Colorize option
Many of the tools like Hue/Saturation have a checkbox for colorize?
1. why would you use one of these tools and not want the colorize option selected?
2. it seems that the tools have a color changing effect whether this checkbox is selected or not? What is it doing if it is not selected?
Thanks.

If I don’t understand something in Photoshop I sometimes create a test file and apply it (with various settings maybe) to evaluate what the changes are.
(Edit: Actually it should rather be »If I want to get a handle on something I don’t understand in Photoshop …« because with a program like Photoshop there is likely to be stuff I don’t understand, but don’t bother to investigate …)
Have you tried this yet?
Anyway:
If one uses the Colorize option on a Hue Saturation Layer the whole of the affected region is changed to the selected color (Hue).
If one does not check this option all colors are equally moved along the Hue-circle – so when red becomes blue, blue becomes green etc.

Hi,
Please could you say where is the Hue, Saturation, Lightness effect that has colorize option in CS3 Premiere? I look under Color Correction in Effects and there is a "Color Balance (HLS)" but there is no colorize option. Thanks for your help.Sometimes you ned to apply more than one effect.

How to use color picker or RGB values in the hue-saturation colorize adjustment
I have a monochromatic adornment that I want to match to the color of a logo. I am attempting to use the colorize option of a hue saturation adjustment layer to match color. But I cannot quite get the colors to match. I know the RGB values of the color, but how do these translate into the Hue/Sat/Lightness numbers of the adjustment dialog? I tried using the correlating H/S/B values fro9m the color picker but that did not work.
Any suggestions?Thanks Zeno. Creating a layer with the color and using the blend mode worked fine. But as I stated in the original post, using the H/S/B (there is no HSL) values from the color picker does not work when you place them into the H/S/L values in the hue-adjustment layer with (or without) the colorize box checked. But your first suggestion worked like a charm. Thank you.

CS4: Black-and-White adjustment layer - no Saturation slider?
Hi. The modal dialogue for Black and White has the "Colorize" option and for that "Hue" and "Saturation" sliders.
But Black and White as an adjustment layer in the adjustments palette does NOT offer the Saturation slider. At least not in my CS4 Extended on Win XP. There is the targeted adjustment tool (TAT), but it changes color, not saturation.
Can that be or am i missing something?
Thanks!The interesting thing is that there is an colorization saturation adjustment slider in the imag-adjustment-black and white dialog as shown below.
The lack of that slider in the adjustment panel is a bug in CS4. It was present in CS3.
Adobe should fix that because it is really usefull because it's non-destructive and can be set as a preference.
The cumbersome workaround is to add a hue saturation adjustment layer. -
I make a selection and choose Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and it seems the colors are completely off when I have the colorize option selected.
Should this checkbox not be selected when changing colors this way? I know that this could also be done with an adjustment layer, I am just curious why the colors seem off.
Thanks.If your goal is to keep a full range of colors, but skew them on the spectrum, you'll want to make sure Colorize is turned off.
Colorize works by taking the average value (pure grey) and setting it to be equivalent to your new color (in the Hue/Saturation sliders). This then gets tinted and shaded (using the whites and blacks in your document). Essentially, Colorize fakes a dutotone image (the only colors will be the one you select + black). -
Color of highlighted pages in the Pages Pallet?
A new option for menu items is to change their highlighted color.
When you highlight "select" pages in the Pages Pallet... it is a light blue which is hard for me to see.
How do I find the right menu in in the menu colorization options to change this?
Thank you,If you're on a Macintosh, the highlight color is NOT set in InDesign. It's in System Preferences > General > Highlight Color.

I am trying to open my .nef raw images using PSE 10, and whenever I open an image, it is shown with a weird yellowish/brownish hue, that makes it impossible to work on. When I open the same image using other programs, the colors are normal. I have used PSE before and never had this problem, but this is a new laptop (ASUS). Any help will be greatly appreciated how to make it open in the original colors...
There are many ways to do that. One of the most straightforward is to use a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer:
Select the area you want to apply the new colour to:
Create a Hue/Saturation layer. The layer will automatically be masked to your selection. Select the "Colorize" option and change the settings of the H/S layer to suit:
The final result:

Hi,
i'm trying to create a rope under Illustrator CS5.
for that i created the usual "S" line and multiply it in order to create the rope effect.
now i would like to join 2 "S" line together to create a new shape in which i can fill with a color. In that way i will be able to create an alternated colored rope.
however i have some problem to join 2 "S" line in order to create the shape to fill.
Do you have an idea on the best method to do that ?
thx.what Jetalmage wrote set the filling color at the beginning and you can't change it later on...you have to recreate a new rope from the coloring step...
Can't understand what you're saying here. For clarity: When you create a Brush, the dialog provides a Colorization option. Using that feature allows you to change the color of a Brush Effect at the object level any time you want. So you can use one Brush to create ropes (wires, whatever) of any color. For example, note that the artwork of the Brushes shown below are all built in grayscale. The color of the individual wire insulations is applied at the object level, as you would for any ordinary stroke. Thus, the two Brushes that are applied to path 4 can be used to make a wire of any maincolor/tracecolor combination. The colorization options are described in online Help, and are even illustrated in the Brush Options dialog itself.
So no, you do not have to create a separate Brush for each color rope (if that's what you are saying).
Regarding joining paths: Join now works without having to "direct select" endpoints with the white pointer. You can just select the paths you want to join, and the Join command will join them at their nearest endpoints. You can override this by selecting the endpoints you want to join when they are not the nearest pair.

Any way to re-colorize the UI?
I have been using this gray creative suite UI for several years and I am still frequently misdirecting keystrokes or having to do extra clicks to make sure the keyboard focus is where I think it is. Are there any add-ons which will re-colorize the UI of the active window or pane and leave the inactive stuff gray? Better yet, Adobe, give me back the option to use the operating system color scheme.
Are there any add-ons which will re-colorize the UI of the active window or pane and leave the inactive stuff gray?
There can be no such tools because that is all hard-coded.
Better yet, Adobe, give me back the option to use the operating system color scheme.
Won't happen.

[Solved]Compiling audit with staticlibs options
Hi everyone, I wanted e4rat to boost my boot time on my laptop, but recent updates requires me to recompile audit with static libs:
Index» Newbie Corner» [Solved] e4rat-preload cannot work
I made a copy of the audit PKGBUILD from the repositories and altered the options as indicated
depends=(krb5 libcap-ng)
makedepends=(libldap swig linux-headers python2)
license=(GPL)
options=(emptydirs staticlibs)
but when I run makepkg, the compile message tells me that:
libtool: link: ranlib .libs/libauparse.a
/usr/bin/sed: can't read Packages/audit/src/audit-2.3.2/lib/libaudit.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `Packages/audit/src/audit-2.3.2/lib/libaudit.la' is not a valid libtool archive
Makefile:895: recipe for target 'libauparse.la' failed
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
Aborting...
but when I nagivate to the audit-2.3.2/lib/ directory, libaudit.la exists there. Am I missing out on something?

My Illustrator file is greyscale and I can't colorize it
I opened a pdf, and want to colorize / add color elements. It stubbornly remains greyscale. Changing the 'color mode' to RGB/CMYK makes no difference but that's the only document color option I've been able to find.
THANX!Well, it's pixel data and needs to be processed in a pixel-centric program like Photoshop. PDFs are just containers for a variety of data, which can incl,ude pixels, vector and editable text as well as a lot of otehr stuff.

I updated the PKGBUILD to remove the line that says 'gcc -V >&5' from the configure file
libtoolize
sed -i 's/gcc -V >&5//' configure
chmod +x configure
but it still doesn't build:

[SOLVED] Colorize text that has already been printed
I'm making a small script for personal use, whose purpose is to output the state of my cooling devices in a nice way. For now, this is what I have, and, although it may be a bit dirty, it works:
( echo 'n type max cur' ; for P in /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device* ; do echo -n "$P " | tr -d '/sys/class/thermal/cooling_device' ; cat "$P"/{'type','max_state','cur_state'} | tr '\n' ' ' ; echo ; done) | column -t
Its output, in my machine, is the following:
n type max cur
0 Processor 10 0
1 Processor 3 0
2 Fan 1 0
3 Fan 1 0
4 Fan 1 1
5 Fan 1 1
I would like to colorize the output, but using either tput or color escape codes confuses column. Looking for a way to solve this in column has not succeeded; it seems it doesn't have any option to strip escape codes, or to ignore them. So, what can I do? I've thought about modifying the already-printed text, but that doesn't seem to be a very 'elegant' solution (I can't imagine how to do it, either).
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Good readings are also welcomed.
Thanks in advance,
Kalrish
Last edited by Kalrish (2013-06-09 12:24:07)Try using printf instead of column.
#!/bin/bash
black='\e[0;30m'
red='\e[0;31m'
for d in /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device*; do
cd "$d"
x=(${d: -1:1} $(cat type max_state cur_state))
printf "${black}%2d %-10s ${red}%2d${black} %2d\n" ${x[@]}
done

Allowing option to color the buttons
as a sidethought, id love to be able to colorize items in
configurator, as i have over 70 actions and commands added to it,
all of which i use on photos. colorizing would help differentiate
them into groups better. since adobe allows it for actions, and
layers, and menu items, then certainly adding it to configurator as
well would make sense and is viable. thanks
ggI concur.
(Took me a while to notice this forum, but I guess
here’s the right place to bring stuff like that up.)
Other than color-coding the buttons I guess the option to
position an image »under« the buttons without that image
affecting the Auto Layout might be helpful. -
Which package colorizes the output of dmesg
I have colored output of dmesg on my desktop just by typing "dmesg" but it is not colored on my laptop. Which package is doing that?
Check the output of 'type dmesg' and 'type -p dmesg' on the computer that has colored output.
man dmesg wrote: -L, --color[=when]
Colorize important messages (enabled by default). The optional argument when can be auto, never
or always. If the when argument is omitted, it defaults to auto.
dmesg is provided by util-linux package. Are both using the same version?
Edit: Tooo laaate,
I think it's a recent change, as I haven't changed anything on my system an now just typing 'dmesg' gives me colored output.
util-linux 2.24.2-1 is just black'n'white.
