Compensation for loss of Internet

Do BT offer compensation for loss of your Internet conection if the fault is on their network, if so how many days loss of internet service is the minimum you can claim for, and do you actually have to file a claim or is this done automatically ? tia.

Not for Residential Broadband customers, only Business ones.
You can claim back daily line rental charges. See Customer service guarantee
You would have to prove actual financial loss, but that would only apply to a business, which you are not allowed to operate on a residential broadband line.

• How do I go about claiming compensation for loss o...

Since the middle of April we have had significant disruption with our broadband which dropped several times a day. After several calls to BT and new filters plus a new Hub we were then left with an ever increasing crackling line. We bought a new set of handsets and phone and still no better. Then no landline at all for about 6 days when an engineer fixed the problem free of charge this week - although we still get crackling. I feel that due to all the inconvenience and poor service we have suffered that we should receive compensation.

Hi
Unless you can provide proof of actual financial loss you can only get back any rental that you would have paid if your service has not been restored after the end of the 3rd working day.
I believe line rental is about 50p a day so do expect 100s.

• Possible fix for loss of internet!!!

The other threads were getting a little out of hand so I wanted to start fresh. It seems as though there are a lot of possible root causes for the internet connection drop problem. I have applied this fix to two computers with success. It may not work for you, but it's easy to try and won't screw everything up. Please mention if it works for you!

Glad it worked for you, but I happen to like my Firewire port for backing up my macbook, I also like using a external Bluetooth mouse and occasionally the built-in ethernet port, so removing any one of those items isn't really an option for me.
I tried to rationalize why doing this would help. Removing those network ports logically indicates doing so may be releasing an interupt making it available for another device like the Airport card.
This would NOT surprise me as I have seen numerous Interrupt errors in the past related to a dysfunctional Airport connection but that was with 10.5.5.
You would have to study your System Profiler system.log log file carefully for those errors, I tried to search for one in my current log file but couldn't find any.
Theoretically, you should be able to add those items back in one-by-one and rebooting between. Your active network connection should remain on top with highest priority.
But you would think there would be enough interrupts to assign one to each of those devices. Look for interrupt assignment errors in your system.log.
But I use on occasion the Maintenance utility downloaded from Apple to clean cache and rebuild the services or daemon database. This may be why I don't have any hardware interrupt conflicts.

• No compensation for BT fault and loss of service??...

Hi All,
I have been with BT for years and years now and to be honest havent had that many problems with them.....except now!
Friday 15th June 2012 I called home from my mobile to be greeted with the message that the line was in use and could try later (something along those lines). I immediatly knew something was wrong as no one was at home to be on the phone. I continued to try to ring home through the afternoon to be greeted with the same message. When I arrived home that evening I tried to call the line again from my mobile whilst standing in front of the phone to get the same message. When I picked the phone up, there was a dead tone, no dial tone nothing. My first thought was that the phone, which had now started to have seen better days, was in need of being replaced. Unfortunatly as I didnt get paid for another week I had no option but to wait until I could buy a new handset, luckily I had my mobile for emergencies. On 26th June, I brought a new handset through the BT shop. When it arrived the next day I charged it for a bit then plugged it in...nothing!. Still no dial tone or working handset. I called BT faults dept to report the phone. The man went through the basics with me and was adamant there was no fault showing on the line check. After me having to advise I have done all the checks AND brought a new handset did he agree to send an engineer round to the house. This was only after telling me that if the fault did lay with me I would br charged £99. The engineer was booked for Saturday 30th June. The engineer came (out of his time slot) and wow what a miserable engineer he was. As I have not long paid to have my house re carpeted, I advised him that he would either have to remove his work boots or put the blue overalls over the soles. He had a good old moan about it before he went and changed his work boots to slip on shoes to remove when entering the house again. I advised the engineer what was the query and he tested the box on the wall. He advised that the line was showing as working fine and it was strange that I had no telephone service but I had working internet. He then did some other stuff and told me the line fault was was at the exchange and would need a specialist engineer to look at it. He said he would go and have a look at the green cab across the road and contact me on my mobile to let me know what was happening. I never did receive a call so waited in for an hour not knowing if I should leave the house or not.
After looking at the fault tracking online on the Monday it stated the fault should have been resolved on Saturday 30th. This clearly was the case. Through the week, it took me 6 phone calls to find out what was happening re my line and when it would be working. I was advised by a manager that she was looking after the query and she would be updating me through the time the line was not in service........never did I get 1 call to advise me what was going on.
Eventually on Thursday 5th July the phone was fixed and I was able to use it again. On Thursday evening, I called BT faults line to find out about compensation as I had been out of service for nearly 3 weeks. The man on the line advised that he would refund me back the cost of the line rental as compensation. I advised that this would not be acceptable as I should be refunded that anyway for loss of the line not working, Im not paying for something I cant use. I said I wasnt happy and wanted to speak to a manager. The man went away and got his manager who advised that the most he could offer as compensation was £10. I told him that I found that a joke as for 3 weeks I had had no service, had purchased a new phone, used my mobile and used my time to chase up a fault. I declined the offer of £10 and said I would contact Head Office. On Friday 6th July 2012 I emailed the high level complaints team and as of today have had no response.......Im absolutly disgusted at this. I would like for someone to look into this matter and contact me back as a matter of urgency in regards to a sensible offer of compensation.
I look forward to hearing from someone soon!
Kind Regards
Michelle McCabe

• Loss of internet connectivity after upgrading to windows 8.1

Hi, After upgrading to windows 8.1 from windows 8 i am experiencing major problems , loss of internet connectivity for no reason both I.E. and G/CHROME are now taking an age to open there are no virus issues as far as i can see.
I have uninstalled and re-installed windows 8.1 about four times over the past 9 months or so and the same thing happens after all the updates are in it runs like a dream for say 6weeks or so then i get the same faults as described above then i uninstall/ re-install ok for 6 weeks .
I would apprieate any help or advice thanks

Hi @BMATH
Thank you your query.
I understand that after updating to Windows 8.1 about every 6 weeks you loose wireless connectivity for no reason and the web pages are very slow to open. If you uninstall and reinstall Windows 8.1 it works fine again for about the same amount of time. You have done this about 4 times with the same result each time.
Do you know if there is any changes at that time , perhaps an update?
You stated you do not believe you have any viruses. Just to be sure here are two links that will help confirm that.

• Cannot see Time Capsule for backup but internet perfect A

I've seen other posts about time capsule problems and most talk about wireless dropout and loss of internet connectivity. My situation is almost the reverse:
Full airport strength in menu bar. Full access to internet sites on at least one computer. Cannot see Time Capsule via Airport Utility or in Finder on any computer. Time Machine backups fail (marked as Delayed in menu bar item).
If I reboot (via unplugging) the Time Capsule, it shows up again in Airport Utility and backups are successful. This has happened three times now. I think the first time was prior to upgrading the firmware. The second two times were after the Time Capsule firmware upgrade. In the second two instances, it looks like the backups run for about 12-13 hours, every hour. No problems. Then, they drop out. Yesterday, it ran from 8:30 AM until 9 PM.
I've got two Macs (a Powerbook G4 and a MacBook Pro), each running latest software updates (security, 10.5.2, etc.).
Unplugging (rebooting) my Time Capsule each day is not an option. That's partly why I moved from an ancient LinkSys router that always needed to be rebooted since we lost local and internet access. Any help is much appreciated!
Cheers,
Drew

Have you set up the TC with user accounts??
Most people just use the TC password..
I have done very little with user accounts on the TC.. it seems fundamentally wrong headed to me.. If you have a domain controller with everyone using accounts to login that is fine.. and the TC would then exist in connection to the domain controller.. but it is a home device and there is no function to all that.
What will happen if you change over to standard security or even turn on the guest account I am too scared to suggest as you may not easily get connection back again.. The TC certainly displays a warning going to accounts.. I am not sure of warnings going away from accounts.
If you didn't setup the TC, do you have admin access to it??
Perhaps I am assuming too much before you tell me everything. But I may suggest things you don't want to try.. unfortunately I cannot say this will work.. the issue is widespread across the Mountain Lion TC combo and I have yet to see Apple suggest a solution or even fess up there is a problem. Daily reboots are just simply now a part of the scene for all windows and Mac users.
Is the TC the main router for the network.. 1 hour is not default lease in the TC and very few people even know how to change it.. standard is 1day. I would consider 1hr adequately short for all arp tables to be kept up to date.. the computer should be seeking new lease at 30min.. ie half lease time.
If the TC is bridged an not controlling the network.. that can contribute to the issue.
Setting a static IP on the TC if it is bridged my help.

• Claim compensation for Apple's product and service

My iphone 4S can't power up, I send it to depot detection,
It takes me nearly one month, from Jan 27th until now.
I can't use phone for one month, and my data on the phone is gone.
I bought the iphone only for 4 months.
Can I claim compensation?

Yes, Apple did tell me that when I request service, the data is gone.
But did you think about that? how can I do?
Not repair it? It's not my fault that the phone can't power up.
Why should I take responsibility for this?
I was not given a phone to use for nearly one month, the reason is that there's no phone left.
Why can't I claim compensation for my loss?

• Vexing intermittent loss of Internet

For about six weeks now I have been experiencing a troubling intermittent loss of Internet service. It's like on, off, on, off, on, off, etc. It changes minute to minute. I click on a link and get a message saying the web site can't be reached, try reloading.
Then I'll click on the link and Internet is back. Three or four minutes later its on again, then off again, etc.
I'm on my third or fourth modem/wireless router, the last one being installed by a Verizon tech. When the problem continued they sent another tech who replaced my ONT. Still the problem persists.
This loss of Internet occurs when using my hard wired desktop and wireless laptops used by me and others in the house.
Don't know what to do next except maybe go back to Cablevision.
We're talking northern Westchester County, N.Y.

I'm sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

• Intermittent loss of internet connection on Homehu...

Hi Everyone
I have recently taken out a new contract with BT and connected my new Homehub 4 on the 14th February. Seemly it was okay for at least 5 days then I started to experience some intermittent loss of internet on all of the devices, i.e PC, laptop, xbox, it effected both wired and wireless. The hub was showing orange light, which then prompt me to press the reset/restart button on top of the hub.
I have try out my old Homehub 1 for 3 days to see if it effected that one too, but the hub 1 was perfect in term of no loss of connection for 3 day.
Then I connect homehub 4 again on Fri 28th February it was okay for a day, except on 1st march in the morning hub seem to disconnect/reconnect itself. Then around 2310 pm I have loss all connection to the internet through all of my devices again.
Does anyone know what this problem is? It is to do with BT-Wifi Fon, or is the hub 4 faulty and need replacing?
Many Thanks

It was orange central broadband light, there were no other light showing on the silver part.
I have not tried test socket yet, however, I did have a new master socket and line replaced couple year ago, so it would have the new faceplate on there. Plus, the external line etc must be working since hub 1 was working perfectly.
Here the information from speed test

• Unexpected shutdowns and loss of internet connectivity on brand new 420t

Hi,
I was experiencing unexpected shutdowns (would see safe mode choices when turned PC back on) and also intermittent internet connectivity issues.
To Fix:
In device manager, I turned off the option in the Realtek Network Controller Power management tab to allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
It's been working like a charm so far (2 days). I'm not so sure HP should be building PCs with this option set. There are no updates that I haven't installed either. PC still sleeps (can see nic lights go off) and wakes up just fine.
Other that that we really like this PC...Beats Audio wasn't impressive with only the internal speakers, then I tried a good set of external tweeters and a subwoofer and then it was realized.
Hope this helps someone.

Troy,
Thanks for the suggestion. It sounds like you've heard that others have had this problem. Is that right?
And are you suggesting that the kernel panics and the loss of Internet connection are related? They often happen independently of one another.
Claire

• I am using the Order Analysis Toolkit and want to get more information about the compensation for "Reference Signal Processing", which is scarce in the manuals, the website and the examples installed with the toolkit.

I am using the Order Analysis Toolkit and want to get more information about the compensation for "Reference Signal Processing", which is scarce in the manuals, the website and the examples installed with the toolkit.
In particular, I am analyzing the example "Even Angle Reference Signal Processing (Digital Tacho, DAQmx).vi", whose documentation I am reproducing in the following:
DESCRIPTIONS:
This VI demonstrates how to extract even angle reference signals and remove the slow-roll errors. It uses DAQmx VIs to acquire sound or vibration signals and a digital tachometer signal. This VI includes a two-step process: acquire data at low rotational speed to extract even angle reference; use the even angle reference to remove the errors in the vibration signal acquired at normal operation.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Run the VI.
2. On the DAQ Configurations tab, specify the sample rate, samples per channel, device and channel configurations, and tachometer channel information.
NOTE: You need to use DSA PXI-447x/PXI-446x and PXI TIO device in a PXI chassis to run this example. The DSA device must be in slot 2 of the PXI chassis.
3. Switch to Extract Even Angle Reference tab. Specify the number of samples to acquire and the # of revs in reference which determines the number of samples in even angle reference. Click Start to take a one-shot data acquisition of the vibration and tachometer signals. After the acquisition, you can see the extracted even angle references in Even Angle Reference.
4. Switch to the Remove Slow-roll Errors tab. Click Start to acquire data continuously and view the compensate results. Click Stop in this tab to stop the acquisition.
ORDER ANALYSIS VIs USED IN THIS EXAMPLE:
1. SVL Scale Voltage to EU.vi
2. OAT Digital Tacho Process.vi
3. OAT Get Even Angle Reference.vi
4. OAT Convert to Even Angle Signal.vi
5. OAT Compensate Even Angle Signal.vi
My question is: How is the synchronization produced at the time of the compensation ? How is it possible to eliminate the errors in a synchronized fashion with respect to the surface of the shaft bearing in mind that I am acquired data at a low rotation speed in order to get the "even angle reference" and then I use it to remove the errors in the vibration signal acquired at normal operation. In this application both operations are made in different acquisitions, therefore the reference of the correction signal is lost. Is it simply compensated without synchronizing ?
Our application is based on FPGA and we need to clarity those aspects before implementing the procedure.

• Got charged full retail for a new phone instead of Edge Up, wiped out bank account, had to refuse shipment, no compensation for the time spent talking to 14 representatives over the phone in the last week, and still no refund??

On 9/29 I ordered an iPhone 6 Plus 128GB as an edge up from my 5S, swiped my card at the store to pay the Edge Up fee, and was told 10/31 was the expected ship date.
Didn't see the order on my My Verizon account, spoke with 3 representatives on the phone to actually get the order number so I could track it.
On 10/24 the ship date disappeared and I called to find out there was an issue with the payment. I gave them my debit card number over the phone for the Edge Up amount, and they charged me full retail -- OVER $1,000.
They promised it wouldn't post to my account and it wouldn't ship after cancelling the order. Next day it shipped. I called FedEx and refused the package over the phone.
I called when the payment posted the next day, totally wiping out my bank account and charging me overdraft fees.
They said they'd push for a refund immediately -- on Sunday, 10/24. It's now 10/30, I see no refund, I have no phone, and I have over $100 in bank fees from their mistake.
I spoke with a supervisor on the phone and they said they could refund the bank fees, but would do nothing for the fact that they screwed up my order, and told me it would be another 2-3 weeks before they actually ship a phone to me if I ordered today.
Sorry, but that's NOT good customer service. I can buy out my Edge agreement, sell the phone on eBay, and go to another carrier pretty easily. I don't want to leave Verizon's service, but I don't really see how they value me as a customer?
Does anyone else have some idea of what I could do about this whole thing??
TL;DR -- Verizon charged full retail for a phone instead of Edge Up fee, still no refund, no compensation for the inconvenience and stress they caused, and another 2-3 week wait on a phone I ordered a month ago.

That situation went from inconvenient to complicated quickly. Wait for any pending orders to drop off, wait for things to clear up, wait till your upgrade comes up and then upgrade when your contract is fulfilled. I would have suggested a replacement phone, I know, with only a month left why couldn't you just upgrade early, but these situations where people try to upgrade early always end horribly and once a phone order starts, it almost cannot finish until something winds up shipped received and returned. Sorry this happened the way it did. Definitely not efficient.

I have had my iPod Touch 2G 16GB since the day it came out over 2 years ago. Upon the release of IOS5, I began to wonder, since my iPod can no longer recieve updates past 4.2.1 (due to hardware reasons), can I be compensated for not recieving new updates and thus, being shut out from being able to do / use special applications that require a certain firmware such as iCloud? Also, is it possible to trade in my current iPod for a 4th Generation Touch that is able to receive the new updates? Thanks!

no and no.
