Looking for a video or printed comprehensive guide for absolute beginners covering iPod Touch/iTunes/connecting to WiFi etc.
Is there one out there (UK) that anyone could recommend? Thanks.....BC

    I believe that the beginners' installation guide could be condensed and simplified somewhat.
    Would it be useful for me to add such a guide to the wiki (which would particularly apply to virtual machine installations)? Won't touch the existing guide, of course!
    By "over-complicated" I mean dhcpcd should work right off the bat (especially with a wired connection), and NetworkManager can automatically handle internet connections for installed systems.
    By "condensing" I mean to add user configuration, etc., in the same article.
    Idea is this should work as a "first attempt" guide for users, who could then refer to the more involved beginners' guide if they run into any problems.

    No, as jasonwryan says, if you want you can add some personal installation notes under your User page. However what VM are you using? Have you noticed that we already have articles for virtualization software that explain how to install an Arch guest? See Category:Virtualization.

    This is absolutely the kind of articles we want to avoid on the wiki: a good guide should link to specific articles, not duplicate their content, otherwise it will become impossible to maintain. If you feel the article for your VM, or those on networking (see Category:Networking) like Network Configuration or NetworkManager are not clear in some of their parts, you are invited to help improving them.

  • Where can i get a comprehensive guide for coding html 5 plugins

    'm starting to get fustrated cause i cant find any good documentation on how to create HTML 5 plug ins  for just a few videos starting me off. im using eclipse and the extension builder.  but i need to learn how to program things like import video, create sequence, place videos on timeline, adjust paramitors and add effects.
    it surprised me to hear they switched to html plugins and im surprised there arent a ton of thing in extension manager.

  • What are the best books for PL/SQL and Forms for BEGINNERS?

    I asked about learning Oracle Forms in an earlier thread. Some suggested Oracle training at official Oracle Training centers like Koenig. I just went to the Koenig site. The OCA & OCP Forms Developer Training Boot Camp is a whopping 2,610 USD. That’s like 1/4 Million LKR. It’s more that the yearly salary of both the 2 new developers we got and want to train. That’s out of the question.
    Some have suggested shadowing experiences programmers and team coding. Both options are out, since those things don't work here.
    Learning from sites such as Francois Degrelle's blog is no good for new people since they will get confused.
    I have come to the conclusion that the only way to do is to buy 2 books, one for PL/SQL and another for Oracle Forms, give it to them and ask them to follow the book and learn it and also give a time period like 2 or 3 months.
    What are the good books out there for BEGINNERS to learn PL/SQL and Forms?

    Just for the record: I believe leaving them alone with the books won't do it. I'd at least define objectives (e.g. $chapters of the books in a week) and after they achieved them I'd test their knowledge of the individual objectives (like it was back in school :p ). By that you have control over how they are proceeding, you can focus on the things they didn't understand and you are able to eradicate some bad habits they might adopt during their studies.
    If you don't take your time to train them proper you won't get good developers anyway and you will loose much more time and money...

    Qualifying Event Coverage Periods:

If qualified beneficiaries are determined to be disabled within 60 days of the COBRA event, they are entitled to a further 11 months of coverage, as are the other qualified beneficiaries who experienced the original event.
    • For all other qualifying events except Bankruptcy of employer, a qualified beneficiary is entitled to 36 months continuation coverage, and there is no extension provision for disability.
    • In the case of the event Bankruptcy of employer, the coverage continuation period is the life of the retired employee or retired employee's widow/widower. You therefore do not need to define a continuation period in this case.

    You need to assign these COBRA-qualifying event types since they are based on customizable entries in your HR master data and therefore cannot be delivered as standard.
    When the system collects COBRA-qualified beneficiaries, it considers employee records within the date range you specify in two stages as follows:
    1. The system searches for employee personnel action (infotype 0000) records. The COBRA qualifying events assigned to any personnel actions found are collected.
    2. The system checks other employee infotype records for specific information which corresponds to COBRA-qualifying event types

    2. "Functions->Boolean" includes such functions like "Number to boolean array" and so on.

  • Need help or documentation for beginners with SAP BI7

  • Is there no User Guide for Premiere Pro CS6?

    I am a FCP7 refugee trying to decide between Avid and PP CS6. After waiting for a few weeks for it to be available, I have been lookiig through the PP CS6 Help PDF. I was surprised to see that it is not a complete reference guide documenting the features of the application, but instead a mish-mash of short descriptions, with numerous links to videos, documents from earlier versions, and other external locations where one has to go to get the actual information--not very helpful as a guide to the application. Is there actually no comprehensive user guide from Adobe in a single document or PDF? Or is the only way to get information about the application to navigate through all these disjointed materials?
    If there is such a user guide, I would very much like to know where I can find it. If there isn't, I would have to count this as a very big factor in favor of deciding to go with Avid. This is particularly true given the absence of any current third-party books on PPro CS6, although such books are hardly a substitute for a well written and comprehensive user guide, something which is also true of the help PDF.

    Yes, for CS6, new information was added to the CS5/CS5.5 documentation. We had to go this route because we are working with brand new documentation software. There simply was not enough time to integrate the software and complete a whole new set of documentation. Believe me, it was enough of a challenge integrating the old system with the new one--in addition to creating the articles for new features, and the connective tissue between them.
    There is only one person that does the docs for Premiere Pro, and that is me. I have limitations and guidelines I must follow, so I hope you understand.

    No, this is the Help. It has BOTH the comprehensive details about the software and community content where you can see how people are actually using the software. If the Help is lacking details about any feature, please alert me and I will include those details. I work directly from the engineering documentation and include every detail I can about any feature.
    Since my time is limited, I don't always have time to make supplemental materials like video tutorials, or articles. That's why I link to them. The crucial info is included in the docs, the community content is material that I personally approve as helpful and supportive to the documentation.

    None of the community content is irrelevant. I sort through it all very carefully. Community content is supportive and helpful to users. It should not be necessary to sort through these tutorials as the info should be right in the docs. Community content is supplemental. If you don't find the information you were looking for in the docs themselves, create a comment right on the Help page and I'll see to it that it gets fixed ASAP.

    It is a real user guide. I'm sorry you don't feel that way. If you want a doc with only Premiere Pro CS6 info in it, I can understand that request. Unfortunately, that was impossible for this round.
    If you have any suggestions for the next round of Help documentation, a better place than here would be the Community Help forum. Please voice your concerns there, as the people that actually make decisions about Help are hanging out there.

  • Upgrade guide for users of older versions of Flash Media Server?

    I'm looking around to see if anyone has sort of done a crossover or upgrade guide for people with older FMS installations.
    We've been running the server since at least version 2, and haven't had to change much in upgrading to subsequent versions.
    In doing so, we hadn't had to change to some of Adobe's newer ways of doing things with regards to configuration files, etc.
    In setting up a test 4.5.x server, though... it appears we will likely want to really change the way we are doing things.
    I'm wondering if anyone knows of a comprehensive site that would sort of cover topics in a "if you did this this way before, do it this way now" sort of instructions.
