Command line management?

I now have one Xserve RAID in my datacenter and the box has been put to good use very quickly. I do have a problem with it however. All of the servers are linux based (mostly gentoo) and I'm running nagios for system monitoring. I also have a script that will shut down all servers and the Sun raid arrays (T3, SE3510) in the event of power or AC failure. The gui to configure the raid is good for configuration, but is there any command line access into the raid to tell it to shut down the controller? SNMP monitoring would also be nice, but I think I can decipher the XML that the box seems to prefer.

Apple doesn't provide anything, but a 3rd party has written some tools at alienraid.org:

  • Problem using extension manager CS5 with command line

    Hi All,
I had posted my question here : http://forums.adobe.com/message/4695419#4695419, but was advised to do so here as well..
I have a requirement to get the path of all the installed Extension Managers on any Windows system for the purpose of installing an extension.. I thought, there would be no problem in getting the path from the registry. There was no problem in Win XP, but the same does not work for Win 7.. I googled, and found alternate ways to get the path.
Here is the link : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/851359. I followed the instructions in this post, but failed to get this working for CS5 as mentioned in my previous thread... No problem for CS5.1 and CS6.. Why is that?
I want to get this working for CS5, CS5.1, CS6... How can I get the path of all the Extension Manager versions installed on a Windows system?
Please refer to the following screenshots to get a better understanding of my problem,
I created a jsx file named "Result.jsx", which I saved in my D drive, with the following code,
    resultFile = new File("D:/result.log");
    resultFile.open("w");
    resultFile.write(BridgeTalk.__diagnostics__);
    resultFile.close();
If I run this directly from ESTK CS5, there is no problem, and I get the result.log file. I tried to execute this script via command line as shown in the screenshot,
On executing the above, I got the following error,
    What is going wrong?
    Please help!

I am sorry for the poor documentation of Extension Manager which causes you so much trouble.
    1. You can use BridgeTalk API to ask specific version of Extension Manager to do something. There is sample in packaging_extension.pdf about this. You don't need to know the installation path of Extension Manager. One thing to note is that the value of bt.target is version specific, i.e. "exman-5.0", "exman-5.5" send this message to different version of Extension Manager, so you can change this value to install/enable/disable/remove extensions using different version of Extension Manager. More detailed documentation of BridgeTalk can be found by clicking "Help" menu then clicking "Javascript Tools Guide CS5" in "Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS5".
    2. Specific version of Extension Manager only manage extensions for corresponding version of product. You should use Extension Manager CS5 to install extensions for Photoshop CS5. The reason that the extension you installed for Photoshop CS5.1 using Extension Manager CS5.5 is displayed for Photoshop CS5 in Extension Manager CS5 is that two versions of Photoshop specified the same directory for Extension Manager to manage extensions. This is a defect and will cause some problems if multiple versions of Photoshop co-existed in one machine. But "to find  previous (CS5) extension manager and to enable it" should work for you, I guess you use command line to enable it and specify wrong product name (see #3) so that it doesn't work.
    3. When using command line, you should specify "product" attribute with the name displayed at the left panel of Extension Manager. So "Photoshop CS5 32" is correct. Remember to enclose it with double quote because of existence of space character.
    4. As above mentioned, use display name of Photoshop, and call proper version of Extension Manager by BridgeTalk.

  • Using process manager to get command line of a running application

    hello,
i'm currently using the process manager framework to get a list of current running processes on the machine. i would like to get the command line to display to the user. i can see how to get the path to the executable file. i.e. /Applications/AppRunning however i'd like to get the full command line and im either missing it from the documentation or not seeing the links to get that information. so i want to get /Applications/AppRunning -c someoption -f another option. can anyone recommend a function to assist me or if im using the wrong API to get the information i am looking for can someone recommend the correct API?
    thank you very much.

thank you very much. you have been more then informative about this. i'll have to check out the kernel queues and events api you mentioned. i've never really digged this far into a unix style OS before. it's pretty interesting. it seems like EVFILT_PROC is what i want to get process starts/stops.
I've never done this either, so I'm quite sure I'm missing some big things here. Some other things that might be handy are dtrace and ptrace. I strongly suspect that there is some really easy way to do it that I don't know about. You might try searching on the Apple developer mailing lists.
at the end of the day though i still need to be able to retrieve the command line of a running executable. 'ps' can do it so i'm assuming there is a programatic way of doing it. is the mac 'ps' command source code online anywhere that i can see what it's doing?
I don't know about ps. There are a number of Mac applications that do things similar to what you propose. Marcopolo is open-source and can detect when applications are launched.
i have looked at the linux procps package however it relies on the procfs which mac does not have.
Amit Singh wrote a MacFUSE-based procfs for the Mac. You can look at the source code to that, but, to quote Amit "the MacFUSE version of procfs makes heavy use of the Mach programming interfaces". Good luck with that. Still, there might be some helpful information in that link.

  • Picture Manager with command line for Bat files

    Hello
I am wondering if Microsoft Picture manager has any command line switches i could use.
I resize thousands of photos weekly using Picture manager for a semi automated process. The resize is the part that is not automated. For some reason when using image magik the resize is done but it does not accept some images where i upload them, yet if
i do it in parallel with Office picture manager the Microsoft re-sized always work.
The process uses VB Access, downloads all images changes the extension from one card extensions to jpg and ammends the name. sorts the images to two folders.
Then i resize as a batch manually. Not difficult but needs hands on and have you tried changing the dimensions in picture manager when all are selected. tedious!
Then the final bat uploads to correct locations.
So my question, how to use command line with Microsoft picture manager. If not command line Powershell. I can not beleive that the program can not be opened specifying a folder and resize image dimension to use. I cant see the source code where i believe
it would be apparent to me how to do so.
    Thank you
Sometimes the answer is so blindingly obvious i fail to see!

I have done it before on BOXI R2 with the IW, and it works fine
But any how, this is the way that we have to work with, since it is part of a customer product and the link universe and it's reports  is an additional part of the product.
So is there a way that I can pull just the main universe and it's reports?

  • UCCE - How to manage Agent & skillgroup in command line

    Hi,
First thanks for your time to read this.
I'm looking for a way to manage in custom application the associations between agents and skillgroups. From what I've looked there isn't any API.
I was wondering if there is a command line bulk tool for this purpose.
Could anybody give me some lights up on this?
    Thanks in advance.
    RB

There used to be bulk load config tools, but they didn't do proper error checking as the GUI tools do.
I don't think there were ever bulk "change" (i.e. skill group member), or delete command-line tools.

  • Command line for credential manager

can anyone help me in getting command line for credential manager ... ?
    Thanks,
    VRAGHU

If there are a lot of them you could go to a command prompt and type:
    cmdkey /list
    Or better yet:  cmdkey /list > del_creds.cmd
Then edit the file so you are only left with, for example:
        cmdkey /delete:info-services.dev-inside.lni.wa.gov
        cmdkey /delete:info-services.inside.lni.wa.gov
        cmdkey /delete:inside.lni.wa.gov
        cmdkey /delete:lnidaptumtfs08.wads.res
        cmdkey /delete:lniduttumvm05
        cmdkey /delete:lnipstum01.wads.res
        cmdkey /delete:lnipstum02.wads.res
        cmdkey /delete:lnixapolysrm1.wads.res
        cmdkey /delete:ohr.apps-inside.lni.wa.gov
        cmdkey /delete:portal.apps-inside.lni.wa.gov
        cmdkey /delete:portal.dev-inside.lni.wa.gov
        cmdkey /delete:scsd8.unit-test.wads.wa.gov
then run your del_creds.cmd file and they will all be gone.

  • Rpass - Secure, simple, and pluggable command-line password management

WARNING: this program requires a python version greater than or equal to 3.
EDIT: Fixed a bunch of bugs that made this unusable, please update!
EDIT: Added a default configuration file.
    Hi there!
rpass is a command-line password manager that encrypts any and all credentials you would like to store using gpg's algorithms.
Gnome and Mac OS both have a universal credential solution, but to my knowledge there is no such generic linux application. Gnome's keyring code is long and personally, I don't trust it as much as the simple system I have in place in rpass - it is transparent and easy to understand, and any possible security holes would be blatantly visible.
rpass can be used directly from the commandline, typing your master password (gpg passphrase) in every time, but it really shines when gpg-agent and xclip are installed. gpg-agent saves your passphrase for an interval of time, so you only have to authenticate yourself occaisonally, and the powerful search capabilities of rpass (regex-enabled) allow simple and quick account selection.
Furthermore, with xclip installed passwords NEVER have to be printed onscreen - the first matching entry's password is automatically copied to the clipboard if a search is done with rpass. You can even run rpass from applications like 'dmenu', and although there will be no visible output, if you enter a search term after rpass you will have the password you wanted copied to your clipboard.
Finally, it can also be easily integrated in other applications -- I use it for my email (mutt) and any script I write that requires a password.
    AUR Link: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=44788
More detailed documentation and explanation can be found at: https://github.com/rscare/rpass/blob/ma … E.asciidoc (scroll down)
    or with
    $ man rpass
    after installation.

Please comment on the software and the documentation. Thank you very much for taking the time to try my software.

I'm very interested in this. However... on the initial run, pressing enter causes a crash:
    $ rpass
Need to first create gpg key pair.
Choose a secure passphrase -- this is going to be your master password.
    Rerun program after key creation.
WARNING: DO NOT pick a sign-only key type.
    Press [ENTER] when ready.
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/rpass_py_interface", line 80, in <module>
    input("Press [ENTER] when ready.")
    File "<string>", line 0
    ^
    SyntaxError: unexpected EOF while parsing
I got around this by entering junk and I made my key. After rerunning rpass with the key generated:
    $ rpass
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/rpass_py_interface", line 84, in <module>
    if not(IsRunning(gpg-agent)):
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/rpass.py", line 24, in IsRunning
    plist = [re.match(ppatt, p.strip()).groups()[0] for p in str(proc.communicate()[0], encoding=utf-8).split(n)[1:-1]]
TypeError: str() takes at most 1 argument (2 given)
Looks like rpass expects the gpg-agent to be running when it starts.
edit: rather, it expects the gpg-agent to be running with the key loaded. gpg-agent was already loaded thanks to keychain but without my newly created key known to it.

  • Command line enable of VNC/Remote Management?

I have a situation where I need to enable remove mgmt (VNC) on my Mac at work, so I can get to it over VPN at home, to access my Parallels, etc. I can ssh to the system, but can't figure out how to enable the Remote Desktop (and it's specific parameters) via the command line. I believe it would be a defaults write.
Can someone point me in the right direction? I just want to restrict VNC with a Password, then disable it when I'm done.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Difficult to see why you're hesitating to use the kickstart utility as that will do what you originally asked. Just because it does not specifically mention VNC does not mean VNC is not running or working.
VNC Server and Client is built into OSX since 10.5. If you enable Remote Management it will open ports 5900 and 3283 on that workstation. Port 5900 is the VNC Port and port 3283 is the special control port Apple add to the built in VNC/ARD Agent to allow their dedicated management VNC Server application - Apple Remote Desktop - to offer a lot more than simple control for remote clients. You don't have to buy ARD to do what you want.
Enabling Screen Sharing only opens port 5900. On a Mac all you need is the local admin's name and password of the client workstation you're trying to control. If you're trying to control a mac from a PC then you'd need a dedicated VNC Viewer installing on the PC. Something like RealVNC Viewer. To allow the PC to control the mac you would have to add a VNC password option which should not be the same as the local admin's password.

  • Command line equivalent of Work Group Manager's export feature

    Hello everyone,
I am have a hard time upgrading from Lion Server to Mountain Lion Server, especially with Open Directory. What I wish to do, is to import the existing users and groups of an existing server running Lion Server into a new (fresh) Open Directory master created on another server that is running Mountain Lion Server.
I have tried several options. Those that did *not* work for me include:
Trying to make create a replica of the Lion Open Directory on the Mountain Lion Server
Trying to backup the OD of the Lion Server using slapconfig
What seems to work (for the moment), is to use the export feature of Work Group manager on Lion and to import the users/groups using the import feature of Mountain Lion Server app.
My question is: is there a command line way to do the export ? Since Work Group manager seems to be kind of deprecated in ML, I assume there must be some other way (i.e., from the command line) to do the user/group import and export.
    Thanks for your help !

Notice that the old Archive and Restore options are gone. To run a backup, run the slapconfig command along with the -backupdb option followed by a path to a folder to back the data up to:
    sudo slapconfig -backupdb /odbackups
To restore a database (such as from a previous version of the operating system where such an important option was actually present) use the following command (which just swaps backupdb with -restoredb)
    sudo slapconfig -restoredb /odbackups
    /usr/sbin/ServerBackup -cmd backup -source /

  • Command Line and Resource Manager

When using the command line to compile a Robohelp project, is there a way to update the shared resources within the project before generation?
For example, say you have Project1 and it is using snippet1 in that project. However, snippet1 has been modified in the resource manager (just say, for argument's sake, that snippet1 is also used in Project2, and you modified the snippet there and synced it to the resource manager). When you do a regular command line compile, the snippet is not updated.
Is there a way to sync the snippets and images from the resource manager in the project before doing the command line compile (other than opening the project and syncing manually)? After all, if I have to open the project, there's no reason to command line compile since I'm already there and can just compile it from the project.
    Thanks!

I don't think that is possible as, correct me if I am wrong, even within RoboHelp the images don't get updated automatically. It's something you have to do.
It's a good point though so I suggest submitting a feature request.

  • Command line to automate disk management in 2008 R2

Hi, I am looking for some command line tools to allow me to manage disks in Windows 2008 R2.  My idea is to automate some task, such as importing foreign disks, so that I can schedule the task in a regular basis. I know there are various powershell

  • Various problems using extension manager with command line

    Hello all,
We are installing our plugins  to CS4/5/5.1 version of Adobe Photoshop as part of our installer and  allow the users to select specific versions of Photoshop to install the  panel for. There are a few old problems that I wanted to rant about for  quite some while and now with a whole bunch of problems that the 5.1  update introduced I feel I just have to voice them. I will limit it to  PC only as it seems to be the most troubled platform
#1 As we cannot install our plugin only by using the  Extension Manager (simply because it cannot handle all we've to do upon  the installation) we have to run commands from within the our installer,  non-interactively, of course.
The interface to command line installation is xmancommand.exe (or "Extension manager (Version). exe" - not sure whether it makes any difference. ). Now the first question is how to find this executable on   the target machine, from an installer. Users may specify different  locations to install the Creative Suite and it certainly does NOT have  to  be  C:\Program Files\...(or %PRGRAMFILES% in general). ATM we are using an odd place in the registry  to to find the path to the most recent Extension Manager but first its  sometimes overwritten by another installation and in any case it  only shows ONE version of the extension manager which of course cannot  handle other versions (see #2)
#2 Why the most recent version of  Adobe Extension Manager (5.5) cannot install the extension for 5.0?  Well, install it actually does, however its disabled for CS5 and it  seems that the only way to enable it on this platform is to find  previous (CS5) extension manager and to enable it. Oh, actually no - it  doesn't work! The only way that I found here working is to find CS5  extension manager first, install the extension there and then use CS5.5  extension manager to enable it. Why do I need both utilities to manage  my extensions?!
#3 The program is severely lacking in  documentation AND it doesn't produce reasonable output messages, so  determining what it can actually support is a puzzle. For example, why  "Dreamweaver CS5" is a correct product name and "Photoshop CS5" is not (don't different teams talk to each other)? Ok, lets forget the consistency, but how do I make the utility output the list of all products it supports, in their  magic token form that it will actually be understood if passed in in the  command line? By trial and error? This menthod btw is also extremely painful: nany times when  specifying wrong parameters the program doesn't provide any output and just shrugs "whatever, go figure it yourself"...
#4 Why the only way to enable/disable an extension in Photoshop  seems to be using magic "productfamily" keyword that is not even listed  on Adobe's help page for command line options (here:  http://help.adobe.com/en_US/extensionmanager/cs/using/WSB4845EDD-14E5-476a-B749-FF328830D1 4F.html).?  E.g. "xmancommand.exe" -suppress -remove  product=Photoshop  extension=OurExtension" will ALWAYS fail with a lovely "'Photoshop is  not supported by Extension Manager CS5.5." error; I've tried "PhotoshopCS5", "Photoshop CS5", "PhotoshopCS5.1"  "Photoshop CS5.1", "Photoshop-12" (mentioned in examples section in  http://help.adobe.com/en_US/extensionmanager/cs/using/packaging_extension.pdf )  and a whole bunch of other permutations - none  seem to work (see #3). Magic "productfamily=Photoshop" does work. But  then it only aims the current version ("CS5.1") and I need it to work  for CS5 (I'm not even mentioning CS4...."). Would there be any suggestions?
Really, the question is, how do we, third-party developers, are  supposed to interact with the command-line utility without knowing where  it is, what product names is capable to work with and without being  able to target specific platforms (i86 vs x64 anyone  (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/672537)? CS5 vs CS5.1 (above)?). I don't  know what your test cases are for the command line tool (if any!), but this is simply insane, folks, simply  insane.

I am sorry for the poor documentation of Extension Manager which causes you so much trouble.
    1. You can use BridgeTalk API to ask specific version of Extension Manager to do something. There is sample in packaging_extension.pdf about this. • Starting Managed Server using Node Manager Command Line

    Hi,
I've configured the Node Manager and it is connected to the Admin Server without problem. Now I wanted to start the Managed Server through the console but it is failing and my guess is the command line used syntax is not correct.
My question is, how do I change the command line that Node Manager uses to start the Managed Server? I've try using the Server Start tab configuration and it seems like not working. I've also try to update the .properties file for the Managed Server as well.
Each time I look at the Managed Server logs, it is giving me this line...
NodeManager> <Starting WebLogic server with command line: <....>
The command line shown in the logs are not what I've put in the .properties file or the Server Start tab. It is taken from somewhere and I'm not sure where. I just want to configure the command line that Node Manager uses to start a Managed Server.
Hopefully, I'm clear with my problem and someone might be able to assist. Thanks.

    Great stuff!!
It actually solved my problem. Thanks.
Am just wondering why it didn't work using option 1)? If anyone somehow knows the reason, if not at least it did work for me now.

    No,
the arguments that you set thru Console GUI are effective when Node manager start your server.
