Compatibility with Microsoft Small Business Server?

The table of Windows compatibility in the FAQ here on OTN says that all four versions (Enterprise, Standard, Personal, and Client) of Oracle9i Release 2 are supported on Windows Server 2003, and that "Server 2003" includes Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter, Web (32bit), and Enterprise and Datacenter (64-bit).
Does anyone know if this includes Microsoft Small Business Server? Microsoft SBS is a collection of components and techologies, including, it says on the box, "Windows Server 2003 technology".
Thanks for sharing any experience you have had.

Hi and welcome to Discussions,

While written for OSX 10.4 Tiger it should nonetheless be applicable for OSX 10.6 as well.
Hope it helps

  • Compatibility with Windows Small Business Server

I bought an iMac recently and it's a revelation.
I have been getting p$%^&d off with my Sony Vaio + Windows 7 setup at our small business. All the usual rubbish, no need to list it.
So I bought a 15" Mac Book Pro for work, with Office 2008 (I have that on the home iMac and it's fine for my purposes).
We have Microsoft Small Business Server at the office. My question is will I be able to sync with that - i.e. store and retrieve my documents between the Mac and the server? Or do I need Parallels and Windows 7 on the Mac? Or have I screwed up?
    Any pointers appreciated thanks!

  • Ethernet connectivity issue with Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS)

Just recently updated my OS to Yosemite, and am now having ongoing problems connecting to my company's Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS).
I'm having no other issues connecting to outside server's via wifi or ethernet, but once I connect to our local business server I lose internet connection and also my email account goes offline (Microsoft Outlook 2011). Sometimes the connection will intermittently return, but will be very slow and won't load images. I had no connection issue's before the update.
    Anyone experienced a similar problem?

"That depends on what what resources you use the server for."
    - I will be using the printer for print sharing and file sharing. There is an estimating application I will load on a Mac Mini and will want to share that to other desktops.

  • OSX 10.9 compatibility with Windows Small Business Server 2011?

    Hi
I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me as our external server guys have been particularly unhelpful!
I'm the only Mac on a Windows server, which has recently been upgraded (??) to Windows Small Business Server 2011. I've recenty upgraded the work iMac to 10.9, but ever since the server change, I'm having intermittent dificulties saving files. Often, I get and error saying the file cannot be saved as I don't have permission to access the folder - which then worryingly REMOVES the file I'm trying to overwrite WITHOUT WARNING.
If I'm using Photoshop save for web, I get errors when clicking 'Save' to say that it can't, but does save the file, plus a second with a gibberish file name.
Most worryingly though, is that now on two occasions caused the iMac to crash and shutdown immediately, which is not good at all. Once was moving a file to overwrite another in the Finder, the second (today) was saving from Illustrator.
I'd noticed weird things with our old 2003 server before the switch and when I was still on 10.6 - mainly that my iMac was slow when connected (Adobe apps etc opened in a flash when unconnected, but took minutes when plugged in), but now I'm on 10.9 and the new server installed, these saving issues have arisen. (I ended up wiping the Mac and completely reinstalling everything to cure that slowness issue - never did find out what it was!).
The server guys are adamant that this has nothing to do with the server, and is all linked to my iMac - personally I'm not so sure, but I'm asking here to see if anyone else has had issues? It seems like some kind of permission problem? Do I need any special network settings for it to play nicely with the Windows server? My internet, email all goes through it, and I use it to store my work, but I'm not linked to any other server software in any way.
If anyone may have any clues to help I'd be really grateful!
    Many thanks!
    Ben

Thanks for the response - this is why I'm asking though- I can't see anything on the iMac which would be causing this, and saving files to a folder on a server is a pretty basic fuction, and I can't risk the crashes. I don't see how the iMac connection would be causing this, or for the files to 'vanish' but if it is the iMac settings I'll need to find a fix. Every one else is okay, but I'm the only one using this software and filetypes. Surely the Windows software would have some kind of instructions for connecting Macs?
I was hoping someone may have experience and if any additional network settings might be needed. I will check with Apple support also to see if they have any info, but thought I may get a good response here.
What I meant by the "server guys" is that's it's an external company we pay to look after it - so I'd hoped they might have at least looked into it for me, but it's a brick wall "We don't support Macs" response... which is why I think it's unhelpful - even though they supplied the software knowing it needs to have multiplatform support...
    It's really frustrating.
And I hope nobody does insist I use Windows... please... I'd have to leave....
EDIT - "We"?? - Do you work for them!?

  • Is mountain Lion compatible with Windows Small Business Server 2003

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me if Mac OS 10.8 is compatible with Microsoft Small Business Server 2003.  We connected Mac Os 10.7 machines to our MS server but we have no results with Mac Os 10.8.  Our Windows server is an HP proliant with SBS 2003 SP2.
    Thx
    Philippe

I'd recommend calling AppleCare to research this one, you probably should tell them which Mail client you are using on the iMac...i.e. Mail, Outlook, etc...

  • How long does Microsoft Small Business Server 2008 support?

    Hi,
How long does Microsoft SBS 2008 (Vista like server installation)? At what time we have to upgrade our server?
    Thanks,
    Eddy

    Hi Eddy,
Below article take you to support like cycle of SBS 2008.
    http://support2.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=13231
You will not see exact support date mentioned here as the underlying component is a Windows 2008 server and if you take windows 2008 the extended support is still the year 2020 as per the below Microsoft article.
    http://support2.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=12925
and life cycle of various Microsoft products can be cross checked at the below reference article:
    http://support2.microsoft.com/gp/lifeselectserv?wa=wsignin1.0
    Upgrade ?
I suggest you to plan upgrade based on your requirement ? What applications you are using on existing environment and what user need you are expecting ? based on these you need to plan whether you need to migrate to a new platform or not ? Also you need
to decide which version of Windows you want to migrate ? SBS version ? or Non SBS versions ( I mean other than SBS family).
You can see more details on Windows Essentials here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Server_Essentials

    Hi Toby,
Just an addition. Did you use an administrator account to logon the RWA and then connect to the remote computer?
    Did encounter the same issue?
Meanwhile, please refer to following threads and check if can help you.

  • Remote Access to Windows Small Business Server System via VPN

Same old story: I use macs at home but I want to be able to connect to our small company Windows network over the internet to pick up and put down files.
Said company network consists of a server running Microsoft Small Business Server and Exchange. The data sits on some network drives (Z: etc, you know the sort of thing).
I've sorted out email access - I just connect to the Exchange Webmail interface and do all that using a web browser at home.
Now for data: well, I have successfully connected to our company network using VPN PPTP by following the guidance in Pogue's Missing Manual. The VPN window reports that I am connected to ip 192.168.0.150 which our network guru tells me is the address of the "Internal virtual network adapter on the VPN." The actual server PC with the data on it is at .100.
Now, he's a great guy and everything but is definitely a Microsoft man only. When I asked him how to browse our network files on the server he told me to set up a network share using Windows explorer.
So..can anyone please advise how I can translate that action into OSX land? I have searched the Apple support papers but with no success. These days most hits for VPN concern the blessed iPhone....
I have tried in the finder running connect to server and typing in smb://servername. That returns error code -36 "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in [that address] cannot be read or written". I have tried using the company lan IP address for the server instead and that returns "name or password is not correct".
I appreciate these things often depend completely on the fine details of our setup. If nothing else, does anyone know a good book to assist here - Pogue is a great basic guide but not really detailed enough for this sort of thing. Failing that, how do I find out what error -36 means? Ta.

  • E61i VPN (small business server) Error 'Acu' -1040...

I am trying to connect the E61i to our microsoft small business server through a VPN with no luck. The error message I'm getting is "Error: unspecified error, source 'Acu', error code -104011, state code 6"
The settings in the VPN section has confused even our IT support staff and I am quickly running out of options. What do I need to do to get this working? I have successfully connected to the email server from within the VPN so there is nothing wrong with that connection.
Please help me out before I break the beautiful little device into pieces in frustration.

Still not working... Have spoken to heaps of people at Nokia, and have been told that I "only" need to buy additional software / hardware (Nokia Communication Server) or "code my own security certificate".. ridiculous! So, the question is still valid - is it impossible to get a Nokia mobile to work with the world's most commonly used server for small businesses (Microsoft)?

  • Can't connect to Small Business Server 2003 via Active Directory

I have done lots of searching, both in these forums and the wider internet, and cannot find a solution to my specific problem.
I am trying to connect my G5 (10.3.9) to a Windows network. We have a Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 with Active Directory. The PCs have no problem using this, and I can connect to shares setup on the server via AFP.
But I am having problems when I try to configure the AD plug-in in Directory Access on the Mac. When I click 'Bind', I enter the Server's Administrator username & password and when I click 'OK', it gets to Step 3 of 5 "Verifying Credentials". It ticks away at this step for about 30 seconds, then comes up with error message saying "Invalid user name and password combination."
I have tried other users with admin privileges, but they don't work either. I know the usernames and passwords aren't invalid, because I created them. I have tried fiddling around with other settings in the AD setup, but nothing gets any further.
Without any other 3rd party software (that's my final option), is there something I need to check/change, either on the Mac or the server, to make this Mac to authenticate via AD? Please help!

Hi Andbrowny, thanks for your response.
Your advice didn't really help my Active Directory problem (AD doesn't require SMB does it?), but it gave me some progress on my SMB problem. I can connect via AFP, but previously when I tried to connect via SMB, it kept coming up with the error "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct".
Now, after changing the policies on the server, I get an error -43 message saying "The operation could not be completed because one or more required items cannot be found."
So now I have two problems! SMB is not finding something it needs, and Active Directory is not "verifying credentials".
Actually, I have three problems: When I am connected via AFP, filenames over 31 characters long are truncated on the server, and I can't copy long filenames onto the server without renaming them. I have read that SMB would fix this to a degree (256 characters for the complete file path), but is there anything (a protocol or software) that allows long filenames to be read/written with ease?
Side note: The server is not 100% configured, the bloke installing it still has some work to do, but Active Directory works for all the XP machines, and I can connect to each XP workstation with SMB.

  • Mail for Exchange / Small Business Server

It appears that Nokia has overlooked a part of the market with its Mail for Exchange application. Apparently, M4E has difficulty communicating with Exchange if it is part of Small Business Server and a self signed certificate is used.
It would be a good idea if someone at Nokia reads this and cares to put it on a list of 'things we could do - to keep customers happy". Small Business Sever is Microsoft's Server product for up to 75 clients. That is a nice world wide market of small businesses that are known to adept quickly, unlike larger organizations.
This lack of "sweating the details" has caused me personally probably 20-30 hours, and judging from the the number of entries other people have also wasted lots of time.
In addition to the time wasted, we are now forced to purchased a commercial server certificate.
More details on the M4E/SBS issue can be found here: http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2006/12/07/using-a-nokia-device-to-sync-with-small-business-ser...

  • Error detected by export DLL. Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP 1

    Post Author: craig.engelbrecht
    CA Forum: .NET
I have an Excel report that stopped working on a live environment a couple months ago. When I run the report I get the error 'Error detected by export DLL'.The server is running Microsoft Windows Small Business Server, Service Pack 1 and is using Crystal Reports 9.I am unable to replicate this error on other environments running the same configuration.I tried installing 'crnet11win_en.exe', even though this was a fix for Windows Server 2003 SP2, still no luck. Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this and how it can be fixed?? Thanks,Craig

    Thanks Ludek
We found the issue after doing control tests, here.
We found that our crystal viewer, developed in .NET 2003, does not work with XP SP3, even with the fix crnet11win_en.exe.
    Our control test, was:
Ran report with XP SP2, exported ok
Upgraded pc to XP SP3, then ran report again, Report failed to export, with error message as described.
Had a crystal viewer set for  using .NET 2005 files, but not yet ready for deployment to users, tested and was able to export to excel using .NET 2005 with XP SP3.
The issue seems to relate to exportmodeller.dll, which was the issue in the past when XP was upgraded and stopped the export function from working before.

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Small Business Server

Has anyone been successful syncing email with a MS Exchange Server 2003 Small Business Server?
My IT guy has tunred on IMAP, but still no luck. Just get a warning message that the iPhone cannot connect to the server.
    Thanks.

Turning IMAP on is the 1st step. IT will also need to open that port (143) on the firewall.
