Concern regarding new weblog point system....

All,
Have you seen the <a href="/people/sap.user72/blog/2006/02/15/top-weblogs-of-all-time-3-to-0">blog</a> by Craig? What concerns me is the weblog point system mentioned by Craig - weblog must be "<b>live</b>" for 5 days to recieve more than 40 base points. I believe "live" will be judged based on the number of hits !!
What concerns me more is, the developer ares which has a lesses number of active users will never get a chance to grow !! I come from MDM area which got a reincarnation an year ago and even the number of users is very very less in MDM area, it still has got lot of audience during the past few months. I am the Top contributor in MDM forum with just 232 poiunts as of today. But, the fact is, I keep my sdn open almost 12 hours a day and this has been going on for an year or so.... It was/is  very hard to keep my enthusiasm alive during the initial days.
But, with the kind of point system mentioned by Craig, people like me trying very hard to keep up the enthusiasm will start losing it forever !! This type of point system is meaningful for the areas which recieve atleast 10 blogs per week ! Just to give you an idea, MDM has just 72 blogs altogether even from the days before MDM 5.5 existed....My blog on "Master Data Management & Spend Analysis" had just 1305 hits even though it was on the MDM Home page as a featured blog for 2 months !!
<b>Craig:</b> Please re-consider your decission and do not take any steps to demotivate people like me working very hard in the "developing" areas of community. Hope you understand.....:)
Any support for me???
Regards,
Rajani Kumar

I think there has been a slight misunderstanding.
"<b>LIVE</b>" means that if a blog is published on Feb. 16 then it will not be reviewed for points evaulation until Feb. 21.
Often times in the past we received multiple mails from those wanting their points immediately - this does not fly anymore the community should have a chance to review and evaluate as much as we do.
No worries for the amount of activity in each area that plays no role

  • Regarding Point SYstems on technet

    Hi Geeks and moderators,
1)Just want to know how the point system works on technet as how many points for correct, quickly answered, voted answers.
I realized have given several answers which are correct as per google information still no one marks it as answer.
So when does moderator checks them to mark them answer as we are investing bit of time for solving.. not asking for credits but for self learning we can be sure that our answer was correct ..helping in interviews:)
    2) I asked question and then one lady responded but when i ask for second time nobody is responding so when does moderatorlooks into such questions day or two or week.

The policy of individual moderators can vary, but it is recommended that they wait 5 to 7 days after the last reply before marking answers, to give the original poster time to mark answers. In the meantime, the moderator, or anyone, can mark proposed answers.
The guidance I have used is here:

  • Points System Design Flaws

I'm not here for points, and was here before the points system was enacted, and would certainly still be here if it were gone tomorrow, but what's the point of having them if they're hardly used?
It is very difficult to achieve even 10 points a day in my opinion, (which is reasonable for forum members to level up in a fair amount of time). I usually come to these forums every day, mostly to post, sometimes merely to read. However, on average days when I completely answer or help users with problems, there will be no response from such users, and especially not a thread marked as "solved" or a post marked as "helpful". This is typical from the majority of those helped here, which are one time forum users. It's pretty difficult to fix this problem, but there are other things that could be done to aid this.
Since the new system has been started, I can count the number of green stars next to one of my posts on one hand, literally. I usually make more than just a few posts a day as well. Look, I'm not trying to be stingy or greedy about points, but there's obviously a flaw regarding user interaction with the point system.
This could simply be solved by simple logic. An OP who asks a question should HAVE to answer the following each time in order to post a reply: "Has this been solved?" and furthermore specifically "By Who?", while giving the user a choice of those in the thread only.
I can't tell you the amount of "solved" threads I've seen where the person who should receive credit for solving the problem is never given points simply because the user isn't using the specific buttons on the post to specify that their question was answered, but on the reply form, which won't allow the user to choose a post from. The result, it's solved, but supposedly by no one.
Again, I'm not all about the points, but It's illogical to have a system that is so seldom used, and at times when it is, usually not accurately.
The key points here are that most people asking questions don't understand the idea of the point system. They needn't understand the idea of a point system as long as interface design is exercised properly.

    Hello Brian,
You're right, and this question has been thoroughly raised in every aspect, from the beginning in November 2005, and then some other times once in a while.
Although a nice and fun way to support the general wonderful sense of community, and a nice way to "feel thankful" together too, we all know that gaining points is not our main concern, and that there would be as much participation without, but
you're right again, if we are to use them, then they need to work as intended.
Now where I disagree with you:
"An OP [...] should HAVE to..."
In my opinion an OP should feel at ease, as much as possible, and not, like many constantly advise,
feel yet again the same kind of complication/clumsiness/heaviness feeling (s)he experiences in filling administrative or boring banking forms...
As you rightly said, OPs do not (and should not) know/learn everything about some complicated steps, just when entering a technical forum for the first(s) time(s),
especially as they are at the moment in the state of mind of a newbie who additionally is in a troubleshooting panic...
    In my opinion,
the solution should come from us, and the mods, not from the OPs.
    And the solution is simple:
    - a reintroduction of a level of awarding by peers.
Since we already know how perverted the voting system had become, I'd suggest a very limited possibility of awarding posts when not an OP: like for example only three or five "Helpful" per day.
    Software fixes priorities:
    - Now that it works better, the Points system is more easily criticizable, but the fix is not anymore so urgent in the list of fixes.
I'm sure it is still there though.
Be patient and enjoy your participation!

    Axl

  • Anyone tried the new Weblogic Scripting Tool (WLST)?

Has anyone tried using the new WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) that was recently
posted on the dev2dev WebLogic Utilities site: http://dev2dev.bea.com/resourcelibrary/utilitiestools/adminmgmt.jsp
It looks to be a handy tool that is built upon jython and enables you to easily
navigate, inspect and manipulate the WebLogic MBean tree on a running server.
It also has a nice scripting tool which allows you to convert a config.xml file
into a script that can be run to recreate a domain or specific resources within
the domain. This is exactly something I have been looking for because we occasionally
recreate domains or subsets of a domain for testing and POC purposes.
The utility is fairly well documented and works well for the most part. The only
issue I have run into so far is that is does not seem to understand JMS Distributed
Destinations. When I try to convert a config.xml that contains a DD to a script
it throws a null pointer exception. I have not tried a cluster yet.
I noticed the utility was authored by someone at BEA. Is there potential that
BEA will support this in the future if it catches on? Has anyone had experience
with WLST or jython that would cause you to reccomend (or not) using it?
    Thanks.

    Darryl,
Thanks for the valuable feedback. My comments are inline.

As a fairly long time wlshell user who recently started testing wlst there are
few features I have found lacking in wlst.
    1. For monitoring purposes I am frequently using the -g and -r options to wlshell's
get command for graphing and repeating respectivelyI haven't looked at -g and -r options in wlshell, but will do so.
Although there is no graphical monitoring of attributes in wlst, but
there is certainly some monitoring capability (which will be enhanced
further in the coming version). Please take a look at the
    monitorAttribute() function.
    wls:/(offline)> help('monitorAttribute')
    Description:
Monitors the specified attribute every by polling every interval.
    Syntax:
    monitorAttribute(attributeName, interval, monitorFile)
attributeName = Name of the attribue that you would like to monitor.
interval = Time (in seconds) to wait before the next fetch
monitorFile=[optional] File path where the monitored data will be
    written to.
    Example:
    wls:/mydomain/runtime/ServerRuntimes/myserver/ExecuteQueueRuntimes/weblogic.kernel.Default>
    monitorAttribute("ServicedRequestTotalCount",10)
    Press Return to quit monitoring
    Monitoring started for attribute ServicedRequestTotalCount
    wls:/(offline)>
    >
    2. wlshell 2.0 adds the option when connecting to the admin server to also connect
to all managed servers in that domain. This is a nice feature for monitoring because
you then have access to all the runtime mbeans in each managed serverYes, this indeed seems to be a very nice feature. We will consider this
    for our next release.
    >
    3. There is not a good way to pass cmd line options(variables) to wlst. In wlshell
I can send cmd line options via -v. I have tried something similar with wlst using
-loadProperties but this is a little laborious because I do not necessarily want
to create a properties file when a passing in only one or two variables. Also
I find loadProperties lacking somewhat (see 4 below)ok, I just realised that there is indeed a bug in wlst where the command
line arguments are not being honored. In Jython one can access the
command line arguments from the sys.argv variable. For example,
    java weblogic.WLST -i foo.py var1 var2 var3
Initializing WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) ...
Welcome to Weblogic Server Administration Scripting Shell
Type help() for help on available commands
    wls:/offline> print sys.argv
    ['foo.py', 'var1', 'var2', 'var3']
    wls:/offline>
But this isn't working properly, please keep using the loadProperties
    untill this has been fixed.
    >
    4) loadProperties treats all created variables as strings. While this is understandable
from the perspective that getProperty returns a string, it would be nice if wlst
was smart enough that when a property is numbers only its an int, otherwise a
    string etc.
wlshell does this logic/conversion for you which really simplifies calling methods
that expect the particular datatype. To get around this problem you can create a script file say,
    variables.py which would look like,
    # variables that will be used
    theInterpreter.set('var1',10)
    theInterpreter.set('var2','i am a string')
    java weblogic.WLST variables.py
Initializing WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) ...
Welcome to Weblogic Server Administration Scripting Shell
Type help() for help on available commands
    wls:/(offline)> print var1
    10
    wls:/(offline)> print var2
    'i am a string'
    >
    5. I'd like to be able to send cmd output etc to a file while running within wlst.
In wlshell its a simple as adding >> filename to the end of the command. In wlst it is not as simple as doing >>, it is more than that. You can
choose any output stream to direct your output to. In your case you can
create a FileOutputStream and route the output to this stream for any
    particular command.
    Example,
    # create a file output stream say fos
    from java.io import FileOutputStream
    fos = FileOutputStream("output.txt")
    # save the default output stream to a variable to
    # switch it back
    sys.stdout=fos
    # Now all output for any function will go to output.txt
    ls()
    cd('foo')
    # after done with your functions switch it back
    sys.stdout=origOutput
This is the right Jython way to do it. This works for all output streams
, very useful when you embed an interpreter in a servlet and would like
to display the output via a PrintStream etc.
    >
    >
All in all wlst is a nice tool. Personally if the above features were added it
would be much easier to transistion to wlst for good.
Also I really like the wlst offline tool. Its nice to be able to do the whole
create and configure domain process with one tool. Will this be supported. Yes indeed. We are working on merging both the tools into one.
    I do
not want to rely on it too much if it will not work in future weblogic versions. It will be supported in future release of weblogic.

  • Any enhancement to increase pick time, do not want new shipping point

Have 1 customer that requires a longer picking time, prefer not to create a new shipping point for a one off case.
Would perfer to write an enhancement so the material availability date is 5 days before goods issue date (5 days pick time) instead of our normal 1 day.  A new ship point would work great with 5 days pick time but big change for users.
    Thanks,

    Hi Glenn,
SAP System considers the picking time maintained on the shipping point(OVXD) while giving the Material availability date. Picking date is same as material availability date by defualt. Then it will take picking time as 1day( If you have maintained picking time as 1 day on shipping point) and  gives the loading date. you ask your abaper to hard code  the material availability date (overwrite the praposed date by 4 days for particular customer) in "userexit_move_fields_vbep".Kindly please let me know If you need any more help.

  • New earning points policy!!!

I haven't used my Best Buy credit card in about a year because I save my big purchases for it. I like to pay off the purchases before I get another one. Needless to say when my tv broke and I needed a new one,of course I would go to Best Buy. I like using my card having time to pay off the purchase and get points and certificates so I can spend MORE money in the store. Come to find out you changed the policy so not only could I not get 18 months or 24 months no interest, I don't get my reward points because I chose to do financing. I spend over $1000 and I can't get my points cause I didn't choose standand credit?!!!!!!! New policy is not only a joke but it works AGAINST you! Instead of me getting points to get a certificate to go into a store and spend more money,I'm now thinking about WHYnot go somewhere else cause what can Best Buy offer me that another store can't!!!!!  Best Buy you really messed up this time!!!

Good morning mochamom519, and welcome to the forum,
I can imagine you may have had several questions after noticing that your recent purchase was awarded zero points.  As you have heard, a change to the program terms went into effect that says a My Best Buy™ member can either select standard financing and receive 5% back in points (6% for Elite Plus members) OR promotional financing and receive zero points (base and bonus).  This change went into effect almost a year ago on 7/31/2013.  While the purchase may not qualify for points, it should still count toward reaching Elite and Elite Plus status.
I appreciate you taking the time to sign up for the forum and voice your concerns regarding this change to the program.  The feedback you have provided, along with the feedback from our other members, will be made visible to upper management so that it can be properly reviewed.  I want to see if there are any other potential questions that I can help answer, so I will be sending you a private message.  You can check your private messages by logging into the forum and clicking on the envelope icon located at the top of the page.

  • When does the new BT Mail system begin?

I'm still on BT Yahoo Mail, and having read the BT information pages all BT Yahoo Mail users should receive emails notifying them of the changes to be made and new BT ID log-in information.  I have been using the updated BT log-in page directly from BT.com homepage for months now which works brilliantly.  However, I understand that tne new BT mail system should begin very soon and I am getting concerned as I have not received an email informing me of the date of change to the new mail provider or how the changes will affect me.
Is anyone else in the same situation or have you all received your notification emails.  If anyone has any further information could you please update me of the latest situation please.
    Many thanks and kind regards.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are two very strong reasons to use a separate email provider (eg google, microsoft) from your ISP.  One is that you will have no email related complications when you wish to change ISP.  The other is that many ISPs provide inferior email infrastructure (and from the huge number of complaints about both the old and the new BT email systems you can see BT are no exception to this).
If you change now, you can keep the BT email for communication with BT and the (rare) sites that insist on an email address from a non-free email provider, and forward all your BT email automatically to your new one.  Inform you friends of the change of address, and then they should (almost) all be using the new one if you later want to leave BT.
Extremely good advice, I use both Gmail and Yahoo (although Yahoo is awful at present) but I have always been reluctant to use email forwarding for important mail as it used to be so slow and unreliable, perhaps it is better now.

CS6 Camera Raw - I can now only crop using aspect ratio in the custom crop setting rather than being able to set the dims in cm and inches? anyone know how to revert? ever since installing new mac operating system things have been strange!

    Hi Kglad.
I have looked at all of my settings both in Bridge and CS6 Photoshop regarding Camera Raw. I am at a loss how to set the crop tool in cm or inches as I once did - now the only option is to crop using ratios of 1:1 etc etc - This is infuriating as lots of my square crops I could set at 10" x 10'' specifically to print one to one to fit frame and mount size -
Now if cropping using bloody aspect ratio of 1:1 (square) the actual dims of the crop are roughly 4.25 inches x 4.25 inches. this means I then have to open the whole image in photoshop in order to crop at the dims I have set! It was so much quicker in terms of batch cropping in camera raw being able to set dims in centimetres and inches but they have gone and mucked around with it, with the new bloody update! Unless you are an absolute genius and know how I can go back to having an option of CM, Inches and aspect ratio within the custom crop settings? (Please say you do)
here is the new tutorial for CC -  my guess is they have scrapped the control we had over the custom crop settings

Dear apple, my name is D@%8eL. I wanted apple to know that this technology is amazing and is enabling me to express myself in ways before unimaginable. Hi,
We have a linux based machine with weblogic 10.3.5.0, already installed on it in the following folder. There are some applications that are deployed in this weblogic.
    /home/oracle/middleware
While installatin of OBIEE 11.1.1.5, on this server we gave following middelware home:
    /home/oracle/OBIEE11g/
This way OBIEE installer installed a new weblogic and node manager. Now two weblogic and two node managers are running on one machine. it was expected that OBIEE will create a new domain within existing weblogic, and will use the same one node manager.
Is it possible to create a new domain in the first weblogic and move the deployemnt of OBIEE from 2nd weblogic to 1st weblogic in a separate domain. and then deinstall 2nd weblgoc and nodemanager which OBIEE11g installer has created.

    Hi Sajid,
I'm not sure if this is possible. Is this a production envioronment? If not I would suggest you're better off backing up, reinstalling using the software only install into your original middleware home and then using the configuration assistant to set up obiee and finally migrating everything over. You have to be very careful with the middleware versions and patches.

  • How does point system works?

    Dear all,
I am wondering how this point system works? I had 915 points this morning and now end up with 905. Instead of going up, it fluctuates from time to time. Initially, it use to show up next to my name with 915 but then that went down to 514???
Is it only me or someone else has seen this behaviour?
I am not points buff but it seems pretty strange that one day infact in the same day the numbers fluctuates like they do in stock exchange.
    Regards
    Jehanzeb

Nope, in this case, Kartik already has "the hard way" behind him.
During an investigation into a nest of points gamers in October last year, Kartik was investigated as well for having for having participated in one of the threads. There were many being investigated. Other symptoms matched (we have some strict rules for this) - so the mistake was perhaps understandable - but on the other hand I should perhaps have looked a bit further to see that Kartik's post patterns were different to those of the others (who were not located very far away from Kartik..).
Anyway... as they faded away into the annual ponits total of those who are being transported into the world where the A.G. calendar is used ( Anno Guestus ) ... Kartik's ID faded away with them.
Kartik contacted me about it and I took his word for the expanation that he was not involved. I am very glad that I did that, as he has been a big help in the ABAP forums.
I don't have the exact figures, but last I heard we have deleted more than 50 thousand user ID's for ponits gaming. I am always very carefull when investigating this and there are other people who check it as well before any action is taken.
To date, to my knowledge, Kartik has been the only mistake we have made. Others have begged for mercy, but that is different. Hence my comment that he should wear the difference like a "battle scar" caused by the "journal entry", until Micheal can possibly fix it.
