Compatability with Word 2003

I just downloaded ExportPDF. It seemed to convert ok to a docx file. Bu it wont open in Word 2003.

Hi
Microsoft offers a compatibility pack for earlier versions of Office  that allows, for instance, Word 2003 to open Word 2007 documents. More  info:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/open-a-word-2007-document-in-an-earlier-versio n-of-word-HA010044473.aspx
There will be some Docx features that behave differently or are  substituted when opened in Word 2003. These are listed in the second web  page link.

  • WinHelp 2000 with Word 2003

My company asked me to learn Robohelp and create a document,
so I learned from Adobe Robohelp 6 but they supplied me with
Macromedia X5. The HTML part works fine, but I need to create a
Winhelp 2000 hlp. output. When I import Word documents into Winhelp
2003, it spews out error messages, jumbles exhibits and headings,
and created Topics and Mid-topic IDs at random--that is, when it
doesn't lock up completely. Am I missing something? I downloaded
updates, so it should work with Word 2003, but its lack of function
is appaling. I have lost days trying to install and then debug this
software on this and am desperate. Is there a fix or a workaround?
I have downloaded a converter for chm to hlp, but it doesn't
output with the proper skin. Help! (And thanks)

  • Is BIP ver 11.1.1.5.0 compatible with Word 2003

I am developing BI Pub forms for E1 on a E910 and tools 9.1.0.4 release. The work PC I am using for the BIP forms has Word 2003 loaded. When editing the Word rtf template the fields will flicker and it often hangs when Starting .Net runtime. If it hangs I end Word. Sometimes it hangs during the flickering issue. It is very annoying. As a work around I bring the Word and xml to my personal PC, make the changes and bring back to the work environment. This seems to be okay but is very time consuming.
I have looked for recommended tech specs as to whether Word 2003 is compatible with BIP ver 11.1.1.5.0 but I haven't found anything. Is there any documentation on this? Does any one have any suggestions as to how to solve the issue if it isn't a compatibility problem. Thanks

  • Fata Error 1603 when installing X5 on XP machine with Word 2003

I am trying to install RoboHelp X5 on a Dell running XP with
Office 2003 installed. I have an older installation CD, with only
Word XP, Woord 2000, and Word 97 as selections. I have tried both
Word XP and Word 2000. I have selected just RoboHelp Office, I have
tried it with just RoboHelp Office and RoboHelp Control Client, and
I have tried it with those two plus the 1-Step PDF. I get the same
    2 errors each time.
First, I get an error 1324: The path Portugu?s (Portugal)
    contains an invalid character.
    I OK through that.
Then I get a Feature Transfer Error, error 1603: Fatal error
during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (msi.chm) or
    MSDN for more information.
Needless to say, I found nothing specific enough on the MSDN
site to help me figure out what to do next.
    Can anyone help me out?

Take a look at the topic on my site about installing
RoboHelp. The Portug?s is covered in Snippets
I haven't seen the Feature Transfer Error but hopefully
something in the article will make the installation go properly and
    avoid it.

  • X5 Compatibility with Office 2003

    Hello everyone,
This morning I installed X5 with .02 Update on a new computer
that has Windows XP and Office 2003. I have Admin Rights. Today was
to mark the conversion of my Winhelp projects to HTML. I opened
RoboHelp HTML and proceeded to import the HPJ, which led to the
"Robohelp has encountered an error and needs to close" message. I
tried again and got the same thing. I uninstalled/reinstalled and
tried again. Same thing. I then tried to create a new project. I
filled in all the blanks and when I clicked Finish, I got the same
    message.
I know Word 2003 hasn't played very well with RoboHelp for
Word in the past, but is it the same with RoboHelp HTML? I'm truly
    stumped
    Thanks for any input.
    Jennifer

I would suggest then that the problem is related to your
project. Have you tried rebooting your PC and then trying to create
a new project - i.e. before you've tried converting your HPJ? If
that works it definitely is your project. In that case I'd try
separating the RTF file into smaller RTF files and import them one
at a time. If you hit the same problem you know where your problem
in. Repeat this exercise until you narrow the problem down enough.
    Best of luck.

    Hi there stol08,
Try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03275041&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.
    Best of Luck!

    Hi,
Our one of the customer has recently updated Win 8.1 Pro 32 Bit from Win XP.  They are using MS Office 2003 32 Bit since long.  With XP Office 2003 was working perfectly.  But with Win 8.1 they have found one problem.
When they are typing mail ID in "TO" or "CC" the saved email ID is appear but by pressing ENTER the Auto fill action is not accepted.  Because of this problem, customer have to type email id manually each and every time.
Can you please help me to resolve or clarify this problem.
    Thank You..!!

    Hi Shashank,
Just as Dominic's share, Microsoft Office 2003 suites and applications are not compatible with Windows 8 and later Operating System.
I suggest you upgrade your Office version. Microsoft Office 2013 could work on Windows 8.1 seamlessly.

  • Compatability with word

    Hi -
I (like MikeBook Pro) have been trying to decide between the new iWork 08 suite and the new Microsoft suite for Mac. My problem is that while I would much prefer to use the Mac suite, I am concerned that documents I create in Pages will not be able to be read by Word users. Unfortunately I already had both versions on my computer but I foolishly let the trial period run out before I ran some experiments. I'm a student so my main concern is with simple documents created in Pages - sometimes I have to send papers to other students or to my professors and I need to be sure that microsoft users will be able to open my documents. Does anyone know if these two software suites are compatible?

They are compatible to a large extent. However, if you intend to send files to your professors, it is probably not enough that they probably will get basically the same format you see in Pages. You need to know that they get exactly the right format. And Pages cannot guarantee that.

  • Adobe Pro 6.0 no longer works with Word 2003

As an Archivist/Librarian I need Classical Greek and Hebrew keyboards and fonts. The combination of Adobe PRO 6.0, Windows 2003 and XP and some specialized maco's provided that. This has worked until a few months back.
PDFMaker.dot was copied to WORD/STARTUP as per installation instruction. It still works for EXCEL but no longer for WORD.
I hate to use other PDF creation facilities as they do not work as good as Adobe.
    Regards,

The 6.5 update isn't stable on 10.4.6 either. I finally gave up and got Squeeze 4.3 from Sorenson Media. It works just fine and the quality is great.

  • OT: Problems with docs from Word 2003 in Word 2008

First, my apologies because this is probably off topic but no one answered in the officeformac.com forum.
    Now, to my question.
I often have to work with Word documents (from 10 to 100 or so pages) that have been created using Word 2003 for Windows. In these docs, track changes is turned on.
When I open them with Word 2008 for Mac (in compatibility mode) everything works okay. I can edit and changes are tracked (with bubbles at the side and all).
However, when I copy the doc back on the server (samba share) and open the doc again with Word 2003 on a Windows machine, the docs are often (though not always) messed up. To be precise, all the tables are split up in such a way, that each row of a table appears on it's own page. All the content is there, but the tables are spread over multiple pages.
I have all the Mac and Word updates installed and also installed the Windows fonts.
Has anyone had similar experiences? Any ideas what could be causing this?
    Best regards

My only thoughts would be to try NeoOffice or OpenOffice, both of which are extremely MS Office compatible, and work on Leopard. They also have PC versions as well.
MS Office on Macs has never been a really good fit, and as you are aware, support from MS is poor to nonexistent.

  • Page numbers display as 5 of 1 and 2 of 2121 in a PDF that was created from a Word 2003 document

We merge several Word 2003 documents into 1 larger document that we then convert to PDF.  The page numbers in the Word document display properly - 1 of 21, 2 of 21, 3 of 21, etc.  We then convert that merged document to PDF by right-clicking the filename and choosing "Convert to Adobe PDF".  For those of us with Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.1.3, the page numbers in the converted PDF file display as 1 of 1, 2 of 1, ... 21 of 1.  Those with Acrobat Professional 8.1.3, they display as 1 of 21, 2 of 2121, 3 of 212121, etc., each page adding another total number of pages to the total.  There is no change in the result if using v8.0.0 or 8.1.4  Does anyone have any ideas???

Unless you have a specific reason to upgrade to OFFICE 2007, I would not recommend it. I hate it -- have it on two computers. I have had problems creating PDFs reliably from WORD 2007 and PPT 2007, at least with graphics. The conversion seems to want to split graphics up into several parts rather than leave it as one. It does not happen with WORD 2003 and so assume this is some sort of issue with OFFICE 2007. You can get the graphics fine if you use the MS plugin for PDF creation, but then you have to deal with the MS version of a PDF. If you want to try it on one computer in your office, I would do that before you make the change. However, if what you have meets the need, then why change unless there are specific items that you are looking for and don't have.
OK, that is my opinion. I am sure there are counter arguments. If I had the preference on my newer machines, I would have OFFICE 2003. Bill

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 still can't convert Word 2003 files?

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/673769 is a link to the same discussion a year ago.  There was no option for me to add a reply, so I had to create a new discussion here.
HAS THIS PROBLEM BEEN FIXED?  Fujitsu's pdf printer S1500 comes with a full OEM version Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard, which I just installed.  Immediately it caused problems with Word 2003, just as the above discussion link illustrates.  Clearly that's a problem with Adobe Acrobat not being able to read SOME fonts.  Where is there any bug fix for this?
Why would a customer want to upgrade Adobe Acrobat, if he can't get font support?  In my case, it appears that GREEK FONTS are not supported, which makes no sense, if the fonts are installed in Windows.  The pdf-converter knock-offs like Smart Creator PDF Pro can convert just fine -- so why not Adobe Acrobat?  Who wants to pay more for Adobe, if it is worse?
So again I ask -- has this problem been fixed?  Very unprofessional, if the answer is 'no'.
Very unproductive, too.  I spent hours on computer crashes, reinstall uninstall detect and repair, just like the posters in that thread above, from a year ago.  Businesses don't need this kind of aggravation.  IS ADOBE EVEN LISTENING?  Very unprofessional, if the answer is 'no'.

First, this is a user-to-user forum and not one for Adobe. They are sometimes around, but not on a regular basis. The lengthy discussion in the link did not apparently get folks to a solution. I did not see your handle in the discussion.
Two common errors were suggested, one the color setup and the other was font errors. Keep in mind that just because you have a font, it might not be able to be embedded in the file. That is due to copyright restrictions. The font file has to have the permission built into it to be used. That may be the case for any font that you download from another source. Most of the MS fonts are licensed for embedding.
Also, just because you have a font with the same name, does not mean it is the same. There are often multiple versions of the fonts, some that are useful and others not.
Out of the linked discussion, I have no idea what issues you are having -- there were many. I use AA9 with OFFICE 2007 and have no problems. I also use AA8 with OFFICE 2007. For AA7 I have a machine that runs OFFICE XP (2003). None of these have issues. To be able to help (if we can at all) it is necessary to track down the conditions when the problem occurs and possibly try to replicate it some. A few folks mentioned 64-bit systems in the linked discussion. The 64-bit systems have caused a lot of problems and generally require the updates for proper opertation.
From the point-of-view of trying to fix things without delving into the specfics, all I can suggest are a repair and then updates to the latest version of Acrobat. The updates should be able to be done from the Help menu, but if not from there you can download them from the Adobe Downloads>updates site.
Probably not considered much help at this point, but I really don't have enough information to home in on the problem. It may be that my copyright comment about fonts is really the issue (you should get an error message from Distiller if you print to the Adobe PDF printer that suggest the problem. As far as other packages, if they do indeed embed copyright fonts that do not have permission, then you are technically violating the law, even if allowed by the software. I have no idea if that is the case, but it is a possibility.

  • Acrobat X Pro: No PDFMaker tools in Word 2003

    Hi all,
Although Adobe says that Acrobat X is compatible with Word 2003, PDFMaker did not install (in Word or any other of my Office apps) when I installed the Acrobat X Pro package today. No ribbon, no add-in menus, nothing.
I have tried manually adding the .DLL COM add-ins, but all I get is Word saying that it's not a valid add-in. Acrobat is not on the disabled list (no apps are), but it just will not install.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Office 2003, CS4 Design Standard and newly-installed Acrobat X Professional (and yes, I uninstalled Acrobat 9 Pro prior to installing X).
Any help would be appreciated. I know I can just print to the PDF printer, but that will not include the in-document bookmarks I need to generate.
    Thanks.

They do indeed indicate it should be compatible. When you say it did not install, I assume you simply mean there is no Adobe menu in WORD. You will have to go to place in WORD where you permit other macros. Typically what happens is that it does not show because WORD has not allowed it in their system. That is an option you must activate.

  • Word 2003 - Acrobat menus disappear for some (not all) documents

I have a user who is having a very bizarre issue with Word 2003 and Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.  When he opens some Word documents, the PDF menus disappear.  They are immediately restored when he closes the document or creates a new document.  We've tried repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling to no avail.  He uses several custom templates, but they are applied at startup to all documents.  Any other troubleshooting ideas?  Could the fact that he's using Word 2003 instead of 2007 be causing the problem?
    Thanks

More information: I just checked the version of the file I had on my hard drive, and it's doing the same thing there. However, the other similar documents in the same folder on my hard drive are not behaving this way, so apparently it's not specifically
    a SharePoint issue.

  • MS Word 2003 - highlighting problem

Hi, i have a problem with Word 2003, which i have as part of office 03 pro edition.
When i drag select some text in it, typing something in doesn't overwrite it, it just sticks the new text in infront of the selection. Pressing backspace also doesn't delete it. the only way to remove the text is to select it and hit Del before typing anything. I've tried putting my office CD back in and hitting repair, and i've tried hitting reinstall (which replaces all the files and presumably registry data without having to uninstall first, all it does differently to a fresh install is bypass the product key stuff and go on the validation from previous install), but after either of those the problem's still there.
has anyone had a similar problem or does anyone know of a solution?

ah jack, if only all problems were as simple as hitting the insert key. unfortunately this problem can't be solved with that.
StefanS, I've tried what i think you mean, removing it via "add/remove programs" in control panel and reinstalling chosing custom and the minimum components. I didn't think it would work, since this copy of office has been fine on this computer for the first 6 months or so and has worked on my old computer fine for years.... and then it didn't work.
Since my windows explorer is messed up too, i may have some sort of virus, although symantec corporate 10 can't see anything. whatever it is, i have enough problems i think to warrant a reinstall of windows via the toshiba product recovery CD (hope this OEM copy doesn't need activating, i hate how u can only activate windows 3 times per CD and after that you have to buy windows again) I recently bought an external hard drive, so i'll back up stuff onto there and wipe my computer.
    Thanks for the suggestions though.
