Comments needed on my library structure

Please forgive my aperture ignorance but..
here is a screen shot of my library in aperture.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2552/41102236340658b189e6o.jpg
I started off using iphoto and imported everything into aperture.
I think they are managed files (i.e. actually in aperture)
I back photos up onto two external drives using time machine and vaults.
wrt new imports, they come into the Blue "iphoto library" folder as a new project, then i move them into the blue "Events" folder where all my other events/photos are.
Is this a bad way to do things? What are it's pitfalls and can or should i do anything about it?
Help and opinions appreciated.

A couple of things (but remember there are many ways to manage your library)
- I had a number of iPhoto libraries. I keep them intact (either on my machine or on a server) and just added them to Aperture as referenced files only. Then easy to backup the iPhoto libraries only once since they do not change over time.
- when you import from your card into aperture, just before you click the Import button just click down in your library somewhere other than under the iPhoto library and then click New Project. You can add folders etc and organize your projects however you want.

  • Iphoto 6 : library structure

    Greetings ;
I'm new to mac. I've been reading thru the various posts and haven't found a matching situation at least described this way.
i've done what i now know what not to do by somehow through finder altering something in the IPhoto Library.
This is a finder view of the 2006 library structure:
    Iphoto 6 Library
Data (this i understand to be thumbnails)
    2006
    rolls 1 - 13 exist (each populated)
    Originals
    2006
    rolls 1 - 13 exist (each populated)
Iphoto 6 was used to import photos from Canon.
The photos were viewable from within Iphoto 6.
    Now they are not.
    While in Iphoto 6
Library - has some photos in it
    Early Photos (no photos)
    2003 (no photos)
    2004 (no photos)
    2005 (some photos)
    2006 (no photos)
Last 14 Months (changed via preferences)
    Last 12 Months
    Trash
The good thing is Rolls 1 thru 13 (data and original) contain all the images per each download via iPhoto 6 (even tho they are repeats as i was experiencing download problems with my camera and repeated the download about 8 times hence rolls 6 - 13 are partial duplicates of each other.
i created a duplicate of the iPhoto Library in the desktop for now.
by the various posts i attempted the command option iphoto rebuild and selected the all options - it completed ok but the rolls 1-13 in the HD file structure are not corresponding while in IPhoto app.
    While in iPhoto app:
i see no rolls and the 2006 year is completely empty.
likewise the 2005 year and the library have some pictures in them but there is no corresponding 2005 or library in the finder view of both the data and the original.
The Finder view of the structure only shows 2006 (rolls 1 -13) for both data and original.
Further : I'm not positive of the sequence here as i'm new to mac and did what i thought was ok but now know otherwise. I created albums and copied/moved (not sure) photos from the library to the albums then moved/ copied from the library to the iPhoto trash (most of which are still there).
I can only tell you where things are now and not exactly how they got this way.
    So...
    1) So How do I sync up the 13 rolls viewable in finder with something that makes sense while in iPhoto ?
    2) What did the rebuild do for me as I hoped it would solve the 13 roll phenomenon?
The per import from camera creating a new roll within iPhoto as I now understand is the way it operates is where i'd like to get back to so I can at least start from ground zero.
    Thanks for the assistance.

Isn't the cache folder titled "iPod Photo Cache"? It has to do with adding photos to an iPod. Even if you don't sync photos to an ipod there'll be that folder if you've ever connected an iPod.
The Data folder contains the thumbnail files for each photo.
Regarding the year folder with the old structure, I believe it's like our appendix, no longer needed. I had a 2005 folder with just photo in it. I moved it to the desktop and opened iPhoto, went to the roll that had that picture in and it was there and useable. I've since trashed that 2005 folder. Give it a try. and see if there's any problems with removing it. Make a backup of the library folder beforehand just in case.
There is some sort of bug with the roll dates. When you import an old folder of files it uses one of the modified dates instead of the captured date on many of the rolls. I haven't figured out how it determines which date on which photo to use. It's easy to change the date of the roll so it is located in the proper chronological position among the other rolls.
The current folder structure is a result of many requests to get iPhoto in line with other more professional image management applications. iPhoto's new capability of being able to use alias files instead of copying the entire file into it's new folder system allows it to be able to use soruce image files that are on another HD/CD /DVD and if the source files are not mounted iPhoto can still see the thumbnails, make and manipulate albums but cannot edit or work with books, slideshow or calendars. Once the photos come back on line iPhoto can use them again. This way users can develop their own folder/cataloging system and iPhoto will construct it's library in accordance with it.

  • Xfer via Timemachine -MBP-Imac Need to consolidate library

MBP died.  Used Time machine to move everything to IMAC.  On MBP, I used referenced files for Apeture.  After the migration, my library structure, projects transferred fine.  The actual photos moved also.  However, they are not connected. Supposedly the aperture library is referencing the location of the photos on the MBP and did not change to the imac location during the time machine xfer.  Apple help said i needed to consolidate the libraries.  I dont understand how.  I would appreciate any help.

    What version of iPhoto?
With iPhoto '11 version 9.3 and Aperature 3.3 you can merge libraries in Aperature
Otherwise the only solution to merging is the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -
Your exporting and importing merges teh photos but no versions, no metadate, etc

  • Can anyone recommend a good UPK library structure for Oracle financials 11.5.10.2 (using UPK 11.1)?

Hi, Can anyone recommend a good UPK library structure for Oracle financials 11.5.10.2 (using UPK 11.1) please?

If you are using the application server that comes with Oracle Applications - you probably need to use the JDeveloper version that comes with that one too. (The OAF forum will have more info on this).
If you are using JDeveloper 10.1.3 then you can use a stand alone OC4J 10.1.3 to deploy your applications - and save yourself the hassle of messing up with your apps server.

  • I need help with event structure. I am trying to feed the index of the array, the index can vary from 0 to 7. Based on the logic ouput of a comparison, the index buffer should increment ?

I need help with event structure.
I am trying to feed the index of the array, the index number can vary from 0 to 7.
Based on the logic ouput of a comparison, the index buffer should increment
or decrement every time the output of comparsion changes(event change). I guess I need to use event structure?
(My event code doesn't execute when there is an  event at its input /comparator changes its boolean state.
Anyone coded on similar lines? Any ideas appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

You don't need an Event Structure, a simple State Machine would be more appropriate.
There are many examples of State Machines within this forum.

  • ITunes needs a new library

When I open iTunes a message appears telling me iTunes needs a new library and I either have to create a new one or choose an old one.  I want to choose an old iTunes library but when I go to Music-iTunes-Previous iTunes Libraries and click the Library this message appears:
The file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.
How do I get iTunes working again/ How do I get permission to use my old iTunes library?

    Hi there bwhong3614,
I would recommend taking a look at the information found in the article below if your iTunes library is empty after an update.
No content shows up in iTunes after updating

  • Including comments entered from Document Library to Records Center Record Library

We are currently sending documents from a SharePoint 2010 site to a Records Center.
We are using the Collect Signatures workflow, and edited this default workflow in SharePoint Designer to then send the document to a Records Center when both signatures have been applied.
Everything is working well, but we'd like to enter comments @ the originating document library...which we can do now...and have those comments get sent over to the Records Center as well when the document is signed by both people.
Are we able to do this?  ...have comments entered in the Document Library show up in the Records Center Records Library?
    Thank you!

    Hi Joe,
If your settings are configured as below,
The site collection Record Declaration Settings are set to "Block Edit and Delete"
The Record Library is set to "Automatically declare items as records when they are added to this list."
    The Drop Off Library Record Declaration Setting is set to site collection default: Do not allow the manual declaration of records;
then the item(e.g. Test.xlsx) routed from "Drop Off Library" will be declared as a record in this Record Library, which is inherited from site collection setting "Block Edit and Delete" and auto declare on library option is enabled, then
this "Test.xlsx" item will be read-only as record and it can not be edited and deleted by design.
From the following error message you provided, it seems you secondly upload the Test.xlsx file in "Drop Off Library", then this time the "Content Organizer" will route
this second Test.xlsx file to the Record Library again, however it cannot update a read-only item with the same name for Test.xlsx previously existed in the Record Library.
"Unexpected Routing Engine: File DropOffLibrary/Test.xlsx could not be routed to /sites/records/Records/101-01 in site http://records/sites/records : This item cannot be updated because it is locked as read-only."
If above is the case, for resolving this issue, you can use the following two methods:
    1. Use the option "<label for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_versioningSection_appendUniqueCharsRadioButton">Append unique characters to the end of duplicate filenames</label>" for "Content Organizer" settings.
    2. Or use the option "<label for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_recordBehaviorSection_recordBlockDeleteRadioButton">Block Delete</label>" for site collection "Record Declaration" Settings.

  • Hi, I'm new to Mac and need my photo file structure to resemble what it was on my PC

I uploaded all my new photos from my PC, which then fed into iphoto.
However when I look into the iphoto library they have automatically created folder and file names, rather than what they were names in my PC. In the iphoto ap they appear fine there.
How do I get the library structure to resemble the folder names given in the iphoto ap or on my old pc?
It is the latest operating structure and iphoto ap running.

Just tp highlight a couple of major issues with a referenced library
Importing: Copy items to the iPhoto Library
This preference is turned on by default. When you import photos from a hard disk, iPhoto copies(duplicates) the photos to the iPhoto library and uses the copies. The original photos remain untouched in their current locations.
If you have an extensive collection of photos on your computer and you want to keep your current file organization, you can have iPhoto point to your original photo files instead of importing them into your iPhoto library. To have iPhoto access your photos from their current locations on your hard disk (rather than making copies of them), deselect this checkbox. Note that if you edit one of these images in iPhoto, the edited version is saved in the iPhoto library and the original file remains untouched.
If you turn off this preference, be sure not to move the photos from the location from which they were imported. If you move the files, your iPhoto library won’t work correctly.
So you still have not reporduced the PC structure since you only have that structure for the original photos - no edits appear in that structure
    Importing is more compicated
Deleting ai more complicated since you have to delete form iPhoto nand then from yoru own managed file structure
and most critically you can not more the photos - so replacing defective hardware or upgrading to a larger hard drive or to a new computer is not possible
Plus there is no gain from a referenced library - so I suggest you do not recommend it since it does not work for hardly anyone

  • After 10.8.3 update issues that I need to repair library, does any one know what to do?

Hello, I am getting a window only on my network user account that says Mac OS X needs to repair library to run application, it glocks up app store, reminders, contacs, note pad, etc, can anyone help, thnks in advance

    This just worked for me:
Fixed it! Seems to be a permissioning problem in the Library folder.  This is what I did
    Open Finder
    Go -> Go to Folder -> ~/Library
Get Info on the Library folder
    Set the permissions as follows:
       <username>(Me): Read & Write
       everyone: No Access
You should have just these two.  If there are any other account or group names remove them.
Click on the little gear and select 'Apply to enclosed items...'
It will take a while to go through the entire library and change the permissions.  After that everything worked properly, for me at least.

  • Help needed using content and structure functionality

Several times now I have had users who wanted to move libraries or lists, etc. from one place within a site collection to another.
The problem is that often, when they go into content and structure, select their source, the only action that appears is Delete, rather than also the copy or move functionality.
Even when I connect to the farm with the farm account, I see the same issue - the copy and move actions are greyed out. The farm account is one of the site collection owners, as well as of course in the farm admin group.
Are there certain types of things which cannot be copied or moved? One user is just trying to move a folder of files from a document library to a different location (from working to completed), while another user wants to move most of the files from an old
    project to a new project.
I am having a tough time understanding why sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.

Thank you for your answer. The user did try to use the windows explorer method, and got an error saying that the operation could not find the source.
I appreciate the note about moving the files individually. I have suggested that.
I also appreciate the caution about using move not copy if the versions are needed.
In one case we have a user who is trying to consolidate 2 different sharepoint sites into 1 site.
She has asked about moving one into the other.
I presume that any moving that takes place will overwrite an object of the same name that exists on the other side? Or is there a prompt to the user before the overwrite takes place?
Thank you so much for your help.

  • None of the comments...contained in structure tree and other errors

    1.  When running the "full check" accessibility report following creation of a PDF from MS Word, I get the following error for every page that has a header and footer:
None of the comments or other types of annotations on this page are contained in the structure tree.
I've created other PDFs in the same way with similar headers and footers and never had a problem with the headers & footers.  There were no comments or tracked changes or similar in the MS Word document when I converted it.
When I use "find" in the Tags window:
Artifacts - it "finds" every header & footer
Umarked Annotations, Unmarked Links:  it finds the "Doc ID:  " text from every footer
Ummarked Content:  points to each row of text, line, and blank line in headers & footers (individually) of each page
Unmarked Comment & OCR Suspects:  nothing found
    2.  It tags the "Doc ID:  " text in the footer on some pages as an "Inaccessible link" (it's not a link and why only some pages???)
    3.  Tab order may be inconsistent with the structure order - I received 3 of these even though I marked every page with "use document structure" (we have found the defaults don't work, so we have to mark every single page - and this particular document is 180 pages long!)
Does anyone have any idea WHY I'm getting these errors?  I'm following our process that has worked successfully on all other documents!

  • IPod folder structure and content doesn't match iTunes Library structure

My iTunes Library has the following folders:
    Music
    Podcasts
    Audiobooks
As expected, the Podcasts folder contains podcasts I have subscribed to, and the Audiobooks folder contains Audiobooks I purchased. So far, so good.
However, in addition to CDs I imported, the Music folder also contains files originating from manual audio recordings I made via TotalRecorder.
This is confusing enough, but in the iPod the situation is even more confusing, i.e. everything comes under Music, which has the following subfolders (among others): Albums, Songs, Podcasts, Audiobooks.
The Podcasts and Audiobooks folders seem OK, but the Albums folder seems to contain not only the CDs, but also all the podcasts.
And the only place I can find my manual recordings is under Songs.
Any suggestions for bringing some order into this apparent chaos?
Ideally I would like to be able to create a new folder called, say, Recordings, in my iTunes Library, and I would like my top level folders in my iTunes Library to match those on the iPod.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions/comments.

Which model of iPod do you have? I have a 160GB Classic (this forum) which _does not_ show Podcasts under the Music folder, and apparently does not have an option to do so. However, I also have a 5th generation 30GB video iPod, which does show Podcasts under the Music folder. Straight away, you'll notice that different modles behave differently, so we need to know.
So, that's the first thing to sort out.
Then, on your manual recordings, did you add all the relevant artist information to the file (i.e. the MP3 tags) when you created them? If not, that will be why they only show up in songs, (but there may be another cause too!). You can fill in any missing information by highlighting the song and clicking on *File/Get Info* and adding the info then.
In the long term, the probably answer to your manual files is to give them their own genre and then search for them that way.

  • Retrieving SharePoint Comments from a Pages Library

    Hi,
I wonder if there is anyway to retrieve comments from a SharePoint Pages library. We have comments enabled in our Pages library and need to create a filter that brings results based on the number of counts of comments. I wanted to retrieve comments initially
from SPQuery but apparently comments are stored in a social feature database as opposed to residing in the library. I tried fetching the the comments following this

  • Commenting on blogs and file structures

    Hi,
two problems. I was once able to post comments to my blog but now it won't work. I get the processing error when anyone clicks on add comment. I have tried making new pages and republishing, etc. and nothing works.
Also, is there any way to change the file structure within iWeb? It's slightly annoying having a main page that is www.whatever.com/iWeb/Site/home.html. It would be so much nicer to just have /index.html or /blog.html etc.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I too am having the exact same issue and need to figure out a solution as soon as possible. My site is hosted on .mac and I'm using the iWeb version previous to iWeb '08.
I am able to add a comment by selecting "see more comments" on the page (the add a comment link is not appearing on the site). Once I click on "see more comments" it displays a "add comment" link.
When I click on "add comment", I get the same error, "We're sorry. We are having a problem processing your request."
What can I do to fix this issue?
    Thanks for your help!
