Compressor 2 documentation input wanted

The Apple documentation team for pro video applications would like to know what you think about the electronic help that comes with Compressor 2:
• How often do you use the Compressor Help? Under what circumstances do you use it most?
• How do you find what you're looking for in Compressor Help: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
• What do you like about it most?
• What is missing?
• Are there any particular examples of manuals or documentation that you consider to be good models for the Compressor manual?
• What do you think is the most difficult feature/concept to grasp in Compressor?
• What's the most frustrating experience you've had with the Compressor documentation?
• Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?

Hi Guys
Let say first of all that Apples Pro Apps have changed my life. I used to be a PC user until Final Cut Pro came along. I made the switch and have never looked back. Now to your questions.
1• How often do you use the Compressor Help? Under what circumstances do you use it most?
- I use Compressor almost every day and am quite confident with it's settings so I hadn't used the help files for some time, that is until Compressor 2, where I have been using help occassionally to get used to the new interface and explore the new options.
2• How do you find what you're looking for in Compressor Help: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
- I generally start with PDF search, and if I can't find what I'm looking for I go to the index.
3• What do you like about it most?
- I can generally find what I'm looking for pretty quickly, and if I can't its probably not in the help files.
4• What is missing?
- that's a tricky one. Personally I would have liked to see a lot more information about Standards Conversion. The manual describes what the tabs do but doesn't really take you through the process of how to successfully achieve your goal. I wanted to do a PAL-NTSC conversion, I read the files, all made sense, did the conversion - it didn't work. Because I didn't go thru and check every part of every setting. It was also incredibly slow, which is a known issue with Compressor 2 so I won't bore with that. I would have liked to see some examples of the steps and settings required for standards conversion. This is just one example but I have found this in other aspects od other Pro-App manuals too - scripting in DVDSP 3&4 for example. Although everything is described in many cases there is a fundamental leap required between in info supplied in the manual and how the practically apply the info to your project. This is where these forums are invaluable - when I get stuck on a problem and can't solve it via the manual, I turn to the forums, which in conjunction with the manual gets me to where I want to go.
5• Are there any particular examples of manuals or documentation that you consider to be good models for the Compressor manual?
I think the Final Cut Pro manual gets pretty close. Once again I haven't needed to refer to it for a long time but when I did I seem to remember always being able to solve my problem - I didn't start using the forums intensively until I began using DVDSP and Compressor intensively and I use FCP every day also.
6• What do you think is the most difficult feature/concept to grasp in Compressor?
- Coming from the previous release I think the interface was pretty daunting, the new release has addressed this very well. I think that it's hard to appreciate what you don't undersatnd about transcoding until you need to work outside the presets to acheive your results and then its a steep learning curve. Like anything though, the more you challenge yourself the more you learn.
7• What's the most frustrating experience you've had with the Compressor documentation?
- I recently needed to create a mixed angle DVD for a client and after going over and over the manuals for both DVDSP and Compressor and rigidly following all the requirements for encoding the mpegs I was repeatedly unsuccessful, as I was with several other encoding applications. Eventually I was successfull encoding the footage thru QT mpeg exporter. I feel that although on the surface of things Compressor should be able to perform the function required to produce the mpegs I needed for the job, and all the documentation stated that it would, on a practical level it did not. It made me wonder whether the process had ever been tested before the applications release. Which did make me wonder how many other times this may also be the case.
8• Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
I like having both - I would rather read of paper than the screen so if I can look something up via the bo

  • Trying to make a decision; input wanted

    some background- i'm a high end freelance retoucher by trade and my 21"crt is beginning to get tired (color issues and i feel cramped) and i would really like to upgrade to a 23/24" widescreen lcd. i don't have room on my desktop to do 2 monitors, and i want more room on my screen is why i'm not interested in a 21". a 24" would fit perfectly, but a 30" would be too big. i don't game, but occasionally might watch dvd's. dragging lag may bother me since i'm used to a sony crt but i'm hoping i'll get used to it (but i don't want to go with a crt again- too clunky). the one thing about an lcd that concerns me is the viewing angle and how much the color changes if i move my head around a little, and i'd love to hear views on this. i do browse the web a good bit in addition to work and want something i can be comfortable working on for 8-10 hrs at a time if need be. i want at least a 3 yr warrantee, which rules out apple (i'm NOT paying more to get the warrantee that sould come with it). one of my clients has an apple 23" (i think) and i never noticed lag or view angle problems with his, so i have worked on lcd's before. i've read all the posts on here that pertain, and on other sites and am stuck.
    the two monitors i've narrowed it down to are the benq FP241W and the Samsung 244T, both around $850, are very comparable in features, and both getting good user reviews, at least the few that are posted. haven't found anywhere locally that i can go and actually see them side by side or individually to get a sense. i considered the apple 23", but it seems as though the complaints outnumber the occolades at this point, plus the warrantee bites. the dell sounds like a bad deal with the whining issues ( i can't stand high frequency noise) and the dead pixel/ banding issues. i'd love to able to afford an eizo or lacie, but really don't want to spend that much money at this point, especially given that my main client doesn't need absolutely perfect color. in fact, most of my clients don't; almost always they are going to the press house after me and correcting for that press. right now i eyeball my color and have had excellent results, but am willing to get a calibrator. the few that don't and want super accurate color i always recommend getting a colormatched proof locally. the other thing about the eizo that i haven't been able to ferret out is if it's mva, pva or ips. i read in one place that it was a pva, and haven't heard back from eizo when i emailed them directly. i was reading that eizo has some new developments coming down the pike, and maybe in a yr or 2 or 3 i would be willing to spring for the extra money and pass along the 24" to my kids, but for now i just don't want to spend that much money, even for the awesome qualities & warrantee. especially since i'd like to get one of the new quads in about a yr so i can work faster on some of the big files i use and hope to upgrade to leopard when it comes out. only so much $ for stuff like that to go 'round!
    so, any thoughts- good or bad about any of this?

    Well the black and white books are basically that... a different color. Also the black one has a 80GB HD instead of 60 of the white. But they're both 2GHz Core Duo processors and have Superdrives (CD-R,DVD-R+R/RW).
    The "other" white one has a 1.83GHz processor (which I don't think would make much difference between it and the 2) and a CD-R/RW). So that's what it boils down to. Do you think you'd like to have the ability to burn DVD's? Not earth shattering but then again they make excellent backup schemes.
    I'd certainly not order the MacBook from Apple with extra RAM (or HD for that matter). You could probably do it yourself (or someone even remotely mechanical could do it for you) and you'll save tons of money instead of having to buy Apple's RAM.
    Using it for what you want to do won't be real taxing but get at least a 1GB of RAM. If it were me and I had access to another computer to run that Windows software on that's what I'd do. Not that BootCamp or Parallels don't work well (they seem to be fine) but I wouldn't waste my HD space for a whole install of Windows just to run one application (which may or may not have a Mac alternative) when you've got another computer to run it on. Not installing that may make the larger HD point moot.
    Hope that helps you a little.

  • Compressor stops halfway - Computer wants to restart

    I have a mid-2006 17" Intel Core Duo iMac with Snow Leopard installed. I'm having problems with Compressor (3.0.5) being able to completely export a 2 and half hour video from Final Cut Pro. Like I said, the film I'm compressing is 2.5 hours of HD video (down-converting to SD) and I am using the "DVD Best Quality 150 minutes" settings - both the Dolby Digital Professional 2.0 (for audio) and MPEG-2 3.7Mbps 2-pass (for video).
    Compressor's estimated time for completing both of these jobs is a few days... so I've let my computer sit and work on these all through the day and night.
    One morning I woke up and I saw the following on the screen:
    "You need to restart your computer. Hold the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button." (kernel panic?)
    So I do this, the computer restarts, and I find (as expected) that the jobs in Compressor never finished. The audio file of my film was completed, but the video file was not.
    I've downloaded and installed the "Compressor fix" patch, but I've had no luck when I retried compressing the video. I've also looked into forums and found QMaster related issues, but that doens't seem to be a problem either. I'm guessing that maybe something with Snow Leopard isn't compatible with Compressor, seeing that I've never had this problem before. (although I've never tried compressing 2.5 hours of HD video)
    Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thanks!

    Can you post a log of your kernel panic? You can find that in the console Diagnostic Information > System Diagnostic Reports. Please copy and paste the kernel panic log in here.
    *I suspect* that the Java used in Compressor 3.0.5 uses some pre-1.6 calls, and this may be related to these problems; I've been having kernel panics with it too. Apparently some Bluetooth and Camino aspects also can cause this... because they make Java calls that Snow Leopard doesn't like. THIS IS JUST A SPECULATIVE HYPOTHESIS on my part... but it makes sense... nobody with Compressor 3.5 has this problem after all. I'm going to test this theory later.

  • Use of wsdl:documentation tag in my WSDL.

    Hi
    I am stuck with this issue for a long time now. i have searched the net and not found any satisfactory solution for my issue.
    i will describe it below.
    In my application i am generating the WSDL from the server-config.wsdd file. For the WSDL to be generated the server needs to be up all the time as i am not storing the WSDL in seperate location.
    All is working well but i need to insert the documentation tag in the operation element .like this
    <operation name="queueCall">
    <documentation>Pushes the given call in the call queue</documentation>
    <input message="tns:callInfoRequest"/>
    <output message="tns:callRecordResponse"/>
    <fault name="callManagerFault" message="tns:callManagerFault"/>
    </operation>
    I need to get the <documentation> tag in my WSDL which i am not getting currently . Can anybody let me know how this is to be done . are there any specific tools that do this . Should we manually edit the WSDL to put this documentation tag.
    Any help in this regard will be very helpful to me as i need to get a soultion for this issue.
    Thanks & regards

  • AWESOME: Compressor 2 and 3rd Party Plugins

    Hi all
    I must admit there was an unexpected amount of positive interest to my detailed post last week on using Compressor and Final Cut Pro in tandem to encode different media types.
    As a result, I would like to share the results of some of the research we have been conducting over the last week with the community. This has been research with respect to Final Cut Pro 5, and its integrated Compressor 2 workflows.
    Let me recap the reason for the research.
    In my opinion, one of the most powerful things about QuickTime is that it is not a media format, but rather a media architecture. It has had extensibility considered as a pivotal feature, from a very early point in development.
    QuickTime allows addition of different formats via way of modules. Third party developers can literally produce a module to allow QuickTime to export media of any kind of format, no matter how foreign or how proprietary.
    Some of the more popular additional formats and plug-ins available today:
    • Real Media - use the free Real Media export plug-in - check out:
         -- http://www.realnetworks.com/products/realexport/
    • Windows Media Option #1 - Popwire's - check out:
         -- http://www.popwire.com/productinfo.php?productsid=7
    • Windows Media #2 - Flip4Mac - check out:
         -- http://flip4mac.com/
    After download and installation, these plug-ins allow us to export from any QuickTime enabled application: including Final Cut Pro.
    But the strange thing, for me at least, was that we could export using QuickTime conversion in Final Cut Pro, but not via Compressor. Compressor v1 did not support QuickTime Export Component Plug-Ins.
    Many people, myself included, were bothered by the additional workflow required to output to third party QuickTime Export Component Plug-Ins. It meant that Compressor couldn't be trusted to do everything… And, for me, it meant the unenviable task of having to re-install the bane of my life: Discreet Cleaner 6…
    I had so wished I could bid the old crusty girl good-bye…
    Without access to QuickTime Export Component Plug-Ins in Compressor 2, an even bigger issue arises, as Compressor 2 now has distributed processing! And as such there are definite differences in performance when making the choice to encode to another format from Final Cut Pro:
    • File > Export > Export via QuickTime Conversion… -- same as usual
    • File > Export > Export via Compressor… -- now supports distributed processing
    So, on opening up the Compressor 2 documentation, I see with great joy:
    <small>Installing QuickTime Export Component Plug-Ins
    The export component feature in Compressor was developed to make it possible to add additional export plug-ins in the future. You would simply install the third-party software and then choose the corresponding output file format from the Encoder Type pop-up menu in the QuickTime Export Components Encoder pane of the Inspector window.</small>
    That said, I immediately got into touch with the following, and sought their advice as to whether their plug-ins would be supported in Compressor 2:
    • Real Media
    At the moment neither QuickTime 7 nor Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is supported by the free Real Media export plug-in, but they are working on it and expect to release an update soon.
    • Popwire
    Whilst they are currently working on an update to enable QuickTime 7 / Mac OS X 10.4 support, I did get the following prompt and courteous reply from Albert Bruhner at Popwire:
    <small>We don't have any official support for that [ie. integration with Compressor 2] today. You are welcome to download and try though. The WMV-9 Component is available as demo which you are welcome to try.
    We will start testing this though. But we do have our Compression Master which wouldn't sell if we did plug-ins that did all that with other programs. So we don't have any priority to do that.</small>
    [Continued…]

    [Continued from post above…]
    Fair enough, and thank you Albert for the prompt post!
    • Flip4mac
    A much more positive and promising, and equally prompt response here from Joyce Garrett:
    <small>Yes, we're happy to be able to tell you that Compressor 2 supports the Flip4mac product family. You might want to download the Trial version of the Flip4mac WMV Studio/Studio Pro to test it.
    The Trial version will allow you to play back one-half the duration of the source file and export a 30 second WMV file. Once installed, you will be able to export WMV files from Compressor 2 to test the functionality.
    I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results!</small>
    I am sure I will be too, Joyce! Thank you.
    So there you have it:
    • WMV-9 can definitely be exported via Compressor and Flip4mac's plug-in
    • WMV-9 might be exported via Compressor and Popwire's plug-in
    • Real may one day be exported via Compressor and Real's plug-in
    I am going to be conducting exhaustive testing on these over the next week, and if there is interest, I will report the results in terms of quality and performance.
    For me, it is very exciting, as we will be able to produce presets and job templates with groups of each of these, and apply them to sequences we encode.
    Imagine a one step encoding job for a HD sequence that does the following:
    • Encodes to a self contained SD DV movie in NTSC and PAL
    • Encodes 3 versions in QuickTime/H.264 (High, Med, Low bandwidth)
    • Encodes 3 versions to Real (High, Med, Low bandwidth)
    • Encodes 3 versions to WMV (High, Med, Low bandwidth)
    • Encodes MPEG-2 and AC-3 for SD DVD
    • Encodes HD H.264 and AC-3 for HD DVD
    • Encodes a mastering/archival self-contained version for in native HD
    Just send the sequence to compressor, apply a job template, and begin rendering. And vest of all, Compressor now has the smarts to farm out that work to all the spare Macs in the studio…
    And no more Cleaner! More time for lunch!
    Man I love it… I think it is by far the most significant update to all the apps in FCP Studio…
    I hope everyone gets to benefit from these excellent changes.
    In the meantime, i will commence testing, and will keep you all informed!
    Regards
    Peter

  • Encodeing through Compressor: Will not export 16:9

    I am exporting clips for YouTube and want to use Compressor so I have a setting I can use all teh time without having to input the setting my company uses. Before YouTube went widescreen, everything was peachy keen. But now we have to export 16:9 no matter what.
    The problem I have is no matter how I change the settings, when exported using Compressor (either from FCP or from a file), it squashes it to 4:3. I know this because our clients are getting smart and want the 16:9 so we produce it. But a few want 4:3 but want it to fill YouTube. So I have even edited it using anamorphic wide screen, exported it wide screen, and no matter What, Compressor still exports it at 4:3.
    I have told it 100% of source (it picks a ratio), I have told it 720:480 Anamorphic, 640:480 16:9, even cropping it. Nothing works.

    That is where you go wrong. Web video is supposed to be square pixels, not anamorphic.
    If you want to letterbox your 16:9 video in a 4:3 frame, I would recommend nesting your anamorphic sequence in a non-anamorphic sequence in FCP before choosing File > Export > Using Compressor. There is a bug in the current version of Compressor. When adding padding in the Geometry tab, the letterboxed area becomes dark gray, and not black like it should be. Until this is fixed, I would not recommend applying padding.
    If you just want regular 16:9, set the width you want i.e. 640 and set the Frame Size to Custom (16:9) in the Geometry-settings in Compressor.

  • Vocal Compressors (Hardware)

    Hello,
    New Mac user here. Picked mine up on this past Saturday. I can't believe you "Apple People" were right this whole time...this thing is incredible!
    One of the things I am amazed at is the power of GarageBand. Considering the program came installed, a convert such as myself is amazed at how fantastic it is.
    I do have a hardware question though. In my spare time I enjoy recording music with a good friend of mine. I plan to record a bit of everything (guitar, bass, vocal and likely some basic drums down the road - not a concern atm). At this point, I have my Line6 POD running direct into the line-in, which works for guitar, bass (sorta), and for crappy vocal place holders with my CAD$30 Sony mic. I just finished reading the very helpful post on Audio Interfaces, but I am curious about Vocal Compression. I have read that hardware compression is the best bet. Assuming that I have around USD$200 to spend, and that I pick up an m-Audio 410 (firewire) with the free condenser mic, what are some good compressors to look at? Also, as a recording newbie, what would the connection chain look like (ie: mic->compressor->interface->firewire input)?
    Thanks very much in advance,
    Matt

    Hi Nuff. Welcome to the wonderful world of Macs Great to have you here!
    "I can't believe you "Apple People" were right this whole time...this thing is incredible!"
    Shhhhh! ...not so loud... We don't want all the peecee people to be buying Macs as their 'don't-go-to-the-dark-side peecee attitude' can be a great source of entertainment
    "I have read that hardware compression is the best bet."
    Yes. There are currently some very nice compressors on the market, but they are still a bit pricey. Most of the ones worth buying today are in the 500-900 price range so you may want to stay with software based options, or buy a used compressor from a music store. The least expensive good quality compressor would be the M-Audio TAMPA Pro with Class A circuitry. I think it's going for around 399.00. It will also give you the very warm sonic characteristics of vacuum tube triodes. I am currently in the middle of writing a special article on the art of recording and processing vocals. It goes into detail about compression and micing techniques, as well as general compressor settings and tips on adjusting compressor Attack and Release settings and it also explains when and why to use "soft knee" on your vocals. You should be able to read it at Planet GarageBand in the next week or so. You will want to set your compressor after the pre-amp section. The compressor manual will have detailed instructions on how to set it up. The easiest way to think of a compressor is that it's like an invisible hand on a volume control. You tell it what the maximum volume should be, and it will remember and watch that level for you. If the volume goes over that pre-set setting the compressor will automatically reduce the level for you. However if you set the levels wrong you will get a 'pumping' effect. You'll always want to first get the cleanest vocal recordings possible, because there are just some things you just can't "fix in the mix". Just remember that compression cannot be undone so use it sparingly for best results.

  • What are the advantages of compressor and it it even necessary

    what are the advantages of compressor and it it even necessary?

    Necessary for some and not for others – probably a large majority – who can by with the presets avalaible in FCX.
    The users who need Compressor are those who want to control the parameters of the encodes to get the best possible trade-off between file size and quality. Or those who want to do things like standards conversions, complex frame speed changes, better re-scaling capabilities, de-interlacing, re-interlacing, output formats beyond which are available in FCX, chapter markers for DVD and Blu-Ray authoring, batch conversions for multiple purposes through droplets, access to clusters for faster rendering.

  • SSIS Web Service Complex Type Inputs

    Hi,
    I am trying to make a call to a third-party web service in my SSIS package.  The request has custom complex data type as the parameter.  As has been pointed out in this forum before, the Web Service Task only lets you assign the outside parameter from a variable, not the internal parameters needed to create the complex data type.
    To be more specific, the web service input wants a 'ContactSearchRequest' parameter.  I can assign this from a variable.  If I click on the 'value' field under the 'Input' section for the web service task, it shows me that the 'ContactSearchRequest' data type is made up of the following:
    contactId - long
    numResults - int
    offset - int
    passKey - string
    searchParam - string
    sortType - int
    Unfortunately, I can't assign these internal parameters from a variable, at least not through the web service task interface.
    My next thought was to create a variable of type 'object' and then set it in a script task prior to calling the web service task.  However, I'm not sure exactly how to do this.  How will my script know about the class definition of 'ContactSearchRequest'?  Do I just create a class called 'ContactSearchRequest'?
    I've used this same web service in a .NET C# project and after I imported the web service, visual studio knew all about the custom data types.  How do I do something similar in SSIS?
    Of course, the easiest solution would for Integration Service to allow me to set those internal parameters via variables, but we're apparently not there yet.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Trey

    Hi All,
    I am trying to pull the data from a webservice. The method expects 5 parameters out of which one is a complex type. And it is fine to pass Null value for this parameter.
    The method expects a complex data type UrlReportFilter
    as follows:
    <simpleType name="UrlReportFilterOperatorEnum">
     <restriction base="xsd:string">
    <enumeration value="contains"/>
    <enumeration value="starts_with"/>
    <enumeration value="ends_with"/>
    <enumeration value="not_contains"/>
    <enumeration value="not_starts_with"/>
    <enumeration value="not_ends_with"/>
    <enumeration value="match_regular_expression"/>
    <enumeration value="not_match_regular_expression"/>
    <enumeration value="exact_match"/>
    </restriction>
    </simpleType>
    <complexType name="UrlReportFilter">
    <sequence>
    <element name="caseSensitive" type="xsd:boolean"/>
    <element name="operand" nillable="true" type="xsd:string"/>
    <element name="operator" nillable="true" type="akaaimsdt:UrlReportFilterOperatorEnum"/>
    </sequence>
    </complexType>
    How to assign values and use this in VB.NET code?
    I am using following code to assign the values to the properties in VB.NET code in Script task but it is throwing the error below:
     Dim vUrlFilter As New Akamine.UrlReportFilter With {.caseSensitive = False, .operand = ""}
    Error: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: AWSFault:Error in processing:(com..aws.services.exceptions.InvalidColumnException: Invalid column:
    for report:H
    Any help on this would be appreciated!!
    Thanks,

  • Getting 6.9gb DVDSP proj, 2hr Video, to fit 4.7gb disk without Compressor

    I have no menus in this DVD at all. Track is first play, with loop.
    Yes, my audio is aif, but it cant add up to >2gb difference for AC3?
    QT DVNTSC movie is 25GB to start.
    Compressor, not loading for some reason.
    Can I make it fit, just using DVDSP 3?
    When I change the bit rates in DVDSP encoder window, it doesn't show a change in size.
    As it will take several hours to create, I wanted to check first if there is something I can do, or feel confident that changing the bitrate to say, 4- 4.5 max, will do it, even if it doesn't show it.
    I don;t want to have to reprocess it with Toast to make it fit to disk.
    Any suggestions besides the AC3 thing? Remember, no compressor.
    I have ffmpegx that I've used for other conversions, but not DVD, and cleaner, which I've never used.
    Help! I don't know why this is happening. Under 2 hr projects have always auto fit in these projects for me.

    Ok
    Thanks for the responses.
    I got Compressor reinstalled, and A.Pack too.
    Compressor as you noted, wants to encode 120 minutes at 3.5, but as you said if the audio is AC3, then I can try 4.8, and I assume once it's in DVDSP it will fit.
    I imagine that this is a four step process: 1) export my audio from my QT movie; 2) encode it as AC3; encode QT video with Compressor at the recommended settings; 4) import both audio and video separately into DVDSP and burn.
    A couple of things...
    First, my project files are 640x480. There doesn't seem to be anyway in Compressor to set this. It seems to automatically be set to 720x480. Will it then stretch out the video?
    Also, I can't seem to get A.Pack to do anything. I selected open from the file menu. It didn't see my movie files. I exported the audio as aif, and it still doesn't see them to open. There is no help menu. Can you direct me to how I can use, or find out how to use, this app?
    Thanks again.

  • Compressor wont compress

    everything was going fine until yesterday...
    when i export files from FCP to compressor, i can input the settings, submit etc.
    but nothing happens, usually i get the swirly balls of death. It makes FCP "not respond" until i quit compressor.
    ive rebooted, i looked for preferences to trash or anything but could find nothing. i am working on time sensitive projects and feel like i could be in big trouble...any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Have you tried resetting background processing?

    Have you installed any updates since yesterday?
    What formats are your sources and what are you compressing to?
    Are you submitting your batch to a cluster or just locally?

  • Can I Encode to These Settings with Compressor??

    Greetings,
    I need some help from you good people.
    I have been tasked with preparing our video program for an SD Television Broadcast.
    In my many years of using Final Cut, I have never had to export for an official SD Broadcast.  So I declare up front that this is a new world for me from web and DVD creation.
    But I seem to be having a hard time matching all of these settings using an MPEG-2 Transport Stream in Compressor.  So I want to know if I can use Compressor to match these settings or will I miss some of what the station wants?
    I've tracked down most of the major settings in Compressor.  I highlighted below in bold and red what I am having trouble with.
    I will also add that I was trying to work with the GOP I and P frames settings but do not see a choice for selecting 1 frame for each one.
    Most of my other issues are with the audio settings.  I went to "Extras" and selected Multiplex but don't have any other control over the audio.
    So any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!
    These are the requirement sent from the station:
    (BOLD AND RED are what I need help with)
    VIDEO:
    MPG TYPE: MPG-2
    STREAM TYPE: PROGRAM (VIDEO + AUDIO)
    VIDEO RESOLUTION: 720x480
    FRAME RATE: 29.97 (NON-DROP) 4:3 DISPLAY
    FIELD ENCODING: TOP FIELD FIRST
    DEINTERLACING: USE TOP FIELD
    BITRATE TYPE: VARIABLE (If they say a variable type, why would they state a Constant Bit Rate below??)
    RATE CONTROL MODE: MODE 1
    CBR BITRATE: 8000Kbps
    GOP STRUCTURE:
    I FRAMES: 1
    P FRAMES:  1
    PROFILE ID: 4:2:2
    LEVEL ID: MAIN LEVEL
    AUDIO: MPEG 1
    AUDIO MODE: MPEG LAYER 2
    AUDIO FREQUENCY: 48000 HZ STEREO
    BITRATE: 256 KBPS* VARIABLE BITRATE EMBEDDED
    MODE: STEREO
    NO DE-EMPHASIS
    MULTIPLEXING TYPE: MPG-2
    Thanks in advance!
    -Al

    Disclosure: I haven't prepared a show for SD Broadcast either, but have been working with Compressor/DVDStudio Pro for a decade.
    Looking at the specs, there are only a couple of unclear areas...  the big thing is, they're asking for a Program Stream rather than Elementary Streams.
    I looked into that codec and it seems capable of handling the task once you clear up the VBR/CBR and interlace/de-interlace questions.
    Good luck!

  • Technical documentation for ADF projects - how to and best practices

    Hi,
    I have a question how to create technical documentation for ADF project expecialy ADF BC and ADF Faces. Is there any tool or JDev plugin for that purpose? What informations should contains documentation for that project, any principles ?Has anybody any experienece. Are there something like documentation best practices for ADF projects? E.g. how to create documentation for bussiness components.
    Kuba

    I'm not sure there is "best practices" but some of the things that can help people understand are:
    An ADF BC diagram - this will describe all your ADF BC objects - just drag your components into a new empty diagram
    A JSF page flow - to show how pages are called.
    Java class diagram - for Java code that is not in the above two
    One more thing to consider - since ADF BC, JSF page flow and JSPX pages are all XML based - you could write XSL files that will actually transform them into any type of documentation you want.

  • Documentation for the As-Is and To-Be process.

    Can any one send some material regarding how to write documentation for the AS-IS and TO-BE business process for the business blue print.
             My requirement is to <u>automate the process which are receiving goods from the gate entry to GR level and finally posting goods issue</u> all should done automatically .
    Now we are gathering  information from the client according to their business process.
    Our client is digital meter product based company.
    Its an urgent thanks in advance.

    Probably the best thing to do is go to your boss/team lead/project manager/client contact and ask them what documentation they want you to produce and what should go in it.  No-one here can guess at that.

    What type of file is the source media? What resolution? If it's HD 1280x720, for example, or if it's already been encoded as one format (MP4, H.264, etc), you're asking Compressor to shrink the file and re-encode, which can take time.
    Also, if you have an older machine with 2 or less processors, they can heat up very quickly in which case it can take a VERY long time to compress. If your computer is super hot, I'd suggest trying to get a fan or place it on an AC vent - something to help cool it down to speed rendering.
