Color help please!
When I view a file in CS5, the colors are vastly different than when I view the same file from any other program on my computer. I calibrate regularly and want to be viewing as per the calibration on CS5- are there setting I need to change in CS5 or are those accurate and I need to change the settings in my control panel?? Thank you!!

So that you can be better helped,what OS/version are you running,what software/hardware do you calibrate your monitor with,and what are the Color Preference settings in Photoshop? That can be accessed with Ctrl + Shift + k in Photoshop. If you can manage a screenshot of just that Preference dialog,it will help a lot.
I'll add that Windows applications are not color managed as Photoshop is. Windows and many files you see on the web are sRGB. If Photoshop's Color Workspace is set to either Adobe RGB or Pro-Photo, a regular color graphics file will show up with the colors saturated. That's because most color files do not have a tag telling Photoshop what color space it came from and Photoshop if set to other than sRGB will not display it properly.
You could set Photoshop's Working space to sRGB (North American General Defaults 2) if your pictures are intended for the web, or if you must use Adobe RGB (commercial press work),then you must tag or Assign an sRGB profile if your file has no profile assigned. If it already has a tag other than sRGB, then you make a copy and Convert it to sRGB to display properly in Windows apps.
That's a rough guess as to why your files do not display properly in CS5. Assign Profile and Convert to Profile are both under PS's Edit Menu.

Color issues - please help

i have a photosmart c6280. i've had it since early september. i am very very disappointed with it. the picture quality is terrible. with the setting at maximum, it's even worse than when set at automatic. the printouts are very washed out, with blotches on them. i cannot find any information on how to correct this issue. i am very very unhappy.

What are you printing? What paper type are you using? What driver settings? If you are printing on photo paper but have the printer set for plain paper the results will be poor. Also, if you are using some form of glossy media such as photo media make sure it is made for inkjet use. Some photo papers are compatible with inkjet inks, others are not.

You can choose a background for the text from Maps and Backgrounds. Just drag a background to the end of the timeline, adjust to desired duration then drag title above it.

Troubleshooting: Help please. Creating a PDF file from a Photoshop-designed project

I wanted to add personal design elements to my resume so I decided to use Photoshop to add in a logo and a footer. The problem is, when I converted the 3 Photoshop .psd files (3 pages) to .pdf files, the combined file came out to be very big in size. The biggest was 2.88 MB and the smallest that I got it to be without compromising the quality of the text and images was 1.48 MB.
What did I do wrong?
I've seen other .pdf files with more images and more color and definitely more pages and text which were only 300KB in size. How can I make my final .pdf file size small but still retain the quality of the original design from Photoshop?
I've tried merging the layers before saving. I've tried turning the files into .gif files before making the pdf. Into jpegs before making the pdf. Changing the canvas and image sizes in Photoshop into super small which made the final pdf file unreadable and super blurry. I'm at my wit's end.
Details:
.psd image size 8.5 by 11 inches (normal resume size)
colors - black, gray, light blue and light yellow
Images are very minimal, 4 lines total and around 5 circles at the header of the first page and footer of the 3rd page.

This is so sad. I read your comments and I said, "Huh?" Haha!
I tried the indexed color option and it did make the final file smaller. Around 600KB. But there's probably another way to make it even smaller like the gazillion-paged pdf file that I mentioned that was only about 300KB.
And by saying a layout program, does that mean like Adobe InDesign? Does that mean that I should just make my graphics in Photoshop and then import using another program and finish the file there?
What other layout programs can I use?

Hi! My "Touch" has gone haywire since a botched up date. The colour has gone from my music menu Page (eg "songs", "artists2 etc. and my Touch will now not shuffle my tracks so I have to move on manually. Help please.

An update to my Touch went haywire and I lost my music and apps but luckily I had subscribed to i Cloud and they were reinstated but my music contents page - "artists", "songs" etc. no longer has any colour and the shuffle will not work. Help please?

You have tried turingin on shuffle, right?
Try:
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

Ideally you need to boot from the disk as you have no other media advisable. (e.g your hard drive)
Without some form of system disk or restore you wont be able to diagnose the problem with your hard drive.
By using a Mac OS X system disk you can load up the Disk Utilities and repair the hard drive if shown it's available. If it's not available you would need to replace the hard drive and reinstall Mac OS. Without any disk to support you, you are going to struggle.
You can obtain replacement disk, both retail copies or system disk on the Internet.
If you know what version of Mac OS X you had install (I'm guessing that it would have been 10.3, but would recommend 10.4) A retail disk is normally black with a colored 'X' on it, while system disk are always.
Always try and obtain a copy of the system restore disks (Gray) for your iBook
Ebay is another outlet that has genuine system disk for sell, but like any auction site, it's as and when someone is selling them.
The only other thing you could do is take it to a Apple repair agent who could check the hard drive on your behalf. That way you can get confirmation if the problem is the drive or some other fault. They may even help restore the OS for you.
I can't think of anything else to try without some form of disk to help you.
There maybe just one other small thing you could try.
When booting up, firmly rest your palm of your hand on the iBook next to the tracker pad on the left side.
If it works then it's another fault that I'm aware of.

Hi any help please would really appreciate it,
i am doing these videos where some of the camera colors dont match ,i have been trying colour correctiing and going around in circles trying to get these images to match,
any suggestions(even rude ones) i would be greatful and any ideas what the cameraman has done on the right for future reference.

Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

It's working fairly well EXCEPT, and this is a big except: selectors WITHIN each fieldset should be "or" but BETWEEN fieldsets as "and"
In other words, clicking "red" and "yellow" in "color" should get you both kinds of tomatoes. This is how I set it up.
Now, if you check "class" = "heirloom" is adds all the ones that match that term, so you get more tomatoes. I would like "heirloom" to be an "AND" so the user would get yellow or red heirloom tomatoes.
Make sense?

Can't create see through text! Help please

I am very new to illustrator so please forgive me I am using CS4 on windows. So I am in search of help.I've worked in one layer, have tried a layer for the color box and another for the text, I have tried grouping the text box with the color box as well. I figure there is a step in the inital layout that I am missing, but I'm not sure. Help please!

When you have all three objects in the right order you should see:
A) The live Type (or outlined type) in black (san diego),
B) The intermediate shape, partly covered by the Type (the blue rectangle),
C) The image (the steely look).
Is that what you see? I see that.
If you select A) and B), by clicking or selecting in the Layers palette, what do you see in the Transparency palette?
If you then tick Make Opacity Mask, what do you see in the Transparnecy palette (both Clip and Invert Mask should be unticked), and what do you see on the Artboard?
Edit: Edited after seeing the video.
By the way, it makes no difference whether the image is embedded (as you mention) or linked.

HELP PLEASE! Car Charge

Hello,
Today I wasn't at home and was using my phone until the battery ran out and it switched off automatically. So I waited until I get into the car to charge it with the car charger. The car was in I think the mode where radio and lights working without engine on and I plugged the pin into my phone. I waited until the screen lights up then put it in a corner without paying attention to charge indicator. But after 5minutes after my dad switched on the engine and drove, I checked my phone and noticed no 'charging indicator'. I re-plugged but in vain, the screen remained white with NOKIA on it, so I removed battery and tried charging again but with same result. The phone didn't turn off when pressing the power button. So I removed battery again but now use the power button to try turning it on, there's the vibrate, then the white screen with NOKIA on it even after 5minutes. When the phone was off and put the plug in, there's the white screen with NOKIA and when I remove plug, it takes like 2-3 minutes for phone to turn off, horizontal colored lines appeared while the screen lights were fading away.
I have been using the car charger before on same day with no defects.
Is it because of the engine switch-on? What should I do? Was the battery damaged or my phone is doomed? Help please!!!

When you plug your car charger into the cigarette lighter socket or accessory charger point, the cars ignition key needs to be turned to the accessory position for the charger to work. If you are using a nokia charger it should have a light on the portion that goes into the cars socket, that lights up when it is receiving power from the cars battery. Usually this light will not come on until the ignition key is in the accessory position or the engine running.
It is not advisable to have the charger in the cars socket and connected to the phone when starting the cars engine. I never insert my charger into the cars socket until I have started the engine. In 99 out of 100 times you can start the engine with the charger connected to the cars socket without causing damage. But there is always that possibility. You always have to allow for the Murphy factor (I presume you understand what I mean by that).

This is with regard to creating a compound path:
I have set some white type on a circle and then created outlines. I then placed the outlined type on a black stroked ring which I then selected "outlined stroke." I then put both "outlined" graphical elements on a separate solid bkg. (all 3 are on the same layer). Lastly, I then selected the top two elements and went to "make" a "compound path" (because I want the type to be the "holes" so I can see through to the background). However, the only effect I get is the white outlined type turning black (the same color as the black ring). What am i doing wrong? I can achieve the desired result with simple boxes but it won't work with a circular type path, a stroked ring and a solid bkg.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I tried your suggestion with no success. BTW, minus front is now Subtract. Apparently, by clicking option>subtract, it works in the same way as minus front. I tried this to no avail.
Let me reiterate please.
I have 3 graphic elements-all on the same layer:
1. Background: Gold circle with a fill and no stroke.
2. Middle: Black ring (Stroked) inside gold background circle.
3. Top: White copy set on a circular type path and placed directly on top of middle black ring.
Both the middle black ring and top type path HAVE BEEN CONVERTED TO OUTLINES.
LASTLY, I select the Middle and Top, go to Compound Paths and choose "Make" and my white copy turns to black. Wrong!
WHAT I WANT TO HAPPEN: I want the white copy to become HOLES, so the GOLD background shows through.
Any solutions would be very much appreciated!
