Computer turns off after start up

apple logo appears then computer shuts down why?

What model machine are you running?
Are you able to boot into Recovery System or Internet Recovery? If so, perform repair disk in Disk Utility. Your HDD may be failing.

Sounds like hardware failure. Take it in for service.

    Hello
Did you check the power saver settings?
Push he first slider far to the right up to never so that your Mac Mini never stops.
Also untick the suspend hard drive activity as soon as possible to avoid lag on your Minecraft server.

  • Computer powering off during start up- started after trying to repair HD

I was having trouble with a program on my laptop. I ran disk utilities and verified permissions and disk. Multiple permission issues were found and unable to be fixed. Next I went to verify disk and it was also unable to be repaired. I next attempted disk utilities from my leopard start up disk and got the same results. I was going to reboot from the HD and back up some things before I did anything else. (I wasn't having any issues with any other than that one program) During the reboot process it got as far as the gray screen, apple logo and wheel before the computer turned off. This process was repeated even after removing the start up disk. I have gone in to single user mode and typed this at the prompt fsck_hfs -r /dev/disk0s2 the last line then reads ** the volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired. Not sure what I should do now?
    Thanks

Verifying does little. You need to Repair Disk. So boot from your OS installer disk, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk. If DU cannot repair the disk then you will need a stronger disk repair utility like DiskWarrior.

I am trying to do a full Time Machine Backup to a new external disk. The backup starts, and it says "Time remaining about 4 days." That seems like a very long time, but the real problem is that the computer "logs off" after a few hours, and the backup stops. The system preferences are set to "Never" for Computer sleep and Display sleep. The computer does not ordinarily log off automatically, but it has done this twice since I started the Time Machine backup.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting.

  • My iphone turned off after I got off the phone. It was fully charged and it went black. I plugged it into my wall charger and my computer, but nothing has showed up, its still dead. It was totally fine before. What happened?

My iphone turned off after I got off the phone today. It was more than half way charged and it went totally black. I plugged it into my wall charger and my computer, but nothing has showed up. It doesn't register on the computer either, the charge symbol doesn't appear, and there is no apple logo to be found.  I have no idea what happened! It was totally fine before. I tried charging another ipod with my usb and wall charger to make sure that they were still working, and they weren't the problem. What happened? Is the phone dead for good? I have a 3G if that changes anything. THANKS!

Press and hold both the on/off button and the home button and release them both when the apple logo appears.  That will reboot the phone.  try that.

  • My Macbook Pro turns off during start-up

About a week ago I started up my mackbook pro and it turned off after about 2 second after the start-up tone... this happened repeatedly. I found by holding down the "ECS" or "SHIFT" on start-up it boots up but then the "Are you sure you want to shut down this computer" window appears repeatedly, even when I click cancel. If I don't click canel within about 2 seconds, the computer turns off anyway.
I left it for a day or two and then tried starting it up again... it started up fine...??? I updated the OS from Lion to Mavericks as I needed the new version of Keynote.
Another day or two later... it was tuning itself off again on startup and once booted...???
Now I am here online trying to find some answers and have reset the PRAM... its still turning off. I left it for about 5 mins while typing this discussion in and it booted OK again and is still running.
    Any suggestions?

    danyog1,
if it works for you in Safe mode, then that suggests that something that runs at startup in normal mode could be the problem. Download and install EtreCheck, and please open your own discussion and include in your initial post there the output from a run of EtreCheck.

  • Computer shuts off after Nvidia 8600M GT drivers installed

Hello, I recently used the Toshiba Recovery to start anew (out-of-the-box state) on my Satellite X205-SLi4.  The problem is, after the Nvidia drivers (for dual Nvidia 8600M GT) were installed and I rebooted, the computer turns off during startup.  I tried several times to restart, but the same thing happens.  The ONLY way that my computer will run in normal mode is to run with the standard vga driver that was present befor the Nvidia drivers were installed.
Is there a fix for this?  Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

Do you still think this is hardware related?
I do, Mia. Restoring the hard disk to its factory-new contents should result in an error-free installation, with all drivers working properly.
It's the way tech-support people verify that the hardware is okay.

While downloading the latest iTunes version, my computer turned off. When I opened iTunes, it says that "The file "iTunes Library.itl"  cannot be read  because it was created by a newer version of iTunes" Help please

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • How to turn off the "start-up vibrating"?

I've just received my 6500slide.very nice handset.
now my problem with it is like this you know every time the red button is long-pressed,either to switch on or off the handset,it will vibrate for about 0.5second together with the start-up tone. now i turned off the "start-up tone" in "settings->phone",and the music doesn't play now when switching on and off,but still it vibrates~anybody knows how to turn it off too?
also i'd like to know if there is any way to set the brightness of the screen,or to set how long the screen and keys remain lighting after slided close.it's said to be automatically set,but i feel them a little too much bright~also not so friedly to the battery.
btw,i have to say that 6500slide's profile is a mess for me.~it seems that you can change the profile sets everywhere in the phone, but none of the changes works

Simply turn off or turn down your volume before you shutdown the computer and the next time you boot, at will be gone or at least a pleasant noise instead of a vociferious one.
You can also press the mute key combo just after you press the power button at startup.

  • Touchpad/Keyboard Lock Up and Computer Turns Off By Itself

I have a Toshiba M45-S265 (approx. 3.5 years old) laptop and all of a sudden the touchpad and keyboard started locking up.  The computer seemingly continued to run in the background and I could install a wireless mouse and use that with no problem.  However, the computer also started just turning off that same day by itself.  Then when I tried to start it again, it would just immediately turn off after a second or two.
After trying to reinstall the touchpad drivers with no improvement, I did a system restore using the disk that came with the computer.  That didn't seem to fix the issue, so I thought I might have some kind of overheating problem because the computer seemed like it booted up more often if it had just been turned off for a while.  So I took the heatsink out and cleaned out a big dust ball that was definitely blocking the airflow.  Put the heatsink back in, but still was having the same issue.
I proceeded to run the restore disk again (out of better ideas at this point), but after Windows is installed it hangs up on the "starting windows" screen.  I then took everything I could out of the computer....DVD drive, modem, wireless card, memory (tried it in both slots and with each stick), but can't get it to continue.  Also, the computer still has the same issue with booting where it turns off and then I can't get it to turn on.
Any thoughts out there on what might be the issue or if there is something else I could try (besides buying a new computer)?

Make sure the CPU is making good contact with the socket. It’s possible that you accidentally pulled the CPU from the socket while removing the heatsink. Remove the heatsink again, unlock the socket, reseat the CPU and LOCK the socket. Also, when the CPU is removed, take a closer look on the pins. Hopefully the pins are not damaged.  For overheating did you also check the fan and exhaust ports to be free of debris?  Take the battery out please.  Have you checked the power adapter for signs of wear on cords.  Also, check the power slot connector on the base unit to ensure the power cord is connected firmly, no play aspect. Look for the CMOS battery and ensure it is seated firmly, let the unit charge for awhile and see if that can recharge the CMOS battery==most often a cause of sudden shut down, besides the hard drive failure condition.  When you were working on the motherboard area, did you use anti-static cable?

  • MacBook keeps turning off on start up

My problems started when I kept getting this Hal.dll error msg on starting up my MacBook pro, which I understand is a windows file since I at one time needed windows XP on my MacBook to run a certain program.
When I realized I no longer needed Windows, I started (foolishly?) deleting any and all windows files I saw in my applications folder. I Now realize that probably wasnt a good idea. Ever since doing that, i'd get the above error message when I turned my comp on.
I finally got past this by restarting in safe mode. This worked ONCE, when my ext drive wasn't handy.
When I tried restarting again in safe mode later at home, the computer now keeps turning itself off !!!
Now I get the apple icon, the spinning wheel, the status bar slowly filling, and then it all disappears and the screen goes black and the computer turns off.
I have tried numerous times with power + shift (safe), power + option        (which shows me the mac hd volume, but when I select it will still turn off), power + option+D, and power + shift +s > fsck -fy > reboot  and after all of these attempts the computer still just turns off.
At this pt I just want to get that desktop back one more time to make sure I have the files I want on my ext drive and move on.
Anyone out there have any ideas or advice on how to could get past the computer always turning off on me on start up?

This sounds like the same thing that has been happening to both my Macbook and Macbook Pro. Some others sound like they have similar problems. This is what I posted in the Macbook Pro area regarding the same symptoms. This is discouraging. These computers are expensive and they should have the bugs worked out better than this.

I wonder if I have similar problems. I have both a Macbook Pro 15" and a Macbook 13"
1st my macbook started shutting itself off unexpectedly. It got more and more frequent. I have done several fixes including: archive and install, sending it in to have a logic board replaced, downloading an updated disc utility repair, and sending it in to have a power component replaced. Now I will be sending it in for a third time and I think they will replace the Macbook machine if this repair doesn't work.
Now my Macbook Pro is doing the same thing. I have had it for about 6 months and it was running fine until now. I ran the exact same software on my 12 G-4 powerbook without any problems. One of the computer people at work said it sounds like a power problem. It happens whether it is running AC or on battery power and doesnt seem to matter what I am doing.
I am waiting for the macbook to be fixed before I address the Macbook Pro because I dont want to have both of my computers in the shop at the same time.
Any suggestions? This seems totally unacceptable for two new expensive computers.
