Colors are screwed up after export / import h264/avc

Assume we have created some raw colors with AE. And exported the file with h264/avc codec (see the picture).
I understand that exporting with chroma 4:2:0 can change the colors a little. It's ok. We play the file with local video player, RGB values are 1-2% away from original, it's not critical.
But what I don't understand is - why re-encoding the file to h.264/avc with Adobe Media Encoder as standalone application leaves all the colors 100% correct, but if I will import the file to Premiere or AE, colors are visibly screwed up?
Then export composition to h264/avc with the same settings as stand alone encoder and the colors are screwed up one more time by 1-2%!
Am I doing something wrong? How to keep the colors when importing?

Either the good old H.264 Gamma problem or simple quantization errors which you might probably avoid by working in 16bpc or 32bpc. Also keep in mind that AE can use color management and you may already see those differences when setting the comp viewer proofing to you monitor profile. Generally, though, such color issues are extremely difficult to track down. Things like your graphics hardware's acceleration features, VLCs selected decode method, color profiles and other color tweaks can influence this, both in mere perception of colors as well as actually skewing them. Start by working in higher bit-depths when re-importing files into AE and tippi-toe your way to the aforementioned color management stuff and so on...

  • Colors are printing incorrectly when exported to PDF but print fine from InDeisgn and Photoshop

    Documents I create in Photoshop and InDesign and export to PDF print in different/wrong colors. The colors are fine when printed directly from Photoshop or InDesign, they look correct when viewing the PDF, but change when printed from the PDF (specifically blues print as purple). How do I fix this?

    This really sounds like a color management issue.
    How are you creating the PDF files from InDesign or Photoshop? We recommend using the PDF/X-4 settings for proper printing from Acrobat or any direct PDF RIP/printer.
    Also would like to know what type of printer you are printing to.

  • Pictures are thumbnail size after project import

    I imported a project from my external drive and some of the pictures in this project are normal in size but others appear the size of thumbnails. When double-clicking on them or pressing the F key they stay that thumbnail size in the viewer and I would like to get them to normal size. Please help.

    Thanx for answering "jinpack". The story is a little more complicated. My aperture libraries were not opening and I took the external hard drive to the Apple Store to a lady that is Aperture Certified. Bought a brand new external drive after running some tests on the older drive and on the MacBookPro. All tests appeared normal. So she right-clicked the projects and selected "Show package contents" and dragged them to the new external drive. I am not sure if she consolidated the libraries or if she did anything else but I returned yesterday and of course she was on vacation. Si I'll have to wait.
    I just went back to the old external drive where the libraries were (still are) and some of the pictures in that project were missing and they were there before. A lot of these are present in the new external drive but appear as small (I call them) thumbnail sized. I guess if I cannot find the master RAW images I can always go to master JPEGs.
    I really appreciate your help.

  • Editing contacts in gmail after export/import from Palm Desktop is a messy affair

    So far, from what I can see, my contacts are synchronizing well between the Pre and my gmail contacts list.  Being easily amused, I guess it's pretty slick the way it works.  But exporting them from Palm Desktop and importing them into the gmail contacts list was just a jumbled mess.  Almost none of the actual fields from PD mapped correctly to the gmail fields, so all of my info got lumped into the "notes" field in gmail.
    It's easier and faster to edit them in gmail than on the Pre, so that's what I've been doing...fixing about 300 contacts one at a time.  You can cut/copy/paste the info from the notes field into the correct data field.  But there's one really weird thing that happens if you try to drag-and-drop info, say a telephone number or an address, from the notes field into its own field above.  The data appears to move over.  But once you save the change, anything you dragged into its own field disappears.  Trying to go through the list quickly, I didn't notice this strangeness until I had gone through a large enough number of my contacts to really make me swear.

    smkranz,
     I had a similar mess to clean up.  I figured that Google's contacts would work better with an import from Outlook and a direct export from Palm Desktop 4.x or 6.x.  I used Chapura's Pocket Copy to push my Palm Desktop 4.2 data into Outlook, and then exported my data from Outlook and into Google contacts.  I followed Google's directions for that part.  I still had to review my 400 or so contacts and do some mop up, but it wasn't a total train wreck.
     Glad to hear that you did get a Pre.  Welcome to the club.  Now we have to work on WyreNut.

  • Shaded areas on PDF after exporting from Indesign

    Hello, I'm working on booklets for work using Indesign. So far most of the information in the booklet have been placed by PDF files. My supervisor sent me another PDF he would like added to the booklet. My problem is when I placed the PDF onto the page it looks fine but once I export the booklet from Indesign to PDF you see shaded areas on the page. This has never happened before and I can't seem to fix it. Does anyone have any ideas?

    So the sidebar frame is a native ID text frame? I see two shaded areas inthe screen shot that interect that sidebar, and neither of them seems really related to it in any way.
    Are you willing to share the file with me for examination?

    Be sure to look up the definition of every word you don't fully understand.  Never read past a word you don't know the meaning of, get it defined.  And it's not always just the technical words people have a hard time with.  A good rule of thumb is that if you can't come up with a definition in three seconds, you really need to look it up.  I recommend the following site:
    OneLook Dictionary Search
    Another tip is to learn things in the proper sequence.  It makes no sense to learn how to use a camera's iris if you don't even know how to turn it on yet.  So start at the beginning and go in order.
    Finally, test out each new thing as you learn it.

  • Autonumber in a Sequence after Export/Import

    Hi,
    I have a sequence running in a DB, which increments an ID field. The problem comes up, when I need to backup/restore the DB. What I need then is a SQL script, which would allow me to set the MinValue to the max used value +1 (or + 100). Unfortunately something like
    Create Sequence XXX.Mytable
    Increment by 1
    MinValue (SELECT MAX(COUNTERID) from XXX.Mytable);
    MaxValue 1E+27
    Cache 20;
    does not work. So what is best practise to handle this case. I found many people posting this question, but no simple answer. Does anybody have one?
    Thank you in advance
    Pawel

    Hi Pawel,
    I would suggest creating a SQL Procedure and construct a string that would create the sequence and then use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE to create the sequence. Something like:
    DECLARE
    vMaxID NUMBER(10,0);
    vSQL VARCHAR2(1000);
    BEGIN
    SELECT MAX(COUNTERID) INTO vMaxID FROM MyTable;
    vSQL := "CREATE SEQUENCE COUNTERID_SEQ MINVALUE " || TO_CHAR(vMaxID) || " MAXVALUE 99999999999999999999999 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH " || TO_CHAR(vMaxID) || " NOCACHE NOORDER NOCYCLE;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE vSQL;
    END;

    Andy

  • Export/Import Project still buggy in v2.1.3

    After seeing the update notes for v2.1.3 and noticing references to project importing, I started to get excited that maybe the bugs have been ironed out. Unfortunately my longstanding bug still remains.
    If anyone can think of any workarounds I'd be extremely grateful...
    I have a 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM, running OS X 10.5.6 and now Aperture 2.1.3
    I have a project with many images, arranged into stacks, a pick in each stack with many adjustment and a 62-page book created from these picks. There are also some smart albums and a light-table.
    Now I export the project (i.e. in the Project Inspector I right-click the project and choose Export > Project) to a file on the desktop and rename the existing project in Aperture. I now import the saved .approject file and I find that all my Picks are no longer Picks and my book is therefore no longer made up of my desired images. (I've tried this many times now and ruled out the possibility of a corrupt export file).
    As a result, when I select the Book I get the "Non-Pick Images" dialog with the dreaded "One or more placed items are no longer the pick of a stack." message. "Use Current Pick" ruins the book - I have to go through and work out all the picks again (and also re-pan all the images within the Photo Boxes as this data has also been lost). "Create new Version" appears to preserve my book's original look, but my project now contains a couple of hundred more images than it used to and my other albums and light-table still have incorrect images shown as the Picks.
    Does anybody have any ideas of what I can do to ensure the stack-picks are preserved during the export/import process?
    (By the way, the reason I'm exporting and then re-importing is because I actually want to do the export from my laptop where the project is and then the import on my main work machine where the rest of my Aperture library lives, but that fails for the same reason, so I'm doing the export+import on my laptop for now to reduce the number of variables in the problem.)

    I go with the assumption that you now know how to create transport sets. After having created a transport set containing the objects you want to be exported, go to the administer tab under the main page of portal. There you will find the Export/Import portlet. Here you need to choose your transport set from the first LOV and then click EDIT to choose the "Security Option". Now you export out the stuff. This will export all the user page customizations for you.
    Thanks.

  • How to Export/Import a batch job

    Hi there,
    I am wondering if there is/are transaction that can export/import a background job(s). Because, one of our production background jobs got deleted somehow and we have same job that sits in QA system, so we want to export that background jobs and import to Production system, since it has around 70+ steps
    Thanks
    Kumar

    I'm not sure
    but if these jobs can be put in a request and.. then transport..
    U can try..

  • PDFs dull in Acrobat after exporting from Indesign - again

    Hi folks,
    I am aware of a previous post which discussed this issue which was apparently resolved, but it appears to have reared its ugly head again. The problem - since updrading to Mavericks and the Creative Cloud, pdfs in Acrobat are very dull after export from Indesign and it is not a transparency blend or Indesign issue. I understand Adobe blamed Apple for not updating their colour management software and the reply from Adobe was:
    "We have found the root cause of this issue and are in process of providing a fix. Once this is done, we will test it to make sure that it works as expected and will release an update patch for all our users."
    I am running the latest version or everything but it appears to still be a problem. I have also uninstalled Acobat XI and tried earlier versions without success. I have a print job to send off tomorrow and I am very nervous about how this will print.

    Sorry about that, I apparently forgot to attach the file; have done so now.
    The method I'm using for creating outlines is simply to use the "Create Outlines" command under the Type menu within InDesign. Then I create my PDF files by using the Export command under the File menu and choosing the PDF/X1a option. 99% of the time I get perfect results, it's only when I try to make outline type that I encounter this problem. You'll clearly see the artifacts in question in the example attached.
    I don't know whether or not the press would have printed these artifacts, as you suggest, since no printer has been willing to execute a file that shows any anomaly in the proof process. I can't say that I blame them.
    Hopefully you will see what I'm talking about and can recommend a solution, though I like your idea of simply giving them a properly executed file and then telling them to get a life. It hasn't worked so far, as I unfortunately deal with a lot of Neanderthals around here, but I suppose it's worth putting forth again the next time this issue arises. It will.
    By the way, no print house of my choosing is this far behind the curve, if at all. These cavemen are always printers who have long-standing relationships with my clients, and for whatever reason (generally lowest cost I'm sure), the clients think they hung the moon. We, of course, no otherwise, but it does it profit a designer to tell his client he or she is crazy for using a printer who is a decade behind the technology curve.
    We cowboy up and seek solutions, eh?

  • Page export/import problem

    Hi,
    I am getting a problem when i try to export and import a
    portal page from one schema to other. I have two schemas
    installed in the same database. I am able to export and import a
    user defined oracle portal page from schema1 to schema2. The
    problem is page is not importing portlets in that page. The page
    contains some oracle provided portlets and some user defined
    portlets. Oracle defined portlets are getting imported
    successfully. But user defined portlets are not. Can any body
    tell me what could be the problem.
    The environment i am using is:
    Oracle9iAd v1.0.2.2
    Oracle9iAS portal v3.0.9
    JPDK v3.0.9.0.1
    Rgds,
    Hari.

    Hi,
    what method are you using to export/import pages?
    If you are using COPY method than you should not have problems
    with portlets on the page as long as new user have privileges for
    a new page. I copied pages with user defined pl/sql portlets and
    all of them working fine.
    Let me know if you need more help.

  • Exporting to h264 - color madness

    Hi,
    i am trying to overcome color matching issues and did some tests with Motion 4.0.3 now.
    (On 10.6.4, macPro 8core 2008)
    Basic setup: Have an empty scene with a green background set to RGB (0,93,40).
    *First attempt - direkt import:*
    1. Export directly from motion to h264
    2. reimport the just made movie and make a check with a colorpicker.
    3. In my case the colors are way off, showing a value of RGB(17,19,43)
    *2nd attempt - using share and send to compressor*
    1. use share and send to compressor
    2. in Compressor use the standard Quicktime h264 setting
    3. Result is even worse
    *3rd attempt, only use Compressor*
    1. Export the scene as Prores 422 HQ
    2. Reimport that to motion, make a color check, colors are the same (in my case)
    3. Use the Prores Clip in Compressor, use standard Quicktime h264 setting and export.
    4. reimport the h264 to motion, make a color picker check
    5. Bingo, in my case this is almost the same now with RGB (0,93,41) instead of RGB (0,93,40).
    Question: Why is that? It takes the double time to first write Prores and then use Compressor.
    Is that a gamma issue? I tried to check that by changing the media settings gamma of a reimported testfile, so that i get a almost close result by eye - but the color picker sees the difference.
    Any info is greatly appreciated

    H.264 always affects color. Color information is greatly compressed in H.264. I am not surprised that after throwing away tons and tons of info, then attempting to re-constitute it, you see some shifting. H.264 is a web delivery format.
    And it's not "double time" to export first as ProRes - that would be considered the "rendering". Then you compress that. If you try to go out H.264 directly, you're trying to "render" and "compress" at the same time. It's usually faster to do it sequentially. (One reason being that if Compressor is doing best compression, it makes two passes thru the material. If it is not rendered, it must render it twice. If it's already rendered, it's only a file read - much faster).
