Complete range of Pulse-Width Measurement

Hi,
I am having an issue with PW Measurement,
I need to read a Duty cycle in a percentage range from 0% to 100%. The
problem I have is the signal has not crossed the mid reference level
enough times to measure, or the histogram cannot be used because the amplitude is zero. This is
obvious, yes, because there is no pulse, it is essentially all true or
all false at these two extremes, but the pulse Measurement vi cannot handle this. Is there
another way I could measure duty cycle, so that I can see if there is a
low (0%) or High (100%), and everything in-between without errors? Even when I measure the PulseWidth in the peak method, rather than the histogram method, which gives me more time to stay at 0 or 100% before it gives an error, the measurement sees the signal as 50% duty cycle (once again obvious because it is neither hi nor low for any duration). So if I could even read 0% or 100 % without an error, how would I be able to block the two extremes from ever being read? My input is from the DAQ, so I cannot just "limit" my input signal at the source...
Any suggestions?

If you take a look at the help you will see that the rms will do a integration ;-) hint: in the discrete world an integration is a sum
From help: rms.vi
Computes the root mean square (rms) of the input sequence
X.
The rms(.vi) will give you a value proportional to the power
The mean(.vi) will give you a value proportional to the % PWM ( divide by V_max (12V) and multiply with 100 and you get a %PWM)
... this will only work exactly when you read exactly n periodes of your PWM, however the error gets smaller if you read longer...

It would be really good to understand your application a little more so that any specific needs that you have may be met. In the meantime, I would also suggest searching on ni.com for "pwm" or other keywords that relate to your application. You will see a faceted navigation on the left side that allows you to narrow your search for example code, tutorials, etc.

Problem in Number range

in FBN1, I have to delete a number range which is from 1 to 9999999999 ( complete range) and i am unable to create another range if i want to, as it is overlaping.

Passing the Date range within the query

In my query , I have two date characteristic, and while doing the selection I have to do selection on only one date field.
This selection is a date range selection , So I have used a selection variable for this.
Can anyone please let me know if it is possible to pass the selection range to other variable. Is it possible to use Customer exit to pass the complete range.

How to properly use tonal range definition?

Hello, I am surprised that I cannot find any resources on the tonal range definition anywhere on the internet. A lot of people touch on it but nobody actually shows you how to practically use it. I am coming from FCP 7 which I like better in color correction (there were less controls)
I assume you can define flesh tones as grey, highlights as white, and shadows as black. And then the midtone color wheel controls the grey area, hightlights wheel controls white area, and so on.
I am also using a panasonic GH3 which I have found there not to be much play in the dynamic range (as compared to EX1) It seems I only have maybe quarter stop of play in the highlights. Well thats another issue, but I would love some resources on better understanding the tonal range definition feature in three way color corrector.

Which version of PPro are you using? Do you have Speedgrade also? Or AfterEffects?
I've got a GH3 three, and also a D600 Nikon. LOVE working with the GH3 footage ... the D600's ok. Does either of them have the total dynamic depth of a Red or Arri? Um ... no. But precise metering and WB before exposure should give you a complete range to deal with in post afterwards. I'm not sure of your experience, but ... if you are planning on doing much "grading", as corrections of color/s-/tonality are called, you do want to shoot fairly "flat" as far as contrast settings in the camera. Most users of the GH3 ... no matter whether they use "Natural" or whatever as the base mode to shoot in ... set contrast to -1 to -4. In-studio stuff with very controlled lighting and exposure, -1 to maybe even 0 would be ok. Outside in bright light ... probably you're better of around -3 or -2 for contrast. Color ideas have changed a bit recently, at first "the Received Wisdom" was saturation at -4 or so, now ... a lot of us are moving to more -2 or thereabouts.
This gives you files that you can pretty much grade the Hades out of ... again, they don't have the total "depth" of a $20G camera. You don't have room enough to ignore tight WB and exposure to begin with. Take care of those, you can do amazing stuff with the files.
Now ... as to grading in PPro ... not the easiest. The three-way color corrector is used by a lot of people who work there, and it's good to get a handle on the settings that control where and when those wheels "work", whether on over-all, shadows, mids, highs. And yea, you kinda need to hunt for that and then play with it a while. I did NOT find that intuitive when I started with it. To be gentle of comment. In the CC versions there are better tools for grading in PPro, so yea ... it can be done. Read the books if you're going to grade there.
The Hurkman book referenced above is EXCELLENT ... as is Hullfish & Fowler's "Color Correction for Video" ... also sitting here by my monitor. Read through those two, you'll have a vastly deeper understanding of what happens in ANY program you grade in. They both talk about the typical controls and sub-controls in video grading programs. I found understanding some of the sub-controls that "limit" the effect of the dials and whatnot in PPRo to be more complicated than just going into Sg.
If you are on the CC apps, then you should also have access to Speedgrade and AfterEffects. Even on the pre-CC versions, you may have PPro & Ae ... a lot of people (like myself) did. Speedgrade is a grading program, period. And with the new direct-link from PPro in the CC versions, you don't "export" an edl or anything to go grade ... just click a menu item & your timeline opens in Sg. WAY cool. When you're done grading, you just click to go back to PPro and it saves the file and takes you back to PPro ... sweet. After reading the mentioned books, watching a LOT of lynda.com tutorials and some from Creative Cow and Adobe, I've found Sg to be a very handy program, like working in it very much EXCEPT for the poor utilization of the scopes, which ... well ... anyone who's read much of anything here or on the Sg forum knows about. Sigh. They're usable, if not optimal.
There are quite a few people who don't bother with Sg and instead prefer to grade in Ae. I found that possible but oh my ... my head hurts at all the options all it's controls have. It can do about anything, though. It works quite well for master-level graders who have tons of their own LUT's that they use as a "base" look for near anything they'll work. Shian Storm has his "Color Ghears" for that ... and they can do a huge amount on your "look" by just cliking one or the others within Ae. There's many places to get LUT's to expand your tool-set.

To give value ranges in web interface builder in a BPS application

I want to give value range for an info-object in web interface builder when selecting a value range variable , but the web application is displaying only the 'from' field and I am not able to get the place to give 'to' for a complete range.
Is there any other solution apart from creating an exit variable that reads from two other variables for 'from' and 'to'.

Hi Chauhan,
If you wish your user to input different values, then you have to provide "n" variables in the layout and read them in the exit variable! This method of reading user input is not adviced! Nevertheless, if you try solution described for first case, potentially in the range there could be "posting level" value(s) that was not wished.
If these values fall under some range, it is possible to display the layout filtered with these selections
For this you could provide two variables in the BSP-Selection section and in the BPS layout you would use a variable to type exit to read in the low and high values (that the user has selectedin BSP Page). In this way you could filter the contents of the layout with the multiple values for the "Posting level".

Range selection for Fix value variable in BPS

When create vaiable, there is a fix value variable, under selection condition, we can choose either multiple single value or range, however if we choose the range, let say mtareial number from 1 to 100, when we run the BPS application through UPSPL, the value for material variable will be populated with value 1 to 100, when I try to change the value to a single value,it's not allowed me to change, while the user define value type, we can change the value, Is this supposed to be?

BPS variables does not allow the choice of multiple single values, you can choose a single value OR a range of values. This issues has been brought up with SAP Development.
If you need single values or a complete range of values, you can add each single value as a fixed value and the range as another fixed value that can be selected. You can select each single value individually or the whole range (or any subranges you specified) but not multiple selections of single values.
In user definted variable if you check input allowed by users, you can add some values and the users can add more but then they could potentially go into material numbers they should not get access too.

I was wondering if maybe some of you have come across the following challenge and have already found a solution.
At my customer we are implementing R/3 warehouse management (LE-WM). We are going to implement handheld devices for the order pickers to enable them to pick using transport orders (T.O.).
Some of the materials they will pick have serial numbers and need to be registrated after the T.O. has been completed using transaction LM80
As the people will sometimes pick in bulk it is required that they should be able to scan the first and last serial number of a complete range and let the system fill in the blanks.
This is to save time and to be nice to the warehouse people. They would only need to scan 2 times instead of 50 times if they pick a whole pallet.
I would like to know if any of you have already come across this and how you handled this.

Firstly, considering the first and last serial numbers and filling in the rest is good. But the challenges will be as follows:
1. What happens if the difference between the first and last is too huge? The user will see a huge list of numbers.
2. What if some in-between serial numbers are consumed already?
One probable solution can be:
1. The system suggests the unconsumed serial numbers for picking based on the actual quantity that has to be picked.
2. The user can either choose these serial numbers or modify the list with scanning based on actual picks.
The solutions can be many based on the actual way the materials are organized in the warehouse.

Why Outlook email messages show unreadable characters

When you receive a new email in Outlook, you may see unreadable characters in the email message body. This issue could be caused by one of the following reasons on Outlook client side:
The email you received is converted to plain text format or a different encoding by a virus scanner.
This always happens when you are using characters (Such as apostrophes, double quotes, dashes, and ellipsis) supported by the "Smart Quotes" feature. When the email you received is converted to plain text format or a different encoding by a virus
scanner, the character is converted from the ASCII character to a Unicode character, which is not supported on the recipient’s side.
To prevent this issue from happening, we can turn off the “Smart Quotes” Feature in Outlook:
1. Open Outlook 2013.
2. Click File > Options > Mail.
3. Click Spelling and AutoCorrect button.
4. In the Editor Options window, click AutoCorrect Options button to open the AutoCorrect dialog.
5. Click AutoFormat tab, and then clear the check box before “Straight quotes” with “smart quotes” under Replace heading.
6. Click OK.
The issue may be related to font substitution when a change is made to the Web Options in Microsoft Word.
If a change is made to the Web Options in Microsoft Word, registry data under the following key may be configured incorrectly:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Internet\Fonts
This problem has been seen to occur when the Latin string value under the \Fonts key was empty (no value).
We can check the Web Options setting in Word via:
1. Start Word.
2. Go to File > Options > Advanced.
3. Scroll down to the General section, click Web Options button.
4. Switch to Font tab.
To resolve the problem, we need to delete the \Fonts registry key. To do this, please follow:
1. Exit Word.
2. Press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type regedit and press Enter.
3. Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Internet\Fonts
4. Right-click the Font key and select Delete.

1. Double-click to open the message you received.
2. Click Actions button in the Move group under Message tab.

5. After you finish reading the message, close the message, and click Yes button to save changes to the message.
When we send an email with Outlook, we can set Outlook to automatically select encoding for outgoing email messages to increase the possibility that the recipient receiving the message will see all the characters rendered properly, even if they run older
e-mail programs. By default, Outlook 2013 will automatically select an optimal encoding for outgoing e-mail messages. We can change the settings here in Outlook 2013: File > Options > Advanced > International Options section.
Something you may need to know when you set the encoding settings:
* The Unicode (UTF-8) character enables the complete range of characters on all computers. It’s the official IANA code for the UTF-8 character encoding.
* Western European (ISO) and Western European (Windows) character set can be read by almost all computers.
* If you are using a language other than English, you must choose the correct character set for that language, or the characters you need will not be displayed correctly.

MSI 865PE NEO2-V showing wrong RAM timings

I have a MSI 865PE NEO2-V motherboard with Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs now and try to put the timings of the RAM to 2-3-3-6 in the bios.
According to http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair...h_results.html it should work ok...but its not.
When i check the timings with CPU-Z it shows 3-4-4-8 instead.
The SPD is 3-3-3-8.
I have checked so they are in Dual channel and i have put the RAM voltage to 2.75V after i tried with the default voltage, but to no avail.
To be extra certain i ran Everest Ultimate and it showed the exact timings.
The RAM run fine with StressPrime and Prime95 but i get bad results in SiSoft Sandras RAM benchmarks.
What is going on????

Yeah, it get slow results.
I have a Intel Prescott 3.2Ghz with FSB800.
I see now that the link uses Java script, its in Corsairs search engine on their site.
Their recomendations for the set of RAM i have is: TWINX2048-3200C2 / DDR-400 (XMS-3200C2) / 2-3-3-6 .
I have tried to set the timings as you said but it still runs at 3-4-4-8 whatever i set it at.
I have it running at 2-3-3-6 on another motherboard so i think it must be some settings in the BIOS that i set wrong on this one, but i cant figure it out.
Could it be that somethings wrong with the Performance Mode (MAT) settings?
I tried it on and off, I have also reseted the BIOS to default and even removed the CMOS battery for a while.

System No Longer Requires Password to Wake from Sleep

Greetings all! My Mini has recently stopped asking me to supply a password when waking it from sleep. It goes into sleep with no problem, complete with the pulsing white LED. But when I wake the system (using either the keyboard or the power button), the system just wakes up without requesting authentication. In addition, if I leave the system idle for 15 or 20 minutes, the screen saver kicks in. Trouble is, settings in both "Energy Saver" and "Desktop & Screen Saver" are set to never sleep the display. (And it doesn't require a password to wake the display there either.)
I've tried unchecking and rechecking the "Require password..." option in "Security", I've tried rebooting, I've tried repairing priveleges. Nothing works. I do have a KVM switch hooked up to the system, but I don't think that's the culprit, as the system has required a password in the past with the KVM switch connected. In addition, I've had this problem occasionally in the past, and it usually comes up after I've installed a system update from Apple. In the past, it's just seemed to go away on its own, but I'd obviously like to fix it myself instead of letting it work itself out.
Anyone have any suggestions on perhaps trashing certain prefs files or anything else? Thanks!

I'd like to file a formal bug report with Apple, but I did not find any bug tracking system. Is the feedback program the only way to let Apple know there is a problem?? I'd prefer if I got some feedback on my problem report...

How to restrict the variables in BPS

Hi experts,
I have a problem with restricting the variables in the BPS function.
In the planning area, I have created a characteristics variable with user define value (input allowed by user) replacement type.
Yet, in the planning folder, it seems that I can only select either a single value (for example material 1000) or a range of values (for example material 1000 to 5000).
I can't choose several single values (for example 1005, 1020, 1030).
Since I need this functionality, do you maybe know how to solve this problem?

PIX 501 config - access to internal network not working from remote VPN users - everything on the inside is OK

One other thing - I had a problem with the key pairing so I rebuilt the rsa 1024 and the unit started working. Unfortunately I reloaded without the config in place and now I cannot get it to work again. Any help will be greatly apprecaited although I did review a dozen other posts of people having similar problems and for some reason there is never any conclusion as to the solution and I am not sure why.
Some other info from the client end:
I just ran the stats on the client and packets are being encrypted BUT none are decrypted.
Also Tunnel received 0 and sent 115119
Encryption is 168-bit 3-DES
Authentication is HMAC-SHA1
also even though the allow LAN is selected in the Cisco VPN client it states the local LAN is disabled in the client stats
also Transparent tunneling is selcted but in the stats it states it is inactive
I am connecting with the Cisco VPN Client Ver 5.0.07.0440
This config works. It is on the internal net 192.168..40.x and all users obtain dhcp and surf the web. It has required ports opened.The problem is that you can connect remotely via the VPN and you receive an IP address from the remote-vpn pool but you cannot see any machines on the internal network. The pix is at 40.2 and you cannot ping the pix and the pix from the remote PC connecting via the VPN and youcannot ping the remote PC from the PIX console when the remote is connected and receives the first IP address in the VPN pool of 192.168.40.25
I need to see the internal network and map network drives. I have another friend that is running the same config and it works but his computer is on a linksys wireless and has an IP of 192.168.1.x and the IP he receives from the VPN pool is 192.168.1.25 so I do not know if the same network is allowing this config to work even if there is an error in the config. In my present case I obtain the ip of 192.168.40.25 from the VPN pool and my connecting pc on 192.168.1.x I really am not sure how the VPN virtual adapter works. I am assuming it routes all traffic from your connecting PC to and from the virtual adapater but I really do not know for sure.
Other people have had similar issues with accessing the internal network from the VPN. One solution was the split-tunnel, another was the natting and another had to do with the encrption where there and an issue with the encrypt and ecrypt which was stopping the communicaton via the VPN.
I still cannot seem to find the issue with this config and any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have been searching docs and other people's postings trying to obtain the info to make this work. It appears pretty much boiler plate but I believe my problem is in the natting. I am using a range in the internal network for the VPN pool and I have tried switching this to other networks but this has not helped. Unfortunately I have been unable to get the PDM to work and I believe this is a PC config thing and I did not want to waste the time on it. I read a post where a person using the PDM interface with the same problem (not being able to access the internal network) was able to go to a section in the VPN wizard and set the Address Exeption Translation. They said they originally set the VPN subnet when they did not have to. Many of the other blogs I read also stated that if the natting is not proper for the VPN pool- that it will not work but I am confused by the examples. They show as I do the complete range for an access-list called no_nat_inside but I believe it should only have the VPN pool IP range and not the entire network since the others do require natting - not sure if my thought process is correct here. Any help will be greatly apprecaited. Also this morning I just tried a boiler plate example from CISCO and it also did not do what I need for it to do. And I also connect a PC to obtain an IP to see if I can see it - no good. The PC can ping the PIX and viceversa but no one can ping the remote PC that connects via the CISCO Remote VPN client even though it receive an address from the vpnpool. Also include LAN is checked off on the client. This was mentioned in anther post.

PIX501 is a very very old Cisco firewall that has not been sold for a long time to my understanding. It also doesnt support even close to new software levels.
If you wanted to replace the PIX501 the corresponding model nowadays would be ASA5505 which is the smallest Cisco ASA firewall with 8 switch port module. There is already a new ASA5500-X Series (while ASA5505 is of the original ASA 5500 Series) but they have not yet introduced a replacing model for this model nor have they stopped selling this unit. I have a couple of them at home. Though naturally they are more expensive than your usual consumer firewalls.
But if you wanted to replace your PIX firewall then I would probably suggest ASA5505. Naturally you could get some other models too but the cost naturally rises even more. I am not sure at what price these are sold as used.
I used some PIX501 firewalls at the start of my career but have not used them in ages since ASA5505 is pretty much the firewall model we use when we need a firewall/vpn device for a smaller network/branch site.

I am afraid that its very hard for me atleast to troubleshoot this especially since I have not seen any outputs yet. Also the very old CLI and lack of GUI (?) make it harder to see what the problem is.

Issues with writing html coding and how safari interprets it

Hi,
I have been having a frustrating 24 hours with my basically brand new iMac.
I have just started a course in web design and just doing a basic html unit. When I put the following in Textedit it comes up very strangely.

The h1 isnt centered, isn't in the correct font and comes up as green!
I have tried using other text editors like the Notepad App in the App Store and Textwrangler with the same result. Then I thought I would try a different browser and downloaded Firefox with the same result.
The frustrating this is that if I type out this html in Notepad on my Windows machine and open in IE it works perfectly.
I just did an experiment and emailed the html doc to my windows machine and tried to open in Notepad and it came up very strangely.
I have looked at other posts and changed around preferences in TextEdit.
I hope someone can help - this is really doing my head in that I can't even do the most simple task on my brand new computer!

Seriously, I've programmed all my adult life working in Unix until I switched to OS X. I've been through the complete range of editors starting with ed to vi to emacs with a bit of teco thrown in.
When I switched over to OS X I tried using TextEdit, trying to stay with all the native Apple tools and just found it to limiting for programming.
While I was able to get it to be a plain editor and not throw in things I didn;t want in my files or change things in the files behind my back it never had the 'right feel' or the power I was looking for.
I think if you're doing text TextEdit is fine but for programming tasks it's to limited. And why would you not want to use the best tool (or at least a better tool) for the job if it will make the job easier?
No, for the user doing some programming and system work (looking at plist files and such) TextWrangler is the way to go. Good power and expandability but fairly easy to use for a new or casual user.

Saving a postscript from Indesign 3

Hi
I'm trying to save a postscript through the print menu using acrobat 9 as the printer. I get a box come up which says "the save pdf and save as pdf postscript options are not supported. I'm using the same method i have in the past on another machine in CS2. I'm using leopard and not connected to any printers. I tried adding one ( so i could just make .ps files through it but was unable to (as machine just looks for printers).
Any suggestions very welcome.

I think it actually does. If one attempts to save a PostScript file using the OS (
i.e., by pressing the "Printer ..." button in the lower left of the InDesign Print dialog box, and then selecting "Save as PostScript..." from the "PDF" menu in the lower left of the Mac OS X Print dialog box), the process will fail on an Intel Mac as described by RachelE. It will succeed on a PPC Mac.
So the probable solution is to save the PostScript file using InDesign itself rather than the OS. To do this, select "PostScript® File" in the "Printer" popup menu at the top of the InDesign Print dialog box. This will enable the "PPD" popup menu where you can select the PPD you want to use.
However there is one weakness in this mechanism. You cannot access the complete range of PPD options in the InDesign print dialog box, only the ones that InDesign displays. So, if you do not need to access those "extra" PPD options, this will work for you, and will probably produce more reliable PostScript in any case. If you do need to modify those other PPD options, though, you are out of luck when using an Intel Mac, AFAIK.
