Compare Fetched Value before Update

Hi,
I have a Before Header process that fetches values into page items on a form. A user may update any of the fields that have been fetched into the form. Currently, I am fetching the values into both a HIDDEN field and a TEXT field. Before I allow an update, I compare the HIDDEN value to the value in the form, and if it has changed then I allow the update.
Is there another way to store the fetched value, other than in a HIDDEN field? I am nearing the 100 item limit on a page, and want to remove the HIDDEN fields if there is another option.
Any suggestions, or references to examples is greattly appreciated!!!!
Keisha

As a matter of style, I would choose an Apex collection here. (I prefer application items to generally stay as things that are not page specific.)
Another thought...can you make just one hidden item that is a Y or N flag, like Pn_CHANGED. Default and set it to 'N' on fetch of the data. Then on all your page items, define an onchange event that sets the flag to Y:
$s("Pn_CHANGED","Y");I admit I haven't tried this but I suspect it should work.
The only downside that I can think of is that if the user changes an item to a new value but then changes it back again (so it's back to original) then this flag will still be set to "Y".
I assume you are using this to prompt the user if they try to leave with unsaved changes or something like that? I could see where this might be OK though since various applications do prompt the user once they touched something (even if it was changed back again). But I guess it depends on your specific need.

  • Ensure List/Menu populate my update form with the correct data before update

    Hello,
    Please how do I ensure my update form is populated with the correct data before update?
    On my update page I have text fields and select fields (dynamic list/menu). When I open my profile page to make updates, I see the field well positioned in the text fields but in the select list/menu fields, I see "Select from list" instead of the value that was initiated selected
    Correct Values before update
    Wrong values during update
    As you can see from the images below, when I open the update page, the list automatically populate the select fields with the last values in the list instead of the Initial values that where selected by the user before the update.
    Can anyone please review and let me know where I have gone wrong.
    Thank you
    Mike

    Hello All,
    Once more thank you. I have sorted the issue out.
    I observed that I was selecting the wrong field. I selected the field matching the record set of the select instead of the field matching the record set of the table I am working as seen on the image belew
    I was selecting this - This is the record set of the table that hold values for the city select list
    Instead of this. This is the record set of the table behind the form I am working on
    My issue is now re-solved.

  • How to compare value before and after

    hi,
    one of the queried Values is the number of defective frames.Here, this value is compared with a previously sampled value
    If now (after 10 s) this value is bigger than previous one ,then It saves new value otherwise loop will be continue.If again after (10s) the new value is bigger than  previous  new value then again saves this new point.how can i comapre value before and after?thanks.

    Do you know what a shift register is? It preserves a value from one loop iteration to the next. Please read the LabVIEW Help on shift registers. There's is also a simple example that ships with LabVIEW that will give you the basic idea (Help -> Find Examples).
    You can also use a Feedback Node in lieu of a shift register. Same concept, different implementation.

  • How to compare the value of a cell before changing and after changing.

    Hey there,
    Now I want to implement a JTable. And the requirement is that users can edit a cell in the Table only once. I think there are two possible ways. One is that after user edited a cell, I will set this cell read only. Another way is to compare the vaule before and after the changing. If it is different, then write back the previous value.
    But I did not know how to implement in Java. Can anybody help me?
    Thanks alot!

    inevitably, you will have to save a before copy of
    the data, what this many times amounts to is that you
    will need to have 2 identical data structures before
    you start or some type of locking mechanism for each
    piece of data.Why is this inevitable? I don't see it as inevitable at all. In fact, it's quite simple to implement a TableModel that returns false when isEditable(int, int) is invoked for any cell that has already had setValueAt(Object, int, int) inovked on it, for example. Depending on the requirements and implementation a different methodology may be needed for determining when the edit has taken place, such as a custom editor that notifies the TableModel when stopCellEditing() is invoked. Heck, overriding editingStopped() in JTable to do it might even work.
    So, create a TableModel that returns isEditabe(int, int) as true only if the cell hasn't been edited yet. The only problem to solve from there is how you know when it's been edited. I've already given you a few leads on that, it's not particularly hard but depending on your exact implementation it may require different solutions.

  • BEFORE UPDATE Trigger

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a solution to find out which columns are set in the update-statement inside a before update trigger. Can someone give me a hint?!
    What I want to do:
    I want to ensure that an update-statement for a special table always include attribute "XXX". To declare this attribute as "not null" is useless, because it is set correctly at insert. To compare the new value against the old value in a before update trigger isn't possible because the new value can be the same as the old value.
    I'm using Oracle 8i.

    There is no need to use two triggers and a temporary table where a simple insert from the before trigger will do the job.
    You can just insert the :old.column values straigth into a history table within the before update trigger though I would prefer to use an after update trigger. Nevertheless, both the insert into history and the update will be part of one transaction so the two action will commit or rollback together:
    UT1 > create or replace trigger marktest_bu
    2 before update on marktest
    3 for each row
    4 begin
    5 insert into marktest_hist
    6 values (:old.fld1, :old.fld2, :old.fld3, :old.fld4);
    7 end;
    8 /
    Trigger created.
    UT1 > select * from marktest_hist;
    no rows selected
    UT1 > update marktest set fld1 = 'trigtest2'
    2 where fld1 = 'trigtest';
    1 row updated.
    UT1 > select * from marktest_hist;
    FLD1 FLD2 FLD3 FLD4
    trigtest 9 28-MAY-04 trigtest

  • How to find colums in CLOB variable and get this colums value to update col

    Question
    How to find colums in CLOB variable and get this colums value to update colum of oracle database table
    How my work will go
    Step-1 - I am creating XML FIle which is based on code that we discused before-
    Its developing xml file with data in <...inputelement> as u can see in my xml but in <..output> Element of xml its just have all column for exampe <itemoutput>
    <FLD NM = "ABC"> 0 </FLD>
    <FLD NM = "XYZ:> </FLD> --- for varchar2
    </itemoutput>
    In 1st stage i am just generating <..INPUT> with its colums and real value from database and <..output> elements will go zero value but with colums name.
    Note. I create temp table will all COLUMN which u can see in both in <..ITEMINPUT> and <..ITEMOUTPUT>
    Step2.. After Generaing my xml i want to convert my xml data into CLOB not in a file. so clob will go to the VENDOR
    STEP3.
    I will Recieved again xml data in CLOB from the vendo in <.OUTPUT> ELEMents
    for example
    I send this format
    <itemoutput>
    <FLD NM = "ABC"> 0 </FLD>
    <FLD NM = "XYZ:> </FLD> --- for varchar2
    </itemoutput>
    And i will receive it
    <itemoutput>
    <FLD NM = "ABC VALUE"> 2 </FLD>
    <FLD NM = "XYZ TYPE:> SUV</FLD> --- for varchar2
    </itemoutput>
    So will take this output valu from xml clob and will update my staging table .
    Which have the same colum name as its look in xml clob.
    Step- 4. I will take this value from staging table and update my original oracle database table. which i send you before.
    But u leave this step becaue you dont know the staging table colum maping with original table.
    I think now you understand
    Please feed back
    monriz

    here is my xml..
    I want to extract <..output> elements which enclosed with " " and its values from this xml file. please any body have any idea. please tell me
    Thanks

  • Service tax value required updating while posting GR in MIGO transaction

    Dear Friends,
    We have a following scenario where service tax value required updating while posting Goods Receipt MIGO transaction.
    1. Purchase Order created for first line item where Qty. 1 and Net Rate Rs.1000/- so total Gross value will be Rs.1000/- example Vendor XYZ
    2. Freight condition type maintained for the first line item for Rs.500/- and assigned to Transportation vendor ABC.
    3. When Goods Receipt Posted for the Material against PO first line item, the material value updates Rs.1500/- (Material value as
        per PO + Freight Charges)
    4.  After posting GR while making Invoice verification through MIRO transaction against the PO GR/IR clearance will be done for
        Material vendor XYZ. For transportation Vendor ABC Planned delivery cost indicator will be select and since service tax is
        applicable Service tax code will also select.
    Here the values of Service tax if the Material available in Stock it will be inventories. If stock consumed before making the Invoice verification for Transportation vendor ABC, then the Service tax values update to PRD account.
    We know that in PO, tax code can be select for first line item (Raw Material) Vendor XYZ and if transportation charge condition type maintained for same first line item and assigned to Vendor ABC and there is no provision to maintain Service tax. So the service tax will get inventories while posting Invoice Verification for the transportation vendor.
    We want the values of Service tax to update while posting Goods Receipt in MIGO transaction.
    Thanks & regards
    Dhanu

    hi,
    Please note at the time of MIGO Servecie tax value does not appear, it will appear at the tiem of Invoice only.

  • How to refresh list item values before report is run?

    We have two SELECT LIST items (drop boxes) on our report. One SELECT LIST has values of "World Region" (e.g. NORTH AMERICA, SOUTH AMERICA, EUROPE, ASIA)
    the other SELECT LIST has values of "Subregion" (e.g. NORTHERN EUROPE, SOUTHERN EUROPE, SOUTHEAST ASIA etc...)
    The values in the Subregion list are dependent on the value that is chosen from the "World Region" List. Can someone tell up how to update the values in the Subregion list BEFORE we submit the page? We can get these values to update (via sql query) when the page is submitted but that is only happening after the report gets run- which is not what we want. We want the user to select a Region from one SELECT LIST and then see all the qualifying Subregions for that Region in the Subregion SELECT LIST. Only after both Region and Subregion have been selected do we want to run the report. Thank for any help on this.

    hey john--
    john) things like Scott's reference to "The name of the LOV Item". What does this really mean?
    raj) in htmldb there's a concept of items at the page and at the app level. page level items have ui component associated with them. in scott's explanation above, he's talking about using a page-level item with a "Display as" type of "select list w/submit" for your first select list. in that case, he's suggesting you have one select list item drive the values of another. when the self-submitting select list submits the page, it sets an htmldb built-in variable called :REQUEST to the name of the self-submitting select list item. in your follow-up post's example, that'd be "REGION_LIST". scott was explaining how you could control the functionality on your page by adding conditions to things like...
    :REQUEST = 'REGION_LIST'
    ...or using declarative Condition options like "Request = Expression 1" and then putting the string "REGION_LIST" in that Expression1 field. so in your case, you have a report region that you don't want displayed until the user's done selecting from your Subregion list. an easy way to handle that would be to add a hidden item (where "Display as" is set to "Hidden") to your page, for example :P1_LAST_REQUEST, to store the last value of :REQUEST. put a Computation on your page that populates :P1_LAST_REQUEST with :REQUEST each time the page is submitted. then put a Condition on your report region that makes it only render when :P1_LAST_REQUEST != 'REGION_LIST'. so this way your users can select a Region and have the page submit itself. the page will then redraw with the values of subregion list correctly populated (you'd presumably use :REGION_LIST in your subregion LOV query to achieve the filtered values) w/o your report region displayed. the user would then select a correct subregion and click some sort of "run my report" button. this time when the page redraws, :P1_LAST_REQUEST would be set so something other than "REGION_LIST" (it'd be set to whatever you named your "run my report button") and so your report region would display as desired.
    hope this helps,
    raj

  • Before Update Trigger has mutating problem

    I'm getting a mutating problem with this updating trigger. I'm not sure how to deal with it. Here is my code:

    any help appreciated
    adam

    I guess I couldve done that, but was using design editor and didn't know how to put a unique constraint in. Is the problem only because I'm referencing the :old.sample_ID, or the :new values as well? If it's just the :old value I could write a before update statement trigger to place the sample_id into a package varaible and then call that variable up in the row level trigger.... i've tried this, but don't know how to pull the sample_id value i need in the before statement trigger... i'll supply the code i've done so far...

  • How to count the number of Rows to be Updated before Update takes place..

    Hi all,
    I have a requirement, where i have to count the number of rows to be updated before updating it. SQL%ROWCOUNT gives the no. of rows updated ( after update takes place). How do i get to know the count of no. of rows to be updated/inserted/ deleted. I was looking for a simple solution, as above SQL%Rowcount. But i couldn't find any. I can use a Function and Return the value which will give me number of rows to be updated, But is there any Simple Logic other than this.. or any count function. Your Help is Appreciated. Thanks!

    If you really want to do this (I have no clue why you would need it), then you can piggy back on any existing pessimistic locking you may already have in place.
    However, it would require two loops through the records of which you want to know the count before you update, and a second pass to update them.
    I would really re-think the need for this, though.

  • Function Module does not fetch value

    Hi All,
    I am using the fm RV_PRICE_PRINT_HEAD to fetch condition records. When I run this fm in SE37 for a particular document(vbeln) number, the values are fetched correctly into the internal tables TKOMV and TKOMVD.
    The same fm does not fetch values when I run for second time for the same document(vbeln). This means :
    1) I will go to SE37, type RV_PRICE_PRINT_HEAD, supply the export parameters in COMM_HEAD_I, execute it and obtain the condition records (Till this time absolutely fine)
    2) Now, press Back (F3), Let the export parameters in "COMM_HEAD_I" will remain same. Just press Execute (F8). Then condition values are not fetched.
    Could any body help in this regard...
    Thanks
    Thimmappa Hegde

    Hi
       I have given you the other alternative bcoz there is a limitation while calling this FM: RV_PRICE_PRINT_HEAD.
    If you see the comments and code of Include: LV61AA11, you can understand the problem.
    <b>* mechanism to controll which conditions are already part of table TKOMV
    Every time a pricing result is read from database the key is put into
    TABGL. Also TABGL is updated if we've lines in TKOMV assigned to a
    special key but entry in TABGL (case 2).
    Originally TABGL was established to handle following pathological
    case: condition successfully read from DB -> entry in TABGL. Then all
    read conditions where deleted during processing (e.g. manually
    deletion etc.). If we run into this routine again no records should
    be redetermined from DB...</b>
      read table tabgl with table key knumv = komk-knumv
           transporting no fields.
    Case 1:
    conditions have been already read because there is a fitting entry in
    TABGL. Exit immediately if caller doesn't want to force DB access.
      if sy-subrc eq 0. ---><b> First time SY-SUBRC NE 0 so no problem</b>
         if generell_lesen ne 'X'. <b>--> Later runs SY-SUBRC  eq 0 and generell_lesen value is SPACE</b>.
            exit.
        endif.
      else.
      Hope this clarifies your doubt now.
    Kind Regards

  • Change item value before commit

    Hello,
    I have a form in which I issue an execute_query from a mouse click to retrieve database values from a data block onto a form. The user is then able to change the values of these items on the form and commit them via a button on the form. What I want to do is make sure that some of the values, based on another item in the block, are negative and if not, change them to a negative value. before the changes are commited. I can't seem to find the right trigger to accomplish this-- has anyone have an idea on how to do this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jeff

    Hi,
    How about putting your code in :
    1. Pre-Update or
    2. When-Database-Record
    [Block Level trigger]
    The trigger text could be something like :
    If (:block.col is > 0 ) Then
    :block.col := :block.col * -1;
    End If;
