Help with apps misbehaving!

Hi there, I'm posting here in the thinking this is the right forum to post to...
So, I've been browsing the SL and Mavericks forums for the last days but although I have fetched some useful tips and answers, still need some help. Let me put it diary-style so I can be more concise ;)
Here's my current system profile:
iMac 27" (aluminium back- if I'm no wrong, from around late 2009-mid 2010)
MacOS 10.6.1 Never updated.
3.06 Ghz Intel Core2 Duo
4Gb RAM
LaCie Big Disk via FireWire 800
Internet access via Ethernet port (cable)
And here's The Issues Log:
– Day one: First ever Kernel Panic. Restart. Nothing (apparently) wrong. If. I recall correctly, I was about to send some file over WeTransfer..
– 3 weeks elapsed: Second Kernel Panic. Same. iMac restarts fine. Apps fine. No missing files. No misbehaviour experiences. I was just working on InDesign or maybe Illustrator.
– After a month or so: One morning, Skype decides on its own to stop launching. The night before, I chatted with one of my clients, fine as always, but at the next day, nothing. Computer is usually shut off for the night. And so it was that night. Updated Skype and also did all the guest account trick / repaired permissions / repair ACLs. Nothing worked. Overwrote the Skype app with a former functioning version I have in an MacOS 10.5 system. Didn't work. Now I have to chat on the MacOS 10.5 computer. No good.
– 15 days ago or so: After realising that I no longer have my HP1515n printer (it ran out of inks and thrashed it. It costs more to refill than to buy a new one), I deleted the printer from the printers list in the System Prefs Pane.
– Last week: Acrobat (CS4) won't launch a PDF file and freezes. Spinning beach ball. Force quit and try opening the PDF file again. Freezes again. And again. And again. With that file and every other PDF.
Photoshop CS5 fails to open or crashes when attempting to open any jpg or tiff file. InDesign and Illustrator CS5 are frozen and had to force quit both.
Restart the iMac thinking it is just a "common" bad day and hoping everything will be alright after the restart, but nope.
Not only the CS5 stops working; MSOffice stops working too. Spinning beach ball. Begin to suspect of the deletion of the printer, however, I also deleted the same printer in the above mentioned 10.5 system and I'm not experiencing anything strange. Reinstalled the HP drivers but nothing remarkable happens.
Then, try to uninstall CS5, CS4, Office, etc. Try to reinstall Acrobat CS4 and the CS5 apps. Reinstall Office. Nothing. Just Outlook works.
Since I had to desperately meet deadlines, convinced a colleague to come over to the studio and -I know, I know- allowed me to install a copy of CS6. It seems to work fine, except for Acrobat, which randomly freezes/hangs/works and Photoshop, which works fine unless you want to open a layered file containing text layers or if you want to type text on a normal file, because it freezes as soon as the Text Tool is pressed in the toolbar, of course, spinning beach ball again.
Well, Illustrator CS6 sometimes shows a strange black thin frame overlaid on the interface but goes away by switching to another workspace and then back to the current. InDesign CS6 seems to be fine and making PDFs as expected. However, as I said before, it is pure luck if Acrobat accepts to open the file or even if it launches. Spinning beach ball when freezing/hanging.
As a method for eliminating possible culprits, did a clean up of the Suitcase Fusion database, removed duplicate and a few (less than 10) corrupted fonts.
Removed completely MSOffice reinstalled and updated. Nothing. Now I neither have MSoffice running.
I am no rookie but I can't even imagine what can cause such amount of misbehaviour, (kernel panics have something to do? malware? lack of system updates? MacHD is damaged?) so I'm thinking of a few scenarios:
Backing up my projects and user folder –anything else to backup? (In fact I've already done that)– and:
1. Do a clean install. Not sure if it will be best to completely erase the whole drive or if a standard reinstallation will be enough.
2. Take the machine to a Genius Bar to see if there's anything that can be done without major OS messes.
3. Erase the drive and go through the Mavericks upgrading (SL to Ln to MLn to Mavcks), although not sure if this upgrade is worth yet.
4. Replace HD for a brand new one and either step 1 or 3.
5. As a complement, I'm thinking of adding more RAM.
Well. It is really the first time I don't know what to do. I have work to do and would not want to face a week away from my main computer and since most of the files are CS5-6 and hence, can't move to my wife's iMac...
Apologies if this post feels too long, but I will truly appreciate any kind of input and advice on one of more of the issues mentioned in this post.
And if it fits best in any other forum, please also let me know.

I'm also not aware that this is specified somewhere. Probably one of those spurious wakeups as mentioned in the JLS etc.?

Whatever it turns out to be, the problems encountered here are due to a (common) bad practice: it is strongly recommended not only in Object.wait()'s Javadoc http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/Object.html#wait() to always use a "wakeup" condition combined with a loop. If you do that, your example code works even when synchronizing on the Thread object itself (if you think that's necessary). But from a quick experiment it seems that the Notifier thread object notifyAll()'s/interrupts(?) all waiters periodically on my machine, and it's probably advisable to just use a dedicated monitor object if there isn't some other obvious synchronization instance...
EDIT: Me dumb, I forgot that wait(4000)... just ignore the last sentence above. A Thread instance should be equally suited as a monitor as any other Object. I'm sorry if this caused confusion.

First you might want to describe what you are trying to achieve. In case you intend to change or validate the changed document, one common BADI to implement is BBP_DOC_CHANGE_BADI.

I have activated standard Appraisal Criteria/Groups (2-Dimensional)(0TM_IS02) Infoset and i loaded data into Staffing Assignments in Talent Management Info cube and Appraisals DSO.But when i am trying to display data,It is showing The data from the InfoProvider 0TM_IS02 involved could not be checked.Actually i need to execute report Calibration grid report,which is created on multiprovide Appraisal Criteria/Groups (2-Dimensional)(0TM_MP02).

We configure the cascading of goals at the criteria group level. There are separate BADIs for team goals and company goal if we want to cascade these goals separately to different criteria group. If we want the goals to be cascaded to a single criteria group, we can use the common BADI.
If I understand your question correctly, you want to give the manager a choice as to which criteria group they want to cascade the team goals to. There is no standard SAP way they can do it. This is defined at the configuration level and not at the process level.

Contextual menu won't come up with control click

I have a user with a one button mouse who can't bring up a contextual menu with control click any longer. When you control click, you get a new finder window or sometimes it brings up Fontbook instead of a contextual window!
it happens no matter who logs into machine. I have tried, thus far, repairing permissions and trashing the finder.plist under this one user. No effect.
I could not find anything when doing a search on the Knowledge Base, so am posting here. Has anyone seen this behavior in 10.4 yet?

Try removing the items in these folders:
"/Users/username/Library/Contextual Menu Items"
"/Library/Contextual Menu Items"
Log out/in or restart, if things return to normal you can then start putting items back one at a time until you find the offending item. One common bad actor is a contextual menu item from StuffIt.

MRP run: how to check the target quantity of Schedule Aggreement

Hello Gurus,
We have a requirement when running MRP, creating schedule lines automatically in Schedule Aggreement.
Currently, the MRP did NOT check the target quantity of Schedule Aggreement. But we need to check this, to make sure the schedule line quantity will not exceed the target quantity.
I check some note and the solution is use quota arrangement. but quota can be limit the maximum quantity per vendor, not per S.A.
Is there any way to fullfill this requirement?
Configuration?
Or any BAID/enhancement can be implemented?
Or where to do the modification?

This is the standard behavior: MRP does not check the target quantity.
If you want to develop your own code to do that, the only option that I see is MD_MODIFY_SOURCE. This BAdI allows you to define your own logic for the source determination during the MRP run.

MRP to consider Sched Agreement or Contract Qty limit

I have this master data:
Sched Agreement SA#1 - 100units Target Qty; validity is May 1 to Dec 31, 2014
Source List - SA#1 valid from May 1 to Dec 31, 2014
DepRequirements:
a) 50 units - May 5, 2014
b) 30 units - June 5, 2014
c) 20 units - July 5, 2014
d) 15 units - Aug 5, 2014
When I execute MRP for Sched Lines, all requirements a/b/c/d are assigned with Schedule Lines. But considering the maximum target of 100 units by the SA, I want MRP to just create Sched Lines for requriements a/b/c (total is 100 units)
Is this possible in MRP via standard settings, or only Badi can address this "target qty limits"?

MRP does not check the schedule agreement target quantity.
This is the system standar behavior and note 83343 explains it in detail.
A maximum quantity can be considered on the MRP run by means of the quota arrangement.
The following document provides this information and another common issues on source determination:

If you want to develop your own code to check the target quantity, the only option that I see is MD_MODIFY_SOURCE. This BAdI allows you to define your own logic for the source determination during the MRP run.

Interpreting Console

I have a situation with the first model iMac in that when I put it to sleep during the evening, it goes to sleep but sometime during the early AM, the next day, it shuts off. The computer is used often during the day but never shuts down while in use-most of the time. When off, it starts up without any problem and can be used all day or a good part of the day. And when it goes to sleep during periods of none use during the day only on very few times has it shut down. When I set it to not go to sleep but the screen shuts down, it doesn't shut down.
I constantly check the console but nothing in it says "shut down" and give the reason. So I cannot get any information from console records only because I don't understand most of it but I have the following excerpt which I know is long but if someone could check it out and see anything in it that would give a clue why the computer shuts down while in sleep mode or can lead me to site that I can get some information on how to decipher all of this-Thanks:

Is that the log following or before the unwanted shutdown? The log following (after rebooting) usually gives information on the nature of the previous shutdown.
In the log following the shutdown you should probably be seeing "shutdown cause= 1 (or 2)" for normal shutdowns. They can alternate. "shutdown cause= -110" is usually related to a power supply issue. (But not always, as you might see this after an SMU reset.) And do you see "improper shutdown"?)
Filter the system log for "shutdown."
These unexpected shutdowns might also be related to the extremely common bad capacitor issue for the logic board or the power supply. There are posts on this all over this forum. Have you looked inside to see the state of the caps? Look for bulging, leaking. The caps at the tops should be perfectly flat. You won't be able to see the caps in the power supply.
EDIT: I see you've already gone into this issue with an iSight, so you know what to look for.

Jumbled fonts in Address Book, Safari and Mail apps

The fonts become jumbled (just weird characters, where names in the Address book should be and in fine print on web pages and the To/From boxes in Mail) in these OS apps after the computer has been on and to fix it I have to restart or if that doesn't work, throw away the Cache folder and sometimes the Preferences folder in the Library on my HD
Is this a glitch in System X? I've had the same thing happen to my G5 at work.
What is the fix?

The usual fix is to get rid of bad fonts and clean your font caches (use Fontfinagler for caches, use google to find it). The most common bad fonts are Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic. Send me a screen shot if you want (click on my name for the address).

Lost Connection to Camera

I keep trying to share my movie from iMovie to my video camera. The connection is secure, but I get the message "iMovie lost its connection to the video camera. Please check the connections and try again"
I have encountered several problems with iMovie since I recently upgraded to Tiger. Any ideas whats going on?

• BAD FW-cable - or -
• Low free space on internal (start-up) hard disk
OR read my super long troubleshooting list (on Your own risk)
Capture/Import problems:
a) File-Vault is on - turn it off
b) don’t Daisy chain camcorder - external hard disk - Mac
(except for some Canon-Cameras)
c) Slow hard disk (fragmented: repair permissions, repair hard disk, use a faster hard disk)
d) Something is occupying the CPU/System, like other programs, Internet etc.
e) Bad RAM-chips
f) drop outs on the miniDV-tape - make a camera to camera copy on a tape which You have previous recorded with a time code (dummy recording).
g) FW-wire cable OK?
h) Break in the time-code on the miniDV tape (make a camera to camera copy on a tape which is prerecorded with nothing/anything so that the tape has a time-code from beginning to the end)
i) defective camera TRY IT ON ANOTHER MAC !
j) remove bookmarks in iMovie project
k) Do You have desktop pictures or screen-savers active? Try turning them off.
l) Updating - OS has to be a clean install - not an update eg from X.3.x to X.4.x (no good)
OS X.4.0-2 needs a clean install to work (I use X.3.9)
m) Updating QT and/or other updates (to 7 needs v6 to be cleaned out first)
QT v.7 needs a clean install to work (I use 6.5.2)
n) Have you tried the crazy fix:
Open GarageBand, play a few notes, close it and reopen iMovie. The camera should import fine now. (Sue/SDillini)
o) NEW (from Sue/SDillini):
Trash the Font Collections Folder.
These files are found:
/YourUserName/Library/FontCollections folder.
Drag the folder to the trash and launch iMovie. iMovie will create a new FontCollections folder containing the files it needs when it next opens.
p) or thrashing the com.apple.imovie.plist file (Rodney Brown2)
q) - Other programs interfering like Flip4Mac
r) - Third party or old plug-ins

This setting has to do with shooting a movie in one format, and using the camera to import as a different format. For instance, if you shoot HD footage and have i.Link conv on - the camera will send DV to the computer etc...
So, case in point: look for a setting on your camera that has to do with the video format and see if that helps.

MSI GE70 Apache Pro death pixels!!!

Hi I found on my 6 months old laptop a death pixel plus 2 gray pixels.. I try some fix for that but nothing happened.. I read MSI policy about that but in this is only saying for TFT technology.. But GE70 have LED technology so I want to know how much death or any others pixel I need have for repair under the warranty.. Thanks for reply :-)

I think the rule is the same, but you can check with MSI.
