Compiling Multiple Jar Files

Hello,
I have an application that I have been asked to take over and finish. This application has several jar files, but I only need to alter code that resides in one of the jar files. How do I recompile my code that is also dependant on the other jar files? Do I need to unjar everything recompile my code and then jar everything back up OR can I just leave the jars that don't need altered as is and recompile the one jar file by itself? Thanks,
Kelly

Thanks for the help, I'm having a bit of difficulty getting the command correct. Let's say I have:
one.jar
two.jar
three.jar
I unjarred one.jar and made some changes to x.java.
I typed in:
javac -cp /path/two.jar /path/three.jar /path/x.java
but it's not working. Thanks in advance!

  • Need help compiling external jar files into my one jar file from cmd line

Here is my problem, let me see if I can explain it right:
I am making a jar file on my development computer that will run my java project. In this java project, it references a couple Java3D jar files. On my development computer, I create the jar file and it runs correctly, but when I move that jar file over to the test computer, the parts of the application needing those Java3D jars are not found in my jar I created. I isolated the problem and it is because those Java3D jar files I needed are not on my test machine. But that is the way I need it to be. I need it so that when I compile all my code on the development machine, I need it to also compile those two Java3D files into my one jar that I move to the test machine. You get what I'm saying? I must do all the compiling from the command line and have only one jar file to put on the test machine that contains all my compiled code and the two Java3D files needed to run some of the applications in the project.
Here a brief sample of what I'm doing:
To compile my java files in my project, I simply to this for all my files:
    javac file.java
javac file2.java... and so on for all my java files.
Then I create my jar file:
    jar -cfm MyJar.jar manifest.mf file.class
jar -fmu MyJar.jar manifest.mf file2.class... and so on for all my class files.
Also when compiling my jar file, I do this thinking that it would include the two Java3D jars into my one jar file:
    jar -fmu MyJar.jar manifest.mf jars/j3d-org-images.jar
    jar -fmu MyJar.jar manifest.mf jars/j3d-org.jar
My manifest file looks something like this:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: Main
    Class-Path: jars/j3d-org.jar jars/j3d-org-images.jar
Do I have to have that Class-Path in there pointing to those jar files? Those jar files will not exist on my test machine because the directory structure will not be the same. I've tried a manifest without specifying my Class-Path to those jar files, but I get the same problem when I run my application on the part that needs the Java3D files.
The error I am getting is that there is a RasterTextLabel class inside one of those Java3D jar files that my application cannot access because those jar files are not on my test machine.
So basically what I really need to know is how I get those two Java3D jar files compiled into my one jar file that I move to a test machine and run with the following command:
    java -jar MyJar.jar
    Can anyone help me??
    Thanks.

Here what you need is to have all the files present in a single jar file, and the classpath is set properly to the required jar files.
    Do the following in steps:
    1)
Create a custom manifest file, say mymanifest.mf, with the following contenets, put it in current directory:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Created-By: 1.4.0_01 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)
    main-Class: Main
    Class-Path: jars/j3d-org.jar jars/j3d-org-images.jar <press ENTER key>
    2)
    jar -cfm MyJar.jar manifest.mf file.class
jar -fmu MyJar.jar manifest.mf file2.class... and so on for all class files.
    3)
    jar -fmu MyJar.jar manifest.mf jars/j3d-org.jar
    jar -fmu MyJar.jar manifest.mf jars/j3d-org-images.jar
(Make sure that j3d-org-images.jar and j3d-org.jar are present in a subdirectory called 'jars')
Now you would be able to run,
    java -jar myjar.jar

  • Including multiple jar files to applet

In one of my application I am using severla third party apis (JavaHelp, JFreeReport, NanoXml ...) which comes as a seperate jar file each.
Is there is a way that I can include these multiple jar files to be downloaded automaticaly when the applet is starting.
currently I am extracting all the jar files and then re compressing them in to one file and place it in the archive property in the applet tab.
Is there a way I can avoid extraction and recompression and directly use the jar files

    <param nama="archive" value="myjar.jar, myOtherjar.jar" />
You could try to create an installer that wil put the 3rd party jars in the users lib/ext directory.

  • Compile a jar file

I hope this is in the right forum.
I have make some changes to a jar file, but now when I want to compile it it gives me an error "Path not found.
The bat with my code and the jar file is in the same folder.
Here are my code, I think it is correct.
    "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin\jar.exe" cfm C:\Bybel\Afrikaans.jar META-INF\MANIFEST.MF

No the Manifest,mf file is in the jar fileSo why are you naming it on the command line?
I did make a folder Manifest and put the file manifest.mf in the folder.Yet on the command line you didn't say Manifest/MANIFEST.MF. You said META-INF/MANIFEST.MF. Which won't work, because according to this it doesn't exist.
that I need to compileYou don't compile JAR files. You create them.
it I just make a jar file and load it into the phone it gives compile error. The phone has a compiler in it?
You seem to be using the word 'compile' pretty indiscrimately.

  • Compile multiple source files

sorry, this is maybe a newbie question.
but iI have a problem compiling an application that use multiple sources files
    for exemple
the class A is in the file 1
the class B is in the file 2
class A uses an instance of the class B
class B uses an instance of the class A
so i'm unable to compile these files coz each one tells me he doesn't know about the other
Is there a way to define prototypes of class or fonctions before their use like in C/C++?
Or is there another way i didn"t pay attention
    thanks all

This is a minimal explanation of packages. For a full explanation of packages and how to compile and run Java programs, see this page:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/tooldocs/tools.html
and read the Setting the Classpath and the How Classes are Found topics.
Assume that your programs are part of a package named myapp, which is specified by this first line in each source file:
    package myapp;
Also assume that directory (C:\java\work\) is listed in the CLASSPATH list of directories.
Also assume that all your source files reside in this directory structure: C:\java\work\myapp\
Then a statement to compile your source file named aProgram.java is:
    C:\java\work\>javac myapp\aProgram.java
And a statement to run the program is:
    java myapp.aProgram
(This can be issued from any directory, as Java will search for the program, starting the search from the classpath directories.)
    Explanation:
    Compiling
A class is in a package if there is a package statement at the top of the class.
The source file needs to be in a subdirectory structure. The subdirectory structure must match the package statement. The top subdirectory must be in the classpath directory.
So, you generate a directory structure C:\java\work\myapp\ which is the [classpath directory + the package subdirectory structure], and place aProgram.java in it.
Then from the classpath directory (C:\java\work\) use the command: javac myapp\aProgram.java
    Running
Compiling creates a file, aProgram.class in the myapp directory.
(The following is where people tend to get lost.)
The correct name now, as far as java is concerned, is the combination of package name and class name: myapp.aProgram (note I omit the .class) If you don't use this name, java will complain that it can't find the class.
To run a class that's NOT part of a package, you use the command: java SomeFile (assuming that SomeFile.class is in a directory that's listed in the classpath)
To run a class that IS part of a package, you use the command java myapp.aProgram (Note that this is analogous to the command for a class not in a package, you just use the fully qualified name)

    with regards,

I think he/she means that when they compile the
classes wit javac and run the main class with java it
works. But when they build a jar file it doesn't run
    the main classthats right.
The manifest file has a carraige return.

    Hi,
I have multiple java files which are present in different folders.
In some cases, files are importing classes from other packages i.e. some kind of inter-dependency
How do I compile these java files simultaneously?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Is it circular?
    Thus the dependency is A => B => C => A?

  • Multiple jar files from different locations

    Hello,
I am having an applet that access code from two different jar files. Of them one is a common jar file for many applets. So I couldn't place it in the local dir as that of the applet's html. I am not using any web server.
Just to give you a feel of it :
<PARAM NAME = archive VALUE = "DVApplet.jar,DVVP.jar" > are the jar files my applet is dependant on. But DVVP.jar has to be accessed from a dir different from local dir.

  • Splash screen with progress bar and multiple jar files to load

    Hello,
I have been looking to the new features in java 6 for splash screens. I haven't implemented this never before and i was wondering how i could do the following with java 1.5 or 6:
I would like to see a splash screen with a progress bar that "grows" when every jar file has been read.
At this time i call my application like this from a shell script:
    exec "$JAVA_BIN" -Djava.library.path=$LIBRARIES_J3D -classpath xxxx.jar yyyy.jar zzzz.jar ...
where xxx.jar, yyy.jar and zzz.jar are very heavy jars.
So i would like to see in the progress bar 33% 66% and 100% when they are loaded.
I do not know if this is the right forum to ask for this. If no, please point me which would be the ideal one.
Any help will be very useful. Thanks to all!

  • How to sign multiple jar files using the same certificate..?

    hi,
I want to run my application using Java Web Start.. i am using around 16 different jar files out of which around 13 are 3rd party component jars. I want to sign these jars using the same certifcate..., i am using the follwing code to sign the jars:
    (for the jar file ischeduler.jar)
keytool -genkey -alias signFiles91 -keystore dtss -keypass dtss1351 -dname "cn=dtss" -storepass decisioncraft
jarsigner -keystore dtss -storepass decisioncraft -keypass dtss1351 -signedjar signedischeduler.jar ischeduler.jar signFiles91
keytool -export -keystore dtss -storepass decisioncraft -alias signFiles91 -file ischeduler.cer
keytool -import -alias DCA2 -file ischeduler.cer -keystore Impischeduler -storepass ischeduler
    (for the jar file ischedulerclient.jar)
keytool -genkey -alias signFiles92 -keystore dtss -keypass dtss1351 -dname "cn=dtss" -storepass decisioncraft
jarsigner -keystore dtss -storepass decisioncraft -keypass dtss1351 -signedjar signedischedulerclient.jar ischedulerclient.jar signFiles92
keytool -export -keystore dtss -storepass decisioncraft -alias signFiles92 -file ischeduler.cer
keytool -import -alias DCA3 -file ischeduler.cer -keystore Impischeduler -storepass ischeduler
but when i use the above signed jars in my application i get an error saying:
"jars not signed by the same certificate"
can someone plz tel me wher is the error....thanx
    andy

Well for mulitple signing of jar files you can use ANT tool. Its easier and faster.
Regarding the present problem -- hmm.. well it looks like you are using 2 different alias names for signing the jar file. Try using the same alias name and that might solve your problem.

use as the following way to resolve the problem:
    (1) use separate lines, to avoid too long a line for java package name lists
    (2) type a preceding space before each folloing lines, for example:

    ...jar ..jar

    Question:
Can ejb in one jar file can call another ejb (available in another jar file)? Second ejb is using local interfaces.

Yes, if both ejb-jars are packaged within the same .ear file. A web component can also access the local interface of an ejb if the two modules are packaged within the same .ear file.

working “.cp” file) and this causes problems when
outputting, they tell me at Captivate support, that weird
corruptions happen. I tried removing the audio from the Flash after
synchronizing the audio to screen activity, then saving a non-audio
version, then importing it into Captivate, then importing the audio
into Captivate. Make sure to check Options/Synchronize to project
when you import the .swf. That solved the problem for me. Good
    luck!

  • How do you compile multiple class files in a unix cmd prompt?

I have been using Java for a few years now, but for some reason I have a course that requires us to compile/run and hand-in our java assignments using Unix...
I know how to compile a simple program on unix with a single source file, but how the heck do you compile and run a program with say... 2 or more sources files linked together?
I really doubt the answer is just type
    javac java1.java
    javac java2.java
    javac java3.java
and then running the source file with the main in it.
Hopefully someone here can help me.
    Thanks
    Roger

okay, well I took some time to read up online how to do this and I guess i'll answer my own post just in case someone else wants to know the answer.
    2 ways I found were:
1)For example, you can list all of the source file names in a file named sourcefiles. This file might look like:
    MyClass1.java
    MyClass2.java
    MyClass3.java
You could then run the compiler with:
    % javac @sourcefiles
2)Or if all the files are in the same directory you can do this:
This example compiles all the source files in the package greetings.
    % ls
    greetings/
    % ls greetings
    Aloha.java GutenTag.java Hello.java Hi.java
    % javac greetings/*.java
If that is confusing to read I found all the answers from this webpage:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/tooldocs/solaris/javac.html
