Combo microphone/headphone issues.

While this has undoubtedly been addressed numerous times, I'm not quite sure how to word it in a way that would pick up a search for it. I am having issues with audio quality while using a combination headphone/microphone in my sound card's audio jack. When I use a non combo headphone, the audio is fine. Interestingly enough, when I hold down the microphone button, the audio corrects itself. Is there a work around for this?

You will need an adapter most likely for your issue to split the single headphone/microphone into two discrete outputs. What model are you using? perhaps this will help.

  • Connecting Case Microphone/Headphone Jacks To The Sound Blas

I just got a new computer with a Foxconn TLA-776 case that has microphone/headphone jacks on the front. There are 7 seperate plugs that come from these jacks. Ground, Right Out, Right Return, Left Out, Left Return, Mic Power, and Mic In. I tried plugging these into the white connector on the card with 0 pins, but they didn't fit correctly. Is there somewhere else these connectors are supposed to plug into on the card? They were originally plugged into the motherboard's onboard sound.

You didn't mention which card you have there but as an example, this is for Audigy 2 Zs. Arrangement for pins may vary between different models of cards. For example on Audigy 2 (SB0244) -->
    - Analog Ground
2 - Analog Headphone Out Left
3 - Analog Headphone Out Right
4 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- short to ground to mute the backpanel (when headphones are plugged in)
    ... (i.e. pins 3 and 4 were swapped vs. A2Zs arrangement)
    Didn't connect the mic.
Here is another link covering subject (st link seem not to work right now.

  • HP Notebook - Headphone Issues

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZiw-Qo59eA
I made a short video about what's been happening to my HP computer.  If any further information is needed, please don't hesitate to ask.  I would love to get this problem fixed before I have to send my computer in for 3 weeks.
    Specs
    HP dv7 Notebook
    i7 quad-core processor
    8GB RAM

most of the time, the headphone issue arises when bios are outdated. I also had a similar problem.I got it solved by updating the bios and latest audio codecs from compaq site. Go to your notebook manufacturers site and  get the latest bios and codecs for your NOTEBOOK model(improtant).I am quite sure that will fix the problem.

  • Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Microphone Buzzing Issues

    Hi there,
I have just built a brand new PC with a Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Soundcard.
Basicly the issue I have is whenever I enter a 3D program (game) the microphone I have plugged in starts giving buzzing feedback and i can hear a very faint buzzing through the headphones. Ive tried this in various different programs, L4D2, WoW, BF2BC, all of them have the same issue. When I am on the desktop everything sounds perfect, there is no microphone interferance and the soundcard is silent unless I choose it not to be.
I have tried updating the drivers, installing alchemy and basicly everything I can possibly think of. This is the second card that has done this and I believe it to be a driver issue instead of hardware.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem as me? Im getting sick of it now.
    The system specs:
    Quad Core
    ATI Radeon HD5970
    2GB of RAM
    PCI-E X-FI Card
    Windows 7 64-Bit
    Thanks

Ok. After much toiling I found that my cable management was the problem. All wires that run electrical current through them create a magnetic field. When you get a bunch of them gathered together (especially the dual 8-pin power to the video card) they create a lot of interference with the wire for your front audio jacks and can also affect your rear inputs/outputs as well. If you separate these wires it should dull, if not eliminate, the buzz. There also can be issues with grounding your power and making sure that you run clean power into your system (most battery backups can accomplish this). I hope that this information is referenced by all of the people who have been dri'ven into insanity by the annoying, but subtle, buzz. Good luck!

  • Earphone and microphone setting issues

When using my apple earphones, and using a messenger such as Skype, the microphone on my earphones seems to be the default input rather than on my mac book pro, is there a way to change this so that the microphone in my mac book pro is the default rather than the earphones, whilst still using the earphones?!?!

I could tell you now that that would be a waste of time.
the line in is never used when doing this connection, and the internal mic switches to the external automatically.
Theoretically you could try to modify the connection (there are three bans each one is for different tracks, left right and mic, modifying it so there are only two seen would work) but you run a huge risk in damaging your headphone jack so it would be silly to even think of.
You're better off getting a pair of headphones that have a removable microphone line or ones that don't have a microphone at all.
or you could do something really crazy like get an earphone splitter and plug that in and then plug your headphones to the earphone splitter (where it makes one headphone jack be two) and then that would cover your headphones to only be headphones and won't read the mic. (make sure your splitter doesn't support the microphone channel) you'll be able to tell because it'll only have two bands on it instead of 3. you want it to only have two.
    for example this:
would do what you want. notice that there are only TWO (2) black bands instead of Three (3) which you can see on the connection for the headphones you have now. This connection above will solve your issue for sure.
either way your current hardware won't allow it. I've seen these splitters everywhere. Chances are you may have one. and if you're using headphones maybe you havea  friend you want to share the sound with.

  • 10.4 to 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC) Issues - Will Not Sleep, Etc.

I've been running Panther 10.3.9 successfully for a long time. There are a few programs I'd like to use that require Tiger and I realized that Tiger retail disks were getting hard to come by and expensive, so I decided to buy one when I found it for a decent price.
I installed 10.4 (running repair disk and repair permissions prior) and then ran all the possible updates from Software Update. I did not select them all at once, most of them one at a time, while repairing permissions after each of them. Shortly after, things were not right.
The first thing I noticed was that I could not put the computer to sleep with either the Apple > Sleep or through the settings in Energy Saver. Expose was flakey also, it seemed to work intermittently. The eject button on the keyboard also worked intermittently. Then, with Activity monitor I would see the following items not responding: loginwindow, System Preferences and Disk Utility (not necssarily at the same time, but at one time or another.) I suppose there may have been others issues, but these are just some of the things that I noticed.
Startups, restarts and shutdowns took a long time. However, the progress bar on startups after the grey screen visually moved exceptionally fast and seemed odd.
These issues also occurred in Safe Mode.
An archive and install back to 10.4 produces a perfect running system, none of these problems occur.
Since my initial update attempt, I've tried to update with the manually downloaded 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC) with the exact same results (no sleep, expose issues, not responding issues, slow startups, restarts and shutdowns, etc.)
I've archived and installed and updated four times - only keyboard, mouse, ethernet cable and apple speakers were attached. I'm currently sticking with 10.4 until I can find something I can do to troubleshoot this issue which may allow me to get a problem free update to 10.4.11.
Note that my computer does lose the date and time settings when powered off and today I ordered a new PRAM battery. Could a dead battery be contributing to my issue, even though 10.4 is fine?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Julie

...only real low level kexts like old drivers for Universal Power Supplies & such, or real Haxies that dig into & change the OS somewhere.
So, if old drivers and haxies might exist, how do I go about finding them? The only program that I have that I think may be considered a haxie is DockExtender 3.1.3, http://www.codetek.com/dockextender/ (stills seems to work.) It was in my startup items when I initially performed the combo update. Since then, only iCal related items are in my startup items. Subsequent update attempts have been ran when DockExtender was not active. Also, is it note worthy that I have a non-system icon for my hard drive?
My feeling so far is that it's the HD or RAM, Tiger is twice as hard on & demanding of both.
My hard drive is a Seagate 200 GB (utilizes only 128 GB) Ultra ATA/100 7200 RPM 8 MB Cache installed around March 2006. It still has a 2 year warranty. Are you speculating that it just may not be suited for Tiger?
My memory consists of three strips of Corsair VS256MB133 G that I installed in February 2008 - these came as a warranty replacements due to a bad strip of another part number that they did not stock any more.
I don't think it's any of the APPs you aren't running.
In terms of my applications, so far I've updated Firefox (uninstalled some incompatible add-ons and themes.) Identified Font Doctor 5.1.2.9 has likely not being compatible, because it quits when selecting a folder to move troubled fonts to when diagnosing. I questioned Extensis Suitcase 10.2.2, but found out that if I trashed the Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS that the font activation errors were resolved. Safari has crashed on me a few times, but it is still version 2.0. It also crashed in 10.3.9, forcing me to use other browsers. Can I update Safari now? Software Update does not show Safari and I don't know if the combo update is the only was to update it. I'm still investigating other applications compatibility, but the true test won't happen until I run the combo update and am able to run my applications on 10.4.11.
If you had a Firewire Drive to Install to & try, that would be great.
I do have an external firewire drive, but it contains a bootable backup of my 10.3.9 system right now. I'd hate to tamper with it at this time, due to my current situation. I can check on borrowing one if necessary. Would this prove out the question regarding the hard drive and since it would be a clean install = no possible haxies or old drivers lingering around. I also have my old internal hard drive that I could use but, this would be the original from this mac and although it worked fine when I removed it, maybe it would not work well with Tiger.
    Thanks,
    Julie

  • Headphones issue after updating to iOS 6.1.4

I have not seen anyone else posting this issue but I feel like I can't be alone. I updated to iOS 6.1.4 and now any headphones I use are cracking and popping. I took my phone into the apple store after restoring as a new phone. I thought it was a hardware issue, but after they replaced my phone and I updated the new phone, the exact same issue is happening again, just two hours after having the replacement. I even set this phone up as a new iPhone to make sure it was not a settings issue.....
Anyone else having this, or have a fix. Guess I might have to just wait till next iOS update and cross my fingers I can use my headphones again.
(P.S. this is using several pairs of headphones. Even tried some display headphones in the apple store.)

Bumping this in hopes, someone will help

  • External Microphone Signal Issues

I am trying to record my guitar with a new microphone i purchased. I have the microphone on the aplifier connected to a  small sound board and from the soundboard output it goes into the input (headphone Jack) on the computer. I went into preferences and tried to select input device and my only option was the internal microphone. How do I get my MBP to pick up the input signal from the mic/mixer board? There is a strong signal if i hook it up to a speaker instead of the mac it plays the music fine.

    Hi, try the following:
select the external HD in the finder and press >cmd-i<
unlock and make sure you are the owner
now choose >Apply to enclosed items……<
    Have a nice day!

  • 8800 headphone issues

Once I surrendered to the fact that my Blackberry 8800 ( tmobile ) would not allow me to use my s9 stereo bluetooth headphones >sigh<  I purchased a pair of "Body Glove" wired stereo headphones that had the correct size adapter.
I listen to my music almost all day and prefer to rarely touch the phone itself, using the headphones most of the day and a Bluetooth ( S500 ) earpiece in the evening.
For the second time ( second phone) the headset connection has failed. It seems that after about a month of use, first the headset crackles when pluged in but minor "wiggling" will make it work; although it may need to be plugged and unplugged a few time a day. This degrades over the day(s) to popping and humming and intermittent failures that become so irritating I just quit using the Blackberry as an Mp3 player.
This truly stinks becauase one of the main reasons I chose the 8800 was to be able to listen to my music while I work and not miss a phone call.
    Anyone else have this problem?
    TIA,
    T

I went through three headsets before I got it to work.
I bought a Radio shack adapter. It sounds funny, but it was a little thicker the 3.5 standard, there was no wiggle in it,
which was my problem as well. Try it.

  • Strange microphone-headphone confusion

    Hi macbook users,
My external microphone stopped working from one day to the next. I thought it was the battery and purchased a new one, but after plugging it in and testing with garageband, no wound was picked up (except sounds uttered close to the computer).
After testing to figure out what was wrong (I started with the microphone, which works on a camera) and garageband (the built-in input option never appeared), and a PRAM reset (suggested online for a similar problem) I ended up looking at the sound preferences (finally).
Here is where it gets interesting :
I noticed that the microphone being plugged in or not had no impact on what the computer recognized. Basically, in System Preferences > Sound > Input, it always just says "Internal Microphone - Built In".
BUT, what is really interesting is that in Output, when I plug the microphone in, it switches from "Internal Speakers - Built In" to "Headphones - Headphone Port".
Which means that in the past 48 hours, my computer stopped recognizing my microphone as such, and now thinks it's a headphones set.
I cannot find any trace of this problem on the Internet.
Does anyone have an idea what happened, and how one could go about solving this?
    Thanks,
    Lawrence

I'm having a problem identical to this, which started when I updated my software this morning, including the latest version of the Linux kernel.

  • Need help: iPad2 jack/headphone issue

My issue is no or garbled muffled sound from the headphone jack on my ipad2. I've tried all the usual fixes re settings, twiddling the jack, cleaning the jack,, rebooting, and even upgrading to ios7, but I still am experiencing these bizarre behaviors: (1) both my Bose earphones and my Sennheiser ear buds play iTunes songs with perfect stereo fidelity but the audio from podcasts and youtube videos is either extremely faint or garbled as if being played underwater. (2) When I pull the plug back slightly just outside its snapped in position, I can hear perfect stereo with both earphone types. The audio from  the Sennheiser jack in this position however breaks up intermittently until I press upwards on it towards the glass and then it's clear as a bell. (3) I have another set of ear buds from my Olympus digital recorder and these work perfectly on all audio sources when fully plugged in!!!  BTW, the iPad's external speakers work fine. My conclusion at this point is a failed jack but I'm at a loss to explain why one set of earphones work perfectly while two two others don't. Any insights out there???  Many thanks,  Bill

Sounds like the port has gone bad, maybe from some schmutz getting jamed in there over a couple of years. Try blowing it out with canned air. Or cleaning it with alcohol (no water based solvents). You might have to surrender and get it replaced. I doubt Apple will repair just the jack. A replacement iPad 2 will cost you mid-200's through Apple, and you'll get a refurbished one with a full warranty.

  • Combo Box Selection Issue in SBO 2007

    Hello.
Here is one issue which I am facing now.
I have just installed the 2007 Version of SBO in my machine. And using VB.Net.
When I tried to retrieve the <i>Selected.Value</i> from a ComboBox, it is returning a wrong value.
    The real problem is this.
Suppose there is two ValidValues in the Combo box
    1. <b>aaa</b>
    2. <b>bbb</b>
and suppose we manually selected the value '<b>aaa</b>' in it.
Then the combobox will show '<b>aaa</b>' as selected value.
When we try to return it using the <i>Selected.Value</i> property, it returns <b>aaa</b>.
then I tried to select '<b>bbb</b>' using a code which is here
    <i>oCombo.Select("bbb",SAPBouicom.BoSearchKey.psk_ByValue)</i>
Now the combobox will show '<b>bbb</b>' as selected value. But,
When we try to return it using <i>Selected.Value</i> property, It still returns <b>aaa</b>.
If we select <b>bbb</b> manually, it will return <b>bbb</b>.
IT ALWAYS RETURNS THE LAST MANUALLY SELECTED VALUE.
here is the original Code which I tried in my application.
    <i>cboCategory.Select(CWRptMaint.ReportCategory, SAPbouiCOM.BoSearchKey.psk_ByValue)
    Dim s As String = cboCategory.Selected.Value
    Dim t As String = cboCategory.Selected.Description
    </i>
Please Help me to solve this issue.
    Thank you
    Anoop

  • Adobe Air and iOS 7 microphone prompt issue

I have read numerous posts that the latest versions of Adobe Air 3.9 Beta is supposed to resolve the issue of iOS 7 apps prompting for microphone access. However, I am still encountering this error.
    Am using
    Adobe AIR: v3.9 Beta
    Adobe Flash CC: v13.0.0.759
    OS: Windows 7, 64bit
The app has audio but does not require microphone access. Please advise how to fix this!!
    Thanks!!

Did the official 3.9 release help at all?

  • Headphone issues

While recording v.o., there is no sound coming out of headphones. I can't monitor what I'm recording. When I playback the track, the recorded sound now is heard in the monitors, but not through my headphones. I called Adobe customer service and they said I needed an M- Audio hardware device. I'm using Audition cs6 with Windows 7, through a Focusrite Pro 14 interface. Further investigation on my part led me to speak to an audio expert from a large audio retailer. He informed me that I did not need any other device. He suggested it might be a software issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks J.H.

I think that all the advice you've had so far has been wrong in part:
    1) Adobe Customer services shouldn't be trying to sell you hardware you don't need.
    2) Large Audio retailer 'expert' is correct that you don't need another device, but incorrect about it possibly being a software issue, because it isn't - it's a hardware monitoring issue, and nothing directly to do with Audition.
    From Focusrite's web site:
"Included with the PRO 14 is Saffire MixControl, an 18 x 6 DSP mixer. Offering a level of flexibility that is unparalleled at this price point, the MixControl software enables you to create six separate mixes without latency. Route any combination of input signals and sequencer outputs to any of Saffire PRO 14’s outputs. Intuitive one-click configurations help you track, monitor and mix as quickly as possible."
I've highlighted the relevant part. The way you do zero-latency monitoring during recording is via the internal mixer in your sound device - that's the only way you can do this. If you use a software path, chances are that you'll get sufficient latency to put you off completely. What you need to do is use Mixcontrol to provide an output to the headphone socket from the input you are using, and you're done.

  • Very strange headphone issue

    G'day everyone.
Yesterday I received a brand new iPhone 4 and today, after syncing all my music, I noticed a strange problem when listening through any earphones. When the music is playing at low volume it is very muffled, though when the volume is turned up close to full, the audio seems to jump into a state of clarity where it suddenly sounds normal.
I was on the phone to apple about this problem and whilst I was on hold I decided to plug in my headphones to see if they worked for calls... they did, so I decided to test further and see if my music was working... it was, but as soon as I hung up from the call and tried the music again it went back to being muffled until the volume was turned to full. Apple suggested a hard reset which did not help, any other ideas?
    Cheers.

I just talked to Apple Support and they are going to repair it for me, it's just I need to wait til Friday since I am broke from Christmas! Once I get paid, then I can dish out the 30 dollars to get a rental iPhone to hold me over. The restore temporarily fixed the touchscreen issue since it happened again hours later.
Also, nobody I know who would have a spare AT&T phone doesn't come to mind so I can't just borrow a phone and start the repair process now, but the wait isn't too bad. At least they do not limit the iPhone rental to just physical Apple Store customers!
Thanks for the help, folks. :V
