Communicating to FieldPoint from HP-UX

Has anyone out there been able to communicate from HP-UX to FieldPoint modules? I have seen the technique of putting a program on the FP-2000 module that will talk TCP/IP. Is there any other solution?

Mike,
At the present time, the only way to communicate from an HP-UX machine directly to a FieldPoint Ethernet module would be to use a FP-20XX series module and use either the TCP VI's or the UDP VI's. For the FieldPoint Serial Network modules you may communicate using the Optomux command set as documented in the FP-1000/1001 Programmers Reference Manual. If you are using LabVIEW on HP-UX, you should be able to use the LabVIEW FieldPoint Optomux VI's downloadable from:

  • Using Fieldpoint from Labview RT on a PXI System

I have a PXI system with Labview RT (PXI 8186 controller with LVRT ver 7.1).
I wanted to connect a FP remote I/O system to this controller. The Fieldpoint system I have has a FP-1000 RS-232 Network module.
I was hoping to be able to connect the FP-1000 to the serial port of the PXI-8186, and use the standard Fieldpoint VIs to write/read data (as you would from a Windows-based Labview app).
It doesn't seem to be that easy, trying to download any code with a Fieldpoint VI down to my RT target gives an error ("failed to load shared library FPLVMgr.dll on RT target device"). Looking through MAX I see that Fieldpoint drivers are not loaded on the RT target, and there is no option to load them there either.
    So: Ho
w do I control my Fieldpoint units from my PXI System using Labview RT?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ravid

    Hi, Ravid.
Effectively, under LabVIEW RT, you cannot use the standard FieldPoint VIs to communicate to a FieldPoint module, since they are not supported. If you have a serial module, like the FP-1000 or FP-1001, you need to use Optomux commands to interface and communicate to it. You can find great examples on how to do the communication in the Example Finder of LabVIEW >> Hardware Input and Output >> FieldPoint >> Optomux >> and use any of the examples that use VISA to communicate to the modules. To run the examples, first target LabVIEW to your 8186 and open the example. Before running it, match the baud rate and address specified in your FP-1000 with the controls in the Front Panel. Also, verify that you have either an alias defined for COM1, or use AS
RL::INSTR1 for the VISA resource name. You will need to have VISA RT installed on your RT Target to be able to run this examples.
You can find the Optomux commands in LabVIEW under the Advanced FieldPoint palette. For more information on Optomux commands, you can take a look at the FP-1000/1001 Programmer Reference Manual
Let me know if you have further questions. I hope this helps!

    Hi,
Is there some way of getting the result from a DML-ing stored function from the EntityManager? I can use a native query and just select the function from dual if it doesn't do any DML but when it does, it is not permitted. I can't use getDelegate() to get the raw connection either :-/

  • Can't communicate with other hosts from primary domain.

Hi all, I add vsw0 as below:
    ldm add-vsw net-dev=e1000g0 primary-vsw0 primary
    ifconfig vsw0 plumb
    ifconfig e1000g0 down unplumb

    mv /etc/hostname.e1000g0 /etc/hostname.vsw0
    init 6
but now I can't communicate with other hosts from primary domain,if I plumb and up e1000g0 and down vsw0 ,everything is OK,what's wrong with it?Thanks.

This is greate!I replaced e1000g0 with vsw0 now.
Could ldm automatic update the ldm configuration parameters?I created a file for the virtual disk, the output of ldm list-bindings as below:
    ......................ignore.............................
    Vdisk: disk0 vol0@primary-vds0
    service: primary-vds0 @ primary
    ......................ignore.................................
but when I updated some other parameters such as vsw, vnet, the vol0 became:
    .................ignore.........................
    Vdisk: disk0 primary-vds0-vol0@primary-vds0
    service: primary-vds0
    .......................ignore........................................
and the same time the primary-vds0-vol0 link with /dev/zvol/rdsk/domdisk/dom1,so the guest domain couldn't get the boot disk,I had to update it manunally.
Did you have the same issue?

  • How can I reboot my FieldPoint from an embedded application?

How can I reboot my FieldPoint from an embedded application that is running on this FP.

    Hello.
I'm writing you about this question you made a long time ago...
Did you solve the problem? I have the same question! So please let me know if you found a solution.
I saw the answer which was given to you, but I doubt that the reboot command would work from an embedded application, because it asks for IP address and MAC, while it is on the machine where the project is running that I want to send the reboot command. Did you try it?
    Thanks for the help.

  • Error communicating Labview with Fieldpoint hardware

    Hi,
I run Labview in conjunction with the Fieldpoint hardware. Upon reinstalling the labview program after a computer crash, I am no longer able to re-establish the communication with the Fieldpoint hardware. It seems to be a driver problem but I am not able to pin point exactly the problem. This is the error message when the software "SHIME" was run:
Error 7 occurred at Open File+.vi: Open File.
    Possible reasons:
    LABVIW: file not found. Or
    NI-488: non-existent board.
I greatly appreciate any suggestions for trouble shooting.
    Sincerely,
    Trisna

    Hi Aaron,
thanks for the advice. In fact I was just trouble shooting the problem with an advisor/technician from National Instruments and he confirmed the same thing that there is no problem between the communication of the computer and Fieldpoint. It is more of the problem with the software itself. I am running a software called "SHIME" that stands for simulated human intestinal microbial ecosystem but I couldn't locate any open.vi or auto.vi file on the CD; you mentioned looking for something in the software.
I am communicating with the people who sold us the SHIME system and I appreciate your advice.
    Sincerely,
    Trisna

  • Not executed Commands from Testprograms written in Labview communicating over GPIB

    Hello
Sometimes I have the problem that the commands sent from testprograms written in Labview aren't executed from the devices
(for example a counter or a power supply).
An extension of the the wait time between Write and Read couldn't solve the problem (We use VISA-VIs or the Manufacturers-VIs).
First workaround is to send the command again.
Somebody else ever had the same problems to deal with? What did you do?
    Many thanks
    Best Regards
    Silvio

Usually stuff like this is caused by incomplete understanding of communications using the GPIB bus (either by the programmer OR by the supplier of the drivers - the latter reason being why I almost always write my own drivers).
Many times, an instrument fails to respond in what we considre a "timely" manner - a prime example is an instrument that takes several seconds to complete a measurement.  Many times, instruments don't queue commands, so if you send a command to an instrument while it is still processing a previous command, it won't be aware of the command you just sent, and you will get a timeout.  In this case, it's best to make the VISA timeout something like 5000 ms and - if your instrument accepts the command - use *OPC? to turn your command into a query.  This way, your application always waits for a response - usually a "1" - from the instrument being commanded before sending the next command.

  • Several emails per day - from blackberry communicating with server?? Need to remove emails.

    Afternoon,
Each day my outlook email recieves about 6 - 9 emails; of the below information, with an attached 'DAT File' that needs to be opened by selecting a program.
Information in the main body of the email
'this message is used to carry data between Blackberry handheld and an associated server. Please do not delete, move or respond to this message - it will be processed by the server.'
These emails are becoming annoying as I have lots of important work emails to deal with.
Does anyone know how to stop these emails without effecting how the blackberry works with the pc?
    Assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Reason : You have installed Desktop Manager using the 'Desktop Redirector' option.
Step 1: If you're not using Redirector, you should uninstall Desktop Manager and then reinstall it using the BlackBerry Internet Service option.
Step 2: On your device, go to: Options > Advanced > Service Book, and delete all service books for [Desktop]

  • Communicating between LabVIEW and Basic Stamp 2.0

    Hello,
We are trying to control the movement of a Parallax Boe-Bot (robot with
Board of Education) via LabView programming.  The BOE operates on
Basic Stamp programming to control the pulse width sent to two servo
    motors.
Is there a way to establish communication between LabVIEW and Basic
Stamp 2.0?   We need to send commands from LabVIEW to the
Basic Stamp to control the pulse width and therefore the rotation of
the two servo motors.  We also need to send a signal from an
accelerometer based on the robot to the LabVIEW ADC.
The ultimate goal is to do this with wireless communication, but for
right now we are simply trying to figure out any way to send the data
between LabVIEW and the Basic Stamp.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
You can communicate with a BASIC Stamp microcontroller over GPIB using VISA.  To see some LabVIEW example code, just search for GPIB in the NI Example Finder (Help>>Find Examples). This will show you the basics of GPIB communication in LabVIEW.  I also found this link by searching the NI discussion forums for "basic stamp"
    http://www.parallax.com/html_pages/downloads/software/software_basic_stamp.asp
Here you can download an example using LabVIEW 7.0 or higher to communicate with a BASIC Stamp 2.
I hope this is helpful!  Let us know if you have further questions.

  • How can I communicate with other applications from my Java application?

    Hello,
I need help about how can i communicate with other application(say textpad.exe/wordpad.exe/MS word.exe) from my Java program.
More precisely, I need to know how i can get the current position of the cursor whether it is in any .txt/.doc files, then I may write some text in my java application and click a button and then my program will append the line(string) in that position of the file which is running under another appliction(Notepade.exe/MSword.exe).
    Please provide me some help.

I may be wrong (and anyone, please correct me if so), but Java may not be the best tool for something such as this. I envision that you'd have to make some OS calls such as calls to the user32.dll, and while this can be done through the JNI, you'd still have to have a C or C++ program doing the dirty work.

  • Fpga: Communicating between fpga and third party program running on pc

I am using a C-Rio to control a planar robotic joystick. The goal is to use the joystick as a force feedback controller for a computer game running on a pc.
My program as is for now runs a program on the fpga to read the encoder values and run the pwm for the motors. An RT program reads those values and performs the control as well as it calculates the fwd and inverse kinematics of the robot.
What I would like to do now is to pass the x-y values of the joystick on a third program (computer game) that runs on a PC.Currently  the game runs on LabVIEW but I would the system to be combatible with other programs written in different programming languages. I have been told that the best way of doing this is to setup a server. Is this the only/best way of doing this?
I would like to know what is the best way to communicate between a program running on a pc and a program running on the fpga for this type of application. What is the best way to pass along information from fpga to third party app running on pc and vice versa?
I am sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't  find a relevant thread. Thank you for reading this!
    Ares

If you need every command to make it, then you should use TCP.  I would recommend taking a look at the STM library that is floating around somewhere on the LabVIEW Tools Network.

  • Temperature controller gives wrong powerup configuration after communicating with RS-232

    Hello,
I was working with a Lakeshore 330 Programmable temperature controller using the LabVIEW drivers downloaded from NI driver site. My aim was to implement a continous RS232 data acquisition. I initially thought of using the similar code to the one used in another transducer (a pressure transducer which acquires data from RS232 continously). Unfortunately, I kept this vi in the same vi as the I am developing. While executing the vi, I got error from the pressure transducer, possible because both transducers are trying to communicate using same serial port. After that, my Lakeshore 330 temperature controller always power up in wrong configuration. I cannot switch input channels. Also, in the temperature it measures, the two digits after the decimal is missing. For instance, instead of 21.43 it is just showing 21.
Anyone know what went wrong here? I restarted the Lakeshore several times, still no change. Is it possible the wrong write command to the lakeshore somehow messed the setting? Is it possible to get back to the original factory setting. I am getting desperate.
I deeply appreciate any help and suggestions.
    Thank you in advance
    Zch
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It really doesn't sound like a LabVIEW problem but a user error.
All I can suggest is that you read the manual for the Lakeshore controller.  They are either going to have some steps that you can use to reconfigure it using front panel controls, or perhaps their own software to help configure it.  Also look at whatever protocol they are using for serial communication.  Comparing that to whatever you were trying to do with the pressure device might tell you how you might have accidentally changed the Lakeshore controllers configuration when you got their code and serial ports all mixed up.

  • GPIB not communicating with my magtrol instruments

    Hello,
I've installed my PCI-GPIB on a system running windows xp, it was on a system running windows 98 and worked correctly. I am using the card to capture data from a Magtrol Dynomometer Controller. I've run the software and driver updates from NI website. Also, when I am in the MAX software and communicate with my instrument manually I can read correctly from the instrument. What is happening is that when I try to write and read from the magtrol controller the data stream is not ending(getting the cr-lf?). In the magtrol installation instructions it says:" GETTINGSTARTED
    1. From the Windows taskbar, click Start, then point to Settings and click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click System. This will bring up the System
    Properties dialog box.
    3. Click the Device Manager tab.
    4. Using the right mouse button, click (right-click) National Instruments GPIB Interfaces.
    5. Click Properties.
    6. Click the Device Templates tab. See Figure 24 System Properties & GPIB Interfaces
    Properties.
    7. Scroll down Device Name list until DEV9 is reached.
    8. Click DEV9.
    9. Set DEV attributes to the following:
    a. Under Termination Methods, select the Terminate Read on EOS check box.
    b. Change EOS Byte to 10.
    c. Select the Readdress check box."
The problem is when I right-click on National Instruments GPIB interfaces I get a dialog box with a tab that says "General" and an empty page. I think my devices are probably not setup correctly because I haven't followed the magtrol instructions (this worked on the windows 98 setup). I am not sure how to fix this, Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jennifer

    Jennifer,
Thanks for your question regarding configuring the GPIB termination settings. Depending upon which version of the NI 488.2 driver that you have installed, the method for changing these settings may be different. However, after installing the NI 488.2 driver you should be able to change the termination settings of your NI GPIB device in the Measurement and Automation Exploer. This utillity should be loacted in Programs>>National Instruments folder from the start button. After expanding the devices and interfaces folder in MAX you can right-click on the PCI-GPIB and a configuration window will appear where you can change the settings that you are refering to. A screenshot of this window is attached below.

  • Communicating to RSLinx OPC Server

I am using Lookout ver 3.8.16 and need to communicate to the Allen-Bradley
Logix 5550 PLC using OPC client object talking to RSLinx. You can call me
    at 504-8967800 ext.243

    Hello Burton,
Soon NI will be making available a KnowledgeBase article on this topic.
For now, here's what you need to do:
Make sure you have the OEM or Full version of RSLinx V2.1. In RSLinx, once
you've setup your PLC, right-click on your PLC icon and select 'Configure
    New DDE/OPC Topic'.
This will add a new access path for your server. For example, the access
path is say, THERE so when you define the access path in Lookout you have
to use the following syntax: [Access Path]Item. In this case it would be
[THERE]N7:0 to access the register N7:0.
Once this is defined you should be able to access all the available registers
on you PLC from any OPC Client.
For Lookout 3.8, you will have to define the Access Path in the 'Description'
field of the Database. You will
have to manually type the access path. The
format for this is: ~~[Topic name] item. For the example above, use ~~[THERE]N7:0.
Also, make sure you change the Cache Update Rate to at least 2ms to avoid
    hogging the CPU.
If you're having troubling configuring this, call NI's Support at 512.683.0100.
