Compressing XDCAM 5 minute video to SDHC Class 6 cards

Anyone know the settings to choose so to produce HD video for playback on Digital Picture Frames? I'm using Final Cut Studio 6.x latest version and Kodak's Digital Picture frame says it supports .mov, AVI, MPEG, and MPG. I have various problems when I choose the obvious choices in Compressor. Thank you.

If you are using it in a camera , then you should only format it in that, Peter. Quite a few cameras develop a distaste for cards formatted externally, and few , if any are likely to work if it is HFS formatted.
I suggested HFS formatted because I was getting the impression you were wanting to use it for other purposes. By and large it is a good idea to keep cards used in cameras for that purpose alone, and only bung them in the computer slot to transfer FROM the camera to the computer (though erasing images without reformatting while in the computer is usually harmless enough) .
But normally a "FAT" formatted card, as long as the camera maker hasn't fiddled with the format, should be writeable in a Mac (it is NTFS which isn't.)
If it is appearing as "read only" on the Mac, but is FAT formatted, then check the little switch on the side of the card. Sometimes they get a bit dislodged to an intermediate position between the "writable" and "locked" positions.
(I should have added, if you do want to format a card in a Mac you simply use Disk Utility - in your utilities folder - which will allow you to choose partitioning and formatting schemes for cards as well as memory sticks and hard drives.)

  • ThinkPad T410/T510 SDHC Class 10 Cards

Really?  Looks like my T61 supports my LX 32GB Class 10 card but my T510 doesn't (comes up as unformatted in Windows).  What the heck?

Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit.  Is there a better driver I should be using?  My other, stable 64-bit desktop setup doesn't have an SD card slot.  My two 32-bit, Windows 7 machines read this card without any problem.
I am constantly prompted to format the card in the 64-bit machine, though I know better than to do so.
My T510 can read/write to a very low end, 2006-era SD card (1 GB formatted).  Any thoughts?

  • My ipad3 w/ camera connection kit will not read my SDHC Class 10 memory card.  Should I try directly from the camera or does ipad not support class 10?

Connection kit will read class 6 cards but not class 10???

I use an 8GB SDHC Class 10 card & it works with my iPad 2. Make sure the 30-pin adapter is fully seated into the side of the iPad.
Here's another way. Import the pics to your computer. Then you can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • 10 Minute video compressed for web streaming help

Hi, I have to get some 10 minute videos online and I can't seem to get them smaller than 60 MB. Right now they are great quality H.264 files but they are all 111 MB. Does anyone know how to get these files to an acceptable file size for the web?
I have to keep the size of the video at 570x320.
    Thanks.

I'd have to agree with Dave on this one. Your movie dimensions are the biggest hang up.
How about an old Web trick that works nice with H.264 files? Half size.
Using export via QuickTime at the settings that made the 11MB file but set the dimensions scaled half of your intended size.
I know. You want a big display in the Web page. Here's how to do it.
In the html code are special tags used by the QuickTime browser plug-in. One (rarely used) is scale="tofit".
In the embed tag add scale="tofit" and in the object tag use param name="scale" value="tofit"
In each (object and embed) tag are dimensions used in the source file. Change these values to your desired size (double them).
Bingo! Big display of a smaller file sized movie. Your viewers will not know what hit them.

  • Fastest Way to Upload a 10 Minute Video For a Vlog?

Hi all. I have a 10 minute video (484 MB) that I've compressed as a .MOV file. I'm trying to upload it to my website or to Internet Archives and it's taking FOREVER. Am I better off compressing it as an mpeg-4 or for ipod? Is it normal for 10 minutes of video to take 5-6 hours to upload to a website?
    Thanks.

DUDE! FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FOUR MEGABYTES?!?!?
You need to learn about compressor and H.264 - my short film (Killer Trees) is 10 minutes and is 41 megabytes...
    Patrick
EDIT: I shouldn't say my film - I just cut it.

Good to hear that you've had some success with the import.
I tried 3 times to do it before I finally changed it to H.264, and it worked on the first try.  The quality of the compression was terrible with those settings compared to my standard settings, but I'm just glad it worked.
Rather than Share>Export using QuickTime and then choosing your own settings for H.264, you may get a better result if you simply use the Share>Export Movie option. Alternatively, use the Share>Media Browser option (as I mentioned in my earlier post). You will be presented with a range of sizes to choose from. Depending on your target, it's usually best to select the highest size available, such as Large, HD 720p or HD 1080p. However, for producing a DVD it's best to not go beyond the HD 720p size, as the DVD will be downscaled during encoding to Standard Definition in the appropriate size for either PAL or NTSC.
In my experience, both these options (Export Movie or Media Browser) produce a video file of excellent quality. The files will be in H.264 format and will have the file extension .mov or .m4v depending on the size of the export. I'm assuming that your camera records HD video in AVCHD format.
These files work well with iDVD (or other DVD authoring programs). The export process for the presets is optimised by Apple to produce high quality video files at a reasonable file size. So, selecting a preset may give you a much better result. Choosing your own H.264 settings when using the "Export using QuickTime" method could be why "the compression was terrible". You may have selected a data (bit) rate that was too low. There is always a trade-off between quality and file size when compressing video.
So, to summarise, try one of the Apple presets using either Share>Export Movie or Share>Media Browser.

  • Trying to figure out compression settings for existing video to re-use

So, I had a 3 minute video that, at settings according to the "info" panel" for it is at 720x480, .264 compression setting, and small or big looks great-- I got the file to under 20 megs.
Now, after messing with NTSC settings and whatnot, I tried bringing it back to the original settings with a recut version of the same length, no extra bells and whistles in the video, and yet, I can't get it under 250 megs.
Is there a way to find out the specific settings for it beyond the simple file info window?
Also-- does key frames at a low setting (24-30) affect it greatly?
I just need to get it back to that little size without sacrificing sound or quality-- I did it once, i need to do it again.

    ...anyone?

  • Yikes, 5 minute video taking forever to load on drop-in

I have a 5 minute video shot in HD at 1920 x 1080.  I have compressed the video to only 27MB because I am really only using the video as a guide to the graphics so it doesn't matter if the video looks bad.  I will not be using the video part in the end, only the graphics I create around it.  Basically, I am using the video as a timeline both video palcement and audio placement.
I imported the video and dragged it down the the "new comp" button to make sure the sizing is set properly at 1920 x 1080.  Now it seems to be taking forever for the video to "load".  It's only moving in slow-mo and I still can't hear any audio.  I know I have to use the preview controls to hear audio but still nothing.  Sometimes i can hear audio but then no video, although neither is actually working.
Is my computer too weak to handle this file?
    I am running an HP, AMD Athlon 64 x 2 Dual core processor 6000 + 3.00GHz, 3.00GB, 32-bit OS.  Is that enough?
What is the best way to load  large video files so you can actually work with them (audio and video) without the stops and starts?
    Thank you!

Rudy: Without knowing the details, it's important to point out that some extremely compressed video formats are meant for distribution/playback, not to be used in production. They could be much harder to decode tan the original video file recorded by the camera (again, not knowing what kind of camera). In fact, the overall file size or data rate for a video file is not directly related to how heavy it is for an application to lift it, sort of speak. Simply try using the original. But it would be useful if you post what format the original is, and also the compressed file.

  • How can I download a 18 minute video I recorded from my iPad to either email or youtube or vimeo I keep getting the message the file is too long.

How can I transfer a 18 minute video I recorded on my iPad camera app to email/youtube or vimeo? I keep getting the message the file is too long do want to send clips?
    Thanks

Youtube usually had an 8 minute length cap, which may be part of your issue. Also at 18 minutes that is probably a gig+ file size, which will also take a long time to upload and may be another part of the issue.
Edit it down as jim suggested. Or you may need to use something like dropbox, to get it off your ipad and onto a computer where might have more options to edit it down or size it down.
If it's just file size you can transcode it into a smaller file - a lower quality MP4 for example. If it's the length that's an issue for youtube, you'll need to break it up into a couple different files and upload part 1 and part 2

    >Any fixes?
Don't use WiFi for streaming video.  It is even worse for AirPlay since you are using bandwidth twice as it sends data from the iOS device to the router and then from the router to ATV.  Use an wired connection to go to ATV.   Even the high end consumer grade WiFi equitment is not great at doing streaming video.

  • Final Cut Pro takes time to share/export a 40 minute video

I bought a brand new new Macbook Pro (4 GB RAM, i5, HD 500 GB (300 GB available) Mid 2012 model and it takes 3-4 hours to share/export a 40 minute video without any effects applied on the clips. I have another Macbook Pro, same model and same specs and it just takes an hour to render the same video/project which I think is reasonable time.
Video files are from my Canon 60d camera which are .mov files. I usually export my projects to H.264 Video and AAC. (Share>Master File)
I don't have any problem exporting/sharing a 3 minute video with effects applied on the clips on my macbook Pro where I'm having a problem with because it has the same export/share time with my other MBP. It takes 5 minutes to share/export a 3 minute video which I think is reasonable. The problem is why my new Macbook Pro takes time to share/export a project with a video duration of 30-40 minutes compared to my other Macbook Pro.
    Thank you for your help!
    Final Cut Pro version: 10.0.8
    Macbook: OS X 10.9.2

If you have two MBPs with exactly the same specs (including GPU) – and you have comparable free space on both system drives –and comparable free space on any media drives  – then verify that your perceptions of their exporting times are different by doing a test with identical projects media and export settings – and ith no other apps running. If you confirm that one is much faster than the other, I'd suspect the GPU. Also open Activity Monitor to see what's being reported – particularly to see whether there are differences in the way memory is being used.

  • Over 2 Hours To Export a 10 Minute Video Even With Other Editing Software

Hi, I am having a problem with EVERY edititing software I have used. Recently that is. Anyway heres the deal. I got a new computer and it has been an amazing PC. It has a sticker on the front that says HD video editing as in it supports it. Which it very well does. Within the last couple weeks, I have had problems with editing my videos. I usually render 5 to 15 minute videos since I do YouTube. That would take between 10 and 30 minutes. Now, these videos are taking almost 3 hours give or take just to finish rendering. I have no idea why. It all started when I changed the settings in MSCONFIG to have maximum memory. I restarted my PC and got a hardware error. So I went into safe mode and undid what I had done. I also took out the RAM, and CPU to see if that was a problem. I then put it back in of course. I don't know every knick and cranny of Adobe premiere so please be very descriptive. I also remember that I was having trouble with the fan of my CPU. I couldn't get it to lock back down on the mother board. Could that be a problem? It isn't lock in on all 4 parts. Only 2 I believe. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Dumb me haha, I didn't even think of puttin in system info. I believe thats what you were asking? I am using Adobe Premiere CS6. I don't know what version though.
My system specs are as followed
    Pentium Dual Core CPU E6300 @2.80GHz 2.79GHz
    RAM: 4.00 GB
    64 Bit Windows 7
    Nivida Geforce 210 Video Card
The video files I render are M2TS and they are recorded with the Haupaugge Colosus @ 1280x720 in Arcsoft Total Media ShowBiz.
I render them with adobe premiere in H.264 in 1280x720 @29.97 FPS with a Bit rate of 2MB/s

  • How do I download a 37 minute video recorded on my iphone to my computer or Youtube?

I recorded a training session on my iPhone and need to share it with others.  How do I share this 37 minute video?

ITunes for windows I think puts photos/movies in your windows folders.  It's been a while since I've used iTunes for windows.
I just looked, you can share movies to youtube straight from the iphone.  just look at your camera roll and select the video, hit the share button

  • 11 minute video is 4.7 GB

I have a 11 minute video in iMovie and when I share with iDVD or to Quick time the file is 4.7 GB. Is there a reason why this is so large. Because of this I am unable to burn it on to a DVD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I imported short quick time movies from my Fuji digital camera and a Flip video camera. I added titles and transition and some music. I then proceeded to share the video to iDVD. When iDVD opened up and I started to change the title then iDVD freezes. I then tried to share it through a Quick Time and then place the video into iDVD. It still freezes up. That is when I thought it was because of time size.
