Compress database in db13 and backint?

Hello all,
The db13 job "compress database"  that is running every 4 weeks in an ECC 5.0 system running Oracle 9.2.0.7 with size 180GB is taking 11 hours to complete. I am not sure how much time this is supposed to take, but 11 hours looks excessive to me. SAP recommends running this once a month
In addtion, in the link below,
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0d/d30cec4a0c11d182b80000e829fbfe/frameset.htm
I found (if I read it correctly of course) that if I am using backint to an external backup tool (we are using backint and netbackup here) , then the compress is not needed
Could you please tell me what is the runtime of your compress jobs and if my understanding about compress not needed when backint with netbackup is used is correct?
Many thanks
Andreas

this is right, you do not need to "compress" DB if you use backint.
the "compress" DB only calculates the compression rate for use with BRBACKUP (without backint).
if you use BACKINT, it`s the responsibility of your 3rd party backup software to control compression.

    Hi,
I have scheduled check database in DB13 , I am getting an error as, BR0970W Database administration alert - level: ERROR, type: MISSING_STATISTICS, object: (table) SAPSR3./BEV2/ED970. There are lot of messages found after check database. I am also getting error in verify database in DB13. What could be problem? Please help me with your solutions.....
    Regards,
    Nageshwar

This condition checks to see whether there are tables or indices that do not have any statistics, although they should have them.
The OBJECT field is not specified for this condition.
This condition has no checking operands, threshold values and value units.
Run your DB stats every week

  • Difference between " COMPRESS FOR ALL OPERATIONS" and "COMPRESS FOR OLTP"?

I was looking through Oracle's OLTP Table Compression (11g onwards) documentation as well as online resources to find the syntax and came across two different versions:
    COMPRESS FOR ALL OPERATIONS
    and
    COMPRESS FOR OLTP
The documentation I looked through didn't mention any alternative syntax, so i was wondering if anyone here might know the difference.
    Thank you!

Table Compression Enhancements in Oracle Database 11G Rel1 as as follows:
The compression clause can be specified at the tablespace, table or partition level with the following options:
•NOCOMPRESS - The table or partition is not compressed. This is the default action when no compression clause is specified.
•COMPRESS - This option is considered suitable for data warehouse systems. Compression is enabled on the table or partition during direct-path inserts only.
•COMPRESS FOR DIRECT_LOAD OPERATIONS - This option has the same affect as the simple COMPRESS keyword.
•COMPRESS FOR ALL OPERATIONS - This option is considered suitable for OLTP systems. As the name implies, this option enables compression for all operations, including regular DML statements. This option requires the COMPATIBLE initialization parameter to be set to 11.1.0 or higher.

  • Compress database/tablespace

    Hi!
We currently do not use compression in our 150GB database (test- and development DB).
However we would like to test this feature to verify whether it is suitable for us.
I already have these statements for table and tablespace compression:
    alter table MYTABLE compress;
    alter tablespace MYTABLESPACE default compress;
    I assume that I will have to reorganize the objects in each tablespace, i.e. move them to the beginning of the datafiles after compression is applied. I can do this using alter table MYTABLE move;
    My questions are:
How do I best apply compression to our database? Do have to compress each and every table/index, do I compress each tablespace or can I compress the whole database in a single statement?
Will the tablespace compress statement apply compression only to new objects or will the existing objects also be compressed?
We are on Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options.
    Looking forward to your suggestions.
Please let me know if you need further information.

    Thanks!
We are going to test compression in our test and development environments.
As I now understand it setting the compress-attribute on tables and/or tablespaces will apply compression only on newly inserted rows.
11g is not an option for us at moment, but I will look into that when I have tested compression for 10g.
The link you provided was useful and gave me the needed information.
    Again, thanks!

  • Compress Database option

What does the compress database option actually do in BPC? Is it necessary for every optimization?

I don't think this is a Netweaver version option, but it does occur when you run an optimization.
When you send data to the database to an intersection that already has data, rather than changing the number the system calculates an adjustment to what is in the database to what you want it to be and writes the adjustment.
For example, assume data in the facttable is 2010.JAN,ACTUAL,ENTITY100,ACCT100,100.
If you send data that changes this to 90 then the system actually sends a -10 and now there are two lines in the database.
    2010.JAN,ACTUAL,ENTITY100,ACCT100,100
    2010.JAN,ACTUAL,ENTITY100,ACCT100,-10
Users don't ever see this, all they see is the 90 amount.
A compression of the database combines these two lines into one so the number of records in the database is reduced.

  • Problem with database tool kit, and MS Office Tool kit.

One of my programmer's who has the Office tool kit noticed this on Monday, and we haven't been able to find the problem yet.
We use the database connectivity reads and writes to a MS Access database. This program reads the data from a Symbol Scanner, and then inputs it into the database.  He then has a query that to create a data table to pump into the MS Toolkit to build a MS World file (This is for a Bill of Lading).
What we found it that it works really well the first time, and on any further runs it will not update the database with any new data. It starts working again if we do a restart on the computer.  It seems like something is not freeing up the database.   He is freeing all the tables and closing the DB connection at each process, and everything else seems to be doing everything else right.  I think the problem is that it goes into this MS Toolkit to make the table that goes on the Bill of Lading.
I did a modification that makes it read from an excel file on my desktop, and I found that it is doing the same thing. I deleted the report generator part of the program, and found that it will update the database properly.  I have no clue.
    here is the machine specs:
    labview 8.6
    Database connectivity toolkit 1.0.2
Report generator toolkit MS Office 1.1.3
MS Office 2007, the file is a Office 2003 format,

Given that the code still fails when talking to a excel file it sounds like this isn't really related to the database. Can you post a bit of your that shows the problem. Beyond that, be looking for things in the code that change between subsequent interations -- things like shift registers, globals, etc.
On the other hand, the fact that you have to restart the computer would tend to indicate that there is something going on with the MS Office side of things. To be clear: shutting down and restarting LV is NOT sufficient to clear the problem?
When the problem is occurring, if you shut down LV and open the Task Manager do you see (on the Processes tab) any MS Office components still running?

  • Acrobat 9 installed on Windows 8.1; upon Save, error every time: "The Organizer Database is damaged and will be reset..."; no "Organizer90" file found (to be deleted, as www suggests for solution with XP, VIsta, 7)

I've installed my old faithful Acrobat 9 Pro on my new Windows 8.1 computer. The program works, but every time I save the document, it tells me "The Organizer Database is damaged and will be reset. Quit the program and close all browsers." (Something close to that text.) I've entered the error online, and a solution does appear for XP, Vista, and Windows 7. It tells me to have Windows Explorer show hidden files, and then look for "Organizer90" within Users/[me]/AppData/LocalLow/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0, and then delete that file -- which will make Acrobat generate a new one. But there is no such file there. Please help with alternate solution. NOTE: When I "Check for Updates" in Acrobat, I'm told that there are no updates available at this time, but also told: "Please note that some updates for the following products cannot be determined at this time: Adobe Updater." Seems like things are out of whack.

Thanks for help. Difficulties continue: When trying to install 9.5.5, I'm told it can't install because the program may not be on my computer, or may be the wrong version. I'm told to check that the program exists. The installed version (9.0) is totally legit, my serial numbers, etc., I've used it for many years. Automatic update seems to be on, but I downloaded Adobe Updater to be sure. Seemed to make no difference. Program does function, but not perfectly. Under "About," it calls itself 9.0, so it would not seem that auto update is taking place. Acrobat on previous machine (Windows Vista) indeed calls itself 9.5.5. (It was installed with same 9.0 package, and presumably updated itself to 9.5.5 over the years.) So summary of current problem: Acrobat 9.0 won't upgrade to 9.5.5 on Windows 8.1.

No they cannot send you a document that is available only to those with access to MOS.
That would violate the conditions of having such service contract credentials.
Asking someone to violate such privileges is a serious offense and could get that other person's organization banned from all support and all their support contracts cancelled.
