Complex formating in a form letter

I need to build a report that will:
1. choose one of several letters based upon the data in a table (for example, one person gets a thank you for your interest in product A and the next gets a thank you for your interest in product B).
2. handle complex text with a lot of formating - underlining, font changes etc.
Can anyone recommend a reference or just point me down the road?

1. u can use decode ..
for ex
select decode(x,'A','thank u for ur intererst in A','B','Thank u for ur interest in B') from table_name

  • Form Letter Report - How To Format Date and Number Hidden Fields

    Hi
    Is it possible to format date and number fields in a form letter report. This case were Paper Design shows fields as $<hire_date>. The examples in reference book only print character values which do not require formatting. I cannot determine how to achieve this. Cannot select fields from Paper Design view as per other report styles where can apply formatting. Do I have to perform formatting in the query to return date as string in format I wish for? This is not case for other report styles.
    Thanks

    you could add a field, set the source of the field to hire_date (assuming hire_date is a column in the data model), and put a format mask of whatever format you want. then set visible to No.
    then instead of &<hire_date> you can instead type &<name of your new field>.

  • Protection of character format in Smart Forms

    Dear All,
    Similar to the "protected" option in SAP Script for Character format, please let me know "how to protect a character format in Smart forms?"
    Regards,
    Anand

    Hi,
    By using a folder node and checking the 'protect' checkbox, everything in that folder will be page protected.
    Also, chck the following link:

  • How do I use Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 Live View to copy complex formatted text into web page?

    Since Design View has been removed from Fluid Grid Layouts, and could be removed completely in next upgrade, I cannot use Live View to place complex text into my web pages.
    Our business requires the listing of complex job descriptions on our web pages.  Design View worked fine, Live View does not. Both examples are noted below.

    Obviously, as seen above, I'm doing something wrong or Live View does not do all the functions that Design View use to do.  I realize I can still access Design View in non-Fluid Grid Layout documents and that is my current work-around.  I copy from my Word file into Design View available in non-Fluid, then copy that code into my Fluid Grid Layout document, not real efficient use of my time.  And, even that work-around may not be available after the next upgrade.

    Hans thank you for your reply and attention to this matter.  Moreover, with your steeped expertise I do not, in any fashion, intend to be flippant or capricious.
    However, I do not believe the reply is on point since I'm not discussing the insertion of an HTML tag/element; but rather, the placing of complex formatted text into my various web pages.
    Design View and  2014.1 Live View seem to serve different functions.  That is, Design View, for us, serves as a highly sophisticated HTML5 code generator that allows us to properly display complex formatted text that originally is created as a Word docx file.  As I noted in my original post, the complex formatted text from the Word file is then pasted into Design View and thus properly renders on the web page.  I invite you to try this yourself.  Simply copy my properly formatted text in my original post (that can be found at "Using Design View the web page rendered this way:") to a Word file, and it will retain the complex formatting, then copy that Word file text to both Design View and  2014.1 Live View files.  Please apprise me of your results.
    Discussion has been had in at least two separate threads on the Design View disappearance in Fluid Grid.  In https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1597260 staff member Lalita wrote "It would be helpful for us if you list the issues you are seeing with fluid grid live view editing."  And in https://forums.adobe.com/message/6807088#6807088 staff member Subhadeep wrote "If you can list down the workflows you are trying while editing in Live View & the issues you are facing in doing so, it will help us understand what is amiss & suggest alternative workflows to do the same."  I believe I've pointed out issues when attempting to use Live View for functions or work flow that customarily had been done in Design View.
    Being a CC subscriber, if someone can provide me with a workflow using other additional Adobe products to get my complex formatted text from Word ultimately to my Dreamweaver web page, be it an image insert or whatever, I would take the suggestions.
    The difference in the coding of my example in my original post is as follows.

    It is readily apparent that Design View is a much needed code generator in the Dreamweaver product.  Live View serves completely other, and needed, purposes.  Therefore, I still, after all the forum discussions, do not understand why Design View has been removed from Fluid Grid.
    Again Hans thank you for your reply.  But unless I'm missing something, citation to the links you provided does not solve my problem.  And that problem is this: If Design View is on its way out and thus will be completely removed from Dreamweaver at some point, then how do I provide my information (i.e. complex executive job descriptions) on my website?
    Apparently a vote is taking place https://forums.adobe.com/ideas/3922 on the issue of placing Design View back into Fluid Grid.  I do not understand why the need for two rather disjunctive functionalities are at the mercy of the democratic process.  These are matters of engineering principles not "town hall gatherings".

  • Is it possible to mailmerge a form letter to recipients identified in a database (names, addresses, etc.)?

    Is it possible to mailmerge a form letter so that the mailmerge process produces separate pdf files, one for each recipient identified in a database (names, addresses, etc.)?
    Or is is  it possible to mailmerge a form letter so that the mailmerge process produces one big file that contains a copy of the form letter for each recipient identified in a database?

    Hi marceepoo,
    If you're using Word for Windows, you sure can. See Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Create PDFs from Word mail merges

    You could go to System - User Profile - Own Data would take you to the "maintain user profile screen"
    Click the defaults button and change the date format.This changes date format for all the dates in your login.

  • Rep-1051 when creating Form Letter

    Hi
    I'm trying to create a Form Letter in Reports 6i for the first time.
    When I create it, it runs successfully in Reports but when I try and save it anywhere, I get the messages - rep-1051 Unable to save document and rep-1070 Error when opening or saving a document.
    This is a new report created from scratch. I have tried building it bit by bit and it seems that in the form letter layout, it likes it and will save up to a certain amount of text but when I go over that amount (which I need to do), I'm getting this error.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Martin

    Hi Martin
    It's all about temporary space issue. I have the problem with reports 10g.
    what i do.
    Create a folder in a drive, where good amount of free space available.
    then update registry setting of
    REPORTS60_TMPwith the newly created folder path
    Hope this works..

  • Default paragraph format in SMART FORMS

    Hi all!
    Can we mention  default paragraph format for SMART FORMS? How can we do that?
    Please suggest.

    Goto FORM attributes of your smartform and insert your smart style in output options tab.. before inserting your smartstyle you should create a smart style and create a paragraph format in your smartstyle in header data of smartstyle it ask for standard paragraph(i.e default paragraph)...
    Close rge thread once your question is answered.

  • /bin/bash to write a form letter [solved]

    Ok, in principal, I need to have bash read in a file and make substitutions for variables I have defined in a skeleton file.  Kind of like a form letter.  Why?  I have torque installed on my machine and I need to have my repo-ck build script make a custom build.sh that each respective cluster job will call.
    I'm no student and this isn't homework.  Anyway, here is an oversimplified example
    letter.skl:
    Dear $name,
    The party starts at $time.
    Regards,
    $me
    So the bash script defines all three of those variables and needs to read in the letter.skl and pipe it into a new file that contains the "final" output.  How can this be accomplished?
    #!/bin/bash
    name="John"
    time="11 o'clock"
    me="graysky"

    Yeah... this is how I'm doing it now, but it's very clunky.  I need to generate within my build.functions two files:
    1) A build script unique to each arch and cpu package
    2) A queue file for the cluster that will call #1
    I have leveraged the echo method as I said, but its not elegant and very ugly.  What would be far better would be for me to have a skeleton script I can read in, substitute and write out if this is possible natively in bash.
    Example of my "ugly" code:
    # make cluster.pbs
    echo "#!/bin/bash" > $pkgarch-$arch.pbs
    echo "#PBS -l nodes=1,walltime=1:00:00" >> $pkgarch-$arch.pbs
    echo "#PBS -N $arch-$pkgarch" >> $pkgarch-$arch.pbs
    echo " " >> $pkgarch-$arch.pbs
    echo "[[ $arch = \"x86_64\" ]] && $workdir/build-$pkgarch-$arch.sh" >> $pkgarch-$arch.pbs
    echo "[[ $arch = \"i686\" ]] && sudo linux32 chroot /opt/arch32 /bin/bash -c $workdir/build-$pkgarch-$arch.sh ; sleep 1s" >> $pkgarch-$arch.pbs
    # make script it needs if building in chroot
    echo "#!/bin/bash" > $workdir/build-$pkgarch-$arch.sh
    echo ". /home/$me/.credentials" >> $workdir/build-$pkgarch-$arch.sh
    echo "cd $workdir" >> $workdir/build-$pkgarch-$arch.sh

  • Is it possible to merge addresses into a formed letter?

    Does anyone know if it is possible to take a mailing list of names and merge them into a formed letter or use on envelopes?

    Yes, most of the existing templates do that already.
    If you want to set it up yourself:
    Menu > Insert > Merge Field
    The source data can come from a Numbers table or better from Contacts/Address Book.
    Look up Personalizing Documents with Address Book and Numbers Data page 246 in the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf downloadable from under the Help menu.

  • Need profile option for determining DateTime format in Oracle Forms

    Hello All,
    I also have requirement where I need to read the date format in which Oracle Forms displays date values.
    As per updates to [this thread|https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=10285119] , I just need to read the profile option "ICX: Date format mask" ("ICX_DATE_FORMAT_MASK"), and reformat the date value to my required target format.
    This is good for the date type of fields. But what about the profile option that determines "datetime" formats in Oracle Forms ?
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks
