I export my video, the color correction is either not there or the color is muted. For example, I like the colors to pop out in my videos so I increase the saturation a lot however when I export it via Adobe Media Encoder it gives me a video with muted color that doesn't look close to what I see in my Program Monitor.
Should I just do my color correction in SpeedGrade (will have to learn) or is there anyway I can fix this?

The format I'm exporting is H.264, present is Vimeo HD 1080p 23.976.
I usually just import the footages natively, some are DSLR footages and some are Sony footages, still at the H.264 format.
Does that help a little?

  • Final cut pro 10.1.2 Update - Color Correction / Grading Not Exporting

    Hi guys
Since upgrading to Final Cut Pro 10.1.2, the software is working almost perfectly fine, but when exporting movies - whether I export them as h264, iTunes or directly to YouTube - they do not export with the colour corrections I applied to different shots. Does anyone know a way around this?
Best wishes and I look forward to hearing from you.
    Shai

    Thanks Tom
Here's a screenshot of what the Quicktime file looks like compared to the fcp movie. There are a couple of shots where the color correction stays intact, but for the majority, the export seems to ignore it completely. Very strange.

  • FCP export to Vegas for color correction

I work in FCP, I don't have the best eye for color, so I'm having a friend do the color correction with a PC, using Magic Bullet and some other software. Rather than exporting the entire film, or entire scenes, which he'd have to go back and cut into individual shots in order to edit them all individually with their own color treatment, he has me exporting every shot from the film and exporting them to his harddrive or DVDs for him to work on. I've been doing it a scene at a time. It's incredibly tedious, very easy to screw up (if a shot goes a few frames long and under another shot, for example, it's out of sync, and if I forget a shot, mislabel a shot, get out of order when labeling them, etc, it's out of sync, etc), and I'm sure, at some point, I'm going to screw it up and it's going to be very annoying. Is there any more practical way to do this so that he has the markers, the shots are cut already, etc, but he doesn't have to reconstruct it from a thousand shots I've exported one at a time? I don't want to make him go back and make all the cuts himself, either, though that actually seems slightly easier to me.

"I don't have the best eye for color" means I'm color blind. I don't appreciate the "learn the 3 way" comments. You can learn to drive a manual all you want, but if something in your brain tells you train tracks are highways, you're bound to run into trouble. And a train.
The other editor lives an hour away, and he hates working on a Mac. He came here once and tried to edit using my system, but he couldn't get the hang of it. Add to that he came an hour each way to do that, and I had to pay for his gas, that made it very expensive, timely venture. It also means he'd have to have, say, at least 4 hours set aside each time he wanted to edit, to travel here and make it worth his time to do so. At home, he can do it anytime.

  • Unable to Export Color Corrected Video's to Original format for AVCHD (GH2) and ProRES Codecs.

I imported a 176 MBPS AVCHD clip from my GH2 into Lightroom 4, then i added color presets to the video and color corrected the video, however during export when i select the video format as original the color correction does not apply to the video, only the original video is saved, But when i select H.264 or DPX the video is saved with the effects applied. I also tried using a AVCHD clip converted to Apple ProRES but when i export the video the effects are not applied to the saved video. Also the option i get for saving H.264 files is only 22 MBPS.

Original, whether for photos or video, means "unedited".  Bear in mind that this isn't intended for high-end video editing - just simple edits for digitial photographers.  It won't replace your video editing software anytime soon, if ever.

  • CS4 - Color Correction Bug with MPG2 export

I just want to verify this is a bug others are seeing before I submit the bug report.
    1. Create a new timeline of your choice, (size etc does not matter)  Make sure "maximum bit depth" is selected.
    2. Next, place a clip of your choice (HDV, AVCHD, or EX1) that has bright sceen in it so the IRE hits 110.
    3. Place the Fast Color Correction or Three way color correction effect on the clip.  Change somthing (like white balance or whatever)
    4. Export the clip to MPG2 BlueRay.  Any preset will do.
    5. Now bring the just exported M2V clip back into the project and place it on the timeline.  The max IRE value will be 100, not 110.
    6. If you do step 4 but export the H264 BluRay, the IRE will stay at 110.
I was doing some CC and it was driving me crazy.

Bump. Has anyone seen this problem? Seems like a very comon workflow.  CC a clip, then export the MPG2?

  • Batch Exporting  Color Corrected Clips, QT issues

    Hello,
I work for a small ad company with a couple guys on the road shooting video, a video editor(me) and a few graphic designers. For company workflow reasons I take video footage from guys on the road and export to Quicktime movies(5-50 per client, 5-10 sec. apiece) and give to graphic designers, they then use After Effects and Motion to lay graphics on and lay out vid for ad.
    1. I generally capture the whole tape.
    2. I select Ins/Outs from that tape and make (lets say) 50 clips in timeline.
    3. I make all clips independant and rename in order 1-50
    4. (THIS IS WHERE PROBLEM STEMS) I color correct all clips using 3 wheel color corrector
    5. I pull all 50 clips (numbered, color corrected) into a client bin
    6. Right Clip bin, Batch export.
    7. Check Use In/ Out , Make Self Contained, Prefix .Mov, Quicktime movie using MPEG 4compressor, best quality, and set destination.
    8. Hit Export
The result is a Quicktime Movie that has sound but is frozen on first frame of video.
Normally this process works perfect and I have no issues with QT. Step 4 is something that I would like to incorporate but everytime I try I get the issues with Quicktime.
Thanks ahead of time for help, hope I gave someone enough to go off of.
    I.V.

If you drag the clips from the timeline to a bin and select them all and choose batch export and set the option to export in to out, it should work.  Not sure about the naming option, but I suspect it'll work.  Do a test first.

  • Printer Requested Exporting Document in CMYK, with one other color so he could color correct to his printers.  How do I do this?

I have a client that was originally going with a metallic Pantone color and last minute decided to change their mind to cut costs.  So after talking to the printer (because the conversion color is way off) he requested that I export the document in 5 color processing.  He wants CMYK + the color that would originally have been the metallic pantone so he can go in and grab that one color and color correct as needed on his printer.  Can someone please let me know how I export CMYK + one color which will also be in CMYK.
    Thanks!

Incase anyone comes across this same issue, you can create a new swatch as a "Spot Color" even though it is CMYK and it will export as CMYK + 1 other color.  Hope this helps anyone else who comes across it.

  • Color Correction: Canvas color is off from exported video

    Hey everyone,
Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I've been searching around and can't find the answer I'm looking for.
When I color correct a video, I get it to where I want in the canvas, and then go to export. When I export the video, it looks different from what I did in the canvas. The exported video ALWAYS looks like its never been color corrected. It's very aggravating because I have to over color correct it to make it look the way I want. Like raise the contrast a bit more, to get the exported video to look right, while the preview in the canvas looks bad.
Any suggestions to how to perhaps change the color settings on the canvas? or how to correct this problem?
    Thanks a lot,
    Jonathan

It's unfortunate that the word "calibration" has been co-opted to mean something along the subjective lines of a daily set-up using a blue gun gray scale or a blue screen with NTSC or PAL or HD bars, performing white/black and chroma level adjustments by eye.
Calibration of a monitor in the literal sense is performed by an engineer with engineering tools to perform precise, objective adjustments of the r,g,b bias and gains as well as any yoke alignment in the case of one of those old fashioned cathode ray tube type displays.

  • Exporting Movies Losing Color Correction

I have a movie created in iMovie 08 that I've used color correction on the clips. When I export the movie to an .m4v file or .mov file, the movie plays as expected with the color corrections applied.
However, If a most the .mov file to the web, or convert the .mov or .m4v file to an .flv file for playing in a Flash player, all of the color correction is lost and the video clips return to their originals, which is too dark.
Why am I losing the color correction?

I am using Flash CS3. Here are steps I am taking to import the video:
    1. File > Import > Import Video
    2. Selecting Videos (I've tried converting both .mov and .m4v files)
    3. Selecting "Progressive download from a web server"
    4. Choosing Flash 8 - High Quality (700kbps) profile
--- Under Video > Video codec the only two options I have are On2 VP6 or Sorenson Spark
Does this help? Please let me know if there's something more specific that would help answer the question. I'm technically competent, but new to video conversion.
    Thanks for the help.

  • FCE not exporting color corrections (help please)

I see there are some really experienced Final Cut folks here. Anyone care to help with this glitch?
I've imported AVCHD footage from a Canon Vixia in 1920x1080. I edit it in Final Cut Express. I add Color Correction and Brightness / Contrast Filters. Then I export it as regular Quicktime (no compression). For some reason the brightness changes get exported but the color correction changes do not. I have tried rendering the footage before export. No change. It only exports brightness edits.
    How can I fix this?
    thank you for your help!

Hi and welcome to the forum!
What are your sequence settings? Are you seeing the color changes in your canvas before export?

  • Lightroom 4 won't save color correction to .R3D file

Really didn't have problems until export. I'm amazed with how fast Lightroom plays playback on .r3d files. Anways after all the color correctrion is done I try to export the file to its original format (r3d) but upon playing the file in Red Cine-X, non of the color corrections I made are saved. It's as if I didn't edit the file at all. However if I choose to save the file as a H264 and play the file, all my corrections are saved. So it only doesn't work if I choose to export my file as the original R3d format. Anyone know whats wrong or how to solve this?

    Hi mikey,
LR never writes to original files, and it does not do sidecars for videos.
So in order to view your LR adjustments outside LR you need to use a format which LR can write to, like H264.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 then After Effects CS3 for Color Correction?

    Hello All,
I'm at a bit of a loss here, it seems like it's a no brainer to be able to do this. I'm trying to edit my film in Premiere and then use After Effects to do color correction using Color Finesse 2. But there doesn't seem to be ANY way to keep a project so you can continue to edit in premiere while you also keep all your color correction??
You can do color correction in AE and export a premiere project but premiere won't recognize the Color Finesse Filter so you lose all you color correction!
Or I can edit the whole project in premiere and open it in after effects to do color correction, but then if there is a single edit change that needs to be done in premiere again i've once again lost my Color Correction to bring it back.
Is this really the case that I can't use these expensive packages together this way? It seems like there has to be a solution! If Adobe just made it so Premiere kept the "links" to your filters in the project, instead of killing an unrecognizable one. Then when you opened it back in after effects after your edit your Color Correction would still be there.
    Any one have any advice?
    Thanks,
    -Ethan

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, all good ideas.
Aanarav, Your idea to just get Color Finesse for premiere I suppose I could do. It's $545 which isn't exactly pocket change, but it would probably be worth it, if there is another way other than breaking the bank book for software I already own i'd like to try to get away with it.
    Steven Gotz
Dynamic link is unfortunately a feature only of the production studio package which is like $1100 upgrade from what I have...so that's kinda out of the question for me.
    Jon Sands
Great idea here. I really thought it might work since premiere seems to use what are called after effects plugin files too. But after copying and pasting for a while it doesn't look like it actually sees it as a plugin anywhere I paste it. :( If anyone knows of a way to get that to work I would be seriously grateful!
I guess it sounds like the only way out is to spend cash, sigh such is so often the case is seems.

  • Fast color correction in premiere pro

Hi, I'm having a problem using Fast color correction with two different clips which show the same picture and are of different colors. here are the frames:
This is the correct color; checking the white balance it's perfectly white when check with the front of the raft. Perhaps the saturation should be slightly modified but over all this is exactly what you see when arriving at Red Cavern (the name speaks for itself) on the Colorado.
Here is the same shot taken at the same hour by a friend of mine who gave me some of his footage; everything is either white, pink or grey even the yellow raft on the left has not its true pure yellow which it is in reality:
Although taken at 20 years interval, the shots were done most probably at the same hour. The only difference being a more important set of trees due essentially to the level of water higher on my trip in 1995 than 2 years ago on my friend's one. The beach on the right side of mine being under water or having formed later. Of course the second shot is done with a digital camcorder which did not exist 20 years earlier.
As one can see the reds are washed out  and do not correspond to reality. The footage is taken at the Red Cavern on the Colorado
The problem is to correct the second footage to get the same reds as both footage cross dissolve from one to the other and that I  wish of course to be nearer as possible of the true colors. I can't check the white balance using Fast color correction on the second footage because there is no pure white visible anywhere. The sand at the base of the cavern or on its right is not white in reality as it consists of deposits either of mud from the river or sandstone of the cavern and the redwall above. Which effect would enable me to correct the second footage to approach as much as possible to the same color of the first one. Most probably FCC is not the right effect to choose.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
    Claude

I think that's about as nice as you can expect ... years apart, or even just hours apart with sun coming in a different angle on the same rocks (not even depending on any reflection changes!) can oft get massive shifts in "apparent" color. Which is ... real? Either, both, neither? It's actually one of the things that makes going back & shooting in the same place over & over interesting ... it's never EXACTLY the same ... or rarely so.
Ahh, now we're almost into a discussion someone will moan about needing to be continued over on the Sg forum ... tee-hee.
From your comment about transferring clips ... are you using an EDL process? When using "Direct Link" (the "direct to SpeedGrade" command) normally all the "stuff" from the PrPro project are included. There have been the odd instances where Sg doesn't "see" something, but ... I'm curious, I've not run into this for most anything I've done "direct". Either direct or EDL can work, but it does change your work-patterns a ton depending on which you choose.
SpeedGrade is an amazing tool ... and is designed to give a very good basic correction and then allow one to step off the deep-end into stylin' your shots. Especially with the large collection of "legacy" clips you've got from your friend, that seem to be of a similar "look", you can correct those for basics (WB, dynamic range, blacks & whites, hue shifts) using a Primary or two or three and then a Secondary for the hue-shifts. Then save that as a "Look" and anytime you run more of those clips, you can just in a couple clicks throw that Look over top of them and have all your previous work on that footage done bang. Slick as all get out, and I think you'll love that part of it.
Just a bit on my process that has come about since going so heavily into DL ... it used to be enough "work" to export an EDL, load things into Sg, then export out to re-import back into PrPro that like most I did pretty much to edit-lock & then to Sg. That is pretty much History ... it's so fast that when I start putting together a sequence for a new project I'll just throw a number of clips onto the timeline ... DL to Sg, do a Basic grade on them (especially if there's significant skin as I've got a GH3 and it naturally makes skin un-natural so I've a Look to recover skin-looking skin) and go back to PrPro. Now as I'm editing I've got a feel for how good a visual I'll get off that group of clips. Mostly finish my editing, with maybe an occasional minute or two over in Sg (quite literallly) doing something like making something a Master Clip so the other bits of that one get the same grade automatically). Before doing the final export out of PrPro I'll go to Sg and do the rest of the "style" work.
Then back in PrPro thow on my titles & such, pop in any fixed audio from Audition, & out it goes.
I do use some "adjustment layers" added to sequences in PrPro simply to use for additional grading layers to utilize in Sg over groups of clips or occasionally one if I'm doing enough I want to put it "up" on a different layer. Not always ... but sometimes.
Pretty slick for the most part.
    Neil
