Combine Adobe AIR frontend and XCode backend?!

Hi all,
I am fairly new to the Adobe AIR and the whole ActionScript/Flash development,
so please do not judge me so hard. Before the question a little background, I have
developed an application in XCode (Objective C) for Mac OS X, the same application
was parallelly implemented for windows as well so, now we are looking into the
possibilities to have only one user interface for both and we are considering using
the Adobe AIR for this purpose. The question is how do I integrate the already
existing XCode project to the new Adobe AIR (it is a flex project really, developed
on flash builder ide) interface?
Thank you in advance for any hints!
Best Regards
Lubo

This idea is obsolete, I didn't work it out in detail may be if someone else has tried it can post some sample code, I will be most interested. Till then I will mark it as resolved

How to get the data from mysql database which is being accessed by a PHP application and process the data locally in adobe air application and finally commit the changes back in to mysql database through the PHP application.

If the data is on a remote server (for example, PHP running on a web server, talking to a MySQL server) then you do this in an AIR application the same way you would do it with any Flex application (or ajax application, if you're building your AIR app in HTML/JS).
That's a broad answer, but in fact there are lots of ways to communicate between Flex and PHP. The most common and best in most cases is to use AMFPHP (http://amfphp.org/) or the new ZEND AMF support in the Zend Framework.
This page is a good starting point for learning about Flex and PHP communication:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/flex_php.html
Also, in Flash Builder 4 they've added a lot of remote-data-connection functionality, including a lot that's designed for PHP. Take a look at the Flash Builder 4 public beta for more on that: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashbuilder4/

  • Adobe AIR installation and testing

    Hi,
Can anyone say why Adobe AIR does not function correctly in
    my PC
(Vista Home Premium). When I try to run a test application
    after installation
through AIR SDK command-line tool (adl AIRHelloWorld.xml),
console window opens but shuts down immediately and the test
    html-file
is not shown at all. Has anyone any idea about the cause of
    this problem?
    Regards,
    Matti

"How are you going about running adl? .."
I, indeed, first open a command window (Start/Run..) and then
write the following command text: "adl AIRHelloWorld.xml" and
then I execute. But the opening window does not remain open,
but gets closed right away after popping up, so I do not have
    change
    to see any error messages.
And I did everything what was instructed in the manual
    (Adobe® AIR™
for JavaScript DevelopersPocket Guide) concerning the
    "Installing of Adobe AIR

  • Adobe AIR - Performance and Android O.S Features

    Hello everybody,
I am a new comer on the Mobile Development world but I'm a very experient Flex Developer. I'll be diving on the mobile world on the next few days and I have some concerns that I would like like to bring up on this discussion.
As a Flex developer I have no doubt that migrating my knowledges to the AIR Mobile will be much more smooth than if I try to go into the Android OS or iOS, although it's great and exciting as well. Also, the possibilty to have the same code working on several platforms such as iOS, Android and Blackberry is something really amazing and that makes me really love the AIR Platform. However according with my thoughts (hope I'm wrong), I believe it also has some drawbacks that I would like hear in further from you guys who are the real specialists.
    1. Performance: No doubt that Adobe AIR has been improving performance and sensitiveness in each new version launched and honestly the new version 2.6 seemed me very smooth and sleek. However, how much is it performatic comparing to the native Android code. 20% less fast, 40%? How much is that? How it behaves in a application which performance is an issue such as a game application for instance?
    2. API features: Android is an OS in constant evolution and that changes very offen. How adobe is planning to keep developers updated with the last features and functionality of the Android OS and which features are currently supported? What is the percentage in compatibility? What is not covered?
    Please share your experience.
I really would love to hear from the Adobe Engineers
Thank you in advance for your time!

If you have a android you can download "tour de Flex" here:
    https://market.android.com/details?id=air.adobe.flex.TourDeMobileFlex
And if you are interrest about Molehill on Mobile, juste go and see the video here:
    http://www.bytearray.org/?p=3053
My opinion, the part that are not sufficiently advanced, is the Camera about Recording and play Video effectively without use UICamera.
PS: You can record and play sound with your mic.

  • Adobe AIR embedded in Xcode/Objective C

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to embed AIR into an objective c native application, rather than having the app written purely in AIR? Even better if it can be done from xamarin for cross platform.

Well, I guess you mixed something up... The ONLY apps (except for bookmaklets) are IPA files. You can export an Xcode file from within Zinc and within Zinc you are able to import Flash files.
A file needs to be compiled before it can run on an iPhone, Windows8 phone or Andriod – this has nothing to do with Xcode, exept that Xcode can compile that file (as well as Unity or Flash or...).

  • Questions about Adobe AIR and FLV license model

I'm currently looking for a game development framework which I can use for a fan-project in my spare time and also for commercial projects for the company I'm working for.
I think that the Citrus Engine which is open source and based on Apache Flex/Adobe AIR/Starling/Away3D/Box2d/Nate might be a good choice.
But I'm really confused about the license model of Adobe AIR and its runtime distribution.
Do I have to pay a license fee or royalties for my games (which include the AIR runtime in order to be stand-alone-apps) when I publish them?
If so, how much are these license fees/royalties?
Does this also concern free apps?
What is the name of the license which I would have to request from Adobe in order to publish my games?
Do I need several licenses when publishing an app on multiple AppStores (Apple/Google/Amzaon) or desktop distribution platforms (Steam/GOG)?
Are there further licensing obstacles which I have to keep in mind when using Flex/AIR for (commercial) game development?
By the way - the FAQ on the product page (http://www.adobe.com/products/air/faq.html) isn't really helping on this topic:
"How much does Adobe AIR cost?" -> "The Adobe AIR runtime and AIR SDK are free for most users."
This answer leaves me with the question: Am I belonging to the "most users" or not?
Therefore it isn't meaningful at all.
I'm also thinking about adding short video sequences as FLVs to the games.
If I understood correctly H.264 and MP3 are currently used as a standard for these video files but aren't free.
Is there a free alternative available for FLVs which can be used in combination with Adobe AIR?
Or did I get something wrong here and don't need to worry about getting sued when using these formats?
Thank you in advance for answering my numerous questions.

    That's true.
I'm using a Dell Studio 1537 with 3GB of RAM and Intel Core 2 Duo and it's quick in Lr

    1. Reinstalling the Windows 7 (32bit).

  • Can't update Adobe AIR after Yosemite update and need it for a third-party app.

I updated to Yosemite and had some issues. After receiving help from Apple, I could not open a third-party app; it said I needed to update Adobe AIR. When I tried to do that, I got the same message saying I needed to update AIR again. I tried uninstalling and installing AIR but without success. What steps do I need to take?

I had a similar problem when trying to install Zinio.air. I have made it all work out. What i did was remove Adobe Air 15 entirely from the Utiliites and Library/ accounts and preferences. I then downloaded Adobe Air 13 and installed and then clicked on Zinio .air and it all installed ok. I also had to temporarily change security settings from Apple approved to Anywhere. All functioning now.

  • Install and test of Adobe Air on Mac OS X did not go well

I downloaded and installed Adobe Air onto my Mac OS X 10.5.5
machine. I then downloaded about six different Adobe Air apps, and
tried to start each one in the usual way (double clicking on them).
The error message I got in each case is the following:
    "Adobe Apollo
This application requires a version of the Adobe Apollo
runtime which is no longer supported. Please contact the
application author for an updated version."
I wonder what the odds are for me to have picked, out of the
30 example apps, the six that don't work?

  • AIR package size & and why Adobe AIR rules..

Here is one for all the flash dooms-dayers:
I just published my app Gig Ink to Amazon App store. My app is now on iTunes for iPad/iPhone/iPod, Android Market for over 460 phones and tablets, and soon for Blackberry and desktop for mac/pc/linux with no runtime needed as I use captive runtime to package. And soon I will have access to Stage3D using the GPU to render full 3D content AND with Native Extensions I can do In-App billing, native notifications etc..
Every one of them is the same 1 project in Flash Builder, same code, works landscape/portrait/phone/tablet etc. etc. etc.
If I tried to do that with native code I would have to employ 5 separate developers and pay them heaps and anytime a change or update occurs... no way.
Honestly are people thick? Doesn't anyone get how awesome this is, considering the massive and constant changes to web development recently?
I hope Adobe know how important Flash Builder/AIR/AS3 is to a lot of developers now focusing on apps and keep making it better. My No 1 request? Reduce the file size of packaged AIR for captive runtime, possible allow us to select only dependant classes? Any suggestions? Is this an issue others think important?
    Cheers
    Blackmarketbear Mobile

I totally agree with blackmarketbear !!
Developing for mobile devices using Adobe AIR, Flex and Flash Builder brings exceptionnal productivity, and reduces a lot development cost !! =D
However, the only drawback to this is the final packaged file size which won't let users download the app via 3G on Apple Store...
This is such a big issue i think since our last client wanted his app to be downloadable via 3G ... =(
I hope Adobe is working on this point, it is really important and if no improvment is made, i might fall into another development solution (native development with Java and Objective-C ...)

  • What is Adobe AIR (And why should I develop in it)

I'm just wonderi ng what Adobe AIR is, and how I could use it in my Flash Development. In the main properties of my flash project I can select which player to run it on, and AIR is available in that list. I haven't tried it yet. But what do I gain out of using it. Can I just switch to Adobe AIR while still using all of my Actionscript 3.0 code? Does it add any new API's I can use for Actionscript 3.0 or is it an entirely different language?

probably, but not necessarily.  if you're calling server-side scripting, you'll have some trouble converting to air.  and, there are some other unlikely scenarios that will cause some trouble.
