Computer freezes and I think it's because of the soundca

Hey Guys,
I have a Dell XPS Gen 3:
3.6 ghz HT
024MB RAM
ATI RADEON X800XT
Audigy 2 (plain)
WinXP Home, SP
DirectX 9c
Whenever I play a game that utilizes EAX processing (Far Cry, Thief Deadly Shadows) after about 30 minutes the screen freezes, then goes blank and I hear a just a low-level hum from my speakers. I am using Logitech Z-640 speakers. I talked to Dell, and they were just twiddling their thumbs about the issue. I think it's the soundcard because when I play games that don't use EAX everything's fine, and when I turn off the EAX functions on the two mentioned games, it seems pretty stable; I've played both for at least two hours straight and no problems. But, I lose out on the beautiful Dolby 5. sound in Far Cry and as everyone knows TDS is a much poorer game with 5. sound. Doom 3 ran great in surround, but that game uses a software surround system.
I have a plain old Audigy 2, not ZS. Can anyone help me with this? It's incredibly frustrating having to save constantly (or in the case of Far Cry hoping another auto save will occur) before my computer yet again freezes! Is my card defecti've? Is there some byzantine trick I can use to fix it's I read somewhere that there's a compatibility problem with some ATI cards and the Audigy, but I have the latest drivers installed.
Thanks in advance!

Tsumake,
At this point I would make sure that all of your system's drivers are up to date including any chipset or bios updates (make sure to follow Dell's directions carefully if you choose to flash the bios). If there are any drivers for the Audigy 2 on Dell's website, use those. I would suggest not to use the drivers from the Creative website as OEM cards often use different drivers than the standard retail cards. You may also want to contact Dell as they will have more knowledge regarding specifics of this system and troubleshooting on it. Let us know how this works out for you.

  • Computer Freezes and Keyboard Stops Working

I'm having serious issues with my computer freezing and not responding. I thought that it maybe a problem with OS X so I re-installed that but to no avail that did not ameliorate the situation. Not to mention it was near impossible to re-install it because the computer would keep freezing.
Now after I start up the computer, it will begin functioning normally I can open applications, etc but after probably 5 min, regardless of what I'm doing it will freeze and the keyboard and mouse will not work.
So to restart the computer I have to hold down on the power button. But then after I have waited the recommended 30 seconds to a minute to turn it back on the computer screen won't always illuminate. So I have to wait more like 15 to 25 minutes to try and turn the computer back on then the screen will work.
I'm not sure why this is happening, I just bought this computer less than a month ago, and this "problem" just started happening a couple of days ago. I'm a little frustrated, because this computer is brand new, do you think I just got a faulty computer or what?
If anyone has any advice or knows why this is happing please let me know. Thanks.
    PowerBook G4 15-inch Titanium   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hi, Melissa, and welcome to Apple Discussions. If your computer is brand new,
    a) It's Aluminum, not Titanium. There's another set of Discussions forums that are specific to your model, and others with the same model may have suggestions for you that we Tibook owners won't.
    b) You have a warranty, and this is what it's for. Don't hesitate to report the problem to the store where you bought the computer, or by phone to Applecare.
    Good luck.

  • Computer freezing and making clicking noise

    Hi,
Every time click Safari, iMovie, or iDvd my computer freezes and starts to make this weird clicking noise (that i think is coming from the top right corner, but I'm not completely sure). Has anyone experience this problem before.
    thanks

Just these applications? Typically, a clicking noise comes from a failing hard drive. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you should check this out.

  • Just done a fresh install of Snow Leopard with all updates,iMac 5.1 behaves strange, sometimes I start Google Chrome and look at youtube videos the computer freezes and shuts down immediately, I believe its  related to overheating ?

Just done a replacement of the pata DVD drive (its new and is working ok),  and a fresh clean  install of Snow Leopard with all updates, iMac 5.1 behaves strange, sometimes I start Google Chrome and look at youtube videos the computer freezes and shuts down immediately,
I believe its  related to overheating ?
iStat Pro shows GPU diode temp at 66 C, CPU at 48 C,  Fan rpms is around 1000
    Any ideas somebody ?
The hard disk has been previously checked with state of the art techniques that have confirmed that the hard disk drive is in perfect condition.

1.5-3 minute boot up as opposed to 15-20 seconds
    And
why it takes a long time to load a lot of things.
    I have restored this
    from a time machine partition.
TimeMachine is only a backup and restore, it won't fix issues in software and according to your information, doesn't even optimize the restore for best performance on boot hard drives.
What you need to do to regain your speed is to understand how your machine works
    Why is my computer slow?
Fix any and all issues in software following this list of fixes
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then follow this defrag method I've outlined
How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
    Most commonly used backup methods
There shouldn't be need to reinstall OS X fresh unless your having file structure issues which if they are should appear when in the Steps, which then a zero erase and install will cure as well as any bad sector issues, the defrag step wouldn't be necessarry on a freshly installed system obviously as the files are written all together, not in portions all over the drive.
    Hope this assists.

  • HT3918 I upgraded to 16 mb of ram and after 10 minutes my computer freezes, and ideas?

I upgraded to 16 mb of ram and after 10 minutes my computer freezes, and ideas?  I have an imac mid 2011 21 inch.

Cause and effect points to out-of-spec memory.
Run Apple Hardware Test. Run the extended tests.
      Using Apple Hardware Test
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
If it fails the memory tests, remove the memory and re-seat it. The sockets are very "tight". Run AHT again.
If it still fails, replace your original memory. If it works, you found the problem. Buy Mac memory from Crucial or OWC / MacSales.

Means you have an incompatible Safari extension installed. Look in the /Home/Library/Safari/Extensions/ folder for the offending plug-in and delete it.

  • When I try to log in to the Centrelink site computer freezes and have to reboot router but this does not happen with Internet Explorer

Sounds like Malware or a Rootkit infection.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. • MacBook  Pro screen glitches out, gray lines appear on it then my computer freezes and must be restarted sometimes it will beep 3 times when restarting and other times it won't. Is this a virus?

I have a MacBook Pro running mavericks. Sometimes the screen glitches out, gray lines appear on it then my computer freezes and must be restarted sometimes it will beep 3 times when restarting and other times it won't. Is this a virus, software issue, water damage, etc? An error message usually appears after being restarted. It does it all the time please help.

No Virus. You have a Hardware Problem. 3 Beeps means a RAM problem. You could try Reseating the RAM is its sockets.
But that wouldn't necessarily cause the screen to Glitch Out, as you say.

  • Why since installed Lion on my IMac it happened many times that my computer freeze and I have to restart everything before something work again?

Why since installed Lion on my IMac it happened many times that my computer freeze and I have to restart everything before something work again?

To get rid of "pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet", click on Safari in the Menu bar, and select Preferences. Next select Extensions. Delete all of them. Restart Safari.
The first step in addressing the black screen is an SMC reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Why does my computer freeze and curser dissapears?

Why does my computer freeze and curser dissapears?

I had a similar problem after upgrading to Windows 7. The problem seemed to be that there was a dialog box that opened
that was not visible on the screen and it was blocking the print completion. Try this. Open the Adobe PDF Printing Preferences and clear the field "Rely on system fonts only, do not use document fonts." When I did that it solved my problem.
The unseen dialog box seems to be the fault of Windows 7, in my opinion.

I have tried to install and reset my Internet explorer several times and still have the same result, my computer freezes and then goes to blue screen and resets. I am running windows 7 64 bit and windows Internet explorer 8. I have tried to go through the adobe trouble shooting and end up with the same problem. If the Office updates have to be run through Win in Parallels, there's not really a section here that covers that , because Neither Office or Parallels are Apple products. There is only a small chance that you'll find someone with BOTH your conditions who just happend to look into a forum on older iMacs.
    Parallels has a forum here:

I think you'll get a faster response there.
