Completed first round of upgrade from 4.1.3b to 4.1.5b

This past weekend we upgraded some of our boxes from 4.1.3b to 4.1.5b. We upgraded our Active and Standby CMs, our data center 7341s and two 674s at one of our remote sites.We plan to let this run for a few weeks then we'll upgrade the rest of our remote WAEs.
So far it seems to have gone well. Our configurations were maintained and our scheduled reports continued to work too.
One issue we have come across is in regards to the 'strong password' policy. 4.1.5b requires the use of strong passwords. You can find it mentioned in the Release notes. However, the release notes state that this feature is disabled by default. We have come to find out that isn't true if you have SSL AO enabled. Since SSL AO is enabled by default, if you upgrade to 4.1.5b then the strong password policy is also enabled. This becomes a problem when a remote WAE goes offline then comes back online and tries to re-register with the CM. The CM will refuse the registration of the remote WAE because of the default username/password that is on each WAE. We don't currently use the SSL AO, so we were able to fix our problem by disabling the SSL AO feature on all of our WAEs. Another option may have been to change the default username/password to adhere to the newer password policy requirements.

Good question. For us, there were four software defects that were impacting our service. The most notable was a bug with MAPI AO and TFO overload. Our remote sites are deployed with two 674s installed inline. When the first WAE (closest to the users) would exceed its TCP limit, it spills over to the other WAE at the same site. Unfortunately, we experienced a problem with Outlook clients. When their Outlook TCP sessions spilled over to the other WAE their Outlook client would hang. The users had to shut down their client and restart the session.

edition upgrade on one of the nodes of SQL Server cluster is sufficient. This node can be either active or passive, and the engine does not bring the resources offline during the Edition Upgrade. After the edition upgrade it is required to either restart the
SQL Server instance or failover to a different node.
Upgrading the passive and failing over will be sufficient.

ODI upgrade from 10.1.3.5 to 11.1.1.7 Issue

My first attempt to upgrade from ODI 10.1.3.5 fails, so I drop users that I clone and recover. But my second attempt it is failing with the following error:

How long should the upgrade from iOS6 to iOS 8 take on an iPhone 5

Finally decided to upgrade my iPhone 5 from ios6??? to iOS 8 (which ever version is available today).
Backed up on iTunes first.
Launched upgrade from iTunes.
All seem fine until got a message that could not access phone because it was locked and should enter passcode to gain access.
Entered passcode and now on phone have progress bar which has not budged for about 3 hours. No longer see phone as device in iTunes.
Should I continue to be patient?

Unless you have a very slow Internet connection it should not take 3 hours. On my 50 Mbps connecting it takes 15 minutes. While the phone is updating it may disappear from iTunes; that part is normal. But not for 3 hours. Was the phone ever jailbroken?

Need to upgrade from 8i OCP to 11g OCP

I had my 8i DBA OCP a long time ago (2002). Now I'm planning to upgrade it to 11g OCP. I have a couple of questions about my options.
I know one of my options is to upgrade to 10g first and them upgrade from 10g to 11g.
But what about if I would like to take 11g tests, such as 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053? This will be my second option.
1) In my second option, will my exsiting IZO-001 (Introduction to Oracle SQL and PL/SQL) pass remains valide as an SQL exemption?
2) Since I already have OCP, will I exempt for oracle hands on training?
BTW, I already have an account in CertView and see all my certification information.

CindyI dont have time to seek out the authorive posts from times past.
But for an 8i DBA OCP with 1z0-001 then passes in 1z0-052 + 1z0-053 will achieve 11g DBA OCP certification with no additional training.
I will often recommend raising an Service Request to confirm this; as it would be a very expensive investment in money/time if it were not to be the case.

Inplace upgrade from 2012 to 2012 R2 fails when nearly complete

I've tried several times to upgrade a Server 2012 Standard running Hyper-V to R2 several times now with no success.
The setup will start fine. There are no "compatibility" issues found or reported and the setup then proceeds as expected.
It gets all the way through the phases and past the installing features, reboots, does all the hardware devices install and completes that, then does another reboot and gives me a BSOD (sorry, windows could not start sad face)
It will then reboot again and just keep doing that until I catch the boot menu and select the option to roll back to previous Windows. It then goes through the revert process and gives me a functioning machine again.

I have checked and there are NO disk volumes at all without drive letters
I have tried setting all Hyper-V and other 3rd party app services to manual and disabled
I tried disabling VT support from the bios (this was an issue on a workstation upgrading from Win8 to Win8.1)
I've unplugged all external drives and the UPS connection (only mouse/keyboard attached)
This server is running a full GUI, and apart from the UPS and RAID disk controller there are no other apps or software installed.
I am doing the install from a copy of all the DVD ISO files placed on a directory on the C: and there is over 550GB free space
I first tried this several months ago and gave up. I just tried again today with a newer ISO of 2012R2 but still the same issue.

There is a minor BIOS update that I will probably apply to be sure, although the release notes only say it is for additional support for newer CPU's. All drivers are either updated with ones that are already R2 supported, or are devices that say to just
use the drivers that come OOB in 2012/R2. This is a "white box" that I've built myself, but it effectively uses the same "enterprise class" components and is fully 2012R2 compatible.
I was able to do a clean install of 2012R2 using a different drive that I connected up, so I know the system is capable of running R2, the issue seems to be somewhere in the upgrade process that messes it all up. I'd rather avoid having to do a fresh install
at this time though.
Because the upgrade actually seems to get through all the steps of hardware detection etc I'm at a loss where the failure is. My first guess is that there is some "other" driver that the system has decided is more suitable for something (and is incompatible)
than the one I'm currently using.

Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and install any updates available.
Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.

I have seen a lot of discussions upgrading from Boot Camp 4 to 5 but no answers upgrading from boot camp 3.3 to 5. My worry is that if I upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion, that my bootcamp partition will no longer be able to boot up. Before doing any installation restart OSX from your 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD and use Disk Utility to Both Repair The Disk and Repair the Permissions of your Macintosh HD.
Next remove your Snow Leopard DVD and restart your iMac into OSX.
Update to the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard by clicking the Apple icon and choose Software Update to install Snow Leopard v10.6.8, the latest version.
Use Time Machine to make a Full Backup of your Macintosh HD.
Shut down and restart into Windows by holding the Option key at the chime and selecting Windows.
Now use Windows Backup to make a Full Image Backup of your Windows Installation to a removable drive.
Shut Down and Boot back into OSX.
Open the Mac App Store from your Dock to buy and download Mountain Lion. Then follow the onscreen instructions to install it.
Upgrading your OSX to 10.8 should not effect the Windows Partition at all since you are only upgrading the Mac side. You should not have to run the Boot Camp Assitant 5 Utility in OSX at all.
Your Boot Camp 3.3 Windows Support Drivers et. al only effect your Windows installation and should continue to run fine after upgrading.
Which version of Windows do you already have installed on the existing Boot Camp Partition?
Is it 32 bit or 64 bit?

Acrobat X crashes directly after completing first-side scan from Canon MF4570DN (both usb & network)

There was a time when, blissfully, scanning via Acrobat X Pro worked perfectly. Around 6 months ago, Acrobat X Pro crashes directly after completing the first side scan for whatever documents I have placed in the Automatic Document Feeder (or just the first side if scanning from the platen glass).
The software that comes with the scanner scans fine, and the timing of the crash leads me to believe that this has something to do with Acrobat's image processing/optimization. When I click on Debug, it mentions the error code: 6056
I have tried repairing the installation.

For what it's worth, deleting a bunch of the profile folders (actually renaming them) slowed down the process of crashing, which leads me to believe that whatever the process is that leads to the crash, it comes directly after writing a bunch of those preference folders...
I've been fighting this for 6 months now and it's really, really frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for the note.
I followed your advice and dowloaded new drivers for my Canon MF4880dw.
The filename was different than yours, because the model was different.
However, I noticed that this last version I downloaded is pretty new (released in April), so I was hoping it would fix the problem. Also, it was the same file for all versions of Mac OS X from 10.5 through 10.8.
Unfortunately, no luck: Acrobat still does not ask me to scan the reverse side. Maybe I should have uninstalled the printer before reinstalling it?
I more or less solved the problem by scanning double-sided documents on Acrobat 7 for Windows (which I also have installed on my Mac), which is not optimal, but at least works.
Any thoughts?

I cannot Upgrade both at the same time.
What is recommend to upgrade first? Server or Clients?

Hi,
No matter the order the client / server compatibility is not so strict. Check MOS note 207303.1
You can connect with a 10.2.0.3 client on a 10.2.0.4 database or with a 10.2.0.4 client on a 10.2.0.3 database. In fact you could even connect with a 9.2.0.8 client if it was still supported.
As Ollear mentioned you client application needs of course to be tested but it should work fine.
Notice the 10.2.0.5 patchset has been released.

Erase and install Lion from the USB Flash Drive version that's available on the online store.
Use the Migration Assistant to import the data, if you are certain everything is compatible with Lion. Read this user tip to determine if it might be incompatible:

If you have any PowerPC (Rosetta) Applications, you may have to manually import the data from the backup:

And then find the applications that are equivalent to them that are Lion compatible.
