Colour by series in combination and column charts

I am trying to create combination charts and column charts where each column or line in the charts can be assigned its own colour. This can be acheived by using the "By Series" option in the properties "General" tab. However, when this approach is taken, all the columns are grouped in the middle of the chart, with large ammounts of unused space on the left and right of the columns. Usual behavior with other charting programs is that the columns start from the left hand margin. Indeed, this is the case if I choose the "By Range" option, but then all the columns are the same coluor, and individual column and line colours can not be changed. Anybody got any ideas on how to resolve this please.

Hi Darrell,
Here's an example using COUNTIF. I've moved the count to a separate table. Table names are shown above each table:
Formula:
Summary::B2, and filled down to B6: =COUNTIF(Main :: $A,"<"&A3)-COUNTIF(Main :: $A,"<"&A2)
Note that A7 must contain a numberlrger than the starting number for the last category you are recording.
B7 should be left empty.
Row 1 on each table is a Header Row.
Regards,
Barry

    (mx.collections::ArrayCollection)#0
    filterFunction = (null)
    length = 15
    list = (mx.collections::ArrayList)#1
    length = 15
    source = (Array)#2
    [0] (mpcui::EcecObject)#3
    currencySymbol = ".25"
    dateCollected = (null)
    deviceID = "KWH"

    perUnitRate = NaN
    unit = "Dollar"
    So if we see in the attribute "currencySymbol" the "perUnitRate" is poulated even if my handler code has the following statement
    metricData.currencySymbol=dp.data[i]['CurrencySymbol'];
    Want to know why the data is swaped in most of the cases. Any correction to be done in the handler code.
    Appreciate your help.
    Regards
    Anand.

    The design depends on how much data you are having. If you have lot of data its better to use them separately.
    When you create a cube you load historical data from source systems through a full load and later you will be doing delta loads to process new records.
    As for as the data is conccerned a cube can contain both historical and transaction data.

  • Stacked Column Chart (Total and Combination Chart)

    Hi,
    I tried to find the answer at old posting, but failed to find proper solution.
    So here I go again with the same old problems:
    1. Any method / trick to display total on top of each stacked column ?
        (Label is not an option, since it is static and will not move following the height of the stacked bar).
    2. Any method / trick to combine stacked column chart with line chart ?
        (Overlay is not an option, because I think it is too tedious to play around with color and border)
    Thanks for the bandwidth.
    Regards.
    NB: Are there any XCelcius add-on for those 2 functions ?

    Hi Yudie,
    Can you get compromised in the following way ?
    In the X Axis labels, you can get the values concatenated dynamically and displayed. Example given below:
    2008          2009          2010
    P180         P250         P280
    A172        A263         A265
    Whereas P denotes to Plan and A denodes Actuals.  Above to this labels stacked colum wil be there as usual.
    Consider and revert, in case you need any more clarification on this.
    Keep posting.
    With best wishes

  • [Forum FAQ] How do I add an average line to series group on SQL Server Reporting Services column chart?

    Introduction
    In SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS), you may need an average value on column chart.
    For the above chart, add an average score line to the chart, you can get which student’s score is larger than average score, and which student’s score is less than average score clearly. This document demonstrates how to add an average line to series groups
    on SSRS column chart.
    Solution
    To achieve this requirement, you can add another values to the chart, change the chart type to line chart. Set the value to average value of the series group and set the line to show only once by using expression. Please refer to the link below to see the
    detail steps.
    Click the chart to display the Chart Data pane.
    Add Score field to the Values area.
    Right-click the new inserted Score1 and select Change Chart Type. And then change chart type to line chart in the Select Chart Type window.
    Change the Category Group name to Subject. Here are the screenshot for you reference.
    Right-click the new inserted Score1 and select Series Properties.
    Click the expression button on the right of Value field textbox, type the expression below:
    =Avg(Fields!Score.Value,"Subject"))
    Click Visibility in the left pane, select “Show or hide based on an expression”, and type in the expression below:
    =IIF(Fields!Name.Value="Rancy",FALSE,TRUE)
    Name in the expression is one of the Students. Then only one line chart is be displayed by using this expression.
    Click Legend in the left pane, type Average_Score to the Custom legend text box.
    The report looks like below:
    Applies to
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012

    Thanks,
    Is this a supported scenario, or does it use unsupported features?
    For example, can we call exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'
    in a supported way?

  • Chart Web Part - Stacked Column Chart and the Y Field

    I am trying to create  a stacked chart in Sharepoint.
    I am encountering a problem at the "Bind Chart to Data" Step. Retrieval of Data goes without a hitch - all rows and columns are captured and shown, but then when it comes to adding series, the "Y Field" drop down menu only shows one of
    my columns. So of course, the final chart only has one data series visible - a normal column chart instead of a stacked one.
    What could be the cause of this, and how do I fix it?

    Yes, that's right. That is exactly what I want to do.
    But, the problem I'm facing is that when it comes time to select the second series settings as:
    The second Series settings:
    Series Name: Oranges
    Series Type: StackedColumn
    Series X-Axis Type: Primary
    Series Y-Axis Type: Primary
    X Field: Day
    Specifically >>>>Y Field: Oranges
    The Y-field option which appears as
    a drop-down menu on the page, does NOT show the option "Oranges". It shows only "Apples" again, and also a blank setting (selecting this also does not cause desired graph to get created).
    I want to know HOW to be able to select "Oranges" as the Y-field because I am unable to do so!

  • 100% Stacked Column Chart

    Hi,
    We have a requirement where we have to represent data in 100% stacked column chart, the value on y-axis is the % value and the value on the column is the actual value (like # ).
    For suppose data is like
          Actual data      % values
    A     20    80          20%   80%
    B    100   100        50%  50%
    C     120    40         75% 25%
    Can any one plz suggest me the way to represent in xcelsius as a 100% stacked column chart.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    I think it's impossible to bind the series of a Stacked Column Chart to the percentage (20% 80%) while displaying the actual values on mouse-over in Xcelsius 2008. Is this what you want?
    My suggestion is to use a Single Value component such as a Gauge or a Label to display the actual value on mouse over, to simulate the same effect as you want. To do this, set Interaction Option of the Stacked chart to Insert On Mouse Over, and for each series, insert the actual value to a cell in the embedded spreadsheet. Your sample data has 2 series, so they insert to 2 cells in the spreadsheet, as you cannot insert the actual value of 2 series into the same cell.
    The Gauge is used to display the actual value of the currently mouse-over item. For this, you need 2 History component to track the change of either of the 2 cells, and insert to the same range. The Gauge then can be bound to the last cell of the Data Destination of the History components.
    I have tried it out and if you want, I can send the source file to you.
    Thanks,
    Ray

  • Combining Column and Line charts

    I'm trying to put together a composite graph, consisting of
    both LineSeries and Column Series, for a financial page. I'm
    rendering the entire graph inside of a ColumnChart. However, when
    multiple points for the lineseries are close together, the
    mouse-over only displays a single dataTip. When working in a
    LineChart, multiple dataTips are displayed for any points close
    together or on top of each other; is there any (preferably simple!)
    way to replicate that functionality in a ColumnChart?
    Thanks!

    And to make it even more fun, I just know discovered that
    interpolateValues="false" does not seem to function properly within
    a columnChart. Does anyone know a workaround for this
    problem?

  • SSRS show trend chart over column chart per series groups

    Need help in designing following report in SSRS, where I have a chart report with 2 category grouping fields and 1 series group field (as with category grouping, the reason being, i need to show columns in group of 4 joined together based on their grouping
    on top) .
    Below are my queries
    1. how to show my category grouping values on top of chart (showing group in different color) and series grouping values on bottom of chart (under each bar)
    2. I need to show trend line over each series group data.
    For example, First category group is over hotel name, second category group is over room type (deluxe, executive & suite) and one Series group over week number (for a month report), and the chart value is total occupancy (per hotel per room type per week
    number). Now for point 1, Hotel name and room type needs to be on top of the column (total occupancy) chart, where a week iteration number (1,2,3,4 for a month) at the bottom of the chart under every column.
    And for point 2, I need to show trend line per room per week occupancy was improved or not.
    Regards, Sujay

    Hi Sujay,
    According to your description, you want to display the two category group values at the top of the total occupancy value. Also you want to create a trend line over series values.
    For your first requirement, you can specify the Label data as a combination of two category group values and total occupancy values. Then change the location of series group value legend. Please refer to below screenshot.
    For your second requirement, you can add additional total occupancy values to the Chart Data panel, then change the chart type as Smooth Line.
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • How do you combine a stacked column chart with a clustered column chart

    Hello,
    I am trying to combine a stacked column chart with a clustered column chart. I know that in Excel there is a way to trick that described on the next site: http://people.stfx.ca/bliengme/ExcelTips/Columns.htm
    Is that possible with BI Publisher?
    Thank you very much!
    Codruta Crisan

    Finally I get it myself:
    You need to use graph type as BAR_VERT_STACK2Y and the declare the series that you want to see on the first Y vertical bar as assignedToY2="false" and the ones that you wanr to see on the second Y vertical bar as assignedToY2="true".
    In my case I use 4 Series, 2 stack on the first clustured column and 2 stacked on the second (2Y) clustured colum....see below
    graphType="BAR_VERT_STACK2Y">
    <SeriesItems>
    <Series id="0" assignedToY2="false" color="#BBD6E7"/>
    <Series id="1" assignedToY2="false"/>
    <Series id="2" assignedToY2="true" color="#004A96"/>
    <Series id="3" assignedToY2="true"/>
    </SeriesItems>

  • Lines and shading on stacked column chart

    I have created a waterfall chart using a stacked column chart.  I have made Series 1 white so that the bars appear to "float" .  So far so good.  the issue is that the white bars in the default setting have light shading and lines around the outsides.  There seems ot be no way to turn that off.  The only solution I found was to change the Theme to ITheme.  Then the shading and lines go away and I can change the colours how I want them...but of course that theme is now applied to my whole dashboard and I lose all the nice shading effects on the other elements.
    Surely all the themes do is apply formatting that must be possible to do manually...I just cant see any option on a stacked column chart to change the shading or lines round the boxes.  I have an example chart I can share if required
    Any suggestions gratefully received!
    Thanks
    Tom

    Creating a custom chart is not a simple thing (think days, not minutes), and not done within Xcelsius. The group of technologies to do this are referred to as the Xcelsius SDK, there is a dedicated forum on this site here: Flex SDK Development

  • SSRS 2008 Column Chart with Calculated Series (moving average) "formula error - there are not enough data points for the period" error

    I have a simple column chart grouping on 1 value on the category axis.  For simplicity's sake, we are plotting $ amounts grouping by Month on the category axis.  I right click on the data series and choose "Add calculated series...".  I choose moving average.  I want to move the average over at least 2 periods.
    When I run the report, I get the error "Formula error - there are not enough data points for the period".  The way the report is, I never have a guaranteed number of categories (there could be one or there could be 5).  When there is 2 or more, the chart renders fine, however, when there is only 1 value, instead of suppressing the moving average line, I get that error and the chart shows nothing.
    I don't think this is entirely acceptable for our end users.  At a minimum, I would think the moving average line would be suppressed instead of hiding the entire chart.  Does anyone know of any workarounds or do I have to enter another ms. connect bug/design consideration.
    Thank you,
    Dan

    I was having the same error while trying to plot a moving average across 7 days. The work around I found was rather simple.
    If you right click your report in the solution explorer and select "View Code" it will give you the underlying XML of the report. Find the entry for the value of your calculated series and enter a formula to dynamically create your periods.
    <ChartFormulaParameter Name="Period">
                      <Value>=IIf(Count(Fields!Calls.Value) >= 7 ,7, (Count(Fields!Calls.Value)))</Value>
    </ChartFormulaParameter>
    What I'm doing here is getting the row count of records returned in the chart. If the returned rows are greater than or equal to 7 (The amount of days I want the average) it will set the points to 7. If not, it will set the number to the amount of returned rows. So far this has worked great. I'm probably going to add more code to handle no records returned although in my case that shouldn't happen but, you never know.
    A side note:
    If you open the calculated series properties in the designer, you will notice the number of periods is set to "0". If you change this it will overwrite your custom formula in the XML.

  • Display column values as a series/legend on a line chart where one column value can be more than one category

    Hi Everyone
    I don't know if this is possible or not, so I will describe it. I have a column in a table called Filing. There are currently three values in it ("Abuse", "Neglect", "Voluntary") and each record has this populated. I also have
    the below slicer for the column also.
    I would like to add a fourth value called "Abuse/Neglect" that would identify instances where both an Abuse and Neglect petition was filed, which is a subset of the Abuse and Neglect records in the Filing column.
    My question is, is it possible to create a line chart that has the 4 Filing possibilities: "Abuse", "Neglect", "Voluntary", "Abuse/Neglect" as the Series/Legend in the line chart?
    The problem is that there are records that are more than one category: Abuse or Neglect records can also be Abuse/Neglect.
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
    According to your description, there is a column with the values ("Abuse", "Neglect", "Voluntary") in your table, now what you need to is that add another value "Abuse/Neglect" in this column, and then use it
    as Series/Legend in the line chart, right?
    In this case, you can add calculated column to your table based on your logic. A calculated column is a column that you add to an existing PowerPivot table. Instead of pasting or importing values in the column, you create a DAX formula that defines
    the column values. The calculated column can be used in a PivotTable, PivotChart, or Power View report as you would any other data column. Please refer to the link below to see the details.

  • Problem with mouse-over value on a column chart (by Series)

    Hi.
    First of all thanks for any offered tip.
    I am having a problem with a column chart.
    When I move the mouse over a column it should show a small pop-up (or tip) with the column name (series name) and the value (series value). The problem is that it displays an extra '1' just like the following:
    SeriesName
    1
    X.XXX
    How can I remove the extra '1' and only show the name and the value ?
    The data is populated by series (manually added).
    Mihai.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the tip Shanthakumar KA.
    Yes. It looks like the '1' is coming from the X Axis labels. The chart that I have built does not require any labels on the X Axis, so this was not set (X-Axis labels: Empty). I tried setting this to an empty cell, but the '1' still appears in the mouse-over tip.
    It is very weird. If I leave the X-Axis labels empty, I still get the '1' displayed which is very annoing.
    Are there any solutions for this except the re-building the tip with a label a.k.a. '[customize the mouse over values|http://xcelsiusandme.blogspot.com/2009/07/xm-sample-7-customizing-mouse-over.html].'
