Commissioning a new CAS server in existing Exchange 2013 org

I have a question about why my Outlook client would connect to a newly Exchange 2013 CAS server although not a lot of configuration has been done on it? Also, the existing CAS servers are configured with a third party load balancer and the new server was
not added to the existing array configuration?
I do understand the connectivity and the integration between the CAS and the MAILBOX servers and I would like to know if there is a maintenance mode of the CAs server that has just been deployed into an existing org and configure all the relevant info before
allowing connections to it? Thanks.
Chris

  • New Exchange 2013 CAS server in existing Exchange 2007 Organization

    Dear Friends,
We have exchange 2007 SP3 with CU13 installed with single copy cluster for database and 1 OWA server for CAS/HT. We will migrate from current to Exchange 2013SP1. As we want to have HA, we have installed 2 new Exchange 2013 SP1 CAS server on widnows 2012
R2 after preparing our organisation for Exchange 2013. The setup went smooth without any error and successfully installed CAS with management tools. After installation it ask to reboot the server which we did. Now after reboot, we are not able to run Exchange
Management Sell. It never connects to the new server. In our old 2007 EMS also doesn't list any exchange 2013 server. We are also not able to connect to new CAS servers with below URL:
    https://servername/ecp/?ExchClientVer=15
Its says site under maintenance. Please advise what to check. We were thinking of deploying CAS 1st and make it co-exist with Exchange 2007 before deploying Exchange 2013 mailbox server which will be setup in DAG. What are we doing wrong.
    Thanks in advance!!

If you have only the 2013 CAS installed and not the mailbox role, then nothing will really work. Remember, in 2013, the mailbox role does all the work, the CAS is simply a proxy for the most part.

  • New CAS for Load Balancing Exchange 2007

I want to add a new CAS to an existing Exchange 2007 environment (there is already one CAS and it functions properly) to allow for load balancing. After adding the new server I wanted to do some testing (before I actually set it up for load balancing).
If I try to log in to a mailbox using OWA I get an error stating that "Exception type: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.ConnectionFailedTransient ExceptionException message: Cannot open mailbox". I am sure I am missing something simple, but cannot
figure it out. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Is your new CAS in the same Windows site as the rest of your Exchange servers?  In Exchange 2007 and 2010, the CAS needs to be in the same Windows site as the mailbox it is servicing (unless you are accessing from the Internet and the other site has
    no externally accessible CAS).

  • New AD Server with existed IP address

    Hi,
Our existed AD server is win 2003, and we are going to have a new Win 2012 AD Server.
Since the win 2003 AD server is also the dns server in our domain, all our clients' dns setting is point to that win 2003 AD.
I'm thinking let the new Win 2012 AD Server to have the old IP address and also work as dns server, the old win 2003 AD server to a new IP address.
    Well that cause side effects?
    Thanks for help.

  • Exchange 2013 CAS server connection to Exchange 2010 Mailbox server

    Hi Guys,
I have a quick question i am planning to upgrade my infra from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 and i have come across a small question, my infra looks likes below
3 Exchange server (CAS+ HT + MBX roles) Exchange 2010
1 Exchange server MBX role For journlaing Exchange 2010
1 CAS for internet owa access Exchange 2010
Now i will be  installing exchange 2013 CAS on 2 box and MBX on 3 box
will decomm the 3 exchange box which has (CAS+ HT + MBX roles) and 1 CAS which we use for owa access.
will keep the Journaling server as it is will not be decomming it as of now.
My question is is will i be able to connect to the journaling mailbox's which are hosted on exchange 2010 journaling server without actually having any 2010 cas server, will exchange 2013 cas directly help me to connect to the journal mailbox or would i need
to add CAS role on Exchange 2010 journaling server and enable outlook anywhere configure the directories with the url's to make it working.
    Please suggest on the same.
    BR/Deepak

    Hi TheLearner,
    Thank you for your question.
Exchange 2013 didn’t connect to the journal mailbox directly when we access it by outlook/OWA. The journal mailbox will connect the former Exchange 2010 CAS. Or we could migrate Journaling mailbox to Exchange 2013. Because Exchange 2010  could communicate
with Exchange 2010 by RPC, but Exchange 2013 could communicate with Exchange 2013 by HTTPS.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,
    Jim

  • Server 2012 and Exchange 2013 Migration from SBS 2011

Server UpgradeI'm migrating an SBS 2011 server to a new machine with Server 2012 R2 and a Hyper-V server running Exchange 2013. I've set up the new machine, all is running well in a test environment. I now want to migrate the old server to new. These are the steps I'm going to take and I wanted advice for any modifications or errors. 1. Demote DC on Server 2012 that I set up to test. 2. Join new Server 2012 to existing SBS 2011 domain. 3. Promote Server 2012 to DC. 4. Join the Hyper-V Server 2012 to the Server 2012 domain.5. Migrate Exchange 2010 on the SBS 2011 Server to Exchange 2013. 6. Transfer FSMO role from SBS 2011 Server to Server 2012 DC. I'll copy shared data files using robocopy. The only things I'm not sure about is the FSMO order, when to do that and the fact that I already have Exchange 2013 installed in the test...

I recently acquired a SuperMicro chassis that has a SAS2 expander backplane. It has SFF-8087 ports on it.http://www.supermicro.com/manuals/other/BPN-SAS2-846EL.pdfI made a post on another forum and someone mentioned that the card couldn't be used with that backplane since it's a SATA controller, however, the backplane is both SAS and SATA device compliant, it's only the RAID controller, as far as I know, that is a "SATA II" controller, and not a SAS controller. So, I couldn't find anything in the official documentation of this controller on whether or not it was able to control SAS devices. The card itself has a 3 SFF-8087 ports though, couldn't this theoretically still be used with a SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 cable(seen below)since the backplane is a SAS/SATA backplane?...

  • Is it possible to migrate Small Business Server 2008 to Exchange 2013 install on it's own member server?

Trying to figure out of migration to Exchange 2013 is possible on a existing SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007.  If it's possible, is it support by Microsoft as well?
    Thank you!

Are you planning to get rid of the SBS server or you would like to keep it as a DC, DHCP, DNS, and SharePoint server?
You should be able to upgrade to Exchange 2013, but there are more details to consider. The following six part series outlines this process:

  • Lync Server Integration with Exchange 2013

    Hello,
I have Exchange 2013 standard edition server installed and running successfully on a Windows 2012 machine. Now, I would like to have a Lync 2013 server integrated with it. I came across some links telling that its not possible to integrate Unified Messaging
in the Exchange standard edition and would need an Enterprise edition license. But, when I checked my ECP, I could see that UM is already there and its enabled.
So, Is it possible to integrate Lync 2013 with Exchange 2013 standard edition? What all things I need to take care of while Integrating? If someone could shed some light on this, that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nash Burns

Yes you can integrate Lync 2013 with Exchange 2013 Standard, the only big difference between Exchange 2013 Standard vs Enterprise is the number of mailbox databases (5 vs 50).
Follow this link for information on integrating the two: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688098.aspx (specifically integrating Lync with Exchange for Voicemail http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj687983.aspx)
Having said that, the confusion may be related to User CALs. You need Exchange Enterprise User CALs to use the Unified Messaging components. (I believe they still work regardless, but
to be properly licensed and compliant you need to have the correct number of Enterprise CALs for the number of users that use UM)

  • Multiple owa sites on a single server 2012 with exchange 2013 (mailbox, cas)

    hi,
    I'm trying to
set up an exchange server 2013 on windows 2012 with all roles installed for 2 owa virtual directory, one for integrated windows authentication and the other for forms-based authentication.
    I followed a tutorial for exchange 2010.
    http://technicaljeditrials.info/2011/02/28/exchange-2010-multiple-owaecp-directories-part-1/
    Step 1: IP Address
Obtain a second IP address and add it to the NIC of your server.
    Step 2: DNS
Add a DNS entry for That secondary IP address for the name we will want to use in the new FBA OWA Web site.
    I have chosen "testwebmail."
Be sure there is a valid SSL certificate (recommended to have UC or SAN
SSL certs) on the server Which has the new name "testwebmail" that will be used in the certificate.
    Step 3: New Web Site
Create a new web site in IIS on the Client Access Server and bind it to the new IP address used in step 1.
Step 4: Adding Exchange Virtual Directories
The web site has been created and bound to the secondary IP address of our server.
Also the DNS record That will be used to access the OWA FBA new page was added to DNS.
The next step is to go into EMS and begin adding our virtual directories for OWA and ECP.
Login to the Exchange server and open the Exchange Management Shell.
Then run Get-Get-OWAVirtualDirectory and ECPVirtualDirectory to see the default OWA and ECP directories.
    New-OWAVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName FBA -InternalUrl https://testwebmail.mylab.ad/owa
    New-ECPVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName FBA -InternalUrl https://testwebmail.mylab.ad/ecp
Step 5: Configure the Virtual Directories
To configure the virtual directories we will disable FBA on the Default Web Site OWA and ECP virtual directories
Set-OWAVirtualDirectory -Identity "OWA (Default Web Site)" -WindowsAuthentication
    $true -BasicAuthentication $false  -FormsBasedAuthentication $false
Set-ECPVirtualDirectory -Identity "ECP (Default Web Site)"
    -WindowsAuthentication $true -BasicAuthentication $false  -FormsBasedAuthentication
    $false
    Step 6: iisreset
now if I access the default site I log in with
windows integrated authentication, but when I try to access the second site with forms authentication tells me username or password incorrect
Tell me you know where I'm wrong?
    thanks
    Greetings
    Daniele

    Hello,
    Something like this:
    New-OWAVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName "FBA"
Enable the Basic authentication via running the following command:
    Set-OWAVirtualDirectory -Identity "yourservername\owa (FBA)" -BasicAuthentication $true
Restart the IIS admin service in services.msc

  • Best way to spec a new Linux server from existing Windows 2003 server?

We are looking to upgrade our servers to 11.1.2 and I am looking for some documentation/suggestions on the best way to spec the new box on a Linux platform.
I do have the current documentation from ORACLE with regard to "Estimating Disk and Memory Requirements" but am looking for some processor suggestions as well..
Any thoughts or ideas would be welcomed.
Especially helpful would be anyone who is currently running in a Linux environment any pitfalls or issues you've been having with hardware or software.
    Thanks in advance.
    Adam,

I don't think it is possible to recommend you any hardware setup without knowing your environment, budget and expertise.
If you plan to install Enterprise Linux, like Oracle Linux, you should look into getting server hardware and not a desktop system. You may also want think about using Oracle VM virtualization products.
Are you looking for rackmount or blade systems? it might be possible to limit your hardware decision between HP, Dell and IBM. I would personally prefer HP, but that's a matter of experience.
You should probably find out your OS requirements. E-business products and installation instructions are usually designed for the OS version that existed at that time. If you install a newer version of the OS you may run into configuration or backward compatibility issues that may require to install additional software. You should check your OS requirements first before purchasing any hardware. The newest hardware may not support older versions of the OS.
The HP support side shows a Linux certification matrix at: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hplinuxcert.html which might be helpful should you decide to get HP equipment.
You might also want to check your current Oracle licensing if you upgrade to a faster or more CPU's.

  • New Application server on existing Non-Unicode CI

    Hello all,
We upgraded our BW 3.5 system to BW 7 ehp 1 late last year; due to the need for increased capacity we want to add an application server.  The BW 7 system is Non-Unicode (NUC), and in SAPINST GUI I do not see any options for a NUC installation.  I found a Note stating this fact, "all new installations will be Unicode by default".
So my question is, what are my options here?   A UC conversion project is not an option at this time.  We have a couple of projects that require no BW down time for the next 2 months.  However, at the completion of those two projects is when the extra capacity is needed; so I don't have a window to conduct the conversion.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jose

    >  "all new installations will be Unicode by default".
    >
    > So my question is, what are my options here?   A UC conversion project is not an option at this time.
Since the start of BW 7.0 all installations are Unicode-only and all upgrades have to do a Unicode conversion. The reason is the fact, that BW 7.0 makes heavy use of Java which is not supported with non-Unicode backend systems:
Note 975768 - Deprecation of Java features with non-Unicode Backend
Note 838402 - Problems within non-Unicode system landscapes
So before installing new unsupported system landscapes I can just highly recommend (not to say 'urge' you) to convert your current BW system to Unicode. With a good preparation this can be done on a weekend - or less.

  • AD user login or services will affect if we add new NPS server in existing AD environment ?

    Hi
We have three Domain controllers in our company in Windows 2008 R2 platform and different RODCs .We would like to add an additional NPS server in it.Existing AD user login or services will affect by this?

    Hi,
Based on my research, if the NPS server is a member of an AD DS domain, NPS uses the directory service as its user account database and is part of
a single sign-on solution. The same set of credentials is used for network access control and to log on to an AD DS domain. NPS will compare user credentials that it receives from network access servers with the credentials that are stored for the user
account in AD DS to perform authentication. Furthermore, NPS server uses network policy and checks user account dial-in properties in AD DS to authorize connection requests.
For more information, please refer to the link below:
Register the NPS Server in Active Directory Domain Services

  • Need to Setup Project Server in existing SharePoint 2013 farm

    Hi
I have already SharePoint 2013 farm having  4-WFE Servers, 2-Application Servers, 3-dedicated Search Servers, 2-DB servers (Clustering enabled). Now I want to add one more App server having Project Server 2013 in this existing farm environment so Please
check the below steps. Please let me know If I am wrong in the approach.
Need to install PS 2013 on all the WFE, Applications and Search Servers.
Need to Run Sharepoint wizard on all the servers one by one. (Is it mandatory to run wizard on each server or should run only on application servers only)
The project Server service should run only on application servers.
Regards, Pankaj Waghmare - MCTS | Consultant

    Hello,
Those steps are correct for high level :) One thing you might need to do is after installing Project Server on all the servers is apply the same CU / SP to Project Server as SharePoint (using the Project Server equivalent patch) so Project Server and SharePoint
are patched at the same level. I would do this after installing PS2013 and before you run the wizard on each server.
I would ensure you test this on a non prod farm first and ensure you have a roll back plan in place.

  • Exchange 2013 autodiscover not working from Externally

    Hi
i have exchange 2010 sp3(2Mb, 2hub/cas). I installed exchange 2013 servers(2MB, 2CAS). For coexistence i generated new certifcate with new cas from third party. I installed that certificate in that cas and assigned all services. i changed all my virtual
directories service url. I didnt import the new certificate to exchange 2010 cas server and i didnt change url to legacy link. But still iam able to check exchange 2010 user mailbox owa, activesync and autodiscover without any certificate error.
If i try to browse owa, its going to 2013 server, if user is exchange 2010 user and its redirecting to exchange 2010 owa with same link.
But i dont know how above things is working without importing to new certificate...
Main problem is i am not able to configure exchange 2013 users outlookanywhere, Autodiscover from externally...
So in tmg i pointed the outlook anywhere ip address new cas server, now both exchange 2010 and exchange 2013 users while OA from external, its keep on asking password... Not accepting it...
Please help me to fix this issue..

    Hi ,
On TMG please have the outlook anywhere rule like below and check the status.
    Step
    1 :
On the TMG rule - >authentication delegation ---> select the option "no delegation users can authenticate directly"
    Step
    2 :
on the users tab in the TMG rule - just add "all users" group on that rule.
By having the above settings we have avoided the issues in your environment.
Note : Based on the above setting's , Each and everyone in exchange will have a access to the outlook anywhere from external world , because there would not be having any restriction on the TMG rules.
Please have a look in to the below link , it will give you some ideas which is related to TMG
