Completely delete SELECTED messages?

In Mail 2.0.3, is there a way of completely deleting SElECTED messages from a mailbox? (In other words, I want to avoid the "two step" deletion process of first sending them to Mail's trash.)

Ah! This wasn't clear in your first post, I understand now. What you want is a "Delete Immediately" command, in addition to the standard (configurable) "Delete" command, right?
Well, AFAIK Mail does not have this. Probably the closer you can get is set up the account as described in my previous reply and move the messages you don't want to delete immediately to a custom mailbox folder instead of deleting them with Mail's Edit > Delete command (which would be used only for messages that you want to delete immediately). You can define a rule to permanently delete messages from that folder a specified amount of time after they were received or something like that. Maybe others know of a better approach.

Phil, you are using the Remove method of MessageList. Since MessageList is only a snapshot of the messages in the
message DB, the messages won't get deleted from the DB. You can use the Item method of MessageList to get individual
messages and subsequently call Delete on the Message object. Hope this solves your problem.

What do you mean when you say 'isn't working'? Are you receiving a

Perhaps I am misunderstanding you, but in email view why would you be selecting more messages without a purpose of doing a specific action with those selected messages? Each message you select "flags" it for whatever you do next (move or delete them). Simply do not select the messages that you don't want deleted.

how can i completely delete the message app from my mac?

    As per email.
    Hi,
In the Finder (have any window open), Use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
This will show the Library in the Menu, select this.
    Navigate to the Preferences folder.
Find the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist file and drag it to the Trash.
This is the one Messages reads directly to create the Receive At list and, if shown, the Start Conversations From drop down.
If Messages was starting properly and you restarted it at the point you would have to re-enter the Apple ID.
    On the iPhone.
Go to Settings > Messages  and check the app is ON first.
Then check the Send and Receive Section.
This will always list the iPhone Number as ticked and Greyed out (You can’t edit it).
Having said that I have twice found the Number to be Unchecked (whilst still grey out).
If this is the case go to the Apple ID section and Remove the Apple ID.
This will also remove it from the Send and Receive section (you can’t do it the other way round.)
Once that is done, place the iPhone in Airplane mode to break with the Servers.
After a few minutes take it out of Airplane Mode and return to Setting > Messages
You should see the iPhone Number being Verified. Wait until this is done.
(I would normally suggest sending an iMessage to the Apple ID at this point as it would be the only Active ID on the Mac. And sending a reply)
You can now add the Apple ID back to the iPhone if you wish to use that as well, if you intend to use it.
If not then you way want this site https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage
Please stick to one method of asking me  (The thread will do for now.)
I am here 3 hours every evening.
I read all the new post regarding email alerts from the boards.
I then filter the Yosemite, Mavericks and iChat Areas using the Contents page and where require Messages or iMessages and deal with unread one.
Posting here at 2.41PM (according to the Time view I have) and then emailing me 11 minutes later seems like you are giving me the hurry up.
In the email and this Post you are not clear if you want Messages to work again.
Removing the com.apple.ichat.plist may help with that.  (The Status Message one will not)
You may find checking the Font Book and the AppleGothic Font  is the answer.

  • Spotlight shows completely deleted messages in iOS 8.1

Spotlight shows completely deleted email messages and sms (emails are deleted both from sent and trash) in ios 8.1.
Some emails marked with blue circle (like a new message) and I can open them and see attachments and text.
When open message without blue circle, only Mail App start (or Messages App in case of sms).
I noticed that the blue circle and ability to see all text and attachments in deleted letter appears in the case when during editing letter Swipe Down gesture was used.
Note that the problem affects only sent messages. Incoming removed correctly.

  • Automated Reply and Delete of Selected Messages in Mail

First the situation, I do support work and have been receiving direct e-mails for support requests for the last 14 years. With additional people in the group, I want to force people to send e-mail to our helpdesk e-mail address to get support so other group members can provide assistance. Of course, these are old habits to break. I've been sending a canned message stored in Stickies saying something like "Your e-mail has been deleted, go to the helpdesk for support", but would like to automate that process.
I found that in Entourage, you can create a rule, not have it active, and then manually run that rule by selecting "Message -> Apply Rule -> <Rule-Name>". Unfortunately, I don't normally have Entourage open.
How would one use Rules in Mail.app, Automator, and/or AppleScript to accomplish this? I looked around at the default actions in Automator for Mail, but didn't really find what I thought would work. I also searched around for new actions to Mail, but still didn't find a way to reply-to and delete selected messages.
Any suggestions or pointers on where to look?
    Steve

When I try to reply in Mail, I hear the sound of a new window opening
What do you mean? There is no such sound in Mail...
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
The problem you have in Mail is usually caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services -- the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, this other article provides links to some utilities that can be used for troubleshooting and cache cleaning:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
It seems that the most appropriate utility for solving this particular problem is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Click Maintenance. In the Reset section, check LaunchServices database.
    4. You may uncheck any other pre-checked options if you wish.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.

  • How do I delete my Messages picture?

I would like to completely delete my Messages picture.  I have a picture setup for when I login to my Mac, but I do not want anything showing for when I message people.
I already turned off the picture from showing via Gmail settings so that when I chat via Google Hangouts on Jabber the picture will not show to the other person, but one of the default pictures is still showed (to me) when I message someone.  This same picture (a default picture) is shown when I use iMessage.
I do not want a default picture and I do not want a custom picture.  I just want no picture.  Where is the Messages picture stored?  When I go to Preferences > Change Picture, there is NO way to just select "no picture."
    Thanks.

    Hi,
When setting up the Mac for the First Time you get to select a Login Pic.
As you progress through you are asked for an Email and your Full name which creates the My Card in the Address Book/Contacts App.
This will pull the Login pic by Default.
You then start up iChat or Messages and this will take the Pic from the Contacts app (Address Book) by default.
In iChat the Buddy Lists are then on Display and you can click the current Buddy Pic  and change it.
In Messages if you only have the iMessages Account it will take the default picture.
In this case Enable the Bonjour Account then go to the Window Menu and select the Buddies item.
I have heard that a Right or Control Click will allow you to remove a Pic but have not found this to work.
Clicking the current Buddy Pic allows access to Defaults (Login Pics). Recents (those last 16 or so you have tried), Faces (From iPhoto) and Camera (Snapshots)
In Recents is a Head and Shoulders "Blank" icon.  Select that.
The Login Pic can be changed in System Preferences > User and Groups > Your account
The Contacts one can be Changed in Contacts App > My Card
The Messages one can be changed as you describe (Menu option) and by the method I described (Buddy List)
They can be changed in these places independent of each other.

Is there a way to get these back?

Well, that's kind of embarrassing. And I honestly thought I paid attention to that... It works perfectly now, thank you so much!
As expected, cdm-git also works fine since DMs only work in the root mode as of now.
Just for the record, both type commands output "/usr/bin/startx" and pacman -Q gives "systemd 215-4".

Lightroom trial doesn't show complete menu selections or import button.  Also get error message on launch:  An error occurred when attempting to change modules.  I am unable to find/see the following file to try renaming the SLCache and SLStore files:  System Library/Application Support/Adobe.  Any ideas?  I only have 16 days left on the trial and have been unable to get it to work on my Macbook Pro.  This is all I am seeing after Lightroom opens.  Thanks!

Thanks to both of you for attempting to help.  I finally figured out what was wrong . . . it was a Permissions problem.  Very frustrating, but after scouring the troubleshooting tips I finally found the one that solved my problem.  I had to add a User and give it Read/Write privileges to Lightroom.  The file I had to add the User to was Hidden on my Mac, so that added an even bigger challenge to the mystery.  Only a few days left on my trial version!  I hope I have time to try it out!

  • Cant select and delete text messages

Since the latest ios7 update i can no longer select and delete text messages.  I have to delete the entire conversation.  Anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix?

Tap and hold on a text within a conversation. Tap "More" in the pop up menu. Select the messages you want to delete by tapping in the little circles at the left of the messages. Tap the trash can in the lower left of the screen.
    Best of luck.
