Comparing Folder Permission

I use cacls to export the folder permission, and use powershell to compare-object to compare the result.
using compare-object, it will also detect the 'white space'at the beginning of each line.
how to avoid comparing 'white space'??

Hi,
Would you please share the exact steps to help us reproduce the same behavior? Did you export the folder permission to a txt file then use powershell to compare-object to compare the txt content?
If my understand is correct, you could add the -replace option in command line, such as
(get-content e:\1.txt) -replace(" ","") to delete 'white space'.

    Hi,
You can set the share and NTFS permissions on a file\folder, I'd like to share the following links with you:

  • Set Folder Permission with CSV File

I currently have a batch file that I use to set the folder permission on a users folder.  The batch file of course requires me to manually set two variables.  I'd like to have a master csv file containing this info and a powershell script to allow
me to set these permission much more quickly.  Here's my current batch file:
    Set User=123A
    Set Folder=123
    icacls C:\Data\%folder% /grant %user%:(OI)(CI)F
My csv file would appear as 123A,123
I did do a search and found a few posts on this subject, but couldn't wrap my head around how to modify them to fit my needs.

    FOR /F "eol=; tokens=1,2* delims=, " %%i in (myfile.txt) do icacls C:\Data\%%j /grant %%i:(OI)(CI)F

  • Folder permission macmini server 10.6.8 help

I own and run a small office, and i've just changed from a windows small business server who worked rocksteady, to a new mac mini server 10.6.8, because most of us use mac's.
I hired a macsepsecialist to configure and set up the server for the 6 of us. He has tried to solve our problem for 3 months now, and we still have the same problem.
When one of us creates a new folder og file inside a projectfolder on the server, it should get the same permission as the projectfolder so it is accessible to all of us. This was no problem on the windowsserver. This does not happen on the macminiserver. Only the guy who creates the folder get access. All the rest of us is denied. So far have I used a program called batchmod to fix it, but it takes time everyday to fix it.
In the workgroupmanager its like this :
8 users with UID from 1025 - 1032 belongs to three different groups.
    1. "Alle"  GID 1026 - user A,B,C,D,E,H
    2. office GID 1027 - user A,B,C,D,E,F,H
    3.Workgroup 1025 - A,B,C,D,E,F
The path for the folders on the server are : Server HD-Users-admin-my office-projects
The permission in the ServerAdmin to the folder : my office is:
    ACL: "Alle" - allow-fullcontrol- this folder,child folders,child files,all descendants
    POSIX: " Alle" - allow-read &write-this folder
On my workstation, in "the get info window" for the "my office" folder, the permission is :
If I go down one folder to the projects folder inside the "my office" folder
permission in the Server Adm program :
    ACL
    POSIX :
    admin-allow-read&write-this folder
    staff- allow-read&write-this folder
    others-allow-read&write-this folder
On my workstation, in "the get info window" for the "projects" folder, the permission is :
    -unknown - read and write
    com.apple.local.ard-reports-read and write
    everyone-read and write

    Two things.
First, your server appears to be communicating with the client on both en0 & en1 (alternately).
Second, your server appears to be sending INFORM packets, but the clients aren't replying. That's a pattern frequently seen when the client reply is being grabbed by a rouge DHCP server.

  • Damaged SSD, need to delete user folder - permission denied

Hi everyone, this is my first post.
I have installed SL onto my Kingston ssdnow v100 128GB solid-state drive (SSD) and used it as my primary OS drive along side of optibay in my first generation Macbook Pro Core Duo 2.0.
It has been funcioning perfectly until 2 months ago: my laptop would idel at the grey startup screen after a cold start with the progress indicator (circular) running indefinetly. The system files were being loaded but the process never completes. I reinstalled SL fresh a few times, all successfully, but the problem would return the next morning when switched on from cold. Traditional SATA drive was used and did not cause this problem.
I have decided that it was a SSD failure and have arranged it to be sent back to the seller.
    SO here is the PROBLEM:
I wish to delete only the USER FOLDER while preserving  system files on the SSD drive, so that when the seller tests it he is able to pick up the problem. If I format the entire drive, the seller may not pick up the fault as the drive would install OS fine and appear functional.
So I connected the SSD drive via USB to my other MBP, the Finder pops up and  tells me that the SSD drive can not be repaired but can be READ to recover my files. I then try to drag my USER FOLDER to trash but a Finder message pops up and say: It can not be deleted. The info window showed that all listed users are greyed out and clicking on the permission (read & write & read and write) did not bring up any options, just as if you can not click it. I have unlocked the info window to allow changes using admin password.
Is there anyway (maybe via Terminal.app) that I can override file permission and allow me to delete this USER FOLDER that is on the SSD drive?
    Thank you for answering.

Hi there! Welcome to the Apple comminity.
In Terminal, this is how you override something: Add "sudo " before your command. Here's an example:
    sudo rm -Rf /Volumes/SSDdrive/Users/*
It will then prompt you for a password (if you are an administrator on your computer). Good luck!
    Cheers.

  • File /folder permission problem

    Hi,
I have a share on server 2012 R2 with FULL ACCESS. Now I have problem to write in it when I mounted the network share on a PC booted with WinPE. Even I mounted the share with Administrator Account.
Effective permissions and ownership details seems to look fine.
Have deleted the user and created a new user account , still same problem ,,, isn't it odd? Has someone faced same?
    N.A.Malik

    Hello,
When you try to write in this folder, did you get any error message?
I want to confirm the administrator account is a domain accout or local account.
Personally, I think it is still a permission issue.
For test, give everyone full confrol for both share permission and NTFS permission.

  • [SOLVED] Paste whole folder permission

    Hi all
I have shared a many folders using samba. It works fine.
I have one folder named "backup" so I can paste files on it from a windows computer. From windows I can browse and paste empty folders and files on that shared folder (backup), but if I try to paste a folder which is not empty, for exemplo, a movie folder (folder+ folder/movie.avi+folder/movie.srt) I recieve a permission denied error.
I have tried to give chmod permission to folder but I still have the same issue.
Here is my ls -la output
    [janilson@archmalibu ~]$ ls -la | grep Backup
    drwxrwxrwx 4 janilson janilson 4096 Jul 20 12:12 Backup
I don't know if samba has something to do with it, but here is the samba folder code
    [Backup]
    path = /home/janilson/Backup
    read only = No
    guest only = Yes
    guest ok = Yes
    browsable = yes

    Solved with the code below
    [Backup]
    path = /home/janilson/Backup
    read only = No
    public = yes
    browsable = yes
    writable = yes
    create mask = 0777

  • Config.msi and folder permission preventing Installation

Please help - i have been using iTunes for many years and i was extremely happy with the product unitl recently. I tried to update the version of iTunes but it returned an error and asked me to download the manual version. this was completed and run (as an administrator) where i was again given an eror - you do not have permission to J:\config.msi Checking the permissions i noted that the folder only had read permisssion, this was changed and the install run again. the same error occured. I check the folder's permissions and it hadd reverted back to read only access!
I went to extremes - i uninstalled ALL apple products as per instruction on your site (discussion post - Topic: can't install 7.6 due to config.msi access error message)- restarted the machine - ensured that the file were not present, then tried again SUPRISE - it did not work - same error! this has been repeated and i am now at a complete loss.
Please help as my ipod is now an expensive paper weight!

I was able to fix this issue. I went into the task manager and ended the msiexec.exe processes. There were a few of them already active when I looked in the task manager, so I just ended all of them. One of them will be tied to the installer you're trying to use, but that's okay, just try to install it again once you have ended all of the msiexec.exe processes, and it should work.

  • Report folder permission can not add group

after upgrade to 11.1.1.2.0 ,when set report folder's permission, in the group list ,can only see "Administors", no other groups created by myself.
how can i add other groups to this list?

You are upgrading from which version to 11.1.1.2.0? Have you ensured that these groups are present in your LDAP?

  • Icacls Folder Permission Problem

    Hi,
I am using icacls within a VBScrpt specifically to change permissions to a folder.
My attempts so far only seems to change the security of only the files within the folder and subfolders, which is only half of what I need.
I wonder if there is a parameter or anything that I'm missing that will change the security of the subfolders?
    I am using this:
    icacls "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\RKYV" /grant "Users":f /t /q
Any illumination would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

... I was expecting to see a tick within the Full Control category and didn't expect to change the Special Permission category (I don't even know what the Special Permissions category is ...
    Hi,
As Forest has explained, Special Permission refers to a combination of permission (usually deviate from standard) and will become visible when you clicked the
    Advanced button.
In your case, your command line has treated the folders and files separately. For folders, it grants
Full Control to This folder only as shown above.
You have mentioned that you expected a tick within the Full Control category. Yes, it can be achieved by changing the command line as follows:
              icacls "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\RKYV" /grant "Users":(OI)(CI)f /t /q
where CI = Container Inherit, and OI = Object Inherit.
Hope that helps. I have learnt this command because you asked :)

  • Users folder permission

My friend was updating her macbook, she said she was doing an update for Microsoft office. Upon reboot it will hang at a blue screen. I can't even get it to go into safe mode. Anyways, I didn't want to mess around with it, I wanted to get her files off of the hdd since she does not have any backups.
I put a spare hard drive I have laying around, installed OSX 10.6 and put the old hard drive into an external enclosure. I can see the drive and browse it but when it comes time to go into her actual folder under the "Users" folder, there is a red circle with a line through it. It'll say something about I don't have permission to view content. I tried changing the permissions through the folder info and once I do I can go in her folder but its blank.
I've been searching around and I have read through many threads and I don't know what else I can try.
    I need some guidance.

    WZZZ,
Sorry I actually marked the wrong one by mistake. I was able to view the files inside by resetting the home folder permissions using the information you posted.
    Thanks again!
Try resetting the home folder Permissions.
Boot from the Mac OS X Install Disc:
    Insert the disc.
    Shut down the computer.
Turn it on again whilst holding down the C key.
You can let go when you see a spinning dial.
Click through the menus until you after you’ve accepted a license agreement.
Snow Leopard: At the top, click Utilities -> Reset Password.
Lion: At the top, click Utilities -> Terminal. Type resetpassword in the Terminal and press Enter.
Click on your main hard drive.
In the dropdown box under “Select the user account” make sure to select your username.
Underneath where it says “Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs”, click the Reset button.
Press cmd + Q to Quit the Reset Password application. Press it again if you have a Terminal open.
Click Mac OS X Installer in the top left and click Quit Mac OS X Installer.
    Click the Startup Disk button.
Click on your main hard drive and click the Restart button.

  • Folder permission reset and missing folders or files

This issue only occurs once per month on an estimate.
When we come in to office in the morning, we will discover our folders permission has been reset and some files are missing.
When we use the restore previous version, we can still find the files or folders in the last SECOND version. The last version will shows some files missing. Usually the last version is after office hours. Is there any possible cause to this issue for example
    DFS services, VSS services, etc?
We also found out, if there is a wrongly moved folder e.g c:\123 has been moved to c:\anotherfolder\123, the latest copy will also reflect the wrongly moved folder, e.g. c:\anotherfolder\123 instead of c:\123 (which is right)
This is just like as if the parent folder has been restored to a certain date by an unknown program.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Do you using a DFS share for that? If so, please refer to the article below to check if it helps:
The ACL permission of some DFS folders is incorrectly reset after you restart the DFS Namespace service in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2464365/en-us
You could configure auditing on the folder. Then you can go through the auditing log to check which process is doing on all these files.

  • Quicktime Windows 7 64bit folder permission problem

    Hi!
I am trying to install quicktime (actually just need iTunes..but then iTunes needs qt), but it fails. There seems to be a problem with the folder C:\Program Files(x86)\QuickTime\ - Quick Time wants to write the file QTTask.exe, but complains that it does not have permission to do so. Same thing happens with \PropertyPanels\PanelHelperBase.qpa
I have tried deleting all Apple programs (in the order suggested in the support forum) and also tried to delete the temp folder. That did not work.
I have tried to manually adjust the permissions of the QuickTime folder - no effect.
I have run the installation file with admin rights and with different compatibility modes to no effect.
I consider myself to be an experienced user - able to solve most problems - but now I am stuck. I need some input / fresh ideas on how to tackle the problem.
This is very annoying as I cannot sync iPhone/iPad/iPod while iTunes is not running - due to the stupid (sorry) idea of only have your device linked to one library.
    Please help.
    Thanks!

    That's consistent with disk/file damage.
Let's first try running a chkdsk over your C drive. There's Windows 7 instructions in the following document. Select both "automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you choose to go about things). You should be prompted to schedule the scan to run on restart. That sort of scan of the C drive should take a long time ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan:
http://www.w7forums.com/use-chkdsk-check-disk-t448.html (How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk))
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, does an itunes install go through properly this time?

  • Mirrored Folder - Permission denied

When trying to upload a file to a mirrored folder, we get the error message "permission denied".
We use teaming 2.1 on SLES 11 SP1.
The mirrored folder is a file based one. (not WebDav)
This folder is a directory on the teaming server itself.
    any ideas ?

Are you adding documents to the (mirrored) folder from the Teaming UI via a web-browser? If so, have you checked to make sure you have the access rights to add documents to the mirrored folder? During setup of mirrored folders, did you specify a list of users groups who have access to the folder?

  • Simple folder permission question...I think

I have 5 folders for each network user. They are all under one main folder. I'm finding that if Dick drops a file in Jane's folder the file is still owned by Dick while the group is "users". But Jane (being part of "users" group) can't modify Dick's file (who is also in "users" group), but can only read it. I ran a "chmod 774" on Jane's folder but it only changes what's currently in the folder and not to something new that is dropped in or modified afterwards. Keeping ownership is fine, but everyone in the group should be able to read and write everything in everyone's folder that is under "users" group.
What am I missing here? I know it's something simple.

I'm in the office and just ran a bunch of tests with my MBP and other XP machines. Turns out, my user account, for some strange reason, is causing everyone else to be locked out of files if "I" edit them or create them. I'm in the same groups as everyone else, users. There doesn't appear to be anything special about my account as compared to others, same UID range 1000. Thinking it might be something on my MBP, I connected to the share as another user....everything worked fine.
Also, as an aside, I noticed that when I use Get Info on a file, is shows the Master as the owner, and group/everyone as read only....BUT everyone else CAN read/write/save the file. Strange, strange, strange.
