Garbage characters in begining of Mac saved file

I'm new to the Mac environment and Dreamweaver so please
excuse me if this is a simple issue to solve. I've been having
issues with Dreamweaver inserting garbage characters in the
beginning of a file created and saved. In IE6 and 7, the pages do
not format correctly due to these garbage characters. When I save a
new file in Dreamweaver and copy it over to a PC, the garbage
characters show up in any editor . Is there a setting in
Dreamweaver to correct this issue?
Below is the saved code..notice the garbage in front of the
Ôªø@charset "UTF-8";
/* CSS Document */
body{ margin: 0; padding: 0;font-family: "Lucida Grande",
Lucida, Verdana, sans-serif; height: 100%; font-size: 12px;
background-image: url(../images/cmt_talentapp_bg.jpg);
background-repeat: no-repeat;}
a { text-decoration: none; color: #109cd9; }
a.hover { text-decoration: underline; }
#pageContainer { width: 945px; height: auto; border: 0px
solid green; float: left; padding-left: 5px; padding-top: 0px;
margin-top: 0px;}
#headerContainer { padding: 0 10px 0 10px; width: 920px;
height: 100px; border: 1px red solid; float: left; }
#contentArea { width: 710px; padding: 20px 0 30px 0; border:
1px red solid; float: left; height: auto; }

It's just a shoot in the dark. Deending on your settings, DW
may insert a
BOM:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_Order_Mark
At the beginning of UTF-8 encoded files.
You may check your settings and try to change them to suit
your needs, then
see if the problem goes away.

  • Acrobat XI Pro for Mac saved file not seen in a AFP NAS

    After I save a document through Acrobat XI Pro to NAS in Mac OS 10.8, I can't see the document in that directory by Finder through AFP-protocol , however I can see it through SAMBA-protocol. This never happened before, only after I saved the file through the newly installed Acrobat 11 Pro.

    I was suddenly having the same problem in Acrobat XI Pro for Windows (recently upgraded to CC from Acrobat X).  For the past while I've sometimes had to use the "insert from file" tool to get a page added from another file.  I couldn't figure out why dragging sometimes would no longer work, but was too busy to go looking for a solution until tonight.
    The solution was given by JoshTatum24 above. Switch from a scrolling page display to single page display.  Now I can drag pages between documents again.  THANK YOU Josh!
    Oh, and CORREAdmin,  it does not matter whether the hand or arrow selection tool is active, my mouse pointer is always an arrow when positioned in the page thumbnails panel.  Switching selection tools does not make a difference in dragging, but switching between scrolling and single page display definitely DOES make the difference.

  • Mac saving files to external hard drive.

    I was trying to save some files from my mac to an external hard drive. When I attempted to save them the computer said that there was not enough room on the drive (which is insane because theres plenty of memory open and I was trying to save a very small word document). I googled the problem and I saw some thing saying that it may be a problem concerning a NATF? I discovered that the external hard drive was formatted as NATF. Whats the deal?

    Hi Sean,
    NTFS is indeed the culprit here.
    Mac OSX can read from NTFS Hds but cannot write to them.
    For that you would need third-party helper tools like NTFS-3G (free) or the commercial ones Paragon NTFS for Mac or Tuxera NTFS for Mac.
    If you use this EHD solely with your Mac you might want to consider reformating it to use the Mac OS Extended file system.
    (Be aware though, that this would delete everything that is on the EHD right now !)

    This characters is making file as invalid.
    But if I open the origional file then it is not showing the characters.
    Could u please help me how to remove this garbage characters frm XML file beginning.
    Thanks in advance.

    Check this SAP Note: https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/821267
    From the above SAP Note:
    16. File Encoding
    XML Files
    Important: Even if you configure a File Encoding in the File Adapter channel, the File Adapter will not
    -write the XML header to reflect the changed encoding, so you will probably see an XML parsing error later
    during the processing of the message if you specify an encoding.

  • How to get a gif file to loop in PE11 with MAC 10.6.8? 480x320x72 pix/in. saved layers for web, check animate,preview plays fine but saved file doesnt

    can't figure out why the gif file won't loop. Set up 5 photo frames 480x320pixels x 72pix/in in PE11, creating a layer for each. Each layer visible. Saved for web. Checked animate. The preview plays fine. But when I save the file and then click on the saved file to play, it re-opens the layers instead of playing the loop. The only SAVE option that shows up is "IMAGES ONLY"
    Using photoshop elements 11 on MAC 10.6.8. Either I'm setting this up wrong or is there a hidden setting I need to change?

    Thanks for the thought, Barbara B. Not sure if this counts, but emailed the file to myself [different email account, same computer] but it would not play as an email attachment. Any suggestions for a web upload where I can test your suggestion? Seems like there should be a different save option other than IMAGES ONLY but that is the only option I'm given.

  • Garbage characters in excel file opened by jsp

              I am storing an excel file as blob in database. While retrieving
              from database when I open in the jsp page , it shows a lot of garbage characters
              and all formatting is lost. I am using content type "application/vnd.ms-excel".
              I am also setting correct mime type in web.xml as application/excel. It is weblogic
              6.1 sp2 with oracle 8.1.6. the pdf and word docs are working well. Please help
              soon.
              Thanks

    Download the Open G Toolkit from www.openg.org. There is a VI called Quit Application.vi that works great. I have used it with the very stupid Brooks 0154 SmartDDE Controller program to reset the application.
    Be sure to save the document and close the DDE communication first.

  • Router reports garbage characters for Mac's DHCP client hostname

    I've got a Linksys wifi router giving nice wireless access to my 17" powerbook (OSX 10.3.9). But when I look at the DHCP active IP table, this one (and another Mac I have on the network) both show up with garbage characters on the "client hostname" even though I have the "DHCP client Id" field filled in in the Network, TCP/IP system preference pane. How do I get the router to see my client's name?
    Mike

    Might help if you told us what the "garbage" was. It
    might help indentify what it relates to because it's
    highly unlikely to be truly random. It's more likely
    to be based on the client's MAC address.
    ok. It is, exactly: ¸#Єª
    In any case, DHCP client ID and hostname are not
    related, so you might be out of luck depending on
    what the Linksys is doing.
    ah! Sorry - I thought that's what it wanted. So, where on my machine do I set the client hostname? Where does a router grab this info from? I've got a PC connected to this thing which does report its name correctly.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    I do not recommend reformatting your harddrive and reloading your software.  This is a Windows thing. On an older mac it may be difficult to find all your software again.
    Best to have greater than 2gig of free space.  Many posters to these forums state that you need much more free space: 5 gig to 10 gig or 10 percent of you hd size.

    Be careful when deleting files. A lot of people have trashed their system when deleting things. Place things in trash. Reboot & run your applications. Empty trash.
    Go after large files that you have created & know what they are.  Do not delete small files that are in a folder you do not know what the folder is for. Anything that is less than a megabyte is a small file these days.

    Buy an external firewire harddrive.
    For a PPC computer, I recommend a firewire drive.
    Has everything interface:
    FireWire 800/400 + USB2, + eSATA 'Quad Interface'
    save a little money interface:
    FireWire 400 + USB 2.0
    This web page lists both external harddrive types. You may need to scroll to the right to see both.

  • Saving files in Photoshop CC Mac

    I upgraded to Photshop CC Mac and I'm having a problem saving files.
    My last version was PS5 and when I saved a file I could go to the drop down tab, there would be the name of my folder, click the folder and click one a file with a similar name and make my adjustments.
    Example: Folder 1>File name 1234 Red click on that file and change the name to 1234 Blue.
    Now I can't see the Folder and I have to manually enter the name of the product because I can't see the folder contents.
    Very time consuming.
    Any ideas?

    Could you please post a screenshot to illustrate the issue?
    Is there a field with a downward triangle next to the name entry field?

  • Help. Photoshop CC14 on Mac 5k (2014) running Yosemite 10.10.1. Photoshop stops responding when I'm opening files, saving files or creating new ones. Is anyone suffering the same problem? Does anyone have an answer?

    Help. Photoshop CC14 on Mac 5k (2014) running Yosemite 10.10.1. Photoshop stops responding when I'm opening files, saving files or creating new ones. Is anyone suffering the same problem? Does anyone have an answer?

    First, go install the MacOS 10.10 updates - you should be on 10.10.2.
    I haven't heard of Photoshop not responding during opens and saves.  Does it stop responding while the open/save dialogs are visible, or while Photoshop is actually reading or writing files?
    10.10.1 did fix a crash in the open/save dialogs, but 10.10.2 still has some odd issues (mostly program errors coming from the OS code) in the open/save dialogs.

  • A strange thing about saving files in Mac OS X

    I've noticed a strange thing about saving files in Mac OS X.
    In the save dialog, you click a folder to save into that folder.
    Well, if you accidentally click a file instead of a folder, the name of the document you're saving is changed to the name of that file! Then you have to retype the name, or cancel out of the process and start over.
    I don't see why you would want to change the name of the file you're saving to the name of a file that already exists, unless you want to overwrite the existing file (unlikely), but maybe there's a reason for this I'm overlooking.

    The Mac OS didn't used to do that. There must have been a lot of requests for it though. Especially from Windows switchers I would imagine, since you've always been able to do that in Windows.
    Sometimes I like being able to pick up the a name I do want to replace right from the Save dialogue. Most of the time though, I think it's a dangerous option. I don't know if there's a way to turn that behavior off.

  • Why some pdf file can't open or have garbage characters?

    Sometimes ,when i open a pdf file ,i find it can't be open or opened as blank,or opened as garbage characters.
    i want to konw the reason.
    later, i search some information by internet,someone tell me it is caused by the pdf standard,for example pdf/a or pdf/x,
    because the failed pdf can't conform to the pdf/a or pdf/x.
    and someone tell me the reason is the code,and so on.
    nowadays,i also find the real reason.
    who can give me some help?
    Thank you!

  • Saving files over 31 characters long...

    to a Windows 2003 server. Everything works great as long as I'm under 31 characters.
    I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Is there a default setting on either the server or the Mac to allow for this to happen?

    Last, when looking at files on the server while using my mac, all file names over 31 characters are truncated to an 8.3 format. This does not happen if looking at the server from a PC.
    All files on a Windows computer have an 8.3 name, along with their long name. You just don't normally see them anymore. If you write a file with the name Movies in 2012.doc to your PC or Windows server, that will be its long name, but it will also get a short name of MOVIES~1.DOC. You should be able to verify that by opening a DOS Command line box and do a file listing.
    The 31 character name limit was a requirement of OS 9 and earlier. That went away with OS X, though it took a while for apps to catch up. As an example, Word X for Mac still limited you to 31 characters. It wasn't until the 2004 version that MS finally broke that barrier. That was a fault in Word X still following old rules, not OS X's. Something MS probably did intentionally as a cross-over step so users of OS X and Office X weren't sending unreadable file names to those still using OS 9.
    Anyway, I'm certain the issue it at the server. It is truncating the names based on an obsolete naming rule. Whether or not your IT group can change it without upgrading the server to more current software is something I can't answer.

  • ZipOutputStream appends characters to beginning of zipped file?

    Hi and thanks in advance for any help!
    I am trying to zip Excel files using ZipOutputStream class. I can open the Excel files fine before I zip. Then I run my program to zip. It seems to work. I use WinZip to unzip and when I try and open unzipped file in Excel, Excel says it does not recognize format. Looking at unzipped file in text editor, about 15 wierd characters and nulls are now appended to the beginning of my Excel file that are not in the original. If I delete them in the text editor, Excel can open.
    Here is my zip code:
    ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    ZipOutputStream zos = new ZipOutputStream(baos);
    ArrayList fileNames = new ArrayList();
    fileNames.add ("91PSAG0Jak.csv");
    fileNames.add ("91I9F60K62.csv");
    // Compress the files
    for (int i=0; i<2; i++) {
    String filename = String.valueOf(fileNames.get(i));
    byte[] file = DatabaseUtilities.downloadFile("pdfstoragedir", filename);
    // Add ZIP entry to output stream.
    zos.putNextEntry(new ZipEntry(filename));
    ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream (zos);
    oos.writeObject(file);
    oos.flush();
    // Complete the entry
    zos.closeEntry();
    //Complete the ZIP file
    zos.close();
    byte[] zipFile = baos.toByteArray();
    DatabaseUtilities.uploadFile("pdfstoragedir", "zipOutput.zip", zipFile);
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream("C:\\zipOutput.zip");
    BufferedOutputStream bos = new BufferedOutputStream(fos);
    bos.write(zipFile, 0, zipFile.length);

    Thanks, I got it I think, I can write my byte[] directly to the zipOutputStream:
    ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    ZipOutputStream zos = new ZipOutputStream(baos);
    ArrayList fileNames = new ArrayList();
    fileNames.add ("8aCeOH0Fba.zip");
    fileNames.add ("8da6S40H4e.zip");
    // Compress the files
    for (int i=0; i<2; i++) {
    String filename = String.valueOf(fileNames.get(i));
    byte[] file = DatabaseUtilities.downloadFile("pdfstoragedir", filename);
    // Add ZIP entry to output stream.
    zos.putNextEntry(new ZipEntry(filename));
    zos.write(file);
    // Complete the entry
    zos.closeEntry();
    //Complete the ZIP file
    zos.close();
    byte[] zipFile = baos.toByteArray();
    DatabaseUtilities.uploadFile("pdfstoragedir", "zipOutput.zip", zipFile);
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream("C:\\zipOutput.zip");
    BufferedOutputStream bos = new BufferedOutputStream(fos);
    bos.write(zipFile, 0, zipFile.length);
