  • How do I use existing sync key after Windows clean install?

    Hi,
I had setup Firefox Sync on my old Windows 7 install and I have the Sync Key given during the set up. I had to clean install (format C drive) my Windows.
Is there any way I can use the old Sync Key to get all my bookmarks and stuff back?

    The problem has resolved itself...
...despite spending several pointless hours trying to delete the existing BootCamp drivers without success, I finally restarted Windows yet again - and this time I was easily able to delete the existing drivers.
I then restarted my Mac, installed the latest drivers without issue and it all works just fine.
    Windows, eh?!

I have a sync key, and have a new computer terminal, but when I enter the account details I created, it syncs nothing with my new computer. How do I fix this? There is nothing showing up when I sync with the sync key from my old terminal.

I recently had to do a wipe on my laptop. I saved the sync key but there was no mention of a sync account prior to doing the wipe. I saved the key and when I did the wipe it asked me to make an account, which I had not done, but now I am seeing no where to put in a sync key code. did they make them unusable now or something?

You are probably trying to use old Sync with Firefox newer than version 29,
and they did make old Sync unusable on fresh installations of newer Firefox.
You can uninstall that newer Firefox, then install Firefox 29 from here:
    https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/29.0.1/
Apply your sync key code, then update that installation to current Firefox,
    then migrate to new Sync:

  • Synced firefox, saved firefix sync key and made format to my computer, now I can't get it synced with formated computer - what can I do to get my passwords and bookmarks back?

I synced my firefox and made format to my computer. I was hoping I can sync formated computer with my user. I even saved "firefox sync key". But now I can only make new sync and can' get my old passwords and bookmarks back. Is there any way i could get my passwords and bookmarks back?

Add that computer to the Sync service as a new device.

  • My original computer is no longer available, how do I reset my sync key?

I am no longer able to access the original computer so I can't determine what my sync key is. I need a new sync key with my existing mozilla account.

It needs to be connected to a network to have a chance of locating it - which could be wifi or 3G (if it's a 3G model). And that also applies to if it is rebooted, it would still need to be connected to a network after it reboots. If the iPad is reset (i.e. wiped) then you won't be able to locate it as your info will have been removed from it. If it is lost in another state then you may still be able to locate it (with the above network proviso), but as to whether you could then get it back would depend upon the police in the other state.

  • My computer crashed and I lost everything. It was the only computer with Sync on it and I cannot get my recovery key: how can I get all my bookmarks from that Sync account?

My computer crashed and I lost everything. It was the only computer with Sync on it and I cannot get my recovery key: how can I get all my bookmarks from that Sync account? I have a ton of bookmarks/saved password and the only way to get on sync is create a new recovery key and lose all of my information.
Is there any way to get my stuff back without creating a new recovery key and losing all my old stuff?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a  backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • I lost all my Firefox Sync data on my computer, but still have it on my phone. Is there any way to get my sync key off of my phone?

My Android phone has Firefox installed, and is connected to Sync. Somehow, I lost all of my Firefox data (I think I know how this happened, and I'm going to address that problem with my computer next). Is there any way to pull the sync key off of my phone, since in a house-keeping frenzy I apparently deleted the sync key from my computer?

    No, there is not.
    Sorry.

  • My other computer died and have my bookmark synced setup, however, I no longer have access to sync key and I do not want to generate a new key and erase my old bookmarks. How do I retrieve them?

My other computer died and have my bookmark synced with Firefox sync, however, I no longer have access to sync key and I do not want to generate a new key and erase my old bookmarks. How do I retrieve them?

Sorry, without the Sync Key you can't use Sync to recover your personal data. If you have another device that was connected that Sync account, you can recover your Sync Key from that other device in the Password Manager on non-mobile devices. See - [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-manage-my-firefox-sync-account?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=where-can-i-find-my-firefox-sync-key#w_where-can-i-find-my-recovery-key this].
''Firefox Sync wasn't intended to be a "backup" medium, it was made to keep certain data synchronized between multiple devices.'' That "key" is used to encrypt your data before being uploaded to the Sync server and decrypt the data as it is downloaded to one of your devices. Only you have access to that "key", to maintain security over your data no one else knows that "key".
If you still have that old PC or the hard drive from that old PC, you can connect it to the new PC via USB with a USB enclosure, and you should be able to recover that data if the hard drive didn't fail.<br />

  • Computer crashed and I dont know my sync key. and I want to sync my old bookmarks.

I recently had my school computer crash. right after i set up my sync account. I do not know where I saved my sync key but I do not know it. And I would like to get my freakin bookmarks back for school and whatnot. I am kinda pissed that I couldnt just download them and save them like I have ALWAYS been able to do in the past.

    Hi emocry,
Unfortunately there's no way to recover your bookmarks without the Sync key. Your bookmarks are encrypted with it and it's not possible to read the information without the key.
For privacy reasons, Mozilla doesn't store a copy of any Sync Key so we are unable to provide you a copy of yours. Take in count the primary goal of Sync is to have your browsing information synched in all your devices and not to be a back-up system.
As you say, I would encourage you to have a back up of your bookmarks and of your Sync Key in a secure place.

I have a sync account and used to keep sync with Firefox server. Now computer got re-installed(OS) and want to sync data from Firefox sync server. But I am unable to setup as i don't have sync key.
I would like to just sync with Firefox Sync Server with existing account. I can not find any way out for this. please reply me on

hello, for the old sync system in firefox 28 and below you also had to sign up with a mail address and password originally - to connect firefox to the old account you would need to have all those three pieces (mail, password & recovery key) available to you unfortunately...

  • A new computer will not accept the sync key taken from an older computer for the same account on a private (Weave minimal-based) server.

I'm trying to setup my Firefox Sync account on a new computer. I'm using a custom server based on Weave Minimal. There are several other computers which have synchronizing with this server with no problems for quite some time. This new computer accepts the custom server details, connects, and asks for a sync key. However, when I enter the sync key I got from one of those other computers into this new computer, it replies "Unknown Error".
I cannot get beyond this. I've tried the sync key copied and pasted from a text file in my Dropbox. I've tried removing the hyphens. I've tried the original passphrase that I used in previous versions of Firefox Sync.
Is there some tweak I need to make to Weave Minimal to make this work or do I need to try to setup the full Weave server?

I recently had my computer cleaned out and I plugged my Iphone up and all of my music (2500 songs) are gone.  Please help

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
