Command Prompt Filepath Keeps Alternating

Hi there,
Can anyone tell me why Command Prompt sometimes points to C:\Users\<username> instead of C:\Windows\System32 where it should be defaulting to. The PC is on a Windows Domain. Your help would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
RocknRollTim

Hi Michael Shao,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you and you're right it is to do with the Environment Variables but still I haven't had time to do any testing on this as I have had lots of projects on the go, hopefully I will have time to test this when I have
a few minutes and to give you feedback on how I'm getting on. The only way I can get this to work under my profile as well as other profiles on my PC without changing the Environment Variables is by re-creating each profile, however I have noticed
that my profile keeps changing from an Administrator user to a Remote Desktop user each time I create it and sometimes reverts back when logging off as well as shutting down and rebooting the PC which is strange, I do recall
originally creating the profile on the PC as a Standard user and then changed it to a Remote Desktop user as this was the only way I could get into my PC at the time plus I didn't have privileges to use the SBS facilities such as Remote
Web Access, Outlook Web App and the VPN outside of work which are new aspects to the business in which my IT Manager granted me access to them using User Groups in AD as well as SBS in order to grant me access to my own PC via Remote
Desktop outside of work using the SBS console. SBS facilities such as Outlook Web App were accessible internally before these changes happened. Other SBS facilities such as Remote Web Access especially the mobile site version weren't
accessible and required all the SBS services on the server to be enabled plus before when this happened I had to keep adding exceptions in all web browsers on my PC at home as it wouldn't allow me access to Remote Web Access as well as Outlook Web App
without these exceptions, now they work without adding these exceptions in every web browser on my PC at home. Maybe re-creating the profiles might be another possible solution.
Regards,
RocknRollTim
P.S. I forgot to also mention that having the services for SBS on the server were also required in order for them to become accessible.

  • User with admin rights can't access files through the command prompt

    I have a strange situation where I have 2 users both setup exactly the same with admin rights on a 2003 (32 bit) server through an AD group membership, but one can do everything as expected but the other can't.
    The one that can't is trying to execute a program is a command prompt and keeps getting access denied or invalid directory when trying to cd into the folder.   I double and tripled check the permissions and they are correct, this person should have
    full admin.  In fact I did a effective permissions through explorer and it states full rights.  Along those lines this person can also access the folder in question through explorer just not a command prompt.
    Has anyone seen this before ? and if so what can be done about it.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Can the user execute the program through explorer? In Windows Server 2003, the Users group does not have Read and Execute permissions to the command processor (Cmd.exe).
    You could refer to the article below to resolve the issue:

    UPDATE:
    I copied the winpe.wim file from the x86 root directory into the iso directory and renamed it to boot.wim Now, if I copy the contents to a flash drive and put it into a client
    computer, it boots to the PE perfectly, script and all.
    However, when trying to use the oscdimg command, I do get an .iso successfully, but when I burn it, I don't know what to do in the way of boot options, and if I keep defaults (imgburn)
    it results in an un-bootable dvd.
    Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Don't copy and paste instead type manually it will work.

    OMG! Yes, you are correct ... but I have no idea why! I retyped the command line:
    oscdimg -n -be:\winpe_amd64\etfsboot.com e:\winpe_amd64\ISO e:\winpe_amd64\winpe_amd64.iso
    into Notepad, and then pasted it into the Command Prompt, and it worked!
    Perhaps there must be some hidden characters included when pasting directly, even though I first pasted the command line into Notepad, and then into Command Prompt
    (C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools>).
    I had to retype the command line in Notepad before copying and pasting, before it would work.
    Wow, thanks!

  • How to run a program as an administrator from within a non-elevated command prompt?

    I have a project that is going to be running on a kiosk, and the user that is running the kiosk software is going to be restricted.  I have an alternate administrator account, but I cannot seem to figure out how to open my program running as this administrator
    user.  I have tried to use runas, like so:
    runas /user:admin kiosk.exe
    However, when I try to run this command, it asks me for the password of the administrator account and my program doesn't open correctly.  It fails to open at all.  If I change the run as to a start command, then the program executes fine so its
    not a problem with my software.
    Is there a way to pass a password parameter to runas so that it will not prompt for the password every time?  If there is not, can someone think of another way for me to elevate my process to administrator without being logged in as one through the
    command prompt?

    Hi KevinGEAR,
    You want to allow the others without the administrator`s level to run this software and  meanwhile the administrator is not logged in, right?
    Here is an alternative solution :
    1.To work with this solution, a built-in administrator account should be enabled and meanwhile you can create a standard account. The built-in administrator account is different from the administrator account you created.
    To enable built-in administrator account:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3040.enable-disable-the-local-hidden-built-in-administrator-account-in-windows-7.aspx
    2. Use the following code
    runas /user:ComputerName\Administrator /savecred "Full path to program's exe file"

  • How can I pass a value to the command prompt?

    I was wondering how can I pass a value to the command prompt with Windows and Linux? I'm more interested in Linux's system than Windows though. Is there a way to return info from the command prompt?

    Here is a snippet from http://mindprod.com/jglossexec.html that explains how in detail.
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("myprog.exe") will spawn an external process that runs in parallel with the Java execution. In Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, you must use an explicit *.exe or *.com extension on the parameter. It is also best to fully qualify those names so that the system executable search path is irrelevant, and so you don't pick up some stray program off the path with the same name.
    To run a *.BAT, *.CMD, *.html *.BTM or URL you must invoke the command processor with these as a parameter. These extensions are not first class executables in Windows. They are input data for the command processor. You must also invoke the command processor when you want to use the < > | piping options, Here's how, presuming you are not interested in looking at the output:
    Runtime.getRuntime( ).exec ("command.com /E:1900 /C MyBat.bat" );
    Runtime.getRuntime( ).exec ("cmd.exe /E:1900 /C MyCmd.cmd" );
    Runtime.getRuntime( ).exec ("C:\\4DOS601\\4DOS.COM /E:1900 /C MyBtm.btm" );
    Runtime.getRuntime( ).exec ("D:\\4NT301\\4NT.EXE /E:1900 /C MyBtm.btm" );
    There are also overloaded forms of exec(),
    Runtime.getRuntime( ).exec ("command.com /E:1900 /C MyBat.bat", null);
    Runtime.getRuntime( ).exec ("command.com /E:1900 /C MyBat.bat", null, "C:\\SomeDirectory");
    The second argument can be a String [], and can be used to set environment variables. In the second case, "C:\\SomeDirectory" specifies a directory for the process to start in. If, for instance, your process saves files to disk, then this form allows you to specify which directory they will be saved in.
    Windows and NT will let you feed a URL string to the command processor and it will find a browser, launch the browser, and render the page, e.g.
    Runtime.getRuntime( ).exec ("command.com http://mindprod.com/projects.html" );
    Another lower level approach that does not require extension associations to be quite as well set up is:
    Runtime.getRuntime( ).exec ("rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler http://mindprod.com/projects.html" );
    Note that a URL is not the same thing as a file name. You can point your browser at a local file with something like this: file://localhost/E:/mindprod/jgloss.html or file:///E|/mindprod/jgloss.html.
    Composing just the right platform-specific command to launch browser and feed it a URL to display can be frustrating. You can use the BrowserLauncher package to do that for you.
    Note that
    rundll32.exe url.dll,FileProtocolHandler file:///E|/mindprod/jgloss.html
    won't work on the command line because | is reserved as the piping operator, though it will work as an exec parameter passed directly to the rundll32.exe executable.
    With explicit extensions and appropriately set up associations in Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP you can often bypass the command processor and invoke the file directly, even *.bat.
    Similarly, for Unix/Linux you must spawn the program that can process the script, e.g. bash. However, you can run scripts directly with exec if you do two things:
    Start the script with #!bash or whatever the interpreter's name is.
    Mark the script file itself with the executable attribute.
    Alternatively start the script interpreter, e.g.
    Runtime.getRuntime( ).exec (new String[]{"/bin/sh", "-c", "echo $SHELL"}";

  • Error with "rmiregistry" in command prompt

    Hello everybody.
    I am experiencing something really strange. I am doing the exercices on http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/rmi/RMI.html#RMIArchitectureGoals and now am trying the second one.
    When I type in "rmiregistry" in command prompt at location "C:\" it's works fine. However, when I type it in "C:\JProg\RMI" (and for another program a subdirectory) where my classes reside, command goes all funny. It keeps printing the command-line without any results.
    I tried to use it anyway but then I get a "Connection refused to host: localhost" error, so it really doesn't work.
    I also tried the all the above ten times at least.... it is consistent.
    Does anybody have any idea what the hell command is on about ?
    Thanks,
    Q

    "rmiregistry" in command prompt is just registering
    into the registry. No output or response will be
    resulted. The next line cursor will be appeared. That
    all. If any error has, you should check the class
    again I mean related coding.I do not understand what the classes have to do with the rmiregistry command. When I create an empty directory it works, that is: it gives a blinking _ and I can succesfully start a server class. How can this problem (which occurs before calling any classes) have anything to do with the classfiles ? It is only in my RMI (and sub-) directory that the rmiregistry goes all wacky.

  • VBScript Runs Correctly From Command Prompt, But Not From SQL Server Agent Job

    I'm trying to run this script on my local machine to do some post-batch cleanup and it doesn't run correctly from the scheduled job (or when I invoke the job).
    Here's the script in question:
    Option Explicit
    Const filePath = "C:\Documents and Settings\jmunn\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Logs\"
    Const holdDays = 6
    main
    Sub Main()
    ClearArchive
    End Sub
    Sub ClearArchive()
    Dim fso 'As Scripting.FileSystemObject
    Dim fld 'As Scripting.Folder
    Dim f 'As Scripting.File
    Dim delLogName, delLogOut, delCtr
    Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set fld = fso.GetFolder(filePath)
    delLogName = filePath & "Nightly Backup - Backup Logs Deleted" & ".txt"
    Set delLogOut = fso.CreateTextFile(delLogName, True)
    delLogOut.WriteLine(delLogName)
    delLogOut.WriteLine("")
    delLogOut.WriteLine("-- The following log files were deleted on " & DateValue(Now()) & " at " & TimeValue(Now()))
    delLogOut.WriteLine("")
    delCtr = 0
    For Each f In fld.Files
    If Left(f.Name, 48) = "Nightly Backup - SQL Server Databases_Subplan_1_" And Right(LCase(f.Name), 4) = ".txt" Then
    If DateDiff("d", f.DateCreated, Date()) > holdDays Then
    delLogOut.WriteLine(f.Name)
    fso.DeleteFile f, True
    delCtr = delCtr + 1
    End If
    End If
    Next
    If delCtr = 0 Then
    delLogOut.WriteLine("No log files were deleted this run...")
    End If
    Set fld = Nothing
    Set fso = Nothing
    delLogOut.Close
    End Sub
    If I put the script in its own file and run it from the command prompt, it runs just fine. If the script runs from the SQL Server Agent job, the for-loop will delete the files correctly, but the filenames
    do not get written to the deletion log file and the counter does not get incremented, so according to the job log, nothing was deleted. Why does the script run differently from each invocation? It can't be a permission thing, the service that logs in has full
    access to the directory and the files do get deleted. Any ideas out there?
    Between this and other outstanding issues, I'm quickly losing faith in SQL Server.  >=o(

    to run the file "when user is not logged in"
    that is why  i want to refresh my excel file through sql agent ,which can be scheduled to any time and cab be run as SQL agent credentials.
    Can you please help me on this ...i have tried all the option but nothing working .. found hope by seeing your solution.

  • Selecting different homes from command prompt

    Hi Gurus,
    Oracle client-9201
    Oracle client-10201
    Win XP SP2
    We have two oracle homes. We want to switch it from one to another. We have restriction that this should be done from command prompt only. Although I can change homes launching latest OUI and going to "INSTALLED PRODUCTS" tab where we find ENVIRONMENT tab. There it is possible to change home and apply. But this thing I want to do from command prompt.
    Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Regards.
    Virendra

    No, you don't want it to be from a command prompt and from OUI. What you want is to be able to do this without the need to visit all 400 client boxes. The method is irrelevant, as long as it efficiently achieves your real goal.That is true.
    You keep saying "command prompt" and "OUI", but can't visit all the necessary machines. So what were you envisioning? Creating some batch file you could distribute to all affected users over the network, and ask them to execute said batch file? That may (or may not) be valid, but to find the best solution we have to clearly define the real requirements and separate that from any pre-concieved solution.You can say it is my pre-concieved assumption that I will go with Command Prompt/OUI. But the real problem is I don't want to visit all machines. It can be a batch file distributed to all machines or our network people may execute it sitting on domain controller machine from which he can run programs in background of any machine in network.
    From the other things discussed on this thread, I suspect you are going to have to blow in some registry hack, by one of several possible means. But first we have to know what your real constraints are and all of the options open to you.Real constraint is, We don't want (rather can't) visit all 400 terminals.
    Do you have the ability to push registry settings at client logon?Yes, We can.
    Can you guarantee the consistency of configuration of all 400 clients?Home name and Location may be different on different machines.
    Do you have the ability to force the automatic execution of a command file from a file server and client log-on time?Yes, it is possible.
    Are you working with your network people to explore what help they might be able to provide on the above points?They may help us depending upon the requirement.

  • Compiling via the command prompt?

    Hi, I need to compile a program via the command prompt, and I need help setting up the windows environmental variables. I have followed multiple online tutorials on how to do this, but I keep getting the classDefNotFound exception. Can somebody please tell me which variables I should set? Thanks.

    since you are getting a java error, you don't need to change your PATH. All what remains is your CLASSPATH variable. Let's say you have created a directory c:\classes and you store all your classes in subdirectories according to their package. Then your CLASSPATH would like like this:
    .;c:\classes
    Note the dot at the beginning, that means "current directory", so the directory where you invoke java/javac is also part of the classpath. Note also that each item in the classpath is seperated with a ; .
    If you need to add jars to the classpath, don't add the directory containing the jars but add the jars themselves.
    .;c:\classes;c:\jar\yourjar.jar;c:\jar\otherjar.jar
    Hope that helps.

  • Publishing RoboHelp projects using third-party app and RH command prompt

    Hi -
    I am curious to know if anyone has used the RH command prompt to publish a RH project using a third party application - i.e. homegrown app?
    I'm thinking of creating an application that will allow RH users register their projects for knowledge management purposes. It would act somewhat like an LMS where users could post their dev files on a network share. When ready to review with the customer, the would use the registration tool to push the project to preview. The app would call the RH command prompt using a server side technology, in my case .NET, and supply the necessary arguments and push the generated project to preview. Once it had been reviewed and ready, then the user could push to production.
    Any thoughts on this - reasons why this wouldn't work, good, bad, ugly, alternatives? - all constructive comments welcome
    Thanks

    Hi there
    I see some flaws with that.

     It would act somewhat like an LMS where users could post their dev files on a network share.
    Dev files need to always be local. Placing on a network share for the purposes of using RoboHelp to compile or generate is risky business and may explode in your face. LMS to me means Learning Management System. Those are typically used for eLearning. RoboHelp does help systems. Captivate does eLearning. So you are losing me with your LMS reference.
    When ready to review with the customer, the would use the registration tool to push the project to preview.
    I'm lost. What "registration tool" are you even referring to here? Or is this what you are planning on creating and that's what you are choosing to call it?
    The app would call the RH command prompt using a server side technology, in my case .NET, and supply the necessary arguments and push the generated project to preview.
    There is no "preview" of projects. Preview of individual topics, sure. But not for a project. There is only compile or generate to create the final output.
    Once it had been reviewed and ready, then the user could push to production.
    Sounds like what one might typically accomplish using RoboHelp in a typical development cycle. You edit content on the local hard drive. If a review is needed, you compile or generate the content and place the output on a server. After approval is complete the content is then copied to the production server.
    Sure sounds like you are attempting to reinvent the wheel in many situations here.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Executing multiple command lines in command prompt (windows)

    Hi,
    I am currrently using the command prompt in the windows to try to send a command to the microcontroller that is connected through TCP connection.
    I am able to use the normal cmd.exe to send the command but am unable to send all the command successfully using labview.
    The Vi. that I am using the the system exec.vi found in labview connectivity section.
    Basically what I want to send is "telnet A1" in the cmd.exe to establish connection to the microcontroller, followed by "FOR A1 100 GO" which will be intepreted by the microcontroller to make the necessary motion. But currently, the problem is that I can only establish connection using the system exec.vi but am unable to send the second part of the message "FOR A1 100 GO".
    My command line i tried typing is cme.exe /K telnet A1 & FOR A1 100 GO. it seems that labview is only able to execute the first command part. Is there any other alternatives?
    Thanks everyone for your help.
    Solved!

    Hi,
    Thanks for the help, the picture shows 1 of the error which state Error 56, the error occurs occasionally whenever I have used the command prompt to send a message to the microcontroller.
    Alternatively, there are times when no errors occur but my microcontroller does not move as well. It does move if I were to send the command through the cmd prompt.
    And I have attached a picture of my program as well. I am currently using Labview 2010 32bit. Thanks.
