Ethernet connectivity issue with Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS)

Just recently updated my OS to Yosemite, and am now having ongoing problems connecting to my company's Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS).
I'm having no other issues connecting to outside server's via wifi or ethernet, but once I connect to our local business server I lose internet connection and also my email account goes offline (Microsoft Outlook 2011). Sometimes the connection will intermittently return, but will be very slow and won't load images. I had no connection issue's before the update.
Anyone experienced a similar problem?

"That depends on what what resources you use the server for."
- I will be using the printer for print sharing and file sharing. There is an estimating application I will load on a Mac Mini and will want to share that to other desktops.

  • Compatibility with Microsoft Small Business Server?

The table of Windows compatibility in the FAQ here on OTN says that all four versions (Enterprise, Standard, Personal, and Client) of Oracle9i Release 2 are supported on Windows Server 2003, and that "Server 2003" includes Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter, Web (32bit), and Enterprise and Datacenter (64-bit).
Does anyone know if this includes Microsoft Small Business Server? Microsoft SBS is a collection of components and techologies, including, it says on the box, "Windows Server 2003 technology".
Thanks for sharing any experience you have had.

  • Is mountain Lion compatible with Windows Small Business Server 2003

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me if Mac OS 10.8 is compatible with Microsoft Small Business Server 2003.  We connected Mac Os 10.7 machines to our MS server but we have no results with Mac Os 10.8.  Our Windows server is an HP proliant with SBS 2003 SP2.
    Thx

I'd recommend calling AppleCare to research this one, you probably should tell them which Mail client you are using on the iMac...i.e. Mail, Outlook, etc...

  • Compatibility with Windows Small Business Server

I bought an iMac recently and it's a revelation.
I have been getting p$%^&d off with my Sony Vaio + Windows 7 setup at our small business. All the usual rubbish, no need to list it.
So I bought a 15" Mac Book Pro for work, with Office 2008 (I have that on the home iMac and it's fine for my purposes).
We have Microsoft Small Business Server at the office. My question is will I be able to sync with that - i.e. store and retrieve my documents between the Mac and the server? Or do I need Parallels and Windows 7 on the Mac? Or have I screwed up?
    Any pointers appreciated thanks!

  • OSX 10.9 compatibility with Windows Small Business Server 2011?

    Hi
I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me as our external server guys have been particularly unhelpful!
I'm the only Mac on a Windows server, which has recently been upgraded (??) to Windows Small Business Server 2011. I've recenty upgraded the work iMac to 10.9, but ever since the server change, I'm having intermittent dificulties saving files. Often, I get and error saying the file cannot be saved as I don't have permission to access the folder - which then worryingly REMOVES the file I'm trying to overwrite WITHOUT WARNING.
If I'm using Photoshop save for web, I get errors when clicking 'Save' to say that it can't, but does save the file, plus a second with a gibberish file name.
Most worryingly though, is that now on two occasions caused the iMac to crash and shutdown immediately, which is not good at all. Once was moving a file to overwrite another in the Finder, the second (today) was saving from Illustrator.
I'd noticed weird things with our old 2003 server before the switch and when I was still on 10.6 - mainly that my iMac was slow when connected (Adobe apps etc opened in a flash when unconnected, but took minutes when plugged in), but now I'm on 10.9 and the new server installed, these saving issues have arisen. (I ended up wiping the Mac and completely reinstalling everything to cure that slowness issue - never did find out what it was!).
The server guys are adamant that this has nothing to do with the server, and is all linked to my iMac - personally I'm not so sure, but I'm asking here to see if anyone else has had issues? It seems like some kind of permission problem? Do I need any special network settings for it to play nicely with the Windows server? My internet, email all goes through it, and I use it to store my work, but I'm not linked to any other server software in any way.
If anyone may have any clues to help I'd be really grateful!
    Many thanks!
    Ben

Thanks for the response - this is why I'm asking though- I can't see anything on the iMac which would be causing this, and saving files to a folder on a server is a pretty basic fuction, and I can't risk the crashes. I don't see how the iMac connection would be causing this, or for the files to 'vanish' but if it is the iMac settings I'll need to find a fix. Every one else is okay, but I'm the only one using this software and filetypes. Surely the Windows software would have some kind of instructions for connecting Macs?
I was hoping someone may have experience and if any additional network settings might be needed. I will check with Apple support also to see if they have any info, but thought I may get a good response here.
What I meant by the "server guys" is that's it's an external company we pay to look after it - so I'd hoped they might have at least looked into it for me, but it's a brick wall "We don't support Macs" response... which is why I think it's unhelpful - even though they supplied the software knowing it needs to have multiplatform support...
    It's really frustrating.
And I hope nobody does insist I use Windows... please... I'd have to leave....
EDIT - "We"?? - Do you work for them!?

  • Connecting to a Windows Small Business Server

I have tried several times to connect to our offices Window based Small Business Server with my MacBook Pro without success. Can anyone give me a step by step process for this connection.
I am currently running the MBP using Boot Camp, the windows side connects easily (as you would expect) to the server. But I would much rather stay in the OS X environment.
    Help please.
    Dave

You'll need to disable digital signing on the server.

  • Connected to a Windows Small Business Server

    Hi all,
I'm trying to hook a Powerbook up to a Windows server running Windows Small Business Server.
The server was previously running NT, and I could see the server's drives in the Network pane of the finder.
Now, I can see the drives, but whenever I try to connect to it, the finder displays a message saying that the alias could not find the original.
Any hints would be much appreciated!

A quick & easy one to try is instead of using the network pane, in the finder click on 'Go>Connect to Server>' then enter something like afp://127.0.0.1/sharename
For connecting to windows it will probably be smb://IPaddress/sharename
Sometimes (who knows why) the finder wont display a valid share... But you can connect this way... (I had this prob with a win2000 server yesterday)
Try that... please ask if you need further clarification
    Cheers.

  • How long does Microsoft Small Business Server 2008 support?

    Hi,
How long does Microsoft SBS 2008 (Vista like server installation)? At what time we have to upgrade our server?
    Thanks,
    Eddy

    Hi Eddy,
Below article take you to support like cycle of SBS 2008.
    http://support2.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=13231
You will not see exact support date mentioned here as the underlying component is a Windows 2008 server and if you take windows 2008 the extended support is still the year 2020 as per the below Microsoft article.
    http://support2.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=12925
and life cycle of various Microsoft products can be cross checked at the below reference article:
    http://support2.microsoft.com/gp/lifeselectserv?wa=wsignin1.0
    Upgrade ?
I suggest you to plan upgrade based on your requirement ? What applications you are using on existing environment and what user need you are expecting ? based on these you need to plan whether you need to migrate to a new platform or not ? Also you need
to decide which version of Windows you want to migrate ? SBS version ? or Non SBS versions ( I mean other than SBS family).

  • Connecting MBA to our small business server 2003

    Hi guys,
I just got a new 13inch MBA. I would like to use this at work for my exchange server email etc.
How do I put the MBA onto our .local domain and we use a VPN for remote connectivity?
This is my first MacBook so I'm finding my feet with the whole macbok and how it works.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

I have specific errors listed below:
Actually, I have been encountering similar problems.  I have an end user who wants to connect to an SBS 2003 server, and can not connect/use RWW because the Active X will not work, cannot use the VPN in PPTP mode because Windows 8 disallows the connection
("Error 942: The connection could not be established because the authentication method used by your connection profile is not permitted for use by an access policy configured on the RAS/VPN server."), and cannot use an L2TP VPN connection because it requires
a certificate "Error 766: A certificate could not be found. Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSEC require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate.".  I attempted to utilize the SBS Connection Tool downloaded
from RWW, but it fails with a proxy error ("Unable to execute custom script (Configure proxy settings for IE). Required file could be missing." - likely due to the PPTP tunnel it tries to use). I went so far as to install the Enterprise CA on the server, installed
    the Hotfix
(KB922706) so that the website could be accessed from Vista and above, and installed the requested certificate.  The VPN fails to connect after
it times out and fails to negotiate a connection.  This last one is "Error 789: L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer
encountered a processing error during the initial negotiations with the remote computer."
I have screenshots to share if anyone cares to see.  I really just get the feeling that Microsoft is trying to kill SBS 2003 by ingoring it into oblivion.
The VPN works fine with Windows 7 clients by the way.

  • Ethernet connection issue with iMac, OS 10.6.6

I can no longer connect to another iMac on our network that is running OS 10.6.6 from my iMac running OS 10.6.6 via Ethernet. It was fine until a couple days ago. I can connect to other iMacs running 10.5.x on the network via Ethernet, but not the 10.6.6 machine. I can connect to the 10.6.6 machine via wireless. Assuming it is not the cable because I can connect to the 10.5 machines. I have not done any software updates or other installs on either 10.6.6 machine.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

    It's easy!
In iPhoto, click on the photo in question.  Then go to the Photo pull-down menu and select "Duplicate".  I've highlighted it with a red arrow in the below picture.  iPhoto then will make a copy of the photo in question.  It will have the same name as the original photo, but will have the word "copy" added to the end.
At that point, just double-click on the copy of the picture.  The copy will open in Elements.  Do whatever work you want - on this copy.  When you are done, just save it back into iPhoto.
At that point, you have two copies of the picture in iPhoto.  There's the original picture, and there's the copy (with the word "Copy" in the title).
If you forget to make a copy of the picture, and find yourself in Elements working on the original picture, DO NOT save the changed picture back into iPhoto.  You would lose the original picture.  Use the "Save As" command to save the changed picture to the desktop.  Change the name so it includes the word "copy".  Then re-import it back into iPhoto.
Do not try to use the Elements "Save As" command to save the changed picture back into iPhoto.  You can do it, but iPhoto won't know the changed picture is there.  (I've done it, unfortunately.)  Since the changed picture isn't in the iPhoto index, iPhoto won't be able to produce the picture in the future.  You can use the Open Recently Edited File command in Elements to open this picture, and re-save it to the desktop.   Change the name so it includes the word "copy".  Then re-import it back into iPhoto.

  • Connecting to Windows Small Business Server

I need some help getting my iMac connected to a Windows Small Business Server (SBS). Our office is located in another building that runs a SBS with multiple Windows XP clients. I have a new Intel based iMac located in my house that is getting it's internet access through a linksys access point that is connected to the SBS (the SBS is assigning my iMac a local IP address - DNS server). I have no problems sending email and access the internet from the iMac. On the SBS side of things, I set up a new account on the SBS for the iMac (user name and password). The problem I'm having is when I go to Networks on the iMac, click on the server's name and type in the account information it tells my the alias is not valid. Any help would be great or a link to some web information with direction would be appreciated. Thanks,
    Mark

Did you recently upgrade the firmware of the TC?
The new firmware includes a vpn for the BTMM but it is not accessible to users.
I suggest if you port forward the required ports in the TC it should work but the best idea might be to go back a firmware. 7.5.2 works much better with the older TC anyway.

  • Can't connect to Small Business Server 2003 via Active Directory

I have done lots of searching, both in these forums and the wider internet, and cannot find a solution to my specific problem.
I am trying to connect my G5 (10.3.9) to a Windows network. We have a Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 with Active Directory. The PCs have no problem using this, and I can connect to shares setup on the server via AFP.
But I am having problems when I try to configure the AD plug-in in Directory Access on the Mac. When I click 'Bind', I enter the Server's Administrator username & password and when I click 'OK', it gets to Step 3 of 5 "Verifying Credentials". It ticks away at this step for about 30 seconds, then comes up with error message saying "Invalid user name and password combination."
I have tried other users with admin privileges, but they don't work either. I know the usernames and passwords aren't invalid, because I created them. I have tried fiddling around with other settings in the AD setup, but nothing gets any further.
Without any other 3rd party software (that's my final option), is there something I need to check/change, either on the Mac or the server, to make this Mac to authenticate via AD? Please help!

Hi Andbrowny, thanks for your response.
Your advice didn't really help my Active Directory problem (AD doesn't require SMB does it?), but it gave me some progress on my SMB problem. I can connect via AFP, but previously when I tried to connect via SMB, it kept coming up with the error "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct".
Now, after changing the policies on the server, I get an error -43 message saying "The operation could not be completed because one or more required items cannot be found."
So now I have two problems! SMB is not finding something it needs, and Active Directory is not "verifying credentials".
Actually, I have three problems: When I am connected via AFP, filenames over 31 characters long are truncated on the server, and I can't copy long filenames onto the server without renaming them. I have read that SMB would fix this to a degree (256 characters for the complete file path), but is there anything (a protocol or software) that allows long filenames to be read/written with ease?
Side note: The server is not 100% configured, the bloke installing it still has some work to do, but Active Directory works for all the XP machines, and I can connect to each XP workstation with SMB.

  • Connecting to Small Business Server 2003

I have an iMac G5 connected to a Windows Small Business Server 2003 server.
When we first set this up, there was some security toggle that had to be adjusted on the Windows server.
Recently the server completely crashed and when it was set up again I can't now get access to files on the server. I can't find the Apple document that described which setting on the SBS 2003 configuration needed to be changed.
Can anyone point me to those instructions?
    Thanks for the help!

    Hi Sam*
    Welcome Back to Apple Discussions!
A couple of questions, do you have any PC's connecting to the shares okay?
The Security tab on a folder lists all the users and their access level.
The Sharing tab lists all the "sharing" permissions to a given directory.
I usually always set this to Everyone and Full. I control access with the Security tab.
The default setting for W2003 with shared directories is to have the sharing permissions set to read only.
    This is easy to overlook.
If this is not your situation, please provide more info.
    Thank you.
